Well, good evening. Well, uh be getting started here. Let me open us up with a word of prayer and then we'll get right to it. Father God, we thank you for this evening we thank you for this opportunity once again to gather around your word and to look how you revealed yourself and Redemptive history and father.
We thank you that you've given us a book to study to examine and that it's forever Settled and that father your revelation is complete and all we should do is just look at it and stand in awe so father as we Go through some of these topics tonight.
But you would open up our minds and that you would open up our ears that we would hear and open up our eyes that We may see in Jesus name. Amen. If you want to open your Bible to Being Matthew a little bit so if you want to go ahead and open there you can Chapter one.
What were the four theological constructs? Correct. Oh, there we go. There you go. Okay. But look good. What's up, yeah. Yeah. And The last goal reform theology. Yes. Hey, and what is what are all of these Attempting to do when I say attempt I use that loosely because I think they all are in good faith Trying to convey something.
So just bear with me. There's no. Because I do have things and I think I've said this last week. There are things about this I think There are some strengths to it. Although I disagree There are some strengths to this how I understand how they come to their conclusion Strengths here, but don't get down with that.
But I think this is the best way of what and what's that? What are all over? They all trying to do? They're trying to show the flow of redemption with the fulfillment in Christ. That's what they're ultimately that's what they're all trying to do now.
With dispensations we may remember what dispensationalism does it does it through? Seven Ethics or seven dispensations. That's what they they try to do. I Understand how they come to their seven dispensations.
I just They stop at the Millennium. Anybody know that. And if we have noticed that but dispensationalism their construct stops at the Millennium, you know, there is another Phase after the Millennium and that's the eternal state.
So it shouldn't stop there. But and Supersessionism basically says because of the failure of Failure of Israel National ethic Israel the Old Testament God now has replaced them with the church. I Understand how they do that there are some Like the lawless vinedressers Parable, it says that I will take it from that I would take it from them and give it to a nation that will then produce fruit.
I don't believe that saying I'm taking the promises away from Israel now I'm giving it to the church it actually saying what was Israel's job in the Old Testament there were supposed to be a kingdom of priests in the kingdom of Of priesthood that would be a light to the nation's they failed to do that.
So in that parable. The parable saying well, we're going to take it from you and give it to an ethnic a nation. Ethnic is the Greek word that you used in that parable and that just means the Gentiles or other people other than the Jewish Israel Israelites to then be a light to the Gentiles.
That's what they were going to be. So what's the church ultimately now? What is the church? We're the light of the world. We are the but what was what was Israel supposed to be in the Old Testament? They were.
What's that? And to be a light to the work to the Gentile nations. Yeah, and they failed to do that. Then reformed the all covenant theology says that the Israel is the church. And I understand how they get there.
I mean technically speaking when. When did the we all know that the word for church is ecclesia the called out when did that begin? Well, technically it would have began back in the Old Testament. Who were the we would even say?
Was Adam called out. Yes. Abel called out. Yes Cain. No, Seth. Yeah, so we see how they come to that conclusion. But theirs runs on basically three covenants. Covenant of Redemption. Covenant of works.
Covenant of grace. Which are not really mentioned they are it is a structure that's created by. Well, I always say they put a grid over the scripture and that dictates it, okay. So if someone holds that position, I don't.
I'm not upset with them, but I prefer let's use language that's consistently used in Scripture and everybody remember what my last week I promise in covenant. That's the construct of scripture biblically.
I Know I threw some of you off last week when I said that the proton Evangelium was not the first promise in the Bible. They remember the first promise was Say last week. What's up? That's it. That was a promise from God.
To Adam says you eat of the fruit of the tree the knowledge of good and evil. You'll die. That's it. Don't do it because the day you do it and dying you will die. And that was a promise they did what God told him not to do and then he promised he would send a serpent crusher and That's when we started our line of redemption.
Anybody remember what I said the garden? Real real garden with real plush place to live, but it represented something it is Typological if you don't like the word type because we really don't have a type of Nancy type.
We can all agree an illustration. Okay. What the what was this an illustration over a picture of what you said? Yep. Temple always called it the temple garden if you may remember when I Began revelation, that's how I started the book of Revelation is hey.
The beginning of the Bible begins with the temple garden and you have all this plush place to live. Everything provided rivers and trees and all this but when you get to the end of the book What ends with the temple garden begins with a temple garden into the garden and that is the dwelling place?
I mean a new new heavens new earth, which is just a recreated temple garden. And this if you would have said this I would have been fine with this the dwelling place Of God because of the fall. Which happened very quickly on our line our timeline?
