- Oh, that's right, so Marcus Pittman our director and producer It's his first time at Apologia TV, and he's super excited.
- 01:05
- Yes, because he loves our guest yes all of our guests Let's get right to it. Let's go right to it. Okay, so we are talking today with Ken Ham from answers in Genesis Welcome to the show
- 01:16
- Ken hey, it's great to be with you guys absolutely So this is for me a pleasure because I've been well
- 01:21
- I've known who you are for many many years and the following your ministry So it's truly a gift to have you on today Marcus I just want to say
- 01:28
- Ken that I've been to your Mecca twice and so I know I'm going to heaven I'm just kidding.
- 01:34
- I'm just kidding at least at least we know you haven't seen now because you've been here
- 01:42
- I Just want to say cuz I'm the only one of y 'all have not been there yet No, no I'm excited to go one day, but I have
- 01:49
- I've been there twice and I the Creation Museum is what we're talking about That's what we're talking about. It is fantastic and We wanted to have its unique place in the world.
- 01:59
- You know there's no other place like this in the entire world so Incredible place to come yeah, it is and you're going to build something even better now, though We want to talk about the ark encounter
- 02:08
- Sure, yeah, we're taking this to a whole new level. You know the Creation Museum was opened just over eight years ago
- 02:14
- And we've had two and a half million people come through the Creation Museum It was open. It's really a walk through the
- 02:19
- Bible and as animatronic dinosaurs and animatronic people planetarium special effects theater
- 02:26
- Insectarium all sorts of incredible things here even a petting zoo and spectacular gardens
- 02:31
- But we're now building a life -size Noah's Ark. It'll be open mid to late summer 2016 it's a life -size ark made out of wood.
- 02:40
- It'll be the biggest timber frame structure in the world Wow It's 510 feet long 85 feet wide 51 feet high built 15 feet off the ground
- 02:49
- It's well under construction right now anchored to three eight -story towers actually that house the elevator stairs and also the restrooms and so on and People be able to walk through all three decks and I'll have a hundred and thirty two exhibit bays
- 03:03
- So this is going to be really something in fact research right now indicates two million or more people per year
- 03:10
- Will come through the ark and people will come from all over the world for this So I believe it's gonna be one of the greatest
- 03:16
- Christian outreaches of our day It's gonna be like the Christian Orlando there in current, Kentucky, man Yeah, actually, you know
- 03:22
- America's research group who did the research for us headed by a man called Brit Beamer and he's well known in the secular and Christian World, he's very well respected as a behavioral science researcher.
- 03:33
- He actually said outside of the Disney's SeaWorld's Universals that this is going to be he believes the biggest attraction around so this is really something for the
- 03:43
- Christian world That's powerful. I know here's what I love can about what? You have done in your ministry in particular in particular with your education arm with homeschooling and those sorts of things is that you are engaging the culture and I mean that in itself is is a pretty powerful thing can considering modern evangelical isms kind of retreat
- 04:08
- That that can be described very easily over even the last generation the cultural retreat and surrender and here you are
- 04:14
- Developing the Ark Encounter and this creation museum that's a way to actually confront really the culture's idols and particularly the culture's idols about evolution and Anthropology the history of mankind in the world.
- 04:28
- And so this is really amazing stuff and powerful and I'm thrilled about it Maybe we can get tickets and actually do like an apology of studios
- 04:35
- Oh, that'd be awesome. Like, you know, like a live show like a live show at the park When when the museum is opened as I said, we'll be actually on November 12 this year 2015 is when we'll be announcing the opening date
- 04:50
- Oh, right to be sometime between mid and late summer and it really is so it's not you're not gonna
- 04:56
- You're not gonna open it on November 13th 2015 No But you know, we have a an
- 05:04
- Amish crew actually that are building the timber frame structure Wow It's a very specialized structure, this is really gonna be something we designed it as a ship as a wooden ship
- 05:13
- But building it as a building for tourists, so it's quite a unique sort of facility Can can
- 05:18
- I ask you why in the world would you get this in your mind? Why would you guys decide we're gonna not build us like a micro version?
