SERMON: Wisdom For How We Speak
Words can heal a marriage, restore a friendship, calm a conflict, and bring life into a home. They can also do the exact opposite.
In Wisdom for How We Speak, Pastor Kendall Lankford walks through four biblical rules for godly communication from the book of Proverbs: speak the truth, listen before you answer, deliver the truth in a way it can be heard, and never wound unless your purpose is to heal.
This is an intensely practical sermon about what happens after your mouth opens. How do you speak honestly without manipulation? How do you stop answering before you understand? Does your tone help the truth land or become another obstacle to it? And when hard words are necessary, are you speaking like a surgeon trying to heal or an attacker trying to make someone bleed?
None of us has used our mouths perfectly. But Jesus did. No deceit was ever found in His mouth, yet the truthful One was condemned by false witnesses so that sinful mouths like ours could be forgiven. And having risen, Christ gives His Spirit not merely to forgive our speech, but to retrain it.
Commit your mouth to your King, and watch Him turn the tongue you once used to tear down into an instrument that builds up.