Happened very quickly. They were exiled From the garden. It's interesting even when we you go on 2 ,000 years later roughly I guess Somewhere around there see it was about 1 ,656 years to the flood and you had a few generations to Adam.
I mean to Abraham and therefore yeah, probably maybe 2 ,500 more before the dwelling place of God Comes up again. So because you're exiled from the garden the dwelling place of God's just Just out there.
It was something that was never could you could no more dwelling with God? He was not among his people in this way. Okay, not saying he didn't talk to Noah I'm not saying that Enoch didn't walk with God then was trained.
That's not what we're saying. We're talking about the dwelling place of God where God would call his people and then they would come and worship. That did not develop again until Moses and the tabernacle Tabernacle that actually took them one year to build and then the dwelling place of God developed.
But when he gave the dwelling place of God and how it was going to develop. He said there would be some if you when he gave the law if you do this you live. You continue to disobey me. What would he do to them?
He would exile them from the land. Disobedience caused him to be exiled from the garden, right? Disobey the Mosaic law Will be happening to you and your land. You'd be exiled from it and we know that that happened in 586 BC when Nebuchadnezzar came in so that is how things are unfolding and as those things unfolded we had the covenant the Noahic Covenant and what was the promise of it?
What's that? No world life left. No world. I never destroy again. Yeah by water. Yep, no, no more destruction by water. Then you go on and then we had the Abrahamic Covenant and This head is probably has multiple Answers to it.
Okay. Good car. Yeah multiple multiple multifaceted. So under the Abrahamic Covenant, what was what was the immediate promise to him and that he would all the nations. In Genesis 12 3 it was in all the all the world in your seed all seed Singular all the all the nations or all the families of the earth would be blessed.
So there was a seed promise and There was also you said it plan. Yeah, well even inside the Abrahamic Covenant you also then have Covenant of circumcision. Get it covered. I mean that's part of that. So now inside the Abrahamic Covenant.
That's that promise is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. And how do we know that? Because you Abraham had Isaac Isaac had Jacob and he God sent his affection. We actually had two sons, but he said his affection on who you said it Jacob.
And he said in you your name is now Israel you're gonna be a nation and I'm gonna put my my promise on you and he did this real time and out of his 12 sons. The tribe of Judah would be the one at the Messianic wine Would come.
And it would be through that that we would then have David from David would be the greater son David. So that's how the seed promise is fulfilled of the Abrahamic and the land remember, I think I Probably overwhelmed y 'all with probably passages that some of y 'all probably never read through or made that connection.
Last week with my vomit of information on the land promise being fulfilled. Remember the land promise is fulfilled, you know, this this whole system up here is Predicated on the Abrahamic promise not yet being fulfilled and anybody remember the the most clearly and explicit one is Joshua when they came into the land Joshua 21 and it anybody go back and read any of those.
It clearly says it was fulfilled. Fulfilled and if that wasn't enough I gave you some more if that wasn't enough I gave you some more if that wasn't if I gave you some more and if that wasn't enough you get to Solomon and what did Solomon say?
Everything that he had promised the forefathers had been fulfilled in that time. Now as we get to the New Testament, I will if I Get time. I do want to try to Romans 4 says that basically that land promise was expanded.
So let's just say I was gonna buy Lou. I told Luke my youngest son. Hey when you get Old enough that you can you can drive. I'm gonna I'm gonna get you some transportation. And I get him a moped. I'm gonna get you a moped.
I'm gonna get you a little moped dude. That's gonna get you back and forth to work. But when he turned 16, I Buy him a brand new car. I didn't get him when I told him I was gonna get him. But I got him something better and fulfilled my promise with something bigger and better.
That's what happens with the Abrahamic promise. He says look I'm gonna give you from the Nile to the Euphrates but in Romans 4, what does he wind up giving him the whole world? Hopefully we'll get to that point you raise your hand.
Hopefully we'll get to that point tonight. Maybe if not, we've still got a few more weeks that will bump into it again towards the end. So So far so good now Moses. Moses was given the Sinai Covenant or the Mosaic legislation or The Old Covenant and inside that Old Covenant came all kinds of stuff came the priesthood Came how to worship.
It had judicial law it had civil law it had Ceremonial law and all these laws that in and of themself are moral to the core. Okay every violation of the 613 commands and prohibitions under the Mosaic legislation was a violation of a moral infraction if you had a Had two fabrics sewed together that were not the same fabric got the violation of Mosaic law.