- 05:26
- But like we're gonna build a life -size version of the Ark Well, I mean what that's kind of its madness to some people that it is such a huge undertaking
- 05:34
- What motivates you to do something like that? Well, you know people thought we're crazy building the Creation Museum to when you stepped out in faith to do that and yet look
- 05:43
- We've had two and a half million come through the Creation Museum has been an incredible Success and and really it comes back to something that you just said earlier about, you know cultural retreat in regard to the church
- 05:54
- You know the parable of the New Testament where Jesus taught do business till I come Yeah, we ought to be doing the business of the king and you know, we should be out there impacting the culture
- 06:03
- That's what the church should be doing. Amen in the culture. Yeah, making the message of the gospel out around the world in fact, there's
- 06:10
- Four verses of Scripture. I like to think about in regard to this and one from Jude it says contend for the faith and then of course we read in the
- 06:18
- Gospels to go out and proclaim the gospel and make disciples and We're also told to when first Peter 3 15 to go to the world
- 06:26
- To actually give answers for what we believe and so giving answers what we believe giving that Apologetic because the word answers and first Peter 3 15 comes from word apologia from which we get our word apologetics
- 06:39
- Yes, and we also get the word apology a TV. Yes And so where to go into the world and give answers one of the problems we've got today is
- 06:47
- That so many people have not been taught how to defend the faith against the secular attacks of our day that undermine the
- 06:54
- Bible Yeah to go and proclaim the gospel Where to make disciples and we're also to contend for the faith, which means we don't just sit back and do nothing
- 07:03
- We got out got to be out there and be involved in this war doing business till he comes and you know
- 07:08
- When you think about it the cross I believe it You know would would be true to say is the greatest symbol reminder of the message of salvation
- 07:17
- But other than the cross think about it I believe Noah's Ark is the greatest message or the greatest reminder or the greatest symbol of the message of salvation and the reason being if You think about it as Noah and his family had to go through a door to be saved
- 07:30
- God instructed Noah to build this great big ship and on it. God was going to send every kind of land animal to go on board there was to be one door and Then Noah and his family went through that door to be saved and then
- 07:43
- God shut the door and then the judgment came Remember the Bible says these Jesus is the door to the sheep
- 07:50
- Oh, Jesus said I am the door by me if man any any man enter in he'll be saved And so really
- 07:56
- Noah's Ark is a picture of Jesus a picture of salvation As now and he's family went through the door to be saved
- 08:01
- We need to go through a door to be saved and because Noah's Ark is so known worldwide I mean, it doesn't matter where you are.
- 08:08
- People have heard of Noah's now that I can real fast I want I want to actually address that we'll be right back guys more with Ken Ham from answers in Genesis answers in Genesis Org right here in Apologia TV be right back
- 08:34
- Hi, this is Warner with Apologia Radio I want to ask for y 'all good friends of ours to go on and click that button there and become my friends on the bookface
- 08:48

- 09:09
- I also want to tell you we talk about Apologetics and theology and we do a lot of swing dancing and we make a delicious chicken gravy
- 09:19
- Apologia Radio dot -com. So it's really a pretty powerful thing
- 09:30
- Apologia Studios Apologia TV Worldwide and on the NRB network and obviously available worldwide at Apologia Radio .com
- 09:39
- is actually a Filmed and edited in some part by some homeschoolers, which actually right back there homeschool
- 09:49
- Crew right. Okay, right and they're super excited today. They're they're
- 09:54
- Operating the cameras. Yes, I'm here. That's right. And hopefully it looks good Hopefully hopeful right guys, it's
- 10:01
- Peabody's right Isaiah Peabody Yes, okay, but they're super excited because they're homeschoolers and apparently by the way, they're acting
- 10:11
- Ken Ham You're like, they're Justin Bieber You guys said one of them's called
- 10:17
- Isaiah you said yeah Actually connect pronunciation is Isaiah. Yeah. No, I know.
- 10:23
- Yes Australians Australians and British people love to know excuse me. I saw ya
- 10:30
- Because the eye is more more towards the middle. It is you're exactly right. You have you are correct, sir
- 10:35
- I've got that deep southern accent. So I need to keep that All right, so hey
- 10:40
- We left in the last segment again and you were talking about other Cultures in the world regarding the ark and the flood you talk about that for a second
- 10:48
- Yeah, in fact, you know we learn about the the fact that there are flood legends all around the world
- 10:54
- You know I grew up in Australia and even the Australian Aborigines before they met missionaries when people collected their dream time legends from them many of their dream time legends talk about a man who built a boat to save the animals in the front and There were three sons on the boat and and a boat
- 11:11
- It was usually a raft in the aboriginal legends and it landed on a mountain and God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign
- 11:17
- He would that that he would be saving them and so on I mean Australian Aborigines have a number of flood legends that sound just like Genesis 1 to 11 and So do the
- 11:28
- American Indians and the Fijians and the Hawaiians and the Eskimos and going back to the Babylonians, you know
- 11:34
- You got the epic of Gilgamesh and so on and the truth of the matter is that the real records in the
- 11:39
- Bible hasn't changed But it's after the flood when people began to increase on the earth again, and they rebelled against God Once again, they didn't do what
- 11:48
- God told them to do And so God gave them different languages at the Tower of Babel and so people split up and forming the different people groups not races
- 11:56
- By the way, but different people all over the earth different cultural groups, but they took those accounts They were familiar with accounts of creation in the flood and they changed them and you can see elements in all these different Legends and elements very similar to the
- 12:09
- Bible, but the Bible is the original one But people are very familiar with flood stories flood legends.
