God's Covenant with Israel in Romans 11

My dear brothers and sisters, I want to talk to you about a topic of the Bible, the excommunication of the Jewish people. And before I start, I read from the Roman letter, chapter 11, Paul writes,. So I say now, has God rejected his people, the Jewish people?

That is far away, for I am also an Israelite, from the tribe of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. Myself and my wife, we are both from the tribe of Judah. God has not rejected his people, which he has seen before.

Or do you not know what the scripture says of Elijah? Who goes before God, like Israel, and says, Lord, they have killed your prophets and broken your altars, and I have been left alone, and they stand before me for my life.

But what does the divine answer tell him? I have left me 7 ,000 men who have not bowed their knees before Baal. So it is also now, at this time, with those who have remained, after the choice of grace.

But it is out of grace, not out of the merit of the works, otherwise grace would not be grace. But it is a merit of the works, so grace is nothing, otherwise merit would not be merit. Again now, what Israel is looking for, it has not attained.

Blind your eyes, so that you do not see, and bow your backs all the time. So I say now, are you running about, that you should fall, that you should depart? But out of your fall is the heathen the resurrection, on which you should weep for them.

For so your fall is the wealth of the world, and your loss is the wealth of the heathen. How much more, if your number were full? With you heathens I speak, for because I am the heathen apostle, I want to praise my office, if I want them, who are my flesh, to be enraged, and to make many of them blessed, for so their destruction is the reconciliation of the world.

What will their assumption be other than the life of the dead? Amen. Jesus was born as a Jew. All the apostles were Jewish. There is not a single word in the whole Bible that was written by someone other than a Jew.

Reading the Bible Through Its Jewish Context

It is thought to be Jewish. And you have to somehow think about it, in the Jewish way of thinking, in order to understand the Bible more deeply. Everyone speaks according to the possibilities that his language gives him.

In Hawaii, the inhabitants of Hawaii, they have a language of only eleven letters. The five vowels and six consonants. And in this language they have to speak. They have very few letters. They have to compose words from them.

If you read the Bible in Japanese, you will not find out that the mother of the Lord was called Maria, because they do not have the letter R. They are sure that the mother of Jesus was called Malia, not Maria.

In Russian, there is no letter H. You cannot say Jehovah in Russian. You say Yehovah. For Hindenburg, they have always written Gindenburg. They do not have H. And everyone can only express himself with the means that he has at hand or in his mouth.

He can only express himself in his language. And Jesus and the apostles also had this difficulty. And not only the letters are different. The Hebrew language. At the time, Jesus was a very poor language.

It only had 6 ,500 words. German has 40 ,000 words. And so the words that are very important are missing in the Bible. It is a book with so much feeling. The word feeling does not exist in the Bible. They did not have it.

Such emotions sometimes when you read the Bible. The word emotion does not exist in the Bible. And many other such things. One wonders that at a certain moment the Lord says, who does not hate father and mother.

Can not come to me. What else should he have said? We can say in German, who does not prefer the law of God, father and mother. We always prefer that. So you get married and you prefer. Now you move somewhere with your wife.

You prefer, right? The fatherland calls. My country is attacked. And then I prefer fatherland and leave father and mother. But prefer, that does not exist in Hebrew. So he had to say this word, hate. And you always have to think of the language in which Jesus and the apostles spoke.

Jewish Identity and the Two Extremes of Antisemitism

And now to the question of the awakening of the Jewish people. There are two extremes in relation to the Jewish people. There was a time in Germany where you could not talk about the Jewish people as an elected people.

It was taboo. No church, no community was talking about it. At that time, a magazine was published in Germany, the Stürmer, which I always read. And in every issue it said again and again, the Jews are our evil.

But there are these two extremes. How is it about the Jews? Are they holy or are they unholy? Are the Jews out of the world or not? Even if you do not believe in the Bible, it is enough to read the newspaper to see that the Jews are out of the world.

