The Destructive Power of Oaths, Coarse Speech, and Murmuring

Thirdly, by making oaths. Fourthly, by using coarse, filthy language. Fifthly, with murmurings, murmurings, murmurings, until they're in the church with the hymn book. Then it's a lie, because that's not what they are when no Christian's watching.

Whispering, Slander, and Division

Sixthly, with whisperings, with whisperings, with whisperings. Speak not evil one of another, brethren. James 4, verse 11. He that uttereth a slander, he that uttereth a slander is a fool. Proverbs 10, verse 18.

A whisperer, a whisperer, separated, chief friends. No one can do that in the devil's hands, but a whisperer. A whisperer, separated, chief friends. Proverbs 16, verse 28. Where no wood is, where no wood is there, there the fire goes out.

So, where there is no tale-bearer, the Hebrew is whisperer. Where there is no tale-bearer, the strife ceaseth. Show me a church divided. Show me a movement crumbling, crashing, divided. I'll find you just one whisperer who did that.

That's all the devil needs. So, where there is no tale-bearer, whisperer, the strife ceaseth. God says, God says. Proverbs 26, verse 20. When a Christian continually fails God, continually fails God with his lips, firstly with lies, secondly with blasphemes, thirdly by making oaths, fourthly by using coarse, filthy language, fifthly with murmurings, murmurings, sixthly with whisperings, whisperings, whisperings, whisperings, seventhly with endless, endless, endless babblings, avoiding vain babblings, empty talk, literally.

Vain Babblings and the Sin of Excessive Words

1 Timothy 6, verse 20. But shun, shun vain babblings, worthless talk, for they will increase unto more ungodliness. They will increase unto more ungodliness. 2 Timothy 2, verse 16. In the multitude of words, in the multitude of words there wanteth not sin.

There lacks no sin in that life. Trust me, God doesn't make a mistake if He tells you that it's true. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin, but he that refraineth his lips is wise. Proverbs 10, verse 19.

In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin. You can be sure of it. Get away from there. There's sin abounding. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin. Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin.

Can it? Ecclesiastes 5, verse 6. So is the tongue among our members that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature. James 3, verse 6. So is the tongue among our members that it defileth the whole body.

The Tongue Defiles the Whole Body

This is the tip of the iceberg. No control here, no control anywhere, God says. And God doesn't lie. So don't argue if you have no control here. You have no victory anywhere the devil wants to come. Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin.

So is the tongue among our members that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature. James 3, verse 6. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin. There lacks no sin in that life.

There lacks no sin. That's a terrible word. God says you must dare never call a man a fool, or God will judge you. But if God calls you a fool, a fool, God says, also is full of words. Full of words, Ecclesiastes 10, verse 14.

Biblical Warnings About Foolish Speech

A fool uttereth all his mind. Proverbs 29, verse 11. A fool's mouth is his destruction. Proverbs 18, verse 7. He that hath knowledge spareth his words. Proverbs 18, verse 27. Even a fool, even a fool when he holdeth his peace is counted as wise.

And he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. Proverbs 27, verse 28. 17, verse 28. But wait now, beloved, to conclude this point. Listen carefully. A man hath joy now if you all had a piece of paper, and you were utterly honest with what you think would make you happy.

If my children were all godly and none of them were rebellious, if my wife finally becomes a slave and lets me trample over her and doesn't say boo, which she should do in your understanding of the scriptures, you're so cornered.

True Joy and the Answer of the Mouth

A man hath joy if financially he prospers and isn't got any fears about tomorrow. In his workplace, oh, I could go on, but let's listen to what God who created you and who says to you what will give you joy.

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth. By the answer of his mouth, Proverbs 15, verse 23. Why? You see, the joy of the Lord is your strength. And God isn't up there a million miles away. He's in you.

And the Holy Spirit's joy when you pass the exam, no matter what ugliness is happening to your children, to your wife even, to your enemies. A man hath joy, God's joy. You want to know why so many Christians look miserable, like it's a curse to be saved?

The Tongue, God's Grief, and the Testimony of the Home

Because they just fail all the time here, and it's God's grief. It's not your grief when the Holy Spirit is in you and you fail with the tongue, because that's the tip of the iceberg of what you're going to fail with anyway.

Oh, the grief of God written on people's eyes because they fail all the time, beginning in the home. If it doesn't work in the home, it doesn't work anywhere. The rest is just the same. You're as real as you are in the home, and your children's testimony is all you're worth, if they're honest, that is.

A man hath joy, God says. The joy of the Lord you think is your own joy.