Some of y 'all remember when I told y 'all I was talking to Keith on the phone. And there was a Jewish man inside the house somebody over in the Sunday school class. I brought this up. He overheard me and he came out and he wanted to debate about all the Mosaic law.
Blah blah blah blah. I never told y 'all what actually caused the thing to shut down the conversation. He you know, he was a Torah observer and After I finally got tired of his mouth just to be honest I got tired of the mouth as a hey, man, you know you absorb you're a Torah observant guy but I just want you to know man that you have a a Hat that's cotton and polyester.
I Said I thought could you have the nylon back and it had the cotton, you know the front. I said hey, man I thought you were a Torah observant guy. You are now in violation of the Mosaic law. Where are you going to make your sacrifice?
And it was over. It was over but that was it under the Mosaic law. Those were moral infractions if you ate shellfish that was a moral infraction all of those things or violation of God's Law because all of God's laws moral it's not separated.
I know why men separate it to try to distinguish between what was ceremony and what was civil but all God's laws moral. There's every bit of God's law is Revealing something about his character. Why do you not mix two fabrics two different types of fabrics together because God's pure.
Why don't you sew two types of seed into another field because God is pure. Therefore you're going to live a life of pure by not putting those things together and intermingling them. All of that law Needed to be fulfilled.
Running out of room. If man was not going to be accursed the law and the covenant that was given to Moses had to be kept. So we see how the Mosaic law was fulfilled in Christ now. We're going to see how the I mean, I'm sorry the Abrahamic covenant was filled in now.
We're gonna see how the Mosaic law was fulfilled in Christ. First and foremost the prophecies of the Old Testament. That led up to Christ actually coming onto the scene where we looked at a few of them last week in Isaiah.
Some in Micah, then there would be a couple in Hosea and if you Isaiah 714 is quoted right here in Matthew chapter 1 and It says behold the Virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son and they shall call his name Emmanuel now.
Just to let you know and if it's immediate context in Isaiah 7 verse 14 that had an immediate Context and if you've ever read that and you're going well, I know that points to Christ. But I'm not fully sure that they would have understood it that way.
We know this that when the Septuagint comes along those men understood that this had something more to do than the prophet Isaiah. But if you read that the prophet Isaiah goes into the prophetess in chapter 8.
She even has a child that child gives a name is given. Just I can't even remember how to pronounce the name if you want to look it up. You try to pronounce it gives us this crazy name and it is basically this was a representative of God being with us that was a reminder to the people that when Isaiah's wife the prophetess got pregnant and it was a sign.
It was a sign that this is that God was with them and he actually gave a time frame. This is going to happen before this King and this King and then before they die then this baby is going to be born that happened you can go back and read you read seven and eight of Isaiah and then you'll see the full.
The full reason why there was an immediate Fulfillment, but it didn't exhaust that fulfillment and how do we know it didn't exhaust that fulfillment because Matthew tells us right here. There was something more that that prophecy led to which now is Jesus was going to be.
The Mary was going to be impregnated by the Holy Spirit. He was going to be the God man and that God would be dwelling with them and that is Emmanuel. Also, it says where he would be born it says in Micah.
It says that they would be born Micah chapter 5 verse 2 and if you probably on the same page because mine's on the same page just look down and do Chapter 2 of Matthew verse 6. It says Oh you Bethlehem the land of Judah or by no means least among the leaders of Judah for out of you shall come forth a ruler Who will shepherd my people.
This was pointing to Christ. Christ was going to be born where in Bethlehem conceived of a virgin so. Then if you flip over probably just a page. You'll see where it talks about him being having to run from Herod killing the babies and it takes a passage from Hosea Says out of Egypt.
I called my son and if you look at Hosea 11 verse 1 You that in its immediate context was talking about who it was talking about when the children of Israel Were coming out of the land of Egypt that he was calling them out.
But then when you get to the New Testament, it goes, okay, that was not exhaustive that prophecy had not was not exhausted and he says when Jesus had to flee with his mother and his father to Egypt from Herod killing the babies in Bethlehem when he was then told to come back because Herod was dead that he was calling his son out of Egypt so we see the fulfillment of this messianic figure coming on the scene in chapters 1 2 of Matthew then you have the preaching of John the Baptist.
John the Baptist says hey, there's coming a person that I baptize you with water. But he will baptize you with fire and then as Jesus is coming He says behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world this man I'm not even worthy to undo his sandal and Jesus is now on the scene.