Israel is such a small country. In one hour you are from Tel Aviv to the Jordanian border. So in one hour by car you are there. That's the whole country. From the west to the east or back, one hour. From the south to the north, maybe three hours.

And that's all. A very small strip. Who of you knows where Brunei is? There is a city, Brunei. It is in the People's Republic. Where is Brunei? You don't hear about it. It is so small, so small. It is a small area in the north of Indonesia.

It is never mentioned. But Israel is so small. And every day you see on the front page that something good or bad has happened. Everywhere you hear about Israel. Why not about Brunei? And so many other countries.

Who of you knows exactly about Bhutan? Bhutan is also an island. It is a kingdom in the north of India. Not only a people, they even have a king. What could be better? But it is never mentioned. Israel is mentioned.

In all newspapers, television, you hear about Israel. What about this country? 25 of the millionaires in America are Jewish. But they are only 3 of the population. But 25 of the millionaires and 25 of the revolutionaries like the RAF, the Red Army Faction, 25 of the revolutionaries are also Jewish.

The banks in the world are dominated by Jews. The communists in the world, many of them are also Jewish. Every extreme. Nobel Prize winners. A large, large number of them are Jews. The Nobel Prize winners.

Abraham's Calling and the Rejection of Idolatry

I think I am still young. Anyway. He asked him, how old are you? He said, 80. Yes, but my father carved this god yesterday. Now, how can this god, that was created yesterday, help you at the age of 80?

The gods remained unsold and he got a beating for it. One day, according to Jewish history, he wanted to know, are these gods or not? His father had a small temple, a temple of gods in his house. There were many small gods and one big god.

Abraham said to his mother, make me a really good meal. I want to offer it to the gods. The mother was very happy that he was offering it to the gods. She put this meal in front of the big god and he kneeled the whole day.

Gods, show me the truth. The meal was eaten. These gods didn't move. Then he took an axe and split all the small gods and put the axe in the arms of the big god. When his father came back, he saw this misfortune and asked him, what happened to these gods?

I gave them food and they started fighting over the food. Everyone wanted to have it and they split each other. This can't be true. They can't move. They know nothing. Then they are not gods. Then he took the axe and split the big god.

Then he was done with the gods. He was the first one who believed in an invisible god. But he believed in one god. God has to be invisible. I can't see more than a few meters away. If a god is only visible, then he is a very small god.

Five kilometers away, you can't see him anymore. He is a very small god. God has to be invisible. God has to be one. He already knew that. Either there are several gods who all have the same spirit and want the same thing.

Then they are one god. If they are gods where everyone has a different opinion, then they would fight and fight. Then the world would be in a very temporary state. He believed in one invisible god. And not only that, he befriended him.

He said to himself, can't you talk to this god? It was a nice experiment. You search. How can I do that? First of all, I want to be silent and see if he speaks to me. And if you make silence in your heart, you should really make silence in your heart.

Don't say anything to him. Look, he speaks. And God spoke to him because he had faith. If I talk to him, he will do what I ask of him. He doesn't talk to us because he is sure. We won't do it. Someone read the Bible that if you say to a mountain that it should throw itself into the sea, it will throw itself into the sea.

Then he went to a mountain and said, mountain, throw yourself into the sea. And the mountain didn't throw itself. Then he said, mountain, I knew that you wouldn't throw yourself. He didn't believe what he said.

But he believed that if God speaks, he can fulfill it. And he left his family, his country, his wealth, and he followed God. And he had relations with angels. Angels came to him, visited him. Why don't they visit us?

That's what you are asking. Jesus said to Nathanael, you will see from now on that angels will descend over you. You can see angels. You can have relations with angels. He had relations with angels. He was a great man.

Election Through Abraham's Descendants

You can understand that God has chosen such a person. But then something very curious happens. He has chosen him and his sons. All his descendants. One can be a very good person and unfortunately his son or his daughter can be a bad person.

