Part 2 - Gavin Ortlund Defends The Real Presence of Christ In The Eucharist
Part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcpUK07enOc
What does the Bible teach regarding the Lord's Supper? Are the communion elements symbolic or did Jesus literally teach you must eat human flesh and drink His literal blood to be saved? Watch out for Ortlund, he says he is a Baptists then he defends this view (Real Presence) which came out of the Catholic Church. Technically in his video he is quoting a Lutheran but at the end of the day consubstantiation or whatever term he is using, it is not really that different than transubstantiation. This appears to be a stepping stone to get Evangelicals a step closer to Rome since in the last controversy surrounding Ortlund, it was him defending Catholics as true Christians therefore the implication being the gospel of Rome is efficacious for salvation. Be careful, nobody de-converts from Biblical Christianity to become Catholic overnight, it happens in stages and from what I see from Ortlund is slowly trying to pull people in that direction, at the very least he is promoting a form of hyper-ecumenical thought. Listen and find out!

The most important thing!
Salvation is available for anyone who would repent and turn to Jesus for forgiveness! The true gospel is Christ crucified and risen for the remission of sin. A person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6). The Scripture says if you would confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved! Romans 10:9. The next step after salvation is to get baptized and start learning & serving in a good local Bible believing church.

Hello, I just wanted to do one more quick video on Gavin Ortlund teaching on the real presence of Christ in the
Eucharist Gavin Ortlund claims to be a Baptist and yet I don't know too many Baptists who call the
Lord's Supper a sacrament and they definitely don't call it the Eucharist This typically is a
Roman Catholic idea, but Gavin Ortlund is teaching on the real presence of Christ in the
Eucharist So I wanted to do a part two my part one Video on this subject is a members only video on my channel
So I wanted to do this part two, so I want you to hear the clip We'll come back and talk about it
Real presence simply means that Christ's body and blood are really present in the consecrated
Wine and bread of the Eucharist or the Lord's Supper or communion you can call it So in my tradition the way
I like to put it is that the one who participates worthily in the Lord's Supper that is by Truly is feasting upon Christ and his benefits in the gospel.
This is more than a mere remembrance of Christ Christ is active giving himself to us in an intimate way in this sacrament
Now lots of people are surprised to discover that as a Baptist. Oh As a Baptist you really believe in real presence.
Yes Here's how Martin Chemnitz the Lutheran theologian put it in canvassing the church fathers The father's called the body and blood of the
Lord which are present in the supper a saving sacrifice Because that sacrifice which was once offered on the cross
The body and blood of the Lord is present is dispensed offered and taken in the
Lord's Supper So that the power and efficacy of this offering once made on the cross is applied and sealed
Individually to all who receive it in faith. So here the languages of application and sealing Okay, so notice that Gavin Ortlund claims to be a
Baptist. Well the Baptists. I know don't call it a sacrament They certainly don't call it the
Eucharist, but they don't call it a sacrament we and I say we Baptist independent
Bible churches Nondenominational churches we call it an ordinance because communion or the
Lord's Supper This is something that Christ ordained hence the term ordinance once you start calling it a sacrament
That conveys a very different idea. This is the idea that Rites and rituals that is how
God distributes his grace that grace is transferred through the right or the sacrament of The Eucharist so totally different concept.
I'm Convinced that the Bible teaches that God's grace is a free gift and certainly salvation is by grace through faith
Not of works, but once you say that God's grace is communicated through a work that you do communion
You've left evangelicalism. You've left evangelical teaching and now you're into you know, the realms of Orthodoxy and Catholicism.