- 12:16
- They're very familiar with Noah's Ark and so We stepped out in faith to say, you know
- 12:21
- What because Noah's Ark other than the cross is a greatest symbol of the message of salvation because it's so well known in the worldwide
- 12:27
- Circle imagine if we were to build a life -sized ark out of wood as a real ship
- 12:34
- But as a building people could go through and then inside that have all sorts of exhibits 132 exhibit phase in the ark they answer questions like how it could fit the animals on board and how it could feed them and look after them and all about Noah and how it could build the ark and answer all those questions and then tell people about the truth of God's Word and How they need to go through a door to be saved as well and challenge people concerning the gospel so we call it an evangelistic ark and I Having something like Noah's Ark That'll be a tourist attraction worldwide that'll bring people from all over the world that'll bring the media secular and Christian media from all over the world and To be able to stand there and say the reason we built this is to help people understand the
- 13:19
- Bible's history is true That's why the gospel based in that history is true I think is one of the greatest ways that we could
- 13:25
- Impact the culture and bring the message of God's Word to the culture in a way that we aren't able to do
- 13:32
- Otherwise, that's it's it's it's pretty powerful because a lot of people might avoid
- 13:39
- Some of the history of the Bible because they're confused about it. Maybe they have not Educated themselves on it.
- 13:45
- And so there may be raised in public schools and they've learned a completely different history of humanity and and and so a lot of people might not
- 13:53
- Be brave enough to engage the world in the way that you have by building a creation museum and an ark encounter
- 13:59
- Because they maybe feel like do we have a is this defensible? is this something we can actually as Christians engage the culture with but you've done it and I think it's important because there's an
- 14:09
- Apologetic aspect to this in the sense of like a defense of the faith because the issue of Noah's Ark people, you know
- 14:14
- Obviously atheists have their chestnut arguments and they'll try to say, you know I saw a meme come across my feed the other day by atheists and some famous atheist group
- 14:23
- Regarding the ark and they just didn't get it. Right just referring to the animals on the ark Can you talk about that for a second just the apologetic power of Building an ark encounter like what kind of questions can be answered by going through this ark encounter
- 14:39
- Well, you know what what you just were saying there I mean, it's very true people have all sorts of wrong ideas wrong conceptions say wrong information
- 14:46
- You know, I debated Bill Nye here at the Creation Museum. Oh, yeah a year ago and on stage in front of millions of people one of the things he did was mock at the idea of Noah's Ark and I couldn't fit
- 14:57
- The animals on board. There's one and a half million species of animals There's no way they could fit on board and so on and and it's again.
- 15:04
- It's misinformation. It's incorrect information So that's the sort of thing we want to do in the ark is to answer those questions
- 15:11
- And by the way, and I'll share with you how we're going to do that in regard to the animals in the ark But I do want to say that there are people you couldn't blow into church with a stick of dynamite
- 15:20
- But you could you can get them to come to a creation museum or an ark even much more so to an ark they'll come because this is going to be one of the wonders of the modern world seeing this largest timber frame structure in the world and people will come to that and So we'll be able to challenge them concerning the truth of God's Word and give them those
- 15:41
- Apologetic arguments that they haven't heard before and for instance with the animals going on the ark
- 15:47
- The Bible says two of each kind. Yeah, not two of each species two of each kind now we have an arbitrary classification system, you know
- 15:54
- Kingdom Fallen class order family genus species and Bill and I got it wrong The Bible doesn't say two of each species species is a man -made term
- 16:03
- Says two of each kind and the Hebrew word for kind the word men our Scientists after having done a lot of research would say equates in most instances
- 16:11
- Maybe not all but most with the family level of classification. Okay, so if you look at dogs
- 16:17
- There's different dog generate different dog species, but there's only one dog family We'd say only one dog kind so he needed two dogs on the ark
- 16:25
- You need two cats on the ark I need two of the elephant kind on the ark and when you get the different species forming that's not evolution because when the dogs come off the ark and as the increase in number because of Incredible genetic variability in their genes as they split up and move away from each other
- 16:42
- Certain genes become dominant in certain groups. You'll get different species, but that's not evolution because they're still dogs
- 16:49
- That's a whole point. And so no one needed far fewer animals on the ark than what most people realize.
