Genesis 4: The Growth of Cain’s Line and the Birth of Seth

Genesis 4 verse 17. We're going to open this morning with a question, Dennis tell me why doesn't the ocean taste like vanilla? Why is it salty? All right Arlen why is it salty? Is this your father? He ought to know.

What's his name? Dexter. All right Dexter tell me why is the ocean salty? Well what if it were freshwater? Would that be all right? Jenny answer the perplexing question. You'll have to speak up. All right does anybody other than David know?

What happens to a dead fish in freshwater? It smells. What happens to a dead fish in salty water? The ocean was made salty not only because of great salt deposits that's the way it got salty but the Lord made it salty as a cleanser, a worldwide cleanser.

Think about it. It cleanses itself. Yes we'd still be smelling it but the salt cleansed it. He really knew what he was doing. Russell we just come to the answer of a question why is the ocean salty and it's a self-cleanser.

All of the people after the flood it did away with all of them. If it'd been freshwater we'd still be smelling it. Now the next question why did Adam eat of the apple? Yes. All right Dennis why did Adam eat?

All right let me ask you this. Did he eat of it because Eve had eaten of it and he wanted to be like her? Is that a good answer? Did he eat of it because he wanted to? Well we can go a little bit deeper than that.

He ate of it because it was forbidden. Exactly because the Lord told him not to. Next question does the Holy Spirit overcome man's enmity against God? Russell does the Holy Spirit overcome the enmity against God?

Man's enmity against God? Dennis well does the Holy Spirit overcome man's enmity against God? Yes and a no. Arlen? David you know better than that. An excellent answer. The answer is no because he gives us a new life.

You're born again and this new life never tasted sin. You remember once Jesus was with his disciples and he said the prince of this world is coming and he has nothing in me. The little phrase nothing in me.

Christ Jesus did not have a sin nature. Now he could have had had he chosen but he did not. Yes. Do you live by definition of the new man? Yes we are in Christ and that is the new man and he is in God the Father.

So don't worry about sinning. If you're sinning you're living in the old man not the new man. The new man cannot sin. Now come to verse 17 of the fourth chapter and we'll see where we are. And Cain knew his wife and she conceived and bare Enoch and he built it a city and called the name of the city after the name of his son Enoch, Cain's wife.

Now we tend to think because the population of the world is not discussed that Cain must have got his wife from some other world. Where did Cain get his wife Dennis? He got his wife from his father-in-law.

Same place Orland got his. We're going to get his. There were lots of people in the world. I don't know how many but enough to build a city. 18 and Enoch was born to Ired and Ired begat Mahalio and Mahalio begat Methuselah and Methuselah begat Lamech and Lamech took unto him two wives.

So it had been one up to now and he took two. The name of the one was Ada and the name of the other was Zillah. Now the lawful institution of marriage it was first corrupted by Lamech. From him it has been retained, it's been practiced, been defended right down to the present day and it's sinful.

20 and Ada Bear Jabal, he was the father of such as dwelled in tents and of such as have cattle. Well he invented tent making or was the forerunner of that and the breeding and managing of cattle. 21 and his brother's name was Jubal.

He was the father of all such as handled the harp and the organ so we get all of our music from the seed of Cain, the seed of Satan. Seems rather strange that the music in our church first come through Cain but then everything that we have the all of the inventions and so forth that are on the market today or on the drawing board today most of them are prepared by the seed of Satan and they perfect them and keep them oiled and everything until it's time for us to use them and God moves it.

The inventor of the musical instruments and the organ. 22 and Zillah she also bared to Cain an instructor of every artifice in brass and iron and the sister of Jubal Cain was Naamah and Lamech said unto his wives Ada and Zillah hear my voice ye wives of Lamech hearken unto my speech for I have slain a man to my wounding and I and a young man to my hurt.

So again we have murder. If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold. He kind of mocked God saying that God would avenge Cain he would avenge him sevenfold seventyfold. 25 and Adam knew his wife again and she bare a son and called his name Seth for God said she hath appointed me an heir another seed instead of Abel whom Cain slew.

