You Won't Regret Watching This

In the beginning, God had a plan. He created light, sky, dry land, seas, plants, trees, sun, moon, stars, birds, sea creatures, land animals, humans.

Creation, Adam, and the Fall

You're sitting there going, is this one of those guys who believes that God created the world in seven days? And my answer to you is absolutely not. He did it in six.

Look, it's Adam. He's the representative for the human race. If Christ is merely our example.

And there was no virgin birth, then he stands condemned because Adam is his federal head, as are all of those who come by natural generation.

God commissions him to be fruitful and take dominion over all creation. But Adam can't do this alone.

He needs help. All the way through, two things. Let there be, it is good. First time he says something is not good is when he looks at the man by himself. It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him.

Look, it's Eve.

Oh, and they're not supposed to eat from this tree. If they obey all of this, they receive eternal life and joy with God. If they don't, well, let's just see. Look, it's Satan. He tricks Eve. Eve eats the forbidden fruit.

She gives some to Adam. He rebels against God and eats too.

God creates man and he gives the man the woman and the man and the woman are to have authority and dominion over the beasts. God, man, woman, everything that they have dominion over. What happens in the fall?

The beast deceives the woman, thus exercising dominion over her. The woman tempts the man, thus exercising dominion over him. And the man eats in order that he might be like God. They flip the order upside down.

That's the fall.

Disaster, sin enters God's good creation and takes over Adam and Eve and the entire human race Adam represents.

Original Sin and the Need for Rescue

Here's who you were before you came to Christ. You came with fleshly desires that were against God. You came with desires of your body and your mind that were alienated to God. You came with desires that were evil and the devil and the world did not have to seek you out.

You rested in them because they gave you exactly what you wanted. The devil knows your name and you know his voice. You were convinced that he loved you as much as you loved him. The world was a comfortable place to you.

It was all that you wanted and that is because your very nature craved it. This is why the doctrine of original sin is so important. If we don't understand the doctrine of original sin, then we don't get this.

We don't understand the sinfulness of our sin because somehow we think that we're innocent and our environment just somehow made us go all wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Promise of the Seed and the Story of Israel

Banished from the Garden of Eden, but before that happens, God promises a savior. I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring. He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel.

Hope. One child, a second child, the second kills the first. Hope dwindles. Things get worse and worse. God chooses to punish the wickedness of the human race with a flood and start over with just Noah and his family.

Look, it's Abraham. God calls Abraham to start a nation, to be his chosen people from which the savior will come. Abraham has a son, Isaac. Isaac has a son, Jacob. Jacob has 12 sons. Joseph's brothers hate him and sell him into slavery in Egypt.

But God is with Joseph and he becomes the second most powerful man in Egypt. God does all of this to save Judah from whom the savior will come.

Because God rescues Joseph in order to rescue Judah, in order to rescue Israel, in order to rescue me. This is not about material wealth. This is about rescue and redemption. This is about God in his providence orchestrating all of history in order to bring about that which we need more than anything else.

And that is to be rescued from God. Hey, this is Michael.

Moses, the Law, and the Failure of Israel

The Israelites end up in Egypt. They become slaves. Look, it's Moses. God uses Moses to save the Israelites from Egypt. Moses leads the Israelites to Mount Sinai. God gives the Ten Commandments, his moral law.

God gives other laws that separate the Israelites from all other nations. The Israelites get to the Promised Land. The Israelites fail to complete the conquest of the Promised Land. The Israelites become unfaithful to God.

The period of the judges. Many leaders, some faithfulness, much unfaithfulness. A really dark time. Samuel judges the Israelites. The Israelites want a king like the other nations. Samuel anoints Saul king.

Saul fails. Look, it's David. David kills Goliath. Saul dies. David becomes king. A golden age for Israelites. Is the savior here? No. David's son Solomon builds the temple. Solomon's son Rehoboam becomes king.

The Israelites are unfaithful again. God sends prophets to the Israelites. The Israelites reject the prophets. God judges the Israelites with the destruction of the temple and the Babylonian captivity.

The Israelites are released and returned to rebuild the temple, a shadow of what once was. Then, silence for 400 years. Look, it's Jesus. He says he's God. He's the savior. He does miracles. He teaches incredible things.

Repent and believe in the gospel. He lives a perfect life. Definitely seems like he's the savior. The Jewish people are excited. Jesus will overthrow the Romans and establish a new kingdom like David's kingdom.

The Jewish leaders are not excited. Jesus threatens their authority. They plot to kill Jesus. Their plot succeeds. Jesus is tortured and crucified. Apparently, Jesus wasn't the savior. Devastation. But wait, there's Jesus again.

I thought he died. No, he rose from the dead, conquering sin and death.

He is the savior. All I have is God wrapped himself in flesh, died on a cross, nailed my sin thereto, was placed in the grave, rose again on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the father, and is there making intercession for me until such time as my salvation is completed and he takes me home.

Christ's Death, Resurrection, and the Great Commission

That's all I got. Jesus shows up to lots of people, proving everything he taught. Hope, once again. But this time, it's here to stay. Jesus tells his people to make disciples of all nations. Jesus ascends to heaven.

Pentecost. The Holy Spirit comes in a new way, empowering Christians and continuing to validate Jesus's message. Thousands and thousands believe. Look, it's Paul. Paul kills lots of Christians. Jesus appears to Paul.

Paul converts. Paul brings the gospel to the Gentiles and writes half of the New Testament. Did Paul write the most amazing paragraph in the Bible? But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.

For there is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified by his grace as a gift through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood to be received by faith.

This was to show God's righteousness because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Regardless, Paul's story is crazy and amazing. Look, it's Peter and Cornelius. The gospel completely opens up to the Gentiles. Persecution, lots of persecution, but the gospel spreads, Christianity spreads.

It's unstoppable. Jesus is coming again, but this time as judge and king. Will you be his enemy or his friend? Repent and believe today and be saved. If you're his friend, you'll experience eternal joy with God in the new heavens and new earth, which Jesus is coming to establish.
