We're in the book of Romans chapter 8. But first I want to go to first John 3 9. Yeah, did you read if he is born of God? Because he is born of God. No if to it. Well, it said he cannot sin, but how? And why?
How can he not sin. Does he not have the same natural power to sin as he not corruption within? Temptations without Inclining and disposing him to sin. Is this not in him as well? It is in other men. Does he not have opportunity the same?
Expectations and advantages by sin that other men have. So let's get the answer to these these questions. Russell, why is it? That The born-again man cannot sin right. That's part of it. Greg doesn't he have the same corruption inside of him that other men have.
Bob doesn't he have the opportunities to sin that other men do. It all comes down to he does not have a Will bent for sin or a heart and mind set upon sin. David we're discussing why? In First John 3 9 man cannot sin that he is born of God or because he's born of God.
He has a heart and will opposed to sin. And is set against all sin. Now in first Peter 1 23 we have. Now I want you to listen real close. The Word of God is not the material of the spiritual new birth.
What do you think John? The Word of God is not the material of the spiritual new birth true or false. Russell. Yes spiritual new birth, all right, we have. Well, let's go a little bit further further.
If it's not the material then David, what is it? All right. It's the medium by means of the word. The man receives the incorruptible seed of the Holy Spirit. It is not the word itself. But it is the medium that comes to us and Within it it has the power of the Holy Spirit.
So that you become born again. The word is the instrument in relation to the individual. Stick with me. We're born again of the spirit yet. Not without the use of the means and we know that. But by the Word of God the word is not the principle itself.
But only that by which it works. The vehicle or the mysterious germinating power Comes in this word, but it's not the word itself. Now first John 5 18 did I not give that to anybody? All right. All Right all of mankind.
Everybody Is divided into two parties that which belongs to God and that which belongs to the wicked one? We just have the two we don't have it in between. True believers belong to God and They are of God from God and to him and For him while the rest by far the greater number Are in the power of the wicked one.
They do his works and support his cause. This general declaration includes all unbelievers whatever their profession Station or situation or by whatever name they may be called. The son leads believers to the father and there in the love and favor of both in union with both by the indwelling and working of both the father and the Holy Spirit.
A Reason why not all are rather why no sin is mortal to some. That is because they are born of God that is to say made of the sons of God in Christ and Being in dude with his spirit they do not serve sin.
Nor are they? Mortally wounded by Satan into the first verse now. There is therefore now. Therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus Who walked not after the flesh? But after the spirit.
There is no reason or occasion for condom condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. The words who walk not after the flesh and but after the spirit were Mistakenly put in here. They appear in verse 4, but really not here.
They Do appear in verse 4, but here it makes it sound like your salvation depends upon your walk, and that's not true. Condemnation. Dennis what does that mean verse 2 for the the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus Hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
The law of sin and death. What was that David? The law of sin and death. All right, it includes the Ten Commandments and all of the laws of God. Now know that there is no law where there is no sin In the eyes of God the Father.
Debbie do. Are we a sinner? No. So the law does not apply to those that are born again. Believe in God are in Christ Jesus, or he would have to condemn Jesus. Romans 5 13. Who has that. This just reinforces what I have just said.
The sin nature was imputed to us When we were born. The sin nature was imputed to us when we were born. By way of Adam the law of the spirit is the authority Which is exercised by the spirit. The law of the spirit is the authority Which is exercised by the spirit.
Could Let me read here. Could our new nature? break the power of sin. Russell. Greg, all right. The coming of a higher authority and power Could accomplish this. It has to be something greater than your new nature.
The Holy Spirit operates on the new nature. There being no condemnation on the spirit. It is not based on his conduct But rather on his position in Jesus the Christ. But in no way. Is it us? It is Christ Jesus the only thing in existence that really exists is Who he's the originator of everything.
So it's only he that really exists. For what the law was powerless to do through the flesh God did through his own son. God sent his own son in the likeness of the flesh of sin and in regard to sin He condemned the sin in the flesh in order that we could be justified of the law and That it might be fulfilled in us.
Who walked not after the flesh but according to the spirit? Now, let me give you an example. The housewife Puts a pot roast on to be prepared for dinner. She gets busy in the home and forgets about it until the aroma catches up with her in the back room.
She hurries to the kitchen picks up a fork to lift the meat, but it is unable to hold the roast. She picks up a larger fork and has the same results. The fork won't hold the meat. She reaches for a spatula.
Slides it under the roast and lifts it out to the platter. What the fork could not do. The law is like the fork. It is a good fork well used fork. But it could not hold the flesh. Because something was wrong not with the fork but with the flesh.
The flesh was overcooked so I couldn't hold it. To me it was just done. But the fork nothing wrong with the fork. That's like the law. The trouble was not with the law. It was with people in Hebrews 2 14.
David turned there if you will read 14 16 17 all right. For what the law could not do. In that it was weak through the flesh. God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin condemned sin in the flesh.
The law couldn't pardon. The law could not sanctify. The law could not dispense with its own requisitions. It is the rule of righteousness and therefore must condemn unrighteousness. With the law you're either righteous or unrighteous.
Verse 4. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us. Who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit you have in verse 4 the? words that we left out in verse 1. Just as Jesus in his righteousness fulfilled the law.
So we show that same righteousness before the Father in Christ Jesus. Dennis this is why you cannot stand before God outside of Jesus. God sees only Christ. Romans 5 for they that are after the flesh do mind or obey the things of the flesh.
