DAY 176: 1 Kings 15; 2 Chronicles 13–16

DAY 176: 1 Kings 15; 2 Chronicles 13–16

Judah’s strength is shown again and again to come not from numbers, alliances, or military power, but from seeking the Lord. Abijah defeats Jeroboam because Judah cries out to God and relies upon Him. Asa begins with even greater promise, removing idols, restoring worship, commanding Judah to seek the Lord, and trusting God against a massive Ethiopian army. When Asa confesses that it is no difficulty for the Lord to save by many or by few, God gives victory. Yet Asa’s life ends as a warning. The king who once trusted God against impossible odds later buys help from Syria, rejects prophetic correction, oppresses others in anger, and even in sickness seeks physicians without seeking the Lord. His story teaches that yesterday’s faith cannot replace today’s trust. Past victories are not stored credit. Faithfulness must be renewed. Ultimately, these chapters point us to Jesus Christ, the faithful King who not only begins well, but perseveres perfectly. Where Asa falters, Christ endures to the end, secures mercy for His people, and gives grace to finish in faith.