He is being baptized by John. Well, why did he need to be baptized? And comment Jesus didn't need to be saved. No, why did Jesus need to be baptized if you remember? He comes to John. What does John say?
Hey, man, I can't do this, right? He says I can't do this. I'm not worthy. Correct. And why would it need to be fulfilled. That's it. And because we often we go. Is it just because that's what God ordained or was there something about him being baptized?
By a Prophet that that was that that was needed to be accomplished. Every prophet priest or King had did what was anointed by what? Prophet. So Jesus comes to him and it was was John's Assessment of the situation correct.
Hey, man, I shouldn't do this from his perspective. Yeah, you should be doing this to me. No, no. No. But in order that things be done in an orderly fashion as they have been in the Mosaic law. He had to be anointed by a prophet who was the final prophet before?
Jesus comes on the scene. John the Baptist. So what does he do? He doesn't baptize him into repentance like he was baptizing the others. He baptizes him as being anointing him as the Messianic figure.
Then as he comes up out of the water, you know, what does God do to the God man? He anoints him with the Spirit and that goes back to Isaiah where it says he my anointed one on the spirit my spirit I will put on him and what descended on Jesus as a dove the Holy Spirit preparing him for his Messianic ministry.
Immediately what it happens in after he is baptized. He goes out into the wilderness. Where he is tempted and we know that that whole narrative. Then he comes back and he actually begins his Preaching ministry at that point that brings us to chapter 5 of Matthew.
The first recorded Sermon of Christ. And he gives the beatitudes the blessed are the blessed are this the blessed are all the way down wonderful as those are we could go through every one of those but I want to get to the point of Of What Jesus's purpose he says came he says in verse 17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I Did not come to abolish but to fulfill them now the word there the Greek word is pleroo and it means to to bring about to To bring to an end to Accomplish it per se. So he says hey look I've come to to to fulfill the law now.
All the law pointed and we could go through all the things that the law pointed to. So when Jesus says I have come into come to not do away with the law and the prophets I've come to fulfill it. That means he is now going to demonstrate that he is The righteous one everything that he's does will be righteous everything that along the prophets taught taught about and talked about he has now come a.
Think about you're talking about some 1400 years. That was along the prophets that talked about. That's a long time they'd say this wasn't long awaited for so if we remember we had 1189 chapters. Well now the old we have 929 chapters.
That we've been waiting for something to come and fulfill all of those prophecies. Well, how many ever there are I mean we can some say 300 some say explicitly 107. We don't need we don't have time to get into all those.
We just know this. From the time that Moses recorded Genesis remember he's when I wrote Genesis till the the Hebrew Bible the last one would have been Chronicles and in our English translation, it would be Malachi for my For my Italian brother Malachi.
They had waited from Genesis to Malachi and then you had 400 years of silence. So now when John the Baptist pops on the scene, this is a big deal. This is a big deal because before the Messiah would come there would be one crying in the wilderness saying made way to straight of the Lord and that was prophesied in Malachi.
So that brings us to where we're at and he says look I'm not doing away with basically I'm not doing away with Moses. I'm not doing away with what Moses taught. I'm not doing. I'm not giving a new law.
I'm giving you a better Understanding of what that law meant and as he began to teach through some of the law their minds were like wow. This is a deeper understanding when Jesus actually said you've heard it said do not commit adultery.
They were saying hey, dude, I didn't do that. I haven't cheated on my wife. Did you ever look at a woman with lust in your heart you've committed adultery already. He began to bring into the fact that this is more than externals.
This has to do with a heart issue so Jesus says I've come to not do away with the Moses or the prophets but to To accomplish or to fulfill what they said then he goes on in verse 18 says For truly I say to you until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke Shall come from the law until all is Accomplished that word.
There is a Greek word called genocide or its root word is Gonna get a no mine and what it means is to bring bring to an appointed end to bring to a point of a changed nature and A changed condition. That's huge.
Because now that Jesus is on the scene. He's saying like here's what the law was it was to point Forward to someone and something could the law provide righteousness. But was it righteous? It was it was righteous and holy and good.
Now all of the law the law was great. There was a problem is it was Deficient it was deficient in the fact that could never give life nor could it produce Righteousness all it could do is point you to something else that could produce that.
But what did the Pharisees do? Oh, well, we'll make our own set of guidelines to where we can keep the law and then Mm-hmm. We have achieved righteousness. That was never the point of the law. The law was always to point your inability to do what God requires of you and then by grace God put Concessions in the Mosaic law, but then they could go and get forgiveness whether it be the Day of Atonement Sacrifice burn offering all of those things necessary to placate God.