That's what happened, right? A saint can have a criminal son. So many personalities in the scripture who are good. Samuel had bad sons. Eli was a high priest. He had bad sons. So if you are good and exceptional, that's not a proof that your seed will also be good.

It can also be the other way around. A very bad man has very good children. Why should a whole tribe be exceptional? Yes, why? When my granddaughter was five years old, she asked me, why are there so many why's?

She was Jewish and she felt that something was not right. The word why. Why do you have to ask the question, why? Is there this question at all? In Hebrew there is a word, lama. You all know that. Jesus said in the cross, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthan.

The Hebrew language again, I told you, is very poor. In German there is why. There is what for. Why means, what was the cause? Why means, what is the purpose? Why did you do that? I will tell you the cause.

Why did I do that? I mean this and this. Lama means both. Because the language is very poor. When you read Psalm 22 in Hebrew, there the psalm starts with, my God, my God, why did you leave me? Eloi, Eloi, lama.

Why did you leave me? You don't get an answer to that. Jesus didn't get an answer in the cross. And in the psalm there is no answer to why that happened. But when you ask the question, why? Do you have the answer in the psalm itself?

The first verses are in despair. And you ask yourself, why am I in despair? So that you know such a glory. The end of Psalm 22 is wonderful, isn't it? Then you have the answer. Ask yourself the question, why not?

And your life will be so much happier. Dear children, don't take it the wrong way when I call you children. I myself am still young, I am 82, but now I am a little younger. And our life is so unhappy because we often ask ourselves the question, why?

We have question marks. There are no question marks in Hebrew. There are no question marks in the whole Hebrew Bible. Why are there no question marks? Don't ask yourself any question marks and then you won't have this problem anymore.

Why do you have such a problem? Once we had a meeting, and I belong, as many of you know, to the organization, Aid for the Martyrs Church. This organization exists in about 40 states. And we also have a meeting in America.

And the American committee had a meeting in my house. And there were some sad problems that happened in my life. And we probably had long faces. And my grandchild, maybe five or six years old, was playing with a doll on the carpet.

And we were sure that she was not interested in what we were talking about. At a certain moment, she interrupted me and asked me, Grandfather, where is the word problem in the Bible? I told her, it is nowhere in the Bible.

But you are all Christians. Why are you so sad about something that is not in the Bible? We were speechless. We were speechless. Since then, I have never used the word problem. It is not in the Bible.

Why should I break my head to understand the Bible? To add something, to break another's head, we don't need that. There are no question marks in the Bible. There are no question marks in the Hebrew Bible.

And the word why, the question why, is a very tormenting question. But it has no direction. If you don't ask yourself the question why, life becomes so much calmer. I speak to you as a person who has suffered a lot.

Not only that I was in a communist prison, I was also in a fascist prison. But since my childhood, I had a very bitter childhood and a bitter youth. And now I suffer even more than I have ever suffered in a communist prison.

But the why, I have excluded it from my life. Lama. The why means what this whole thing is for. Why do I have to suffer? Why do others have to suffer? There was a missionary between these wild tribes in Australia.

But they are called aboriginals. Between these wild tribes. Very wild. And he was suffering there between them. And now he was over 90 years old and was very, very sick and with great pain. They had to bring him from the jungle to the city.

It was very difficult. And those who were traveling with him read to him from the Bible. And he said, give me the Bible. And he threw it in the bush and said, the whole thing is not true. I have dedicated my whole life to this thing.

I have no answer. Why does God let me suffer? Then he threw away the word why. He could not throw away the word why. It came to a faithful priest. Unfortunately there is a difference. Not all priests are faithful.

But to a faithful priest a man came and said, I am so tormented in my life. In the family I have such difficulties. In my profession. I am sick. Too much. I have no answer to the question why. And the priest said to him, go to the church and kneel in front of the altar for two hours.

And then you will have peace. But do you really believe that after two hours a voice from God will come to explain to me what is happening to you? No. But if you kneel for two hours in front of God you will see that you can live for hours without having an answer.

