Manny and Fred are the ones that told me about Jeff and He has had a tremendous influence on their lives, and we're so glad that these young men have
00:16
Given us a shot of new life in our midst and We always want to be as little children
00:26
Jesus said I thank you father that you've hidden these things from the wise and the prudent and you have revealed them to babes
00:32
So we want the revelation of God we want to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and be teachable like little children, right?
00:41
This is the number one requirement Jeff is the pastor of Apologia Church in Tempe, Arizona.
00:50
That's the suburb of Phoenix Start of church with two families and three singles, right?
00:59
and Runs about a hundred now. Somebody just gave him a free building That'll seat over 200 people
01:07
He has a ministry on the radio and is influenced internationally all over the world that that program does
01:15
He was featured in in a series for the history channel It was called the stone the stoned ages
01:25
It was about the subject of drugs and alcohol and the radio station is called
01:33
Apologia radio, so It's Apologia radio .com
01:41
So go on and listen to it. You can put it on your podcast and we had a great time fellowship with him with him last night the elders and deacons and Great Sunday school lesson this morning.
01:52
And so Immediately after we dismiss this morning We're gonna have a
01:57
Q &A time and it's going to be recorded on film And they're gonna sit up here in two chairs
02:03
And so for those of you who want to stay behind after we dismiss come up towards the front and you can ask questions
02:09
We're gonna have both both Bo and Jeff up here on the stage. Okay?
02:17
Well, that's for the left behind yeah people left behind Yeah, because the Bible does teach that the left behind like Noah got left behind, you know
02:26
And it says in Isaiah, it says the remnant shall be called holy those that are left over Hi, I apologize about Manny and Fred by the way, so Well, if I seem a little more relaxed than the
02:50
Bible study It's because we usually don't have communion at my church before the message. So I see how you do that Well, let's pray and ask
02:58
God to bless the message. We have let's pray father. I want to pray Lord a you bless your people
03:04
God. I pray with all my heart Lord that you'd get me out of the way that I would Decrease you would increase that you'd bless this time.
03:13
We'd end your word God that you would speak by your spirit God and you would Change our hearts and minds encourage us
03:19
Lord. I pray that people would leave here they would forget me and remember
03:24
Lord you and your gospel of your kingdom and That's Lord you would ignite Lord within this generation a passion for the good news of the kingdom and I pray
03:33
Lord you correct us get Lord your church on a course of correction and transformation where God where We focus on you and your kingdom.
03:42
We see you as you truly are Lord as reigning putting your enemies into your feet Lord Let this not be about Lord theological combat alone in gymnastics
03:51
God But if I just about the simple truth Lord that you are King you brought the kingdom Lord and you are reigning and that Lord You are defeating your enemies and you
04:00
Lord and history in victory in Jesus name. Amen Okay, turn to your
04:06
Bibles. I'm not sure is it up? Yeah, we do have it. Okay good right on Okay, so turn to your Bibles last chapter of the book of Acts.
04:13
I'm going to give you By way of just springboard into this discussion acts book of Acts last chapter
04:21
Just to notice something that occurs at the end of the book of Acts guys really important to pay attention to and it was something for me that was
04:30
Challenging because I came to Christ later on in life wasn't raising a Christian home And when I did go to Bible College, it was a
04:36
Bible College that's I fit right in I mean Tim LaHaye was my homeboy
04:41
Jerry B Jenkins how Lindsay used to watch how Lindsay every night he came on I I was a fanatic about end time stuff.
04:50
I was an absolute fanatic. I was I was freakish about it I would scare my wife
04:56
I would go to this bookstore just to get a copy of the Jerusalem Post just to see what new stuff was happening in Jerusalem Hey, look, they got the red heifer in in Jerusalem and the foundation like they've got that and like, you know
05:08
They're gonna build the temple again, and I was excited and and you know What those helicopters like that's the locus of Revelation and and I was just a fiend
05:17
And going to Bible College. It's all I understood about eschatology was this view of the future.
05:23
That's ultimately pessimistic That we the church is defeated in history But essentially we get beat up and Jesus is gonna come back to rescue a defeated church that we're gonna be secretly raptured away only to leave behind seven years of tribulation where two -thirds of the
05:39
Jews are slaughtered and then Jesus comes back and There's a thousand -year kingdom reign of Christ physically on the earth and and that was my view of the future that's all
05:47
I thought that there was and so the the idea in the in the scriptures of the gospel of the kingdom that's just heralded in the
05:56
New Testament and the fact that the book of Acts ends with the Apostle Paul in the
06:01
Discussion about the things of the kingdom was something that was it took me it jolted me It was it was a jolting moment for me in my own walk with Christ to see like it's not about just a theological
06:12
Position, you know, what's theological team? Are you on? Are you all male? Are you post male? Are you pre male?
06:18
Yeah, like, you know, whatever it wasn't just that it's just that the Bible has a relatively simple story about the fall about redemption about a kingdom and about God's victory over the world and I think that as Christians were missing a big part of the story in our culture and that missing part of the story is
06:40
At least in some respect an answer as to why we are so ineffective in this generation as Christians We've lost the big part of the story
06:51
It's the good news about the kingdom that Christ has brought and so I'm going to just show you that happening in the book of Acts if you go to acts again 28
07:00
There's many places you can see this in but acts 28 verse 23 Interesting moment
07:06
About the Apostle Paul. It says after arranging a day with them many came to him at his lodging from dawn to dusk
07:13
He expounded and witnessed about the kingdom of God He tried to persuade them concerning Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets
07:23
Some were persuaded by what he said, but others did not believe that is powerful to see that here's
07:30
Paul the Apostle and It's interesting because Paul preached forgiveness and salvation, right?
