Gospel Coalition's article on Taylor Swift. The Gospel Coalition is supposed to be an outlet that writes articles based on good, strong, reformed

Christian theology. And Taylor Swift is a pagan who, quite literally, is worshipped by her fans, otherwise known as Swifties.

She supports the LGBT and pro -choice movements, and basically every other godless modern ideology that you can think of.

So, naturally, the Gospel Coalition decided to publish an article entitled, quote,

Seven Things Christians Can Learn From Taylor Swift's Era's Tour. And keep in mind, this article was written by a man who is studying to be a reformed pastor about his glorious experience attending the

Taylor Swift concert and what it taught him about God. And here's what the article said. Quote number one,

The joy Swifties feel in Taylor's presence, perhaps even catching a glance from Taylor herself, reflects the joy of drawing near to the only one who knows and loves us perfectly.

End quote. Obviously, this analogy is at the very least incredibly cringey, but it also demonstrates the inconsistency of the

Gospel Coalition. TGC consistently publishes articles warning Christians, starkly, about the idolatry of the modern conservative movement.

Here are just a few examples of many. The Cult of Christian Trumpism is one article.

Donald Trump Isn't the Messiah is another. And finally, we have one that's quite on the nose.

The Self -Pity and Irresponsibility of Donald Trump. Now, do you think that wishy -washy modern

TGC would ever post an article entitled The Narcissism and Irresponsibility of Taylor Swift?

Of course not. Would they ever publish an article, for example, called The Seven Lessons Christians Can Learn from a

Donald Trump Rally? I highly doubt it. And why is that? Well, because they would say something like, it's dangerous, we have to contradict the sins of the modern culture, and we have to rebuke publicly the idolatry of conservatives.

And on and on it goes. Meanwhile, apparently, an article comparing the joy of being in Taylor Swift's presence with the joy of being in God's presence is simply reaching out to the culture, meeting them where they're at, so to speak.

Do you see what I mean? The playbook of most modern, nuanced, and compassionate evangelicals is to discourage professing

Christians to the right and make excuses for professing Christians on the left. But here's another quote.

Taylor's dresses become more visible when worn by her followers. Through Swifties, the world saw

Swift. One of the great joys and privileges given to the Christian is to put on Christ.

Romans 13, 14. Yet again, it is true that God is reflected in the patterns of His creation.

And the fact that idolatry exists does point to the fact that man needs a

God to worship. And yet this still feels far more like pandering to the culture than a serious attempt at explaining

Biblical truth. And in my research for this video, I found a response in an article that was so well put

I had to read it for you here. Quote, Glosson, the author, tries to bring his readers to the truth in his conclusion, writing that no created being, including

Taylor Swift, deserves worshipful praise. All of that is well and good. And true. But Glosson spends hundreds of words holding up Swift as nearly an object of worship.

Words and phrases like enthralled, profound feeling of belonging, and more beautiful than I ever imagined come too close to comfort to worship.

So to sum this all up, this TGC article is a mess. And frankly, the evangelical industrial complex that created it is an even bigger mess.

And to that effect, here's what people are saying about it online. The Babylon Bee published a satirical article saying, quote,

The Gospel Coalition publishes Taylor Swift study Bible. Someone else said, The Gospel Coalition left in utter shock after Taylor Swift writes a song breaking up with them.

And finally, we have this gem, quote, Five Taylor Swift songs that teach us the five points of Calvinism.

This is what the world thinks of the Gospel Coalition's direction. Frankly, they think it's a joke.

And by the way, as long as it's kept within biblical parameters, I think that TGC largely deserves the jokes that are being made here.

Because that is the only proper response to something this ridiculous. You have to laugh at it. You see, the

Christian worldview and professing Christians used to be some of the most significant movers and shakers of culture.

Some of the greatest art that was ever made depicted biblical events and people with varying degrees of accuracy.

For example, Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam and the Statue of David, Leonardo da

Vinci's The Last Supper, Rembrandt's The Return of the Prodigal Son. For that matter, most of the common

Christmas carols that even secular people still sing to this day were written by professing

Christians as hymns. Joy to the world, hark the herald angels sing, O holy night.

And my point here is that this is our history as a Christian church when it comes to influencing and interacting with the culture.

And now we have weak -willed modern megachurch celebrity pastors and articles simping for Taylor Swift.

We need to stop trying to imitate and pander to the world. Instead, let's follow the pattern set before us in Scripture and in Church history as we fulfill the

Great Commission and disciple the nations, Matthew 28. The culture may not like it, but that's okay.
