Salt and Light in Matthew 5

Please take your Bibles for the scripture reading and turn to the Gospel of Matthew 5, verses 13 -20. You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt have lost its savor, with what shall it be salting?

It is thereafter good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a lampstand, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

Christ's Fulfillment of the Law

For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the law till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.

But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

God's Word Accomplishes His Purpose

We thank God for his promise. So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth. It shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which he pleased, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto he did send.

Salt, Appetite, and the Offerings of Israel

It is an essential ingredient, all food and water. It is necessary to sustain life. If there is not the punts of salt in the system, make food. And Job recognized this. For in Job chapter 6 and verse 6, Job asked, Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt?

Is there any taste? He recognized that God has made palatable the addition of salt. Saromon had joined upon the nation Israel. Salt was to play an important part. Turn into the second chapter of the book of Production concerning the offerings which the Israelites were to offer to him.

Read in verse 13,. And every oblation of thy meal offering shalt thou season with salt, neither shalt thou allow the salt. It is so essential that if salt were omitted from the sacrifice, it was viewed as an incomplete and therefore unacceptable.

Christians as Salt and Light to a Dark World

Ancient peoples, it was true, even as it continues to be true, in the Arab world it is true that many of God's children consider themselves to be God's irritants, the irritating, the convicting work. They fail to appoint men.

Showing the Way to Christ

Christ, who is the water of the world, and cities were built on him. They can give but to show men the way to John, so that those came to the lightlessness and unrighteousness of that generation. Judgment to come upon them because of their sinfulness.

He did not preach a condemnatory message that left men without come to his light. Christ said those who belong to him whom they touch. The Lord Jesus Christ is in Christ. Jesus Christ's children have become savorless, so admitted doesn't know the way that you should be salt to show them their need and create an appetite for what has satisfied you and that you should be light for that in the light that comes from the one who is the light of the world.
