Shepherding Immortal Souls (5th Commandment) — Law Homily

“Honour thy father and thy mother” is not only a command for children—it is a word for the whole household.

Children are called to receive parental instruction with humility and honor. Parents are called to exercise authority as stewards, not owners—shepherding immortal souls through the Word, prayer, discipline, repentance, and faith.

And where our homes fall short, we go to Christ: the perfect Son who honored His Father without flaw, and who went to the cross for dishonoring children and failing parents.

May our homes become places where God is honored, Christ is loved, and the faith is handed down from generation to generation.

"Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." — Exodus 20:12