Suffering Without an Answer to “Why”

I have no answer why I was in prison for 14 years. Which, by the way, were not many 14 years. In Albania a sister of ours, a sister in faith, was in prison for 39 years. She was arrested when she had a six-month-old baby.

She was arrested with the baby. Well, she was a criminal. That's what the communists think. But the baby did not commit a crime. But she was the baby of this sister and was also in prison for 39 years.

She never saw the freedom of this baby. And after 39 years things are changing a little in Albania. Now she has come out. Now she is in Chicago. And if you ask the question why you will be very, very unhappy.

But I could spend 14 years in prison. I was in prison. That was a torment. But I did not have another torment. The torment of the why. Others have two torments. With every pain they have two torments.

I have the pain and I have the pain that I have no answer to the why. Give up the why. What do you need the why for? You will never get an answer to the why. Ask yourself why? Why did Jesus have to suffer so much?

And it is written that he was persecuted by suffering, right? He was persecuted. It was for his own good. He would never have had the glory that he has now. If he had not descended from the throne and suffered all this he would not have been a redeemer for us.

He would not have brought so much happiness and joy. And you cannot bring happiness and joy to millions of people without experiencing the joy yourself. He now has a completely different joy than he used to have.

Never ask him the question why. But why? The Jewish people have all kinds of stories and traditions about their great people. It is said that once Moses was sitting by a well in meditation. He was a believer and in conversation with God.

Moses, the Fountain, and God's Hidden Providence

And somehow he noticed that someone came to the well and took water from the well and drank it. He was very happy that he had found it in the desert. So he went on. But when he bent over the well he found a bag with gold coins in the sand.

It did not make any noise. He did not notice it. He went on. After a while a second person came to drink from the well and he found the bag. He was very happy. He put the bag in his belt and went on. Then a third person came and also drank from the well.

But he was very tired and lay in the shadow of the well sleeping. In the meantime he was the first to discover that he had lost his bag. He came back and found the third person. But he did not find the bag.

It was clear that he was in the desert. Who was here in the desert? Only he was in the desert. He asked him where his bag was. He did not have a bag. There was no one here. Where is my bag? He said he did not have a bag.

He killed this person. He killed this person. Now he was fleeing. He was going to be arrested and sentenced to death. Moses saw all this while he was meditating in peace next to the well. He said to God Now you see why people do not believe in you.

I dare to tell you that you are doing all things wrong. This person worked hard to earn the money. Now he lost the money because he drank from the well. You could have warned him that he would lose his bag.

The second was a Roman who never worked and he found a bag full of gold. This is also not fair. The third person was completely innocent. He was killed without committing any crime. He was sentenced to death.

All this is not true. People do not believe in me. God replied to Moses I cannot answer all your questions but because you are my Moses I will tell you for once what happened here. The first person who lost the money was a thief.

It was stolen money and it should not stay with him. The second person who found the money was the son of the first who stole the money and got it back. The third person who was killed was a murderer who escaped from the police.

He could not be found but he was in my account. He deserved the death penalty so he got the death penalty. There is an explanation for everything but I cannot explain it to people at every step. You cannot understand these explanations.

Your understanding here on earth is still too small. The question of why is a question that harms humanity. The question of why God chose the Jews and not just Abraham is the answer ask no questions to God.

You are far too small to understand his ways. If I understood a God he would not be a God. If I am the son of a math professor and if I am five years old and he can explain all mathematics he is a stupid math professor.

He only knows as much math as a five year old can understand. He has to know more math than a child can understand. If he is a God he has to understand things that I cannot understand. Why is he a God and I am just a human being?

I have to leave it to him and live without this why. But why? Why? This has a meaning. Why? It serves, everything serves. Jesus had to suffer. It is written that he was perfected and received this glory thanks to his suffering.

This is written in the Hebrew Bible. Why did he suffer? For us. Millions of people from all over the world to bring the whole story to the heavens. It has a meaning. Ask yourself the right question. Then you will get the right answer.