So now he's saying look There's going to be a change of nature. I Want when this is accomplished? It's gonna be a change of nature and there's going to not be changing. I'm gonna bring in that word. I just Means to bring in a new condition.
That means Jesus is not only going to when he fulfills it. He's going to bring in a Better covenant with better promises with a better priesthood. That's going to be the change and he again begins his his Messianic ministry pointing to how he is the one that has fulfilled those things and even Matthew if you flip on over to I think it's chapter 12.
Yeah chapter 12 where Jesus he heals a man a withered man hand and He does it on the Sabbath and they pitch a fit and It gets to where in verse 18 of a while back up in verse 15 of chapter 12 this is where Matthew points to Isaiah of Jesus as being a fulfillment of this he says but Jesus aware of This of what had taken place with the man in the wither man hand that he had healed them all And warned them not to tell who he was this was to fulfill that which was spoken by the prophet Isaiah.
Behold my servant whom I have chosen my beloved and whom I am well, please I will put my spirit upon him and he shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not quarrel nor cry out nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
A Battered reed he will not break off and a smoldering wick. He will not put out until he leaves justice to victory. That was he was seeing how Jesus Interacted with this man with the withered hand and how kind and how gentle he was.
That's why he he says a battered reed. He will not break off. You know think about a reed on the Nile or any of the the Sea of Galilee. They snap really easy even the reeds out here on the the sound when you're at Nassau Sound or Shad Creek.
Or all these sounds that are That are out in this area those reeds will snap off and it says he won't he won't even cause them to break and He says he won't put out a smoldering wick. He ever blew a candle out.
You know how easy it is to put out that little wick at them. It says he's going to be so gentle and so kind that he he won't even do that. But he's gonna do that until he leads justice to victory. So Matthew is pointing To Christ being that figure and that he is going to be the one to fulfill Everything that the law required.
What did the law require? It did require perfect obedience. Did it not? Yeah, perfect obedience. And if it didn't have perfect obedience Then a sacrifice had to be made. That sacrifice would either come from a goat turtle dove bullet however now.
Well Christ fulfills the law by doing what? How do you fulfill the law? Yeah, by obedience. By obeying. That was what we would call his his active obedience meaning he is actively doing that which the law required.
Fulfilling that which the law demanded which was to obey God perfectly and thought weren't indeed. I mean, I don't know about y 'all but sometimes it's good. It's easy to do the externals. But when you start dealing with the condition of your heart you start thinking about your motives.
I don't know about y 'all but I've done stuff in the past and go thought I did it in good motive and then to look Back a few weeks or year later and go. Well, that was pretty self-serving. You know to think that what I thought I was doing was in in good motive and it was not it was Self-seeking.
Well, Jesus never did anything to seek of himself. And if anybody had the right to bring attention to himself and to do something self-seeking it is the Son of God. But he came into the world Obeying and doing what the law required.
But then that obeying led to his passive obedience. This would be active and the passive is when he willingly Allowed God to pour out on him the justice that was due for those that did not obey the law.
The law required justice and when the call all required justice that justice was poured out on an animal and that animal was then to placate or to Pacify God until some appointed time whether it be the following year the day of atonement.
Romans picks up on that in Romans chapter 3. It says that it seemed as if God basically the paraphrase is this doesn't seem like I have a slap on sin in times past. And it is let's think about that. God always act in In the way that he should concerning sin.
Did I mean we use time and time again. When God drowned the whole earth. That seemed a little harsh people find that offensive, but that's what God should do every time. When as a touch to the ark and God struck him dead.
That seems a little his motives were good. I don't want the art to touch the dirt. But the problem is other forgot that the dirt's not sinful he is. Is the dirt a lawbreaker. No, also was and God struck him dead and we honor the law man.
That's one of the harder. We got him his motive was to keep the dwelling place of God from falling over. God said no one touch it. But the Levites and the Levites have a certain way there to touch it.
It's through the poles that go through the sockets. He gave specific ways and they didn't do it like he said so God struck him dead. Nate having a Bible. They did what God told them not to do and God fire came out from the tabernacle and consumed them.
So we know that God's just well Roman says hey it looked as if because God didn't act that way all the time. It looked like he was slack on sin. Well now that Christ has come he's going to demonstrate at this present time He will be the just and the justifier.
How does he do that? He's just. By pouring out the judgment on Christ and the justifier. By doing it on a perfect sacrifice. Then making salvation available for everybody that would believe. Remember Jesus Christ was raised for our justification.