Now Eve must have received from the Lord information concerning Seth for she would not have known this of herself. She could have before she sinned but not now her mind has been deluded. This had to come from the Lord and the Seth to him also there was born a son and he called his name Enos.

Then there is a statement put in the Bible and I want you to underline it. Then began man to call upon the name of the Lord. This is going to become useful as we progress into the next chapter. What it means is that in these days God began to move in the hearts of the godly to restore religion which had been suppressed by the wicked for a long time.

The marginal reading is then began men to call themselves by the name of the Lord. There these words are to signify that at this time Enos and the true followers of God began to separate themselves unto the Lord.

The Image of God and the Lineage of Adam

Now chapter 5 and it won't take long go through this because it's genealogies mostly. This is the book of generations of Adam in the day that God created man in the likeness of God made he man. This account is again instructed is given to us for instruction.

Male and female created he them and blessed them and called their name Adam in the day when they were created by giving them both one name. He does not separate them. He does not call them the Adamses.

He calls them Adam. Adam lived a hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness after the image and called his name Seth. Note God made Adam after whose likeness? After God's likeness. He said let us make man.

So the Godhead made man. In the third verse of the fifth chapter we have he begat a son Adam did after his image and called his name Seth. So it is after the image of man that man has been brought into this world.

Not after the image of God. Adam was made and created after the image of God but he forsook that. He failed. He sunk to a new low and now all of the world has come in the image of man. In the image of Adam and that is sinful.

And the days of Adam after he begot Seth were 800 years and he begat sons and daughters and the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years and he died. Now was he the oldest man? Who was?

How long did Methuselah live? So that was how much more than Adam. Thirty-nine years. Adam the first to die, the first to sin and he lived a hundred and nine hundred and thirty years and he died. Dennis can you imagine living nine hundred and thirty years?

If you were to die today where would that have put you to start nine hundred years ago? You wouldn't be in this country. Alright we go through a great group of those individuals and I'm not going to take time to do that.

The Corruption of Humanity Before the Flood

I want to come to chapter 10 chapter 6 and it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them. Now remember we have the group that is worshiping God and the group that is not worshiping God because we saw where man began to be called by the name of the Lord or to call upon the name of the Lord.

We have the little word began, powerful illustration, and it came to pass when men began to multiply. This is a picture of the downward march of man, the downward rush of mankind. The word here is kolah, means to profane, profane a person place or thing, means to break one's word.

It also means to play the flute or an instrument. It means to gather grape thereof so as to become drunk, take inheritance, pipe, player of instruments, pollute, cast as profane, prostitute, slayed, sorrow, stain or wound.

All of that in the word kolah. As men began to become degraded, they started to steal, to practice prostitution, to use music as an aphrodisiac, to kill and take whatever they wanted. There was no law to prevent this rape of their environment.

The world is headed for hell. Two, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them wives of all which they chose, took. Lokoho means to buy, to carry away, to draw, to fetch, to get, to mangle, to reserve, to seize, send for, take away.

And the Lord said, my spirit shall not always strive with man for that he is flesh, yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days and also after that when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown, such as Nimrod.

Renown, such as Nimrod, that the sons of God. Now most preachers except ours, theologians, claim that these sons of God were angels. I'm sure you have heard this definition and that the reason of their belief is based partly on Jude 1 and 6.

Turn over to that if you will please. And David, will you read it? Alright, the definition of the word angels, anglos, it comes from angelo, to bring tidings, to be a messenger. I say, and I think the scripture bears this out, that angels of God would not do such a thing and if they did they would not be called sons of God.

The word son is ben or bane, means the builder of the family. I now ask you to refer back to the chapter 4 verse 26. Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord. Another thing, if it were angels, which by the way are sexless, and they cohabited with earthly women, their offspring would have been a mutation.

Now where in history does this appear? Where are they today? We see no mention in the Bible of these monstrosities. What actually took place is exactly the same that happens today. Non-Christians marrying Christians.