07:37
He did that He would be in a city and he would proclaim repentance and faith. He'd tell the story of Jesus. He's the Messiah.
07:42
He died He was buried He rose again And he would say all who come to him have forgiveness and salvation Believe in Christ repent and believe and there's that message in that call for forgiveness and salvation that Christians Generally are pretty decent at telling
07:56
Jesus is the Savior. He died. He was buried He rose again repent and believe and it's amazing that We see here in the book of Acts that Paul didn't just simply have a message of salvation and forgiveness for individuals
08:09
He was teaching people and he took opportunity to teach people about a significant part of God's story in Revelation And that is something that we're missing a lot today.
08:19
And that is the good news of the kingdom Notice that Paul says that from dawn to dusk
08:26
He expounded and witnessed about the kingdom of God Where is that story today?
08:33
Where is it being taught? Church of the King that's where it's being taught.
08:38
I know I'm saying no, okay. I Mean, this is I mean, it's a peculiar thing. Listen, I it's you know, weird you guys are you strange people you are
08:46
It is a church. That's post -millennial reformed the on a theonomic. You're an odd bunch and I like you
08:54
It's it but it's an amazing thing And it's not so much What makes this church?
09:00
I think really powerful and exciting for me as a young guy this post -millennial Reform theonomic what makes it exciting for me is not so much that hey, this is cool.
09:10
You're part of my club We're in the same club that club and guys like Greg Bonson and Rush Dooney.
09:15
And so yeah awesome Jonathan Edwards and wonderful work. We have a good club going on with some Giants. It's not that What's exciting about a church like this is that you have an emphasis where the
09:26
Bible has an emphasis You haven't lost it and that is that you expound from dawn till dusk the truths about the kingdom of God the reign of Christ and I want to show you again in the same chapter just go a little bit further down to the last verse in the book of Acts it cannot be an accident
09:45
Brothers and sisters it cannot be an accident the Bible and the book of Acts ends with this As the last few verses then he stayed two whole years in his own rented house
09:54
This is Paul, by the way, and he welcomed all who visited him proclaiming what?
10:02
the kingdom of God and teaching The things concerning the
10:07
Lord Jesus Christ with full boldness and without hindrance. I want to say that it's amazing and powerful
10:13
They've been Jesus walks into his ministry in the book of Matthew Mark Luke You see Jesus talking about repent for the kingdom of God is at hand you see
10:20
Jesus talking about the gospel of the kingdom the book of Acts ends after it tells us the story of the Holy Spirit being poured out on the church and the gospel going out
10:28
Paul's missionary journeys and the persecution and the victories and the Tragedies and all that's going on that the
10:35
Bible talks about the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom it was on their lips Constantly from dawn till dusk and everything else is the gospel of the kingdom the gospel of the kingdom the gospel of the kingdom and We are missing that today
10:51
You see by how do we change things? What's gonna go on? Do we just need to try harder? I want to say that I think the cancer in The church today is that we've lost
11:02
This beautiful part of the whole story. It's good news Not just about your own private individual salvation before God, of course, that's true
11:11
As I've said before give me the t -shirt. I'll buy the bumper sticker. I'll wear it I'll put it on my car salvation in Christ.
11:17
Amen, and that's a major part of the story But we are missing something entirely important that in the
11:23
Bible is a central theme. It's the good news about his kingdom and I think the reason why we've missed it is that we're so wrapped up in Self -absorbed thinking
11:34
There are more excited about our own story than his story This is important.
11:41
If you want to think about the fact that we've got before us Something astonishing the Bible is
11:46
God's revelation. God has condescended. He has walked among us God has revealed himself to us you you listen young people children in the room.
11:55
You have something spectacular It's not just the writings of a madman with false prophecies a
12:02
Book that changes with time ebbs and flows throughout history You've got before you the revelation of God the true and living
12:10
God the one who has no beginning and no end He's the first and the last there's no gods before him or after him
12:18
He knows all things decrees all things. He spoke into nothing and out of nothing sprang
12:25
Everything that he called into existence This is the God who carries eternity to its destination
12:31
He is all -powerful There's no there are no maverick molecules in the universe and this is his revelation that he has
12:39
Deposited into history so that you can know him That's his revelation 66 different books and letters over a thousand years of composition
12:48
God has spoken and he has a story a revelation of history
12:54
He is sovereign. He decrees the end from the beginning He works all things the
13:00
Bible says after the counsel of his will No one can stay his hand and say what have you done?
13:05
What are you doing? he is all -powerful and does according to his will the Bible says in the host of heaven and We miss this part
13:14
We say oh, yeah, Jesus is he's God over Neverland, right? like he's in charge in heaven, but not here the
13:20
Bible says he does according to his will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth
13:26
He's all -powerful. He declares the end from the beginning and Christians can actually say something like Romans 8 28
13:33
God causes what all things what things some things kind of things all things
13:41
To work together for good. He is sovereign and he has a story of where history is going
13:46
Listen, the fact that Christians could even talk about history going somewhere is something that should shock you
13:51
You should be excited and like hooting and howling. This is Texas, right? Right about the fact that God is sovereign over history.
