Good afternoon, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Lake City, Florida, and the rest of humanity living on the planet Earth who are listening via live streaming at ironsharpensironradio .com. This is Chris Arnzen, your host of Iron Sharpens Iron Radio, wishing you all a happy Tuesday on this 11th day of November 2025.

Anybody who knows or has been listening to Iron Sharpens Iron Radio for any reasonable length of time should have eventually realized that the host, Chris Arnzen, although I am a thoroughgoing and fully committed Reformed Baptist, over the years I have come to know and love my Reformed Anglican brethren, and we have such a brother on the show today.

I've known him for decades, back to the 1990s, actually, before he was an Anglican, and his name is Bracey Fuenzelita, and he is the director of the Falls Church Fellows. Today we're going to be addressing evangelical Anglicans equipping the next generation to apply the Christian faith to all areas of life, and it's my honor and privilege to welcome you back to Iron Sharpens Iron Radio, after a very long absence, Bracey Fuenzelita.

Greetings, Chris, good to be here with you today.

Amen. Well, first of all, tell us about the Falls Church Fellows.

Yeah, so the Falls Church Fellows is a nine-month program of young professional followers of Christ, and it's designed to enhance their connection to God's redemptive purposes of redeeming the world.

And so we grow together in community, upward in relationships with God, outward in the way in which they engage the broader society, their work, and all facets of the church community. The Fellows is situated here near the nation's capital.

We're about roughly 10 miles away from the capital here in Falls Church, and we take these young kids right after college, after graduation, and specifically those who are wanting to get involved in the DMV area, and so we pray for them.

We train them, we disciple them, and we seek through their work and through their labor that they would generate cultural and social flourishment for the kingdom. So that's the Fellows.

Yes, and the Falls Church Fellows is affiliated, as the name would indicate. It's affiliated with the Falls Church Anglican there in Virginia, and a notable member there is Oz Guinness, correct?

That's right. Oz Guinness, he's been instrumental. You know him, author of many, many books, very influential in my life over the years, probably read a good dozen of his books. He's a member here at the church, as well as other individuals who have served.

I think of a gentleman, Art Linsley, he co-wrote that book, Classical Apologetics, with Brother Gerstner and Brother Sproul. His book, True Truth, was highly influential in my life, and just making a connection between faith, work, and God redeeming all things to himself.

So these are some of the people who worship here at the church with us.

And how do you get along with this evidentialist brother, knowing that you're a presuppositionalist?

Well, let's just say that it creates for a lot of fun conversations, Chris. The engagement of ideas is nothing short of fun. And it's interesting, Chris, because you had mentioned that at the onset of your introduction that you have brethren who are in many spheres of the Christian world, right?

And here I am, a Reformed Anglican, if you would, I'm serving in the Anglican Church here in Northern Virginia. And, you know, perhaps the thing I enjoy most is the collegiality that we have amongst brethren, wherein we can cover issues of differences, one, in a spirit of love, two, but in a genuine fierce spirit of disagreement, and yet at the same time, all with the pursuit of advancing his kingdom.

It's a lot of fun, too, indeed.

And I know that you have also been very blessed by my longtime dear friend, Dr. James R. White of Alpha Omega Ministries.

Oh man, Dr. White has been influential in a variety of ways. I became a believer way back between 1988 and 1989, and shortly thereafter, I had encountered some material by R .C. Sproul, I had encountered some material through other Reformed luminaries, if you would.

And the first person that I had learned in regards to this issue of making sense of your faith was one Dr. Greg Bonson. And as you know, just a stalwart in terms of being able to defend the faith, to teach in apologetics and engaging in that world.

But also, his practical instruction and teaching, I must have gone through dozens upon dozens of maybe hundreds of his sermons. And the debate that he did with Gordon Stein way back in 1985, I may have listened to it a hundred times.

And so he was highly influential in my life. By the time of his passing, I think it was sometime in December of 95 or November of 95. I can't recall exactly.

You're talking about Dr. Bonson.

Yeah, Dr. Bonson. I had wondered to myself, man, who is going to take this mantle up in regards to apologetics? And sure enough, in due time from there, I was introduced to Dr. White. And I said, man, thank the Lord that somebody grabbed that mantle when they were willing to engage with the unbeliever, right?

