- 00:08
- Judges 6 Then the sons of Israel did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and Yahweh gave them into the hands of Midian seven years.
- 00:18
- And the power of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of Midian the sons of Israel made for themselves the dens which were in the mountains and the caves and the strongholds.
- 00:29
- And it was when Israel had sown that the Midianites would go up with the Amalekites and the sons of the east and go up against them.
- 00:37
- So they would camp against them and ruin the produce of the earth as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel as well as no sheep, ox, or donkey.
- 00:47
- For they would go up with their livestock in their tents. They would come in like locusts for number.
- 00:53
- Both they and their camels were innumerable, and they came into the land to make it a ruin.
- 00:59
- So Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the sons of Israel cried out to Yahweh.
- 01:05
- Now it happened when the sons of Israel cried out to Yahweh on account of Midian, that Yahweh sent a prophet to the sons of Israel.
- 01:13
- And he said to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, It was I who brought you up from Egypt and brought you out from the house of slavery.
- 01:22
- I delivered you from the hands of the Egyptians and from the hands of all your oppressors, and drove them out before you and gave you their land.
- 01:30
- And I said to you, I am Yahweh your God. You shall not fear the gods of the
- 01:35
- Amorites in whose land you live, but you have not listened to my voice. Then the angel of Yahweh came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the
- 01:47
- Abesarite, and his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress in order to preserve it from the
- 01:52
- Midianites. And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him and said to him, Yahweh is with you,
- 01:58
- O mighty man of valor. Then Gideon said to him, O my lord, if Yahweh is with us, why then has all this happened to us?
- 02:07
- And where are all his wondrous deeds which our fathers recounted to us, saying, Did not
- 02:12
- Yahweh bring us up from Egypt? But now Yahweh has abandoned us and given us into the hand of the
- 02:18
- Midian. Then Yahweh turned to him and said, Go in the strength of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian.
- 02:26
- Have I not sent you? But he said to him, O lord, with what shall I save Israel?
- 02:32
- Behold, my clan is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's house.
- 02:38
- But Yahweh said to him, Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike down Midian as one man.
- 02:45
- So Gideon said to him, If now I have found favor in your eyes, then do a sign for me that it is you who speak with me.
- 02:53
- Please do not depart from here until I come back to you, and I bring out my offering and lay it before you.
- 03:00
- And he said, I will remain until you return. So Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread from an ephah of flour.
- 03:09
- He put the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot and brought them out to him under the yoke and presented them.
- 03:16
- And the angel of God said to him, Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay them on this rock and pour out the broth.
- 03:22
- And he did so. Then the angel of Yahweh put out the end of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread.
- 03:31
- And fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of Yahweh went away from before his eyes.
- 03:40
- And Gideon saw that he was the angel of Yahweh. So he said, Alas, O Lord Yahweh!
- 03:46
- For now I have seen the angel of Yahweh face to face. And Yahweh said to him,
- 03:52
- Peace to you. Do not fear, you shall not die. So Gideon built an altar there to Yahweh and named it
- 03:59
- Yahweh is Peace. To this day it is still an ophrah of the Abezarites. Now it happened on the same night that Yahweh said to him,
- 04:08
- Take your father's bull and a second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal which belongs to your father, and cut down the
- 04:17
- Asherah that is beside it. And build an altar to Yahweh your God on the top of this stronghold in an orderly manner.
- 04:24
- And take the second bull and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.
- 04:31
- So Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as Yahweh had spoken to him. And now it happened that because he was too afraid of his father's household and the men of the city to do it by day, he did it by night.
- 04:44
- Then the men of the city arose early in the morning, and behold, the altar of Baal was torn down, and the
- 04:51
- Asherah which was beside it was cut down, and the second bull was offered on the altar which had been built.
- 04:57
- And they said to one another, Who did this thing? And when they searched about and inquired, they said,
- 05:03
- Gideon the son of Joash did this thing. Then the men of the city said to Joash, Bring out your son, that he may die.
- 05:11
- For he has torn down the altar of Baal, and indeed he has cut down the Asherah which was beside it.
- 05:18
- But Joash said to all who stood against him, Will you contend for Baal, or will you save him?
- 05:24
- Whoever will contend for him shall be put to death by morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has torn down his altar.
- 05:34
- Therefore on that day he named him Jerobel, that is to say, let Baal contend against him, because he had torn down his altar.
- 05:43
- Now all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east assembled themselves, and they crossed over and camped in the valley of Jezreel.
- 05:52
- But the spirit of Yahweh clothed Gideon, and he blew a trumpet, and the Abezarites were called together to follow him.