13:58
Listen, and I'm gonna talk to the young people in here very very Directly you have something powerful
14:05
You have something powerful that you have a story that history is going somewhere. The unbelieving world doesn't have that History for them is either in cycles or it's chaos
14:15
It's just stuff moving throughout history and the world believes that you know that we came from the goo
14:21
To you fish to philosophers stuff like out of nothing something came They're not supposed to believe in miracles, but that's pretty astonishing
14:30
History is not going somewhere It doesn't have a goal or an aim The fact that we even think like that is showing that our country the people around us that have been trained in a secular
14:40
Worldview haven't been able to shake the residual Christianity that's on them History is going somewhere.
14:47
That's a story from God. He's in control History has a climax and that is something that Christians own and it should excite you
14:56
But I want to say something about that revelation. The fact that God has told us history and where it's going is awesome
15:02
You have hope guaranteed assurance as to what's coming in front of us as Christians And thus we have every reason to lay your life down for the gospel
15:11
You have every reason to die for the gospel. You have every reason to sacrifice everything for the gospel
15:17
You have every reason to seek first his kingdom above everything else because you know the end of the story
15:23
You do but here's what's wrong today in our culture. And when I say our culture, I mean our
15:28
Christian culture is That God has this story of history and it is a symphony
15:36
It is a symphony and heard together. It is beautiful. It is majestic. It is powerful
15:42
It will give you goosebumps Inspires you makes your heart flutter entirely but the the amazing thing about this symphony is
15:52
That it's built to play together and it has a Climax to it and our problem today is that we have stripped that symphony of its climax
16:06
We have stripped the symphony of a third of the players We have this music playing and don't get me wrong, it's beautiful parts
16:16
Don't get me wrong. We talk about salvation and forgiveness and the Trinity and everything going on in God's sovereignty
16:23
Powerful play that music Play it let it be heard.
16:29
It's powerful, but we are missing a third of the instruments We're missing the part where the story starts to climax and you start to get tears filling your eyes and your heart pounds
16:39
And you get goosebumps We've missed a part of the story that this is not just good news of salvation and forgiveness
16:45
It's good news of the kingdom of God the rule and reign of God in history in his Messiah We've missed it and the story starts to sound stunted
16:55
It doesn't have its climax. There's not quite the peak. It's not that the instruments playing are wrong
17:01
They are right, but we're missing the part of the story You've either turned it down or turned it completely off in our culture and we wonder why
17:09
We are impotent It's not that God isn't ruling and reigning. It's not that God is not gonna have victory in history
17:16
It's that his people today are losing that part of the story That God has placed in the story and that gives his people hope and it gives them direction
17:27
Listen, I had Douglas Wilson on my radio show once and he simplified it. I love how I always simplifies things for me
17:33
He said listen ultimately Jeff you hit what you aim at if you believe and I'm going to switch to the slide here if you believe
17:43
That history is ultimately ending in chaos for the church
17:49
Jesus came Kind of sort of kind of in a way brought the kingdom
17:54
But ultimately the church is defeated in history Jesus comes back to secretly raptured away for tribulation on earth where there's an
18:01
Antichrist figure and locusts and bees and It's just a terrible mess on earth If you believe that and Jesus comes back for a defeated church, then you don't do a lot in history to fight
18:13
Because the worse it gets The better be honest it is for us and this is coming from a guy that used to believe it
18:21
I used to wish myself under rapture It was hilarious The left -behind books,
18:29
I loved it I can remember distinctly believing oops that the rapture was coming at any moment And I was reading the left -behind series.
18:36
It was Arizona. It was summertime. I was in I was at a pool And I was outside of the pool.
18:42
I remember reading left -behind series I remember I finished the left -behind series and I closed the book and I put it down. I was like, yes.
18:48
Yes. Yes Rapture rapture and I remember I was laying on that thing. I was like No, no, no
18:54
No, no, no, you see where the focus goes it's entirely on escaping and Every time
19:05
I when I believe that view of history, which I did not get from the Bible I got it from these books and my professors that taught it to me and Every time things would get bad in the world.
19:16
I can distinctly remember thinking Maranatha come quickly Lord Couldn't wait to get raptured away things get bad around me and my view wasn't be salt be light have victory over this
19:29
Fight bring the good news into this situation lay your life down for this situation
19:35
Bring transformation and light to this situation. My thought was at any moment. We're getting out of here. It's gonna be great
19:41
It's gonna be great And then when God corrected me in his word about the good news of the kingdom and his victory in history
19:49
I began to fight That's how it changed me. Listen. It's not about just having people on your on your your theological team
19:57
It is not simply about having a particular view. You're like, what are you all mill post mill pre mill? I'm pan mill.
20:03
It'll all pin out in the end kind of a you know, all those guys. It's not about a team
20:08
It's not about a title over you. It's not about that. Yes, there happens to be a title post millennialism.