To provide an answer, to provide a clear, reasonable, winsome, and yet convincing answer for the hope that is in us. And I think he had, and if memory serves me right, Chris, I think the first time I had met him in person, I went out to Long Island to the little town of, we were in Huntington Village.

I think he was debating Barry Lynn on the freedom of religion. And you were the host of that. And so I got to see him, I don't know how many times, of course, I learned about Alpha and Omega. And then through listening to Dr. White, and obviously I became a student of apologetics over the years.

This is now a study that has gone over 30 years. And he, along with many others, have been just instrumental in developing my mind. But I've enjoyed Dr. White simply because I always wondered to myself, who would take the mantle of Dr. Bonson and engage in the laws?

And he's done it faithfully and done it well. And there are many who have come now after him. So kudos to his labors and his works for they've been very helpful in my life.

I don't know if I ever told you this, but I know that I've said, I've told this story on my program. So forgive me, listeners who may be bored by my repeated stories. But I had the honor and privilege to meet Dr. Bonson in the early 1990s, not long after I began working for WMCA Radio in New York.

And I was the token Calvinist there. And I had developed a friendship with our late mutual friend, Steve Schlissel. Over the years, I did part company in a big way with Steve or from Steve because of theological developments that I was strongly opposed to.

But at this point in the early 90s, we were very much on the same page with most things, with the exception of infant baptism and other things that a Reformed Baptist would project. But he invited me to come to Messiah's congregation there in Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bay, I believe, when Dr. Bonson was their guest speaker.

And Steve was one of the most encouraging people to me at that time in my life. He saw in me gifts that, if other people saw the gifts, they didn't say anything to me about it that I can remember. But Steve, before I ever started hosting Iron Trip and Zion Radio, used to say to me, you've got to become a talk show host.

And he said to me, I know that one day you will be a talk show host, and I want you to bring a portable recorder with you to Messiah's congregation. And after Dr. Bonson preaches, I want you to come back to my home and interview him in my study and record it, and maybe you'll be able to make use of it.

So I did that, and lo and behold, which is something very typical of the knucklehead Chris Armsen, I lost the tape. It is forever lost. But anyway, it was at least an honor and privilege to meet him face to face, to interview him, to break bread with him.

And I was very blessed and blown away. In fact, he preached, it may have been the very first time I heard a sermon on the Ascension. And that's what his title was. It may have been because of a liturgical reason on the calendar, I can't remember.

But that's a subject that's such an important subject that is, I think, rarely preached on. And so it's something that's forever etched in my memory.

Right. Wow. Wow. Somehow, I'm not surprised that Brother Steve was able to connect you and Dr. Bonson. It doesn't surprise me. I've seen that many a times with Steve. I mean, he was instrumental in my own life to help me just understand, for example, the entire issue of the covenant.

Also given that I lived in Brooklyn for 40 years there, he was also instrumental in just helping me understand things in relationship to the Jewish community. His understanding of the Scriptures, particularly in the Old Covenant, was just something fascinating to me.

And I could have those conversations with him many a times and picked his mind a lot for a ton. And so I'm not surprised that, of course, you had that kind of relationship there early on with him. Yes.

And even when we parted company theologically, we did remain in contact to a lesser degree, but we still remained friends. And in fact, the last time I saw him, he came to visit my former church on Long Island, where I was a member before moving to Pennsylvania, Grace Reformed Baptist Church of Long Island and Merrick.

We had a conference there. He heard about it and he came with his daughter, one of his daughters.

That's awesome.

That's classic.

That's classic Steve. He just shows up.

And I don't know if you ever heard his daughters, but they used to do a remarkable routine, singing routine in tribute to the Andrews sisters.

Yes.

I've been witness to that, actually.

I was just totally amazed by it. During a fellowship time after the worship service, they got up on stage in the fellowship hall and sang Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B acapella, and it was quite amazing.

Yeah, and I'm staring right at it, and I still screwed it up, tfcanglican .org. Sorry about that. Well, we have a tradition here. Now, this is not your first time on the program, and you did give your testimony years ago on Iron Sherpa's Iron Radio when we were still broadcasting it at WNYG in Babylon, Long Island.