- 05:59
- And he sent messengers throughout Manasseh, and they were also called together to follow him.
- 06:04
- And he sent messengers to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, and they came up to meet them.
- 06:10
- Then Gideon said to God, If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken, behold,
- 06:17
- I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then
- 06:24
- I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken. And it was so.
- 06:30
- Indeed, he arose early the next morning, and squeezed the fleece, and he drained the dew from the fleece, a bowl full of water.
- 06:38
- Then Gideon said to God, Do not let your anger burn against me, that I may speak once more.
- 06:44
- Please let me make a test once more with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the fleece, and let there be dew on all the ground.
- 06:53
- And God did so that night. So it was dry only on the fleece, but dew was on all the ground.
- 07:04
- Acts 10 Now there was a man at Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the
- 07:10
- Italian cohort, a devout man, and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the people, and prayed to God continually.
- 07:20
- About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had come in, and said to him,
- 07:26
- Cornelius. And looking intently on him, and becoming afraid, he said, What is it,
- 07:31
- Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
- 07:37
- Now send some men to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon, who is also called Peter.
- 07:43
- He is lodging with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea. And when the angel who was speaking to him had left, he called two of his servants, and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants.
- 07:55
- And after he explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa. And on the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city,
- 08:04
- Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray. But he became hungry, and was desiring to eat.
- 08:10
- And while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance, and saw heaven opened up, and an object like a great sheep coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground.
- 08:21
- And there were in it all kinds of four -footed animals, and crawling creatures of the earth, and birds of the sky.
- 08:28
- And a voice came to him, Rise up, Peter, slaughter and eat. But Peter said,
- 08:34
- By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything defiled and unclean. Again a voice came to him a second time,
- 08:42
- What God has cleansed no longer considered defiled. And this happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into heaven.
- 08:51
- Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate.
- 09:04
- And calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.
- 09:10
- And while Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men are looking for you.
- 09:17
- But rise up, go down, and accompany them without taking issue at all, for I have sent them myself.
- 09:23
- And Peter went down to the men and said, Behold, I am the one you are looking for.
- 09:29
- What is the reason for which you have come? And they said, Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God -fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the
- 09:39
- Jews, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and hear a message from you.
- 09:45
- So he invited them in and gave them lodging. And on the next day he rose up and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went with him.
- 09:55
- And on the following day he entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends.
- 10:03
- And when Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet and worshipped him. But Peter raised him up, saying,
- 10:11
- Stand up, I too am just a man. As he talked with him, he entered and found many people assembled.
- 10:18
- And he said to them, You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him.
- 10:26
- And yet God has shown me that I should not call any man defiled or unclean. That is why
- 10:32
- I came without even raising any objection when I was summoned. So I ask, for what reason have you summoned me?
- 10:40
- And Cornelius said, Four days ago to this hour I was praying in my house during the ninth hour.
- 10:46
- And behold, a man stood before me in shining garments, and he said, Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.
- 10:56
- Therefore send to Joppa and invite Simon, who is also called Peter, to come to you. He is lodging at the house of Simon the tanner by the sea.
- 11:05
- So I sent for you immediately, and you have been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here present before God to hear all that you have been ordered by the
- 11:15
- Lord. In opening his mouth, Peter said, I must truly comprehend now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the one who fears him and does righteousness is welcome to him.
- 11:29
- As for the word which he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, he is
- 11:36
- Lord of all. You yourselves know the thing which happened throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which
- 11:44
- John proclaimed. You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the
- 11:49
- Holy Spirit and with power, and how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
- 11:57
- And we are witnesses of all the things he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put him to death by hanging him on a tree.
- 12:07
- God raised him up on the third day and granted that he appear, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with them after he arose from the dead.
- 12:21
- And he commanded us to preach to the people, and solemnly to bear witness that this is the one who has been designated by God as judge of the living and the dead.
- 12:31
- Of him all the prophets bear witness, that through his name everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins.
- 12:39
- While Peter was still speaking these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the word.
- 12:46
- And all the circumcised believers who came with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the
- 12:52
- Gentiles also. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.
- 12:58
- Then Peter answered, Can anyone refuse water for these to be baptized, who have received the
- 13:03
- Holy Spirit, just as we did? And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
- 13:10
- Then they asked him to remain for a few days. Jeremiah 19
- 13:18
- Thus says Yahweh, Go and buy a potter's earthenware jar, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests.
- 13:27
- Then go out to the valley of Ben -Hinnom, which is by the entrance of the Potsherd gate, and there call out the words that I tell you, and say,
- 13:36
- Hear the word of Yahweh, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says
- 13:42
- Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I am about to bring a calamity upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle.
