00:01
And you and I today have to understand that our belief in the Gospel doesn't negate the very important fact that we have to be a repenting people.
00:14
We have to be a people who are turning away from our sin.
00:20
Now, I want to remind you of something that we talked about before. What's the common trait between the legalist and the antinomian?
00:32
Does anyone know? Think about it. Don't speak out audibly. What is the common trait between the legalist, the person who believes they can attain righteousness through their performance of God's law, on the one hand, or the antinomian who says the law is of no consequence?
00:54
What is the uniting factor between both of them? In fact, legalism leads to antinomianism and antinomianism leads to legalism.
01:04
Do you know that? The uniting factor is they both have too low a view of the law of God.
01:15
The legalist thinks in his own righteousness he can abide by the law of God.
01:23
That's a low view of the law of God, because the law of the Lord is perfect, it is strict, it is precise, it's exacting, and no man save Christ has ever kept the law.
01:38
On the other side, the antinomian says it's all grace, the law is no big deal. Both diminish the law of God.
01:47
And that's what you have in Israel at this time. You have the legalist saying,
01:54
I keep the law of God. I'm a child of Abraham. I perform all the rituals.
02:01
I do all that is required. I'm righteous. The antinomian says, no.