But that was so long ago, I'd like you to, once again, even though you're not a first-time guest, I'd like you to once again provide for our listeners a summary of your salvation testimony that would include any kind of religious atmosphere in which you were raised and the kinds of providential circumstances that the Lord raised up in your life and drew you to himself and saved you.

So let's hear a summary of your story.

Yeah. Well, thank you for that, Chris. I'll begin here where it all began. I was born in Chile, Villa del Mar, 1972. I was born in the midst of a communist takeover by President Salvador Allende back in Chile.

And it was not an easy time, as both my parents like to say, because the country, private property was being confiscated, industry was being nationalized. It was a full-blown socialist revolution that was taking force.

The powers that be from Cuba, the Soviet Union, and all the entire communist and Marxist orbit had descended upon Chile. And the goal was to make it into that kind of country. And so here my parents have two boys in the midst of that.

And fast forward to 1973, I'm about a year or so old, and in comes the head of the military. And by call of the people, in mass majority, they staged a coup and ousted the communist Salvador Allende. My father at that time believed that despite Pinochet liberating and saving Chile, because shortly, as soon as he assumed power, shortly thereafter, he implemented economic reforms that reflected liberty, capitalism, and freedom.

The ones who expressed virtually, who lived without freedom, were the communists who wanted to convert the country over into a totalitarian state. But my father was convinced that the communists would never give up, because even for his 10th grade education, he just knew that they were coming back.

And so his desire was to go to the States. And so he applied for visas. He applied to see if he could get work in the United States. And that happened for him in 1977. And soon thereafter, two years later, my mom and my brother and I, we arrived in Miami, Florida, if you can imagine, December 23rd of 1979.

And then within three days, we were up in New York City. And then from the tail end of 79, all the way to when we left New York City about three years ago to come to DC, minus a stint or two down in North Carolina for about three years.

In between that, we went to Carolina and went back to New York. I grew up in New York City. You would have thought that traditionally, given that Chile is a very conservative Roman Catholic country, that I would have been brought up in those ways.

But I was not. My mom and my dad were convinced in some form of multicultural approach and let the kids choose whatever religion they want down the road. And I think my mom experimented with a number of various religions, ranging from the Mormons all the way across to the Jehovah's Witnesses, but never precisely landing on the Christian faith.

For whatever reason, somewhere between the ages of 13 or 15, Chris, I began asking questions regarding truth. What is truth? I was asking. I was asking. I remember asking my Boy Scout leader. I said to him, hey, what is the right religion?

And of course, I thought it was a pearl of wisdom wherein he said the right religion is whichever one you're most faithful to. And of course, years later, as I thought about that, as I got saved, as I thought of those words, I said, man, what if I would have chosen Islam?

Would that have been because I would have been very faithful to it or whatever? And so I realized that what I originally thought at 15 was a pearl of wisdom was really damning advice, if you would. But something happened at 16, and that was this, that a typical boy growing up in the mid to late 80s who's a teenager, what do we do?

I played football. I was a quarterback in school, very popular. In those days, there was no Instagram or social media. So if you appeared on the back of a newspaper, you were going to be known for what you did on the field.

And so I attended one of the local high schools there, Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York. And my friends, we hung out. And usually a weekend in New York City in the mid to late 80s was practice would end.

The game was on Saturday. Friday night, we would hang out at my friend's house. We'd make sure to catch the Mike Tyson fight. And if you knew anything, you wanted to get there by 10, 1030 because and be glued to the television.

Don't go to the bathroom or anything because Mike would just knock somebody out within a minute. Then we would get up, go to the club, and go to the game the next on Saturday and then repeat the cycle again Saturday into Sunday.

And so that was a typical weekend. All of a sudden, this friend who we spent a lot of time, he was missing. And we missed like one or two Tyson fights. And I'm like, what is going on? Where is this guy?

Finally, we catch him in the street. A bunch of us, we were all together. And I said to him, hey, man, where have you been? And he was hedging, Chris. He was hedging. Finally, he goes to me after me insisting, where did you go?

You left us without the game. He said to me, I went to church. I said, you went where? What are you, crazy? And so here I am attempting to dissuade my friend from going to church. And he is becoming more defensive about that fact.

Finally, he just catches me. And he goes, no, no, man, look, you should come to church. And I'm like, don't you know that there are predators at church? You're going to get molested. The reason I say that is because at that time, it was becoming very, the news was reporting that Roman Catholic priests were after the boys.