20:14
So what? So what it's a story of God's kingdom and history and his reign and rule in his victory
20:21
Let's get to that Let's next slide we are post millennial. Let me read it to you just a quick definition
20:28
I gave Jesus the Messiah brought the expected kingdom on time and as planned
20:34
He is seated and reigning now His kingdom will grow in history through the preaching of the gospel and the power of the
20:41
Holy Spirit The world will experience the transformational blessings the peace with God brings Jesus will return for the resurrection of the just and the unjust after after all his enemies are
20:56
Put under his feet in victory. The last enemy is death Now notice something every
21:02
Christian we all agree on the non us on the non essentials I'm sorry on the essentials on the non essentials we have disagreements
21:09
But every Christian believes that ultimately at the end of history into eternity. Jesus is victorious.
21:14
Amen Everyone does so even if you're pre male on male There's no question every Christian believes that on each in eternity.
21:20
Jesus is victorious over sin. Amen. Amen. Amen But but but but but there is a distinct view known as post millennialism
21:30
That says that Jesus is kingdom and his reign and victory is something that actually happens within earth's history before he returns for the resurrection that Jesus is actually victorious at the end of history before the
21:46
Resurrection people will be able to look back and say look what God did.
21:52
He is victorious and then the resurrection That's what history doesn't look like and I want to basically
21:57
I have so much to say I will keep you here for six hours. I Would love to but I can't so I'm gonna do my best to give you a brief overview.
22:05
I cannot Give you everything you need to know in one sermon But I want to at least touch some important subjects from my heart that I want you to hear and the first point
22:13
I want You to get is that we cannot forget next slide here that God is the king. Amen and Every Christian every
22:21
Christian should affirm that every Christian should say well, yeah, God is the king, right? But there's a distinct part of this that is just majestic as part of the story.
22:29
You need to hear this This is very powerful. It's something besides all the verses that strikes me as the most powerful moment.
22:36
I think of the New Testament Teaching about who Jesus is is it's not just a story of salvation and Jesus redeeming and rescuing a loss
22:44
But it's the story of God Taking his rightful place as king over his people and over the world
22:52
It's when God became king over his people as a man ruling and reigning
22:58
It's a powerful story. And so you remember the story 1st Samuel chapter 8 chapter 11 the people of Israel like we want a king
23:04
We want a king like the other nations. We want a king to rule over us We want a king and what's the amazing thing is
23:10
Samuel like he's like that's sinful. I Use I perceive that as sinful.
23:16
That's a very light way of saying that That's that's a sinful thing for you to desire a king like the other nations have that's how unbelievers think
23:26
They want a physical guy in a physical throw the rule over them and to tell them what to do But Israel had
23:34
God as their king They didn't need an earthly king and some guy Dictating to them what was law and what wasn't and ruling and reigning they had
23:43
God as king And so when they said we want a king like the other nations It's an amazing thing.
23:48
Samuel's like oh, that's sinful and God says right Give him their king, but let them know that these consequences are gonna follow.
23:57
He's gonna tax you He's gonna take your kids to war. He's gonna do this and it sounds kind of like today in America The consequences of a human king over you taking
24:07
God's position of authority in your lives as God's people has major Consequences and God basically tells
24:13
Samuel listen, they're not resisting you. They're resisting me because I'm their king But go ahead give them their king know this when
24:20
Israel got a king it was a curse on them all right, I'll give you what you want and the glory of this story is that Despite their sin despite that God worked in history to bring about his story of redemption and entered
24:36
Jesus the son of David the promised descendant of Abraham Isaac and Jacob Jesus comes in God takes on flesh to represent his people to save them to fulfill all that was said about him and the amazing thing is is
24:55
That he is the king of kings The Lord of lords and this is powerful.
25:01
Did you do you think this? Do you when you hear the story first of all, that's amazing When you say king of kings
25:07
Lord of lords Christians go you just get like whoo. Yeah Right king of kings
25:12
Lord of Christians go Yes, because it just sounds so powerful because it is but I used to think when you would say king of kings
25:20
Lord of lords It's like Jesus amongst the other kings. He's like he's king kind of king like amongst like Kings He's the king of the
25:28
Kings like, you know over them. He's kind of like the best one of them, right? There's kings and there's lords and Jesus is like the best
25:35
Right and the truth is it's so much more transcendent and deeper than that Jesus as king of kings means he is king over them
25:43
They are kings who answered to him when he's he's a lord of lords. He is Lord over the earthly lords
25:50
He's not like them in the same category as them sort of like them, but better. He is owner king authority over all
26:00
That's the story when we say Jesus is king of kings and we've lost that part of the story We need to turn that part of the orchestra up so we can actually have that story impacting our culture and so We cannot forget that God is
26:15
King a couple points. I want you to get as an overview I'm not gonna touch all these so don't freak out when you see the next slide victory theme in Moses a couple things about victory
26:25
I'm gonna tell you about one is the victory theme in the Old Testament and Moses Second is in the Psalms. The third is in the prophets.
26:31
Okay. Now you can go ahead and write these verses down I am NOT gonna go through all of them today.
26:36
We're gonna be here till tomorrow, which I'm fine with but you may sleep. So Victory theme in Moses couple points number one
26:44
Moses talked about Jesus Jesus said that by the way He tells the
26:51
Jews of his day if you believe Moses you would believe me because he wrote about me now
26:56
That's an audacious claim Moses Moses wrote about Jesus Jesus if you believed him you'd believe me because he wrote about me
27:07
That is crazy. And for those of you guys that come in like naturally skeptical and you're questioning.