The sons of God are those that believe and the daughters of men are the non-believers. Now you may well ask, what about the giants? The word giant is nephel and it means bully, tyrant. This word comes from another Hebrew word nophel.

This word means fugitive, inferior and it's the line of Cain. It's true that there were and are at the present time giants in the world, but giant does not exclusively mean large in physical stature. It can also mean strong in financial world, in intellect, in power, in politics and so forth.

If these were giant men in physical size, it was not because of there being the children of angels and earthly women. To go over that briefly again, the world was becoming divided. The men of God, those who worshiped God, were beginning to live together, beginning to, I said, and the men of Satan, the human beings, took whatever woman they wanted and raised a family.

The word began means a myriad of things. The sons of God saw the daughters of men. Now sons of God is not angels, it's men. Eve, the line of Seth, and they took wives of all of those that they chose. And the Lord said, my spirit is not going to be with man forever.

It's going to be 120 years and then will come a flood. Only he does not say flood here. And there were giants in the earth, the giants of physical size, of mental size, giant men of intellect, Nimrod was one.

I'm sorry that most of the preachers and teachers teach that that is angels. Now let me see what you think. Dennis, you're on. Yes. Do you see how the world is reverting to Satanism? Now, we say, well, we're not.

We don't worship the devil. Our city doesn't worship the devil. Our country doesn't worship the devil. But the devil is in our church. We have to fight. I have to fight every day to keep him out of my life.

Rely on the Lord. In our television programs, there is a program that I watch once in a while, and it is Miracle Pets. Now, the very name is wrong, but one incident I remember, there was a lady living by herself in New York City, and she had lost her dog.

And we can all become very attached to a dog or cat. She couldn't find it. She looked and looked and looked, and she knew that he was someplace but didn't know where. And after a week or two, a psychic heard about it, and she got in on it.

Now, that makes a good story, and I use good facetiously. It is a story that even though we identify with it, and we were caught up in it, and we think it is so wonderful that she found her dog, it's of Satan.

The very nature of the program is of Satan. Very, very few programs that I can watch. I don't have cable or satellite, just what comes over the air. I'm getting more disgusted with that. But it seems like even the religious programs are of Satan.

They're preaching how to get rich, how to get healed, how to do this. I never hear the name of Jesus. Our world is mimicking Noah's world. I hope I'm not the only one that can see this. Any of you want to make a comment?

What is the answer, Russell? What's the answer to it? Yes, it's fixing to come to an end. We will not be able to fight it, don't try, other than we have to fight it individually in God, in the Lord. I want to read one more verse, 6 and 5, and God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Folks, that's a powerful verse. Let me read this to you, and you listen. The very first embryo of every idea, the figment of every thought, the very material out of which every perception, conception, and ideas were formed, was all evil.

The fountain which produced them, with every thought, purpose, wish, desire, and motive, was incurably poisoned. All were evil without any mixture of good. The Spirit of God which strove with them was continually resisted, so the evil had its sovereign sway.

They were evil continually. There was no interval of good, no moment allowed for serious reflection, no holy purpose, no righteous act. What a finished picture of a fallen soul, such a picture as God alone, who searches the heart and tries the Spirit, could possibly give.

I see man going the same way today. David, do you have anything to say on this subject? I was an outdated scientist. The thing that was hilariously true to me is that the teenagers in that youth group were no different than the ones who claimed to be lost in the time school, and they were all doing the same stuff.

So as a kid, I knew that wasn't right, and I knew that that youth group was just full of lost kids, and the mistake was to always break the principles down, not the other way around, and that's why we have stars in the last page, and separated lifetimes of our children.

It's far removed from those children in the world as we can, and it's a physical task, and the parents are always having to answer those children's questions. Why can't I go and spend the night with little Bobby?

Bobby's parents are so nice, living with the Lord, and getting everywhere around them. Oh, that's so true, and I can't say it anymore like you did, but it's true. Is there any other thing from anybody?