And so that was a very serious thing. And I was concerned for him. I said, this is going to happen to you. He goes, no, no, no, it's not going to happen. Finally, he check meets me, Chris. He says, look, man, there are girls there.

You should be there. I said, you know what? I will be there. And so I went to church because of the promise that there would be girls at the church. And sure enough, when I get there that night, I remember going downstairs and meeting a woman who would, five years after that fact, she would become my mother-in-law.

And I didn't know it, of course, at the moment. But she says, hi. And she goes, my name is Stella Cruz. And by the way, hi, mom, in case you're listening. She says, what brings you here? And I said, look, look, don't get any ideas.

I said, I was told that I could hear the truth because I've been wondering about that question. But if I don't hear the truth, you know what? You may see me here another two or three weeks. Then you'll never, ever see me again.

And I remember what she did. She took a step back and she said, the truth is in Jesus and in him and in him alone, you will find it. And she walked away. And I was like, wow. So right prior to walking down those stairs, of course, I caught eyes with this girl.

And I didn't know that it was her daughter. And I'm like, who is that girl? So I'm thinking my friend was right. There were girls here. Right? So that's what I'm thinking. And of course, then the night goes on and there's a guy who was ministering the word that evening.

He was speaking from John 14. And as I thought about this years later, you could tell that those are the first times where the spirit of God was working in my mind because he said this. He said, in the midst of him speaking, he said, truth is never arrived at by a democratic vote.

Truth is not arrived at by a convention. He said, in fact, truth is not even arrived at by the ruling of the Supreme Court. He said, truth is embodied in a person and what that person says about himself, you, life, reality, and everything else is always true.

In fact, any truth claim that is made is always measured against him. And he said, and more importantly, as important as anything else, despite him saying that he is the truth, he said this, and it blew me away because I looked around the room and I thought he was crazy.

He said, and unless you believe in him, you have no peace with God and you remain his enemy. And I, I mean, I looked around the room and I said, you have to be crazy to even think that because I'm like, what do you mean I'm an enemy of God?

I didn't even forget the idea that I needed to be at peace with God. I didn't even realize that I was an enemy of God. But you're hearing that and that news is jolting to you. And so when I'm hearing that Jesus is the life, the way, and the truth, but specifically this issue about the truth, I'm thinking, is this guy nuts?

So I'm going out of that room that day and there's this guy at the door. His name was Perry Cruz. He was to be my future father-in-law. And he goes, so Bracey, what did you think of tonight? And I said to myself, I was like, um, so Perry, first of all, where did you read this?

That Jesus is the life, the way, and the truth. And he goes right here. And Chris, I don't know what happened, but the act of him opening the scriptures, he literally opened the scriptures and he opened to John 14.

He said, it's right there. And I read John 14 and I thought to myself, man, how in the world do I get away from this? Because, you know, Jesus is making a very exclusive claim about who he is. Right? And I thought, wow.

And to make the story, this long story short, I wrestled with that probably every day for the next three or four months thinking there is no other way to be in at peace with God, the father, except if you believe in Jesus and have the truth.

And so, of course, next thing you know, I get invited to go back to Sunday school. I get invited to go back to church. I get invited to go to prayer meeting. The guys, the men of the church, hey, let's go out and play tennis.

So there we are in tennis courts in Brooklyn, full of broken glass. We're playing tennis and whatever it is in Brooklyn. And little do I realize that the Lord is working within my heart because I'm at a point where I'm saying, I believe in this Jesus.

And to the tune where I had two or three other men, I think of guys like Rick Kirschman, who used to run a group called the High School Born Againist Group. I think of Reverend Ron Weinbaum, who was the minister of the King's Highway Baptist Church, where I was, where the gospel was preached.

Dear friend of mine.

Yeah. And so, and so, yeah. So Pastor Ron, I mean, he's been, he's instrumental in many ways, especially at the early onset. He took a guy like me and said, we're going to start a Bible study. And I remember him doing the Bible study in First Peter.

I had another man who was in the church who helped to mentor me, became a father in the faith, extremely influential, Tony Aguilar. And so it was through these people that God began to, to work on me to get saved, to believe.