27:13
That's a good thing You should be questioning. You should ask those deep questions It should blow your mind that the story of Jesus is not something we say.
27:20
Hey, we really like Jesus We think you should come up kind of come along with us Jesus is saying this whole story is about me all this everything around you is about me bringing me glory and Moses that hero
27:31
Moses The lawgiver that Moses he wrote about me when you read him you're reading about me my story
27:39
That's powerful Moses recorded the proto -evangelium. That's the Genesis 315.
27:44
It's a story where what the fall enters Adam Eve fall and God amazingly talks to Satan That's powerful.
27:56
Not first to the sin breaker the the covenant breakers and the sinners He promises immediately
28:03
Genesis chapter 3. He says the serpents head will be crushed and The woman's seed he's gonna bruise his heel
28:10
It's a powerful thing that God is right away telling us a story of Jesus If you didn't get it, you need to hear it the fall enters in a garden
28:21
They're with God in a garden image bearers of God and they're naked and they're good with it and They sin against God death enters
28:31
God says to them the woman's seed will come and crush the head of the serpent deliver the death blow if you get your head stepped on That's a death blow and notice that this it's a simultaneous action in history
28:46
God says that the woman's seed is going to crush the serpents head simultaneous action
28:54
But be bruised in the process be wounded in the process Notice, it's the woman's seed not the man's seed.
29:02
What do you have there? It's a picture right away of the virgin birth and that day you referred to Offspring as the man's seed not the woman's seed
29:10
So the woman's seed is pointing to Jesus of the virgin birth but it's a simultaneous action in history that's going to cross the serpents head and going to wound the seed that is going to bring life
29:21
Adam and Eve are naked and they deserve to be ashamed and naked and exposed in that garden and Amazingly God has that first innocent for guilty sacrifice that day.
29:33
I had to confess I missed it for many years in my walk with Christ The first animals die innocent for guilty and God covers
29:40
Adam and Eve's nakedness and they're cast out of the garden and Amazingly, the story is so beautiful.
29:47
So majestic here comes Jesus the perfect Representative of his people the second
29:53
Adam he represents his people and where does Jesus die in a garden? Where was he buried in a garden tomb?
30:00
Where did he conquer death in a garden? Jesus Was righteous and blameless and what he died naked and shamed
30:15
God says to Adam and Eve the ground itself is gonna bring forth thorns To display the curse over all the earth even and here comes
30:24
Jesus the second Adam dying taking death where Adam and Eve should have Took that final death and he was naked and shamed not covered and he wore on his head
30:34
The thorns the display the very symbol of the fall of humanity
30:40
Jesus Conquers death in a garden and it's amazing Adam died in a garden was cast out
30:46
Jesus conquered death in a garden and I got to say this to you This is a picture thing here. Very beautiful about God's victory in history
30:53
Adam and Eve died in a garden They had fellowship with God there. They were told to take dominion over the earth and subdue it
30:59
They sinned they were cast out Jesus comes in He comes in he conquers death in a garden and it's amazing the women come
31:09
It's never trippy out the women come and they're like, you know, he's gone. He's gone. He's gone. Where's Jesus at? And they see someone and it's amazing
31:17
That she mistook Jesus for whom? the gardener It's not an accident that John records that she had mistaken
31:27
Jesus for a gardener And this is a big part of the story that John knew the early Christians knew are missing today
31:33
Jesus Told death take that came out of that tomb in a garden and he for some odd reason is mistaken for a gardener
31:44
Listen why cuz he was standing there. She's like he's standing. Oh, you're a gardener. No, why would she think he's a gardener?
31:51
because he was working the grounds and She thought he was a gardener what the first thing the
31:57
Son of Man is doing after he defeats death in a garden where it is where it came in is he starts to work on the grounds and She thinks he's a gardener
32:08
Because when Jesus defeated death in the resurrection, he begins the process of making all things new
32:15
That's where history is going next point Moses recorded the first sacrifice third
32:21
Moses recorded the Dominion mandate Adam and Eve were told to take dominion over the earth and That is not by the way stricken from the record.
32:30
That's a command Moses recorded the covenant with Noah They wouldn't destroy the whole earth again with a flood
32:38
Moses recorded the covenant with Abraham Genesis chapter 12 15 and what did he tell
32:43
Abraham that through your seed? He's gonna bless all the earth and God tells
32:48
Abraham look up Look, look, so shall your descendants be look at the stars can't even count them
32:57
Your seat you like the descent like the sand of the sea That's a lot of stars
33:04
That's a lot of sand He gets the whole point driven. There is you can't even count this
33:12
You can't even understand how much I'm gonna bless that was the promise is listen
33:18
Covenant Covenant is the foundation of what we believe about history. God made a covenant with Abraham that his descendants would be numerous
33:27
More numerous than the stars next point We cannot forget the covenant with David the
33:33
Davidic covenants That David would have an offspring a king Next Moses recorded the promise of the
33:41
Lamb Genesis 22 amazing parts of the story Amazing part of the story Abraham.
