Hello, welcome back to On The Road. This is Andy Cain and it's a joy to be back with you once again. And this is the podcast that primarily takes you from carpool to work on the road, but we are on the road talking all things
00:25
God -centered theology. And today I want to talk about persistence. Persistence is required.
00:32
Persistence is needed. Persistence is something you're going to need if you're going to make it in this world.
00:39
And persistence is a learned behavior. It's not something that comes naturally. It's not something that you can just conjure up out of nowhere.
00:47
But it's important, especially when you think about God -centered leadership, because if people can see persistence in you, it will inspire them to be persistent as well.
00:57
And if you're like me, you've probably had more rejection than acceptance. You've probably had more no's than yes.
01:03
You've probably had more times where you thought, Why didn't this work out? I thought I had it this time.
01:08
And it just, you know, it just doesn't work out. Well, God is sovereign.
01:14
He has you exactly where He wants you to be. Now, this is not easy to hear. It's not easy to live out.
01:22
We want to think and know that we have some sort of little bit better control over things,
01:28
I think. And so when these things happen to us, we sort of like, man, why didn't it work out?
01:33
Or, man, I'm waiting and waiting and nothing seems to be working. And, you know, it can drive you bonkers.
01:40
But it is necessary for us to learn this behavior of recognizing that God is sovereign and we are not.
01:48
And if something didn't work out, it's because it isn't what He wanted for us. It isn't what He has planned for us.
01:54
It could be that it's the wrong place. It could be that He is protecting you from a bad environment.
02:00
It could be that He wanted you to have this experience to ready you for something else. And so we've heard that old cliche, you know, it doesn't matter how many times you get knocked down as long as you get back up.
02:11
And so it's tough, but we must persist. And sometimes our persistence is what inspires others to persist.
02:19
It's what others will see that takes them through a hard time. And so persistence is so vitally important.
02:26
We must keep going. We must not give up. We need to keep learning, keep growing, keep maturing, keep growing stronger in our mental health, our physical health, and be ready for these things.
02:37
Pursue things. Have goals. Be obedient. And if you're being obedient and doing everything you can and something doesn't work out, it doesn't mean you failed.
02:47
It just means God's sovereignty is not using that for the reasons you thought it was going to be used for.
02:52
He's using it for different reasons. Now hindsight's 20 -20. I've been able to look back at certain times and say, well,
02:58
I know why that didn't work out or why this thing didn't happen. But in the moment, you've got to have a great trust in God and understand that if this didn't work out, it's because He is sovereign over it.
03:13
And He has reasons for these things. So not an easy thing to do. Not an easy thing to learn.
03:18
It can be difficult to pick this up, difficult to employ this and use it.
03:28
But as I've gotten older, I've done much better with it. I trust that you will as well.
03:34
So be persistent. And if you're in leadership, you've got to be persistent when things don't go well because, you know, either your employees or your colleagues or those that are with you are going to be looking at you.
03:44
And if they see you being strong and persisting, it's a natural contagious thing.
03:51
People will naturally gravitate towards that and want to persist because they'll see the hope that is in you, which is in Jesus Christ, and they'll want to persist in the same way.
04:00
So God bless you all. Thank you for joining me on this episode of On The Road. And we'll see you next time.