And, and Chris, we had to begin literally from square one. So we're sitting in a Sunday school and we're doing the books of the Bible and it gets to me and I'm like, I got to open up the Bible because I didn't even know what the next book was.

And so it was up to Job. And, and the Sunday school teacher says, go ahead, Bracey. You could read the index. And I go, Job? And they're like, and everybody's laughing. He goes, no brother, that's Job.

Okay. So we had to begin from square one with me. So I'm going for girls initially. My mind gets rocked because I, there's an encounter that the Lord has with me, um, where I'm confronted with this issue that Jesus is the truth, the life and the way.

Right. And when I was told that he is the truth, he is the one by which you measure any claims to truth, reality and so forth. Um, that never left me, Chris. It never left me. And I said to myself, either Jesus is true or this is just a fable and a lie.

And let me tell you, um, at the time, the way that they operated at the church, they had a teen night. Uh, my in-laws along with another family, along with other people, they invited, uh, teenagers from all the local high schools and we would play sports.

We would eat and then boom, we would hear a gospel message. I cannot tell you how many people got saved because of that, because they heard the gospel. And it wasn't like that. I raised my hand and I walked down the aisle, but I was confronted with this claim of Jesus and there's my father-in-law.

And so I said, so Perry, you mean to tell me I'm walking out of that room that night. You mean to tell me like if a good Mormon or a good Jehovah's witness doesn't believe this. And I have no idea why I even asked that question.

Right. Perhaps it was because they had come to my house wanting to help me with my studies. So long I went to the kingdom hall or the Mormon temple and I never took it serious, Chris. And I think it was the Lord in one sense directing me one day until I would encounter Jesus through his gospel at the King's Highway Baptist Church.

And so Perry, you mean to tell me that a Jehovah's witness and a Mormon who doesn't believe that Jesus is the truth and the only way to have him peace and salvation, uh, peace with, with God, the father and salvation.

You mean to tell me that if they don't believe this, they condemn to eternity and my father-in-law goes, that's what I'm telling you. And Chris, it was jolting because I had never had someone just with a smile be so, you know, resolute about something.

And I went back to the word and I remember those first few months reading the gospels over and over and over. And I'm thinking, why are these people doing such a harmful thing to this Jesus? All this man is doing is healing people.

He's kind to people. He's revealing the truth to people. And I, and I couldn't get to the fact that why these people wanted to harm and kill Jesus. And so I believed Chris, that's what it was. I believed.

And shortly thereafter in April, um, of 1989, I was baptized. Hallelujah. Yeah. And this was going from, from, uh, November of 88. I was 16. So April of 1989, I get baptized. Of course, um, that transformation, I mean, it was quick.

It was sudden. I mean, to the tune where by the next, by the next fall, which was my senior year, I'm the starting quarterback. Um, somebody said, Hey, Bracey, you want to hand out some tracks? I said, you know what?

I think we need to do that. I went to a school that had about close to 5 ,000 kids. Um, if I remember correctly. And I remember I asked one of the, the, the, the, the leader of the high school born again, his group, Rick Kirschman.

I said, Hey man, can we get a track? And I remember handing out those tracks that first year on in senior year and I, it went from love to hate very quickly. I got called every name under the sun. Um, I think one of the games we won, the newspapers had dubbed me the Chilean rifle and then.

Huh?

What a great name.

Can you imagine? Um, and so one of the newspapers, I think had it, um, the Chilean finds the Chilean rifle finds religion, but can he find the end zone? Ah,.

That's hilarious. Now were you offended by that or no?

Not enough to be offended by that. And I was just like, you just go in with it.

You know, that was pretty funny.

Yeah. Yeah. But it, it, it is to say Chris, this, that, um, one of the things that I've noted, especially with those new believers is that they have, and I was one of them is that there's this genuine faith that is there that is childlike that yes, we're going to step into it.

We're going to make mistakes. We're going to say things that are incorrect, but it is undeniable that there was this fervor and this love for the Lord that I was willing to tell a lot of people,. Hey man, my life got changed.

And, you know, Chris, I, I mentioned to you, you know, my, my parents were freedom fighters in many ways because, um, when they were in Chile, um, my parents ended up being marked for death because they did things in contravention to the communist government in Chile.
