This Is Why: The Myth Of Free Will

This is why abortion is still legal. The myth of free will. It's the most common thing you hear those that are for the abortion position say, and even many who aren't but still adopt this philosophical concept.

It's the abortion rally cry. Even for those who think abortion is an immoral thing, they'll still say something like this. Well, I don't agree with abortion, but it's ultimately up to the woman. It's her choice.

Just imagine if we use this same line of reasoning with other sins. Well, I don't agree with child molestation, but it's the guy's choice to do it. Or, I personally think rape is immoral, but it's up to that person.

You see, when we substitute the sin, this line of reasoning just falls flat on its face. But where does all this business about choice come from? The way people, and especially abortion-minded women, talk about this is like a person's freedom of choice.

Their free will is this absolute divine thing that God's word has no authority over. Like, no matter what the woman chooses, it's good as long as it's what makes her happy and it's what she wants. Sadly, many major pro-life groups frame the abortion issue like this as well and present abortion as a choice.

But not once in scripture do we receive from God a choice when it comes to murder. We receive a command from God not to break his law. This entrenched belief that whatever I choose is my business and above the measuring rod of a transcendent standard is nonsense.

Everything we are and everything we do is subject to God's word. The concept of free will owes its origins to philosophy, not scripture. Jesus says in John chapter 8 that everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.

Romans 8 says that those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot submit to God's law and that they're not able to please God. Our natures desire sin until God sets them free by his grace. And those seeking abortions are no different.

There are those whose wills are not free, but enslaved to their sinful desires and in need of being set free. Which is why the gospel of grace is such good news because if the Son sets you free, you'll be free indeed.

That Jesus sets people free and enables them to come to him for life and never loses them is the best news we could ever convey to the abortion minded.