- 16:55
- Yes Yeah, that's powerful. And I think just exciting you can actually walk through the ark and Ken. I mean, this is in actual size in the sense of actual size we're using, you know, the
- 17:05
- Bible gives the dimensions in cubits and There are some different cubits out there but our researchers have determined that probably the oldest cubit is the
- 17:14
- Egyptian cubit, which is 20 .4 inches and Because we believe that's the oldest cubit we believe that's more likely closer than to what
- 17:23
- Noah would have used it would make sense That that was maybe the original cubit that Noah used
- 17:29
- So we're using the cubit of 20 .4 inches and taking those dimensions given in the
- 17:34
- Bible. This is 510 foot long I mean, it's about one and a half There's times the size of a football field if you think about it.
- 17:42
- That's meant 85 feet wide 51 feet high And the the ark itself that we're building stands 15 foot off the ground
- 17:50
- And so it actually from from the ground level to the top of the ark on the roof is eight stories and to the top of the bow is going to be 10 stories just to give you an idea of the size it was
- 18:03
- Enormous and I do want to say one other thing because people always ask me this They say well a Bible says
- 18:08
- Noah used gopher wood And so are you going to use I was gonna ask that answer it my answer is yes because we have to go for a lot of wood
- 18:20
- That's awesome gopher wood, that's it that's incredible. I mean, that's really something Well, how what's it like?
- 18:28
- I mean describe that for us I mean give us an idea of what what can someone experience when they walk through this thing?
- 18:33
- Well keep in mind that we're using over 3 .1 million board feet of timber to build that up And that yellow board foot is 12 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch and if you put them end -on -end
- 18:45
- To go from Williamstown, Kentucky, which is halfway between Cincinnati and Lexington in Kentucky where it's being built to go from there to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania That's how much wood we're using it.
- 18:58
- You've got to be kidding. Wow, that so it's absolutely unreal Well come to this I'll be able to get in a queue line
- 19:06
- Underneath the arc that's and and look up and see the keel of the arc So they'll be able to actually walk under the arc and see the keel can hang on one second
- 19:15
- I'm gonna hear the rest of this and describe it for our audience. What are they gonna experience? Be right back guys apology a
- 19:20
- TV get us an apology or radio .com All right.
- 19:48
- You're back with apology a TV and we're talking to Ken Ham Who I found out before the show there were there was a desk behind him and it had dr
- 19:59
- Who stuff up and then we bring him on and it was replaced with pictures of your family and I was like no
- 20:04
- Bring back the doctor whose stuff we put we put it back and I have to ask
- 20:10
- Ken Who is your favorite doctor? Well, you know,
- 20:16
- I was brought up on dr. Who in Australia when I was a Young boy and saw that basically the first programs and the first doctor and so on But my favorite doctor is
- 20:28
- Tom Baker the fourth doctor and of course my my favorite characters other than dr Who are the dialects as you can see
- 20:35
- I have one there behind my desk and and people often ask me Exterminate how come you're such you're so interested in science fiction.
- 20:42
- Well, keep in mind Because I talk about evolution a lot. I talk about fiction an awful I knew that was gonna do
- 20:53
- As well and No, and I used to watch dr. Who is as a teenager in Australia So I was addicted to those programs and I still love those old programs and I like think about jumping in a time machine
- 21:06
- Actually in a way, you know I look on the Bible is like a time machine because it is because we can't go back into history
- 21:13
- Wouldn't it be great to jump into the TARDIS and go back in history and be able to see all these things?
- 21:18
- But you see God's given us a time machine. He's given us his word the Bible. It's bigger on the inside Well, it is bigger on the inside much for here on the inside I don't even know what you're talking about.
- 21:28
- No, but dude, trust me Everyone on the internet right now is like freaking out like everyone know everybody is a small chunk.
- 21:34
- Okay. Sorry can continue No, and so we we jump into the Bible We jump into our time machine and God takes us back in history and tells us here's what happened.