33:46
This is your son Your only son the son of your love take the son of your love the one that he was gonna bless the whole world through take the son of your love go to the place of the sacrifice and Abraham goes it's a three -day journey
33:58
Three days to get to the place of the sacrifice all these things pointing to the Messiah and redemption with Abraham Here's Isaac the son of his love his only son the son of the promise and he takes a three -day journey and Isaac his son the promised one the son of his love is carrying the wood to the place of the sacrifice
34:20
It's a three -day journey it wasn't down the street It's not like Abraham God said Abraham take your son right there right there kill him right there right there
34:28
Three days to get to the specific spot his son his only son the son of his love carries the wood to the place of the sacrifice and Isaac gets there with his dad his father.
34:39
He like here's the the sacrifice of the fire. Where's where's the lamb? Listen to the question where's the lamb and Abraham says to his son
34:49
God Will provide for himself the lamb my son
34:56
Listen to it. It's like 1 ,500 years before Christ this is up. It's amazing
35:02
And so he has his son the son of a promise the promise the son of his love Lays him down goes to slay him the angel
35:07
Lord says no. No, no, no Don't do it And then they see a ram
35:13
Not a lamb caught in a thicket and his sacrifice and Abraham names the place. This is the place the
35:19
Lord will provide it And it was about 1 ,500 years later that God gave his son his only son the son of his love
35:28
The wood to carry to the place of the offering and it was at that place that Abraham had gone to offer son
35:34
Isaac That Jesus died for the sins of his people and God did not withhold his hand from his son that day
35:41
And it was at the place that God promised to provide it and God did provide the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world
35:48
Moses pointed to Jesus and told the whole story of victory in this Messiah Moses recorded the foreshadowing of the temple priest and sacrifice can't go into it all today
35:58
But the Bible tells you the entire picture of Jesus before he comes Everything necessary to know
36:03
Jesus is written in the Bible before he comes listen I was talking to a Jewish girl years ago and her parents were
36:12
Immigrants from Israel and She she came to me and she said listen
36:18
Jeff. I'm Jewish. I'm not a Christian Jewish. I don't believe in Jesus I said cool.
36:23
She goes, but I want to talk to you. I said, okay, I said, I'll tell you what I'm gonna tell you about Jesus and I'm gonna use only that's not gonna
36:31
Torah to do it Only the books that you see a scripture the ones that you kiss at synagogue and she was like,
36:37
I dare you try it So he spent two weeks talking together about Jesus from just using the
36:43
Old Testament scriptures the Tanakh and the Torah It's where I stayed and after two weeks she calls her mom
36:50
And she says mom. I think I'm starting to believe in Jesus and Her mom says no, no, no.
36:56
No, we're Jews. We don't believe in Jesus We don't do that and she said mom This guy I'm talking to is only talking to me from our books the
37:04
Tanakh the Torah the old that he's only using that I think I'm is there any good reason to believe that Jesus is not
37:11
Messiah any reason and her mom was silent and After like 30 seconds this girl told me after only 30 seconds her mom was silent
37:21
She said to her mom mom. Is there any reason not to believe Jesus as much I believe Jesus is not the
37:26
Messiah and her mom said No An amazing thing you could tell somebody the entire story of Jesus just by using the
37:35
Old Testament scriptures Everything necessary to know him the who the what the where and the where the why every details laid out
37:41
Next point Moses recorded the victory of the Messiah. I want you just to see this go to numbers 14 21 and Genesis 49 10 numbers 14 21 and Genesis 49 10 14 21 numbers 14 21 the
38:21
Lord responded. I have pardoned them as you requested yet as surely as I live The whole earth is
38:30
Filled with the look of the glory of God the Lord's glory some of your translations worded differently But the whole picture there is that the earth itself be filled with the glory of God Moses now
38:40
Genesis 49 verse 10. This one is one of my favorites because the name is so amazing
38:47
Shiloh We miss these things a lot Genesis 49 10 says the scepter will not depart from Judah or the staff from between his feet until Shiloh comes or until he who's right it is comes and listen closely and the obedience of the people's belongs to him listen
39:07
Moses told about this Messiah as Conquering the world that all the obedience was going to be his
39:14
The story of Jesus having victory over the world is not something the Puritans made up If anybody has to blame about the story of victory in history, let's blame
39:25
Moses Next point quickly. You can write these down victory in the
39:30
Psalms. Just write them down I cannot do them all with you now. Just write them down Psalm 66 467 to you can write these down for later, but listen closely.
39:40
I want you to hear Psalm 72 5 through 8 one of my favorite verses and it's simple
39:48
Psalm 72 5 through 8 Listen here
39:58
May he continue while the Sun endures and as long as the moon throughout all generations
40:03
May he be like rain that falls on the cut grass like spring showers that water on the earth May the righteous flourish in his days and prosperity abound and so the moon is no more
40:12
May he rule from sea to sea and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth
40:19
He shall have dominion Verse 11 let all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him that sounds like a rabid post -millennialist
40:33
The psalmist sounds like a fire -breathing post -millennialist there doesn't he Dominion from sea to sea from the river to the
40:40
Euphrates sea to sea may all the kings bow down to him and all the nations
40:45
Serve him. Is it any wonder that the apostles in the book of Acts are preaching the kingdom of God the kingdom of God day
40:53
And night kingdom of God victory in the world. Jesus is reigning. What was their story? He must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet and the gospel went out to all the nations
41:04
Your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world It was kind of a big deal in the first century that the gospel is no longer going to just use but also
41:12
Gentiles You know why think about this for a second I want you to raise your hands for a second and don't be embarrassed about this
41:17
How many of you guys in the room are Jewish by birth? By birth How many of you guys in this room are?