Chosen for a Purpose, Not for Mere Privilege

Lama, for what did God choose the whole Jewish people? For a purpose? It is very interesting in Greek. The New Testament begins with a genealogy of Jesus. All his forefathers are written in Greek. In German it says Abraham bore Isaac and Isaac bore Jacob and Jacob bore Judah and so on.

And. In Greek it is not written and but but. Abraham bore Isaac. Nice guy. But. He also had his mistakes. Isaac bore Jacob. Jacob. Not everything about him was right. But. He bore Judah. Probably a little better.

But. He also had something. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. It is about something. For what? And then suddenly one is born. Maria. She was a modest, polite, holy, pure girl. But. But. And from Maria Jesus was born.

Period. Finished. No but anymore. And so it is. So it is. The German people were chosen for their calling. Every people has its calling. You have to discover this calling. There were many great people and many great saints.

And the English and the Russians. Everyone gave their saint. We are chosen not because. Not why. This question was not answered. There is no answer why you are chosen. Why you and not your brother? Why is your brother not chosen?

Why was your father not chosen? There is no answer to this question. It is a stupid question. Not why. But for what was I chosen? What can I do? How can this be useful? It can be useful for my children.

It can be useful for my whole family. I bring salvation to my family. I bring salvation to my family and to my friends and so on. In this sense we were chosen for a specific purpose. The Jews were chosen.

It is written if you will return to Christ then life will be of the dead. One expects a great fire in Christianity when the Jews will return. Now is the time when many, many Jews have come to faith. Among others, very great Jews.

This is one of the signs of the end times. We expect a great awakening and a great victory in Christianity. I do not have the time to go into details. But I myself have known great personalities of Christianity in the Jewish people.

Jewish Christians and Witnesses in Persecution

One was Maritza Gerö, a Hungarian Jew. In the time of fascism all Jews were sent from Hungary to Germany to the extermination camps. There was an Catholic-Fascist government in Hungary and they had the law that if a Jew, a racial Jew was born by parents who were already Christians so he was a Christian from birth then he is excluded he is an exception then he does not enter the extermination camp.

Maritza Gerö, both of her parents were baptized Jews she was reformed from an early age so she did not have to go to the extermination camp. She did not have to go to the extermination camp. She told the authorities I am a full Jew.

She wanted to go to the extermination camp and there, in the extermination camp she was in Auschwitz she wanted to testify to the Jews about Christ and to bring them to faith. Somehow, not all were killed there.

Some came out of there. We had a home in Romania they went through Romania to Israel and we had a home for them. I knew them personally there and also the other Jews who were with them. They never spoke about Maritza differently.

Our angel Maritza she was an angel there. She gave courage there and she gave hope of eternal life. She had such a beautiful smile. She brought a smile to a death camp. She was a Christian from the Jewish people.

I knew Isaac Feinstein who was killed for his faith. He was a martyr of faith. He played a big role In a city from Romania, Jassi many Jews lived there. 11 ,000 Jews were killed in one day. They were crushed in four wagons.

It was summer in July in this great heat. There was no air. Countless wagons and they were suffocated in these wagons. In the mass in which they were suffocated the bodies were thrown out and the ones who stayed had some air and they survived.

They told that Feinstein before his death he had a rabbi next to him who was also before his death. He said to the rabbi now is the time for us to say the psalms. He told him the psalms and said from the psalms about Jesus, the prophecies about Jesus and died there with his head on the shoulder of this rabbi until the end.

I could tell you about many people like Maria and Vladimir Davidman. Davidman is a Jew who converted to faith. He was killed by his fanatic family who converted to Christianity. His sister converted to Christianity when she saw Jesus die.

Her sister converted to Christianity. I knew her personally. She was a nice young girl. She was also sent to a camp in Ukraine. They were dragged to Ukraine where they had to dig graves for all the Jews.

Then they were shot. It takes a long time to dig a grave for thousands of people. During this time she spoke to the other Jews about God, about Christ with such beautiful, calm words with a smile on her face.