But they that are after the spirit the things of spirit in first Corinthians 214 we have. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness unto him neither can he Know them because they are spiritually discerned.
Paul says we're not to marvel at that. It is a simple fact that if Bob was blind he could not tell colors the spiritual. The unspiritual are blind. Paul says it this way the Apostle says seeing that men in their natural state as they're called Are not empowered with the faculty by which spiritual things are discerned and Therefore they consider spiritual wisdom as following.
It's hard for me to understand how People seemingly smart intelligent high-IQ Cannot see and understand the word. It's like a blind man, and it's no marvel that blind man cannot judge colors. Seeing that they lack the eyesight to do so to them as darkness for to be carnally minded is death.
But to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Now that you are saved and know that you are one of his your very Carnal nature is against you. The old nature cannot be saved. Why Dennis? God gives you a new nature.
That new life is Jesus himself. In John 3 and 6 that which is born of flesh is flesh and That which is born of spirit is spirit. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God for it is not subject to the law of God.
Neither indeed can it ever be? The carnal mind the worldly mind Cannot be converted. This is one reason why I cannot talk to Bob long enough show him enough That I would cause him to be saved. That has to come from within.
There are no earthly organizations. It makes no difference how much Good they do. How much they help children. How much money they raise for a church that can? For a church that can please God. Two or three years ago.
No more than that ten years ago. The Baptist organization has professional money raisers. How many have heard about this? Professional money raiser. You can contract with them that you want to raise X number of dollars and they'll come in and they'll go through their thing and raise you X number of dollars.
I can't find that in the Bible. That's not God's way and it blows my mind when I realized he has Set that in motion to happen. All right. Verse eight. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Debbie that's just as plain as it can be to me that we cannot please God by doing things. To be disappointed in yourself Means you believe only in yourself. To be discouraged is Unbelief to be proud is to be blind.
The lack of divine blessing comes from unbelief not from a failure of devotion. Real devotion rises not from man's will. But from the discovery that blessings are received from God while we are unworthy.
Nothing that I get from God Has come because of my devotion. Now think that through. Nothing that I get from God can come because of my devotion. I Have nothing to offer him. You do not need to dedicate yourself.
What you need is to know and believe that God does it all in the final analysis. God does. Everything this demolishes any theory that there is a divine spark in every man. If we just give him a chance It'll show.
Man will even become religious to stay away from God. Revelations 3 15. I know thy works. That thou art neither cold nor hot. I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm and either neither cold or hot I Will spew thee out of my mouth.
We're to be cold or hot. Nine. But you are not in the flesh. You're in the spirit if or sense. So be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ He's none of his.
How much more plain would you want it Debbie? Once again, the scripture proves that we are not a carnal person. We're not sinners but we are spirit and Spirit is from whom God. The spirit that I see in you is from God.
John 17 9. I pray not for them. I Pray not for the world. But for them which thou hast given me. For they are thine. Now, what does that mean David? Very clear and very plain now in John 3 16 we find.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. What's that mean David and was it just the creation. Yes so if the word If the world means everybody As so many people believe in John 3 16.
Then John 17 9 is a lie. If John 17 9 means only the elect things that God created. So did John 3 16. Yes, that's right. That's so clear to me, I hope it is to you. Well we have time for one more Verse 10 and if Christ be in you if Christ be in you or since Christ is in you.
The body is dead Because of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness. Now what would it mean if it had said The spirit is alive in you. Well, that's all right. What. Getting back to the question.
But the spirit is a live Because of righteousness Instead of spirit is life Because of righteousness. Debbie, well, let's see if we can help you get it and I turned to Greg he's brains here. The spirit is alive the spirit is life.
The spirit is life not a live but it is life. If it said the spirit is alive and you That means it could withdraw from you, but the spirit is life the only life you have is the spiritual life and That spirit is of God.
Do you see any now Debbie? But if the spirit of him That raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you He that raised up Christ from the dead Shall also quicken your mortal bodies By his spirit that dwelleth in you.
It is just his spirit that we have Not the carnal not the things we do. I Can't pick up that watch and say that honors God because it doesn't In first Corinthians 15 30 53 and this corruptible for this corruptible Must put on in corruption and what is in corruption David and this mortal?
Must put on Immortality, what is the mortal? David in Ephesians 1 for according as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and Without blame before him in love even when we were dead in sins Hath quickened us together with Christ and by grace are you saved?
The first was one Ephesians 1 4 and Ephesians 2 5 according According what does according mean Dennis? All right. According as he hath chosen us. So it's according to the law of God. He chose us. He chose me.
He chose you Long before you were born before there was anything. And he chose us in him. He didn't go outside of him to choose you. He chose you in him From the foundations of the world and that's as far back as we can go that we should be holy and Without blame before him in love.
Debbie I don't know how much more plain they would want it. But I know by reading that they don't get it the unsaved. Wherefore brethren we are Debtors not to the flesh to live after the flesh. We're not debtors.
Russell what does a debtor mean? All right. You can be active in the Christian work of a church and still not be living in Christ. How is that possible Greg? You can be active in the Christian work of a church and Still not be living the life of Christ and that can fool me.
Because I look at you what you're doing through carnal eyes. How can you be a Christian and be sinning? Each time you go to church, that's absolutely right. Maybe to impress somebody. Yes We cannot please God.