41:28
Gentiles not Jews by birth but worship and love and adore and serve Jesus Raise your hand
41:39
Fulfillment of prophecy all the nations would stream up to the mountain of God You see it right here in front of you guys and it started with like 11 very confused disciples at the ascension of Jesus 2 ,000 years ago in Palestine here we are in the bottom part of Texas Worshippers of the
41:54
Lord God of Israel because of this Messiah all the nations streaming to him now next victory in the prophets
42:01
Isaiah 9 very important victory in the prophets Isaiah 9 6 through 7 listen closely
42:07
You know this passage don't you Isaiah 9 clearly says what? He shall be called wonderful counselor
42:15
El Gabor the mighty God the father of eternity Now what we miss there is everyone puts it on their
42:23
Christmas card and they go look that's Jesus. He's God He's God. He's God.
42:28
See Trinity. Booyah. Gotcha. Sibelius. I gotcha.
42:34
He's God We use it like as just a springboard text verse to prove Jesus as God, but powerfully listen closely.
42:40
It says something else in the verse Read it Isaiah 9 powerful Isaiah 9 verse 6
42:47
After it says he's wonderful counselor Father of eternity Prince of Peace verse 7 the dominion of be vast and its prosperity will never end some translations say of the increase of his government there shall be no end and Over his kingdom to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever
43:06
Listen go to your Bibles read Daniel 7 notice that the Son of Man he sees coming on the clouds
43:12
He comes up to the ancient of days by the way, very important Which direction is the Messiah come he comes where up he comes where up you got to get a
43:21
Daniel 7 He comes up to the ancient of days He's given a kingdom that all nations tribes tongues peoples would serve him
43:29
Notice Jesus in the ascension go therefore make disciples of all nations
43:35
Baptizing in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit teaching them to what obey and then he ascends which way did he go
43:43
Up what was he given the nation's what did he tell you to go get?
43:49
The nation's what did the Messiah have to have in order to truly be seen as Messiah the nation's?
43:56
What's in this room right now? Representatives of the nations that have come to this
44:02
Messiah. He shall have dominion I'm gonna end with these points quickly.
44:08
I know I'm going over on time, but I have those sins so You got me all the way to Texas give me a few minutes, okay
44:15
Just a few more minutes Matthew 5 Matthew 5 what did
44:21
Jesus do when he entered I? Want you to see it Matthew 5 17
44:27
Jesus comes in after you hear this story of the Old Testament of this Messiah getting the nation's Having dominion given a kingdom over the whole world the obedience of the nations was going to be his
44:37
He was gonna conquer sin. He was gonna conquer death He was a pierced through for our transgressions that whole story is there but Matthew 5
44:45
I want you to see in verse 17 Jesus as the perfect Israelite Conquer Satan in the wilderness 40 days and nights as Israel failed in the wilderness
44:53
Jesus the perfect Israelite doesn't fail He has victory over Satan in the wilderness and as soon as he comes out as the perfect Israelite not failing in the wilderness as Israel did
45:06
Jesus comes out and what does he say? Verse 17 from then on Jesus began to preach repent because the kingdom of heaven has come near Jesus comes out of the wilderness and as soon as he come to his ministry.
45:20
What's he say? Repent the kingdom of God is near it's at hand It's here and look at look at again next verse just a little bit down look closely what he says
45:30
Jesus was going all over Galilee teaching in their synagogues preaching the good news of the kingdom listen listen
45:38
Here is our error We preach the gospel today as Christians with bumper stickers that say give
45:44
Jesus a chance. He died for the opportunity You ever seen that bumper sticker
45:50
I Loathe that bumper sticker give Jesus a chance. He died for the opportunity.
45:58
I Struggle with my own sanctification when I see that bumper sticker because I want to take the car and ram it off the road
46:06
Jesus didn't die. So you would have a chance get to give him a chance Jesus commands you to repent and believe this world is under new authority
46:16
He says come to him and there's message of life and peace in that message and forgiveness, but make no mistake about it
46:23
He's not asking for a chance. He's telling you who he is and he commands you to come for life
46:28
That's the truth of the story. Jesus came with the good news of the kingdom We've forgotten that it's good news
46:33
It's not just about forgiveness and salvation, but it's the good news of his rule and reign It's a good thing that God became man to rule and reign until his enemies are under his feet.
46:43
That's good news The world is no longer under the sway of the evil one in the sense that he can have victory over the world
46:50
There's no longer a blindness and a lostness that is just remained or humanity Jesus owns the nations and God says he has him
47:00
What does God say to Jesus in Psalm chapter 2, what did he say to Jesus? He says ask of me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance
47:10
Something I love that. Dr. Greg Bonson used to always say this is the simplicity of his argument about post -millennialism
47:17
Psalms 2 says Ask of me and I'll give you the nations for your inheritance
47:22
He would just put it down like this. Do you think Jesus forgot to ask the father? I can tell you most assuredly
47:31
Jesus did not forget to ask because Jesus when he left us in Matthew 28 18 through 20 said go therefore
47:43
And whenever you see the word therefore in Scripture see what it's there for What's before it all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me therefore go
47:57
Get the nations He talked your pastor Ron. He's I love Ron Talks about the
48:03
Puritans the Puritans the Puritans believe that they were like get the nations go get them. They're cannibals They're gonna eat your face off They'll eat your face off and the
48:13
Puritans were like the nations are his go Get them
48:20
When you know who Jesus truly is in his rule and reign he gives you all the confidence in the world you go get him
48:28
Jesus gave us the timing of the kingdom. What did he say? He even said if you don't believe it if you don't believe he brought the kingdom if you don't believe it
48:35
Then you got to reckon with Jesus's words in Matthew 16 28. He says some of you won't die Until you see the kingdom of God come with power who those first century apostles
48:45
You can't get away from that some of you won't die until you see it come with power. That was first century.