She was not afraid of death. Then a German officer came to her and asked her if she was a Christian. She said, yes, from the bottom of her heart. She would not die. He was a Christian in the German army.

He overheard her talking to the other prisoners about Christ. She spoke Jewish. You know, there is a Jewish language which is very similar to German. He understood what was going on. He risked his freedom and his life and saved this girl from death.

There are such Christians from the Jewish people. We have the promise of God that when the Jews will return it will be the life of the dead. Why? Let it be! Be happy! Jesus did not say Why did this happen to me?

Why did this happen to me? He also had the answer to your domination and to the solution of humanity. There are many beautiful things in Hebrew. In Hebrew, the time words do not know time. There is no present, past and future in Hebrew.

Living Beyond Anxiety About Time

In German, you can say I eat, I ate, I ate, I would eat, I will eat, I will have eaten. In Hebrew, this does not exist. You live outside of time. Time is something that is understood by the human mind.

In Papua New Guinea, it is very wild there, missionaries worked there and brought many people to faith. A chief of these wild people who converted, they brought him 60 or 100 years ago to a mission conference in Germany to show what we had achieved.

When he returned from Germany, the other converts asked him, what are you Germans? You should not speak badly about a person. You are a nice people, but something in your mind does not work. What does not work?

You have a thing that you put on your arm and that makes all the time tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock and that spoils all your pleasure in life. You are always worried, now I have lost 20 minutes, now I have lost half an hour.

You have divided the time into seconds, minutes, hours and you are always worried and always sad. Throw away this tick-tock and then there will be so many things. I was standing there with the missionaries.

They have buses in Germany without horses. We were waiting for this bus without horses and it was just there. And the missionary said, let's run, let's run, then we will pack it. And then we ran as much as we could and packed it.

And when we were inside, the missionary said, now we have won 10 minutes. I asked him, what do we do with the 10 minutes? Why do you need all this? This does not exist in Hebrew. This does not exist in the Gospels.

Christ's Eternal Present and the Redemption of the Past

This division of time does not exist. You live outside of time. It is so beautiful outside of time. So a preacher should actually show what is important in the Bible. There should be no mistakes in the Bible otherwise it is no longer the Bible.

I will show you what is wrong in the Bible. In the Bible there is a grammatical error. So in the Bible there should not even be grammatical errors. It is written, Jesus is, Jesus was, is, and will be the same in all eternity.

This is not grammatically correct. In the Hebrew in chapter 13 it is written, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and in all eternity. This is not correct. It cannot be, is. Jesus is the same yesterday.

This does not work. Jesus was yesterday, is today, and will be tomorrow. This is grammatically correct. But here in the German Bible and also in the Greek Bible he is yesterday, he is today, he is tomorrow.

This is not correct. How can you use the present for the past? Jesus is the only one who is yesterday. For me yesterday is over. If I did something wrong yesterday, I cannot do it again. I can apologize.

I said a bad word yesterday. I can apologize for that. But I cannot make it unsaid anymore. I stole something yesterday. I can possibly give it back. But the thief is still there. I have dirtied someone.

I have done something to someone. Yesterday is gone for me. I cannot do it anymore. Yesterday I dropped an egg out of my hand. I can collect the yellow and the white again. I can put it in the bowl. I can stick the bowl.

But a dog will not come out. What happened is happened. The yesterday is gone. The yesterday is gone. Yesterday and the day before yesterday were terrible things. They are gone, gone, gone. I can get forgiveness from God.

Forgiveness from people. I can do everything. I cannot make it unsaid. Only one can. He is yesterday. He is still there. And he can change the yesterday. Isn't it beautiful? And in the Bible it is written about the king Hezekiah, who was seriously ill.

And then Isaiah comes to him and says, do not be angry. You will live. I have spoken with God about it. And Hezekiah, who is a real Jew, says, you tell me this. But I have to have a proof. Give me a sign, that I will not die.