- 21:44
- He created there was a time when there was no sin and death and then man sinned and so death came into the world a time when there was a global flood a time when there was an event
- 21:52
- Called the Tower of Babel and that history concerning the past enables us to understand the present
- 21:57
- So I like to look on the Bible is sort of like the time machine that God's given us It's one that we can trust that's infallible to tell us who we are where we came from What our problem is and what our solution is in Jesus Christ and you know in a sense
- 22:11
- With rebuilding Noah's Ark the life -size Ark, we're taking people back in time
- 22:17
- We're taking them back to the time of Noah. In fact, we built a 4 ,000 space parking area and So as people come they're then taken on a mile shuttle ride.
- 22:28
- We all have these shuttles It'll take them on a mile ride down Into a canyon and up again on the other side and then we're taking you out of the current world and then we're taking you
- 22:38
- Into the world of Noah. So in a way we have this ark encounter project that we call it is like a time machine we're taking you out of the present world into the time of Noah and then you're going to be immersed in the time of Noah as You walk through that ark you're gonna see how
- 22:54
- Noah might have lived and how he could have built the ark and we're gonna answer questions and Walk them through all three decks of the ark.
- 23:02
- So this is going to be an incredible experience for people man is awesome We are taking a field trip, it's official.
- 23:09
- Okay. Okay, we're taking a film. We're gonna go film. We're gonna get some footage We're gonna do a whole thing with the ark encounter
- 23:16
- Apologies studios will be there. Can it be great if we're there we can get some some stuff with you and and we'll just share
- 23:21
- We'll share this with the world and let people know We don't hold my dialect in one hand while you interview.
- 23:27
- Yes. Absolutely. Absolutely. So you mentioned your Your past and Australia and you mentioned that your doctor who and the science fiction
- 23:36
- But you did not mention Vegemite, which is I'm told the most evil substance on the face of the planet
- 23:42
- Well, I said Vegemite mentioned in the Bible because you know, the Hebrew word for manna is incorrectly translated.
- 23:48
- It should be translated Vegemite Vegemite is yes one of my favorite foods.
- 23:56
- Yes. I grew up on it Actually, I like to use Vegemite as a teaching tool because you see
- 24:02
- When we were brought up in Australia our parents would put a little bit of Vegemite on on our tongue to make us taste it
- 24:08
- Which taught us to acquire a taste for it? And if people don't know what Vegemite is It's it's basically salt and yeast basically, you know,
- 24:16
- I guess Australians bring drink so much beer They have to do something with the leftover sludge from the breweries.
- 24:21
- And so they turned into Vegemite but it's actually yeast and salt and you have to spread it thinly on crackers you put butter on cracker first or on a piece of toast and then you spread
- 24:34
- Vegemite thinly on that but Most Americans I find don't really like it because they weren't brought up to acquire a taste for it
- 24:42
- You were you were brought up on pickles instead and by the way any vegetable That you have to soak for millions of years to make it edible
- 24:53
- The culture war. Thorns and pickles come out of it Interpretation but you know
- 25:00
- Vegemite reminds us of a scriptural principle and that is We are to teach our children to acquire a taste of the things of the
- 25:08
- Lord right from when they're born You know, it's much harder later on to acquire a taste for something.
- 25:13
- You weren't taught to Acquire a taste for just like Vegemite. It's harder if you weren't brought up on it to acquire a taste for it
- 25:20
- No, I can't acquire a taste for eating pickles. I don't know how you people eat If I order a sandwich with a pickle on it just destroys the whole sandwich
- 25:33
- But we need to make sure that we bring our children up to acquire a taste for the things of the
- 25:38
- Lord and you know Really? That's another reason why we built the creation Museum and while we're building the life -size ark
- 25:43
- We have these families who bring their children to the creation Museum I love to see them and they're here today actually at the creation
- 25:50
- Museum as we're recording this and Walking their children through and I often see dads and mums
- 25:55
- Explaining the Bible to their children because the creation Museum is a whole walk through the
- 26:00
- Bible using animatronic figures and a life -size exhibits and the planetarium special effects theater other theaters and We want children to be able to acquire a taste of the things of the
- 26:11
- Lord And of course it also challenges non -christians concerning the truth of God's Word and equips Christians With answers to the skeptical questions of our day the ark will have a different feel to it
- 26:21
- But it's going to have exhibits that are just as professional that will train children In the truth of God's Word is going to challenge non -christians that hey this really happened a man
- 26:32
- Called Noah really did build a big ship like this. It is feasible. It can happen He can fit the the animals on board and oh by the way
- 26:40