48:50
They're dead He brought it The Lord's Prayer you say it all the time this is where we'll end the
48:58
Lord's Prayer Jesus the Messiah the perfect God and man comes in fulfillment of everything and it's amazing
49:06
We've stripped the message from his lips today as Christians He's saying kingdom kingdom kingdom the whole world all the nations and we've taken it out of his mouth and we're like shh
49:16
Shh Defeat Get us out of here. Get us out of here.
49:22
Jesus is coming in famous sermon sermon on the mount He says the meek shall inherit the earth and he
49:31
John 17 Jesus says I do not pray father you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one
49:36
We're like shh shh We want to go He says inherit the earth
49:45
Jesus says don't take them father, but just keep them from the evil one He says to his people be salt be light be a preservative be a city on a hill to the world
49:55
That's what Jesus taught and then when he tells his people to pray he says to his people you pray like this our father who?
50:01
art in heaven Hallowed be thy name by the way, it's powerful a person I heard do this best was amazingly
50:07
John Piper gave the best exegesis of that text that word Hallowed we say what's that mean?
50:15
Hallowed we go Oh Hallowed and young people are like, what is that like a light chicken gravy? I don't know what that is
50:20
Hallowed is holy. Jesus is saying father. May your name be Holied throughout the earth may people in Canada and China and Africa and Russia all over Europe Holy your name in an amazing
50:35
Jesus says kingdom kingdom kingdom good news of kingdom and he says to his people He says go and you pray
50:41
God that his name would be holy throughout the whole world Holyed that people would revere God as holy and he says your kingdom come and listen
50:50
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven question how
50:59
Rigorous, do you think the commitment in heaven is to God's will? pretty rigorous and We asked the question did does
51:09
God does Jesus intend for the world to be transformed by his gospel?
51:15
Through his leadership and authority and by his law. Do we believe it? He told you to pray for it
51:20
He told his people you pray his kingdom comes and his will is done. Listen on Earth as it is in heaven.
51:29
So so what? So what does that mean everything? It means that you and I go forth of the proclamation of good news
51:36
That is powerful that is mighty and that is bold it is filled with peace and love
51:43
Forgiveness and salvation, but it comes with authority and it comes with hope that the future for us is
51:49
Glorious because God because God has the nation's they belong to him
51:55
Jesus says to the father give him to me. The father says they're yours and then the warning comes in the
52:01
Psalms Be wise verse 2 of Psalms chapter 2 chapter 2 the psalm says be wise
52:07
O Kings Obey the Sun or you will perish
52:14
When his wrath is kindled Happy are those who trust in him.
52:20
That's a that's a dual thing to the Kings obey him or You're gonna perish and to us as his people
52:28
Happy are those who trust in him The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof all the nations belong to him and I want to say to you you want to Simplify it's very simple pray the
52:38
Lord's Prayer and mean it and Mean it and here's the final thing
52:45
Go therefore all authority in heaven and earth is his
52:52
Go therefore Proclaim that truth. Don't hide Don't hide one thing
52:57
I respected by your pastor I'll end on this is that this church actually cares enough about what's going on around in the world to say something
53:05
To say something people go. Oh, you're just religious right -wing nuts Who cares about?
53:11
right -wing Republican doesn't matter listen It is about it is about the gospel and it's not about being associated with a petty political party
53:23
It's about the good news of the kingdom and that God has something to say to this president and this nation when they murder 3 ,000 babies a day
53:31
Jesus has something to say about that And God has something to say to a nation that wants to destroy the foundations of what he puts in for society
53:42
Jesus says be wise Oh King and we can and should
53:50
Christians speak to the governing authorities be wise obey the Son He says to you you may not do that.
53:58
You may not have that and that's what we stand on Gone are the days as Christians where we should placate to the world and pretend to be neutral like they're pretending
54:06
They're not neutral. Neither. Are you you come with the gospel of the King go therefore, let's pray father
54:12
Thank you for your goodness and this message. I pray you bless it to your glory in Jesus name.
54:17
Amen Are you saying?
54:33
That the purpose of redemption is not to take us to heaven but to bring heaven to earth that's audacious
54:40
If you believe that say hey, hey Hallelujah Let's stand and pray
54:47
Charlie. Come and lead us in prayer. I Can't think of a better thing for us to do then to for all of us to pray
55:02
Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
55:11
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation
55:22
But deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever
55:30
Amen Oh Now may the
56:01
Lord bless you and keep you The Lord makes his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace and all
56:11
God's people said God bless you. You're dismissed. I think we're going to have a