Well the Catholic Church I think we know that the Catholic Church teaches salvation is by faith plus works
That you need to partake in the sacraments in order to be saved. It's through the church through the sacraments
Well, Gavin Ortlund says that he does not hold to the Roman Catholic view of the real presence
But it doesn't really matter whether you call it transubstantiation or consubstantiation call it something else
It doesn't matter at the end of the day if you hold to the view of real presence These are distinctions without much of a difference and then you hear him saying that video clip
He not only believes in real presence he quotes an early church father who calls the Eucharist a
Saving sacrifice and that you must partake of the bread in order to have the efficacy of the cross applied so if you want
The benefits of the cross applied to your account if you want to be sealed I thought you were sealed by the
Holy Spirit, but no Gavin Ortlund agrees with this early church father who says this is done through the
Eucharist We got a problem here, so if this isn't a false gospel
At best you're muddying the water. If not throwing a wrench into the whole thing
If it's not a false gospel, it comes awfully close Saying that the cross
Wasn't enough because the cross was the true sacrifice that happened 2 ,000 years ago
If you're gonna tell me that the Eucharist is a Saving sacrifice and you have to partake in it right now today to be sealed and to receive that like this is not
What the Bible teaches this is Roman Catholicism. This is Eastern Orthodoxy He can say well,
I'm not Catholic and I'm not Orthodox, but the last time we saw Gavin Ortlund. What was he doing? He was on Ruslan KD's podcast saying that Catholics were true brothers and sisters in Christ.
So this is a bad trajectory Gavin Ortlund claims to be a Baptist a lot of Baptists listen to him.
He claims to be reformed He writes for the gospel coalition. He has all sorts of different people listening to him. And what are they getting?
They're getting the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. So I thought it was important that we talk about this so I think this is
Dangerous if you don't believe me, maybe you'll consider what this website says got questions dot
Org, this is a very reputable Christian website here is what they say about the doctrine known as the real presence of Christ They say there are two major problems with this teaching
First there is no way that a ceremony can recreate
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ they say several passages in the New Testament claim that Jesus's death was once for all
Romans 6 10 Hebrews 7 verse 27 9 12 10 10 first Peter 3 18
They continue we have no way of participating in an act that occurred nearly 2 ,000 years ago except in a symbolic
Sense but remember Gavin Ortlund quoted that early church father who called the Eucharist a true saving sacrifice
You want the efficacy of the cross applied to you? You must partake in the Eucharist Got questions goes on that is a great
Controversy this idea of the real presence of Christ this belief of real presence on a practical level
They say the bread does not become flesh. The wine does not become blood. In other words
Christ is not present in the Eucharist now the Spirit of Christ The Holy Spirit is omnipresent is
Christ there with us when we partake Yes spiritually in a sense, but the bread and wine.
It's it's symbolic. Okay. This is the memorial view They're going to get to that So they say the literal flesh and blood are not present and they say no amount of belief is going to make it so and Then the more urgent issue they say is the false belief that God's blessing and nourishment comes through the bread and wine
They talk about how Roman Catholicism teaches this that it is a conduit this sacrament
It's a conduit through which God provides blessing and salvation that's what the early church father was saying
Essentially in addition to placing the priest between the congregants and God They also placed the bread and wine between themselves and God They believe they are blessed because of their obedience in taking communion and that blessing literally streams from God through the bread and wine
Into their souls This is what a sacrament is folks got questions org says this is not what
Jesus taught He said quote I am the bread of life and it is the Spirit who gives life the flesh
Prophets nothing the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life John 6 48 and verse 63
Jesus is the bread of life But he is also the Word of God John 1 1 the bread that nourishes the point is the bread that nourishes is the
Word of God Matthew 4 verse 4 not a wafer that somehow transforms into the real presence of Christ's flesh and blood
The idea that we have to go through a human ritual or ceremony to receive the grace of God or that Spiritual nourishment is the type of belief that Jesus came to abolish
His death tore the veil in the temple giving us the ability to have a direct relationship with God Hebrews 4 16 that veil was not replaced by the act of blessing and eating bread
In wine and to that I just say amen So what is the correct view of the
Lord's Supper it is called the memorial view after all Jesus said do this in remembrance of me so you remember it is a memorial so we
Remember what Jesus did on the cross his sacrifice? We remember the sacrifice and we worship him because of it.
The Lord's Supper is not about participating in some sort of Reenactment or Resacrificing of Christ's flesh in the shedding of his blood, so I would recommend that you avoid anyone
Anyone I don't care if they call themselves a Baptist or not Catholic Eastern or anyone who teaches the real presence of Christ In the
Eucharist, this is a very very dangerous teaching and that's not just my view
It's the view of every Baptist that I know of anyone who knows about this Got questions, obviously called this a false belief.
So if you're teaching it, wouldn't that be a false teaching? This is the type of stuff that leads people into Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy and there's a lot of evangelicals you know deconstructing and Deconverting and going into the
Roman Catholic Church and my friends. We want to warn about this Apostasy thanks for watching and until next time may the