- 13:52
- Because they have forsaken me and have made this a foreign place and have burned incense in it to other gods, that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah had ever known.
- 14:03
- And because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which
- 14:14
- I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever come upon my heart. Therefore, behold, days are coming, declares
- 14:22
- Yahweh, when this place will no longer be called Topheth, or the valley of Ben -Hinnom, but rather the valley of slaughter.
- 14:30
- I will empty out the council of Judah and Jerusalem to the point of destruction in this place, and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life, and I will give over their carcasses as food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth.
- 14:48
- I will also make this city an object of horror and of hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and hiss because of all its slaughtering.
- 14:57
- I will make them eat of the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them.
- 15:10
- Then you are to break the jar in the sight of the men who accompany you, and you shall say to them, Thus says
- 15:16
- Yahweh of hosts, Just so will I break this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter's vessel, which cannot again be repaired, and they will bury in Topheth, because there is no other place for burial.
- 15:30
- This is what I will do to this place and its inhabitants, declares Yahweh, so as to make this city like Topheth, and the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will be defiled, like the place of Topheth, because of all the houses on whose rooftops they burned incense to all the heavenly hosts and poured out drink offerings to other gods.
- 15:52
- Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where Yahweh had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the court of the house of Yahweh, and said to all the people,
- 16:02
- Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I am about to bring on this city and all its towns the entire calamity that I have spoken against it, because they have stiffened their necks so as not to hear my words.
- 16:20
- Mark 5. Then they came to the other side of the sea, into the region of the Gerasenes.
- 16:26
- And when he got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met him, who had his dwelling among the tombs.
- 16:34
- And no one was able to bind him any more, even with a chain, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
- 16:49
- And constantly, night and day, among the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out and gashing himself with stones.
- 16:57
- And seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before him, and crying out with a loud voice, he said,
- 17:04
- What do I have to do with you, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me.
- 17:12
- For he had been saying to him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit. And he was asking him,
- 17:18
- What is your name? And he said to him, My name is Legion, for we are many. And he began pleading with him earnestly not to send them out of the region.
- 17:28
- Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain, and the demons pleaded with him, saying,
- 17:35
- Send us into the swine, so that we may enter them. And Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them, and they were drowned in the sea.
- 17:50
- And their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the countryside. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.
- 17:58
- And they came to Jesus and observed the demon -possessed man sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had the
- 18:06
- Legion, and they became frightened. And those who had seen it recounted to them how this had happened to the demon -possessed man and all about the swine.
- 18:15
- And they began to plead with him to leave their region. And as he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon -possessed was pleading with him that he might accompany him.
- 18:25
- And he did not let him, but he said to him, Go home to your people, and report to them what great things the
- 18:32
- Lord has done for you and how he had mercy on you. And he went away and began to preach in the
- 18:37
- Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him, and everyone was marveling. And when
- 18:43
- Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and so he stayed by the seashore.
- 18:51
- And one of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up, and on seeing him, fell at his feet and pleaded with him earnestly, saying,
- 18:59
- My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come, that by coming you may lay your hands on her so that she will be saved and live.
- 19:08
- And he went off with him, and a large crowd was following him and pressing in on him. And a woman, who had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse, after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind him and touched his garment.
- 19:30
- For she was saying, If I just touch his garments, I will be saved from this. And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she knew within her body that she had been healed of her affliction.
- 19:42
- And immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power proceeding from him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and was saying,
- 19:51
- Who touched my garments? And his disciples were saying to him, You see the crowd pressing in on you, and you say,
- 19:57
- Who touched me? And he was looking around to see the woman who had done this. But the woman, fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.
- 20:10
- And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction.
- 20:17
- While he was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, Your daughter has died.
- 20:23
- Why trouble the teacher any more? But Jesus, overhearing what had been spoken, said to the synagogue official,
- 20:30
- Do not be afraid, only believe. And he allowed no one to accompany him except Peter and James and John, the brother of James.
- 20:39
- And they came to the house of the synagogue official, and he saw a commotion and people loudly crying and wailing.
- 20:46
- And entering in, he said to them, Why are you making a commotion and crying? The child has not died, but is asleep.
- 20:53
- And they began laughing at him. But putting them all out, he took along the child's father and mother and his own companions and entered the room where the child was.
- 21:04
- And taking the child by the hand, he said to her, Talitha kum, which translated means,
- 21:10
- Little girl, I say to you, Arise. And immediately the little girl stood up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old.
- 21:19
- And immediately they were completely astounded. And he gave them strict orders that no one should know about this.
