Not One Word Will Fail
Matthew 5:18 declares the absolute permanence and certainty of God's Word. Jesus teaches that heaven and earth will pass away before the smallest letter or stroke of Scripture can fail. The Law and the Prophets are not discarded but fulfilled in Christ, who obeyed every righteous demand, bore the law's curse for His people, and brought its types and promises to completion. This truth calls sinners to tremble, because God's standards do not change and His warnings will be fulfilled. It also gives believers comfort, because every promise of grace is equally secure. Scripture must therefore be received with reverence, interpreted faithfully, and obeyed humbly. We must not approach the Bible as editors, keeping what pleases us and rejecting what confronts us. The central question is whether we will resist God's enduring Word or bow before the Christ in whom every purpose is accomplished and every promise finds its yes.