Well, how do we get that justification because Jesus perfectly obeyed the law and Then he perfectly satisfied the justice of God making way for the salvation of everybody that will believe. That is how Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic law.
Now we could talk about each part of it. We could look at how he what represented him in the tabernacle. Whether it be the show bread or the menorah or the boy or the brazen altar or the labor? We could go through all of that, but we don't have time to do that.
Now. I've got 15 minutes left. Learning time go. We could do all of that and that is a good exercise to do at times to go man. How all of those implements how each sacrifice whether it was a burnt offering pointed to Christ or whether it was a wave.
Offering that poor that pointed to Christ or the the the the pouring out a drink. Offering to Christ or even you know. There was only only time the word free wills used in Scripture is when a person came and it was called a free will offering.
Were they voluntary remember that just means it wasn't can it wasn't compelled by the Mosaic law somebody you woke up this morning miss Jackie. You back in that time you would you know what I think I want to go sacrifice to the Lord today.
That would be a voluntary that not one that was compelled by Either the Mosaic law or from sin. I just you know what I want to worship the Lord. I'm gonna I want to give an offering today those men would women would do that.
So that's how Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic law. And now that that is fulfilled. Now his disciples are going to go out After the pit Pentecost comes and they are given the Holy Spirit. They are now Empowered by the Holy Spirit to now go out and proclaim.
Turn over to Acts chapter 2. I know we often think that It's at this point they were in the upper room and that they were scared here. You know, they were scared immediately After Christ was crucified, but you know remember they were in the room locked.
But you know after that after the time that he came in. Three days later in the midst of that room and then eight days later with Thomas. We never hear them being scared again. Never we assume that they were scared because the door says the door was locked but not here at Pentecost.
They were there waiting remember Jesus went out to the Mount of Olives. And he says you go back to you go back to Jerusalem and you wait. And you wait and you wait you gonna wait and I'll be there in ten days or whatever.
It was I'd be in ten days and then when it came they were waiting just as he told them to do waiting and praying and then when Pentecost came we have the the the Resting of the tongues of clove and fire and they were filled with the Spirit the baptism of the Spirit and then they were filled with boldness look I Know the Pentecostal movement says the only the the sure sign that you have been Baptized in the Spirit is that you speak in tongues.
I Can tell you you from Scripture everybody that was filled with the Spirit had boldness boldness now, is there a time in the Progression of the giving of the Spirit from Jerusalem to Judea. To Samaria and then to them that we see those accounts taking place that they spoke in unknown tongues.
Yes, but not everybody spoke in an unknown tongue that got the Holy Spirit. It was showing a demonstration that the Spirit of God was doing what he said it would do it was going to start in Judea. And it was going to go out into the uttermost parts and they spoke in tongues or in other Languages to show that the Spirit had come but every one of them that got the Spirit had boldness every one of them.
So here it is on the day of Pentecost Peter stands up and verse 14 it says and Peter taking his stand with the 11 raised his voice and declared to them men of Judea and All of you who live in Jerusalem.
Let this be known to you today and give heed to my words that these men are not drunk as you suppose for it is Only the third hour of the day that always tickles me. He never said they wouldn't be drunk.
He just like dude It's a little early. It's only nine. Give him till three o 'clock that might be different. He says here. It's only the third hour. But this is what was spoken through the Prophet Joel.
So here it is now Peter Apostolic authority given the power of the Spirit. He is now saying this is that What's happening now? This near demonstrative pronoun. This is the far demonstrative pronoun. It was that this is what Joel was talking about and he says here it shall be in those last days God says I will pour forth my spirit on all mankind and your daughters and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.
And your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams. Even on my bond slaves both men and women. I will pour I'm sorry Excuse me I will in those days pour forth of my spirit and they shall prophesy and I will grant them wonders in the sky above and signs and the earth below blood and fire and smoke and Vapor and the Sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come.
I'm gonna stop right there for just a second. So for our dispensational brothers, I got a huge problem they said that the thing that Joel's talking about this is really gonna happen that the the Sun was going to be dark and the moon was gonna turn into blood and all that well Peter said this was happening right then.
So this has to mean something other than literal. He is speaking in Apocalyptic language. Hey, this is an overthrowing and doesn't then would be my talk through Daniel and through revelation because this is spoke of in revelation, this is actually the overturning of the powers that be when Jesus comes into the world and he is Sacrificed to death burial and resurrection.
This is now ushered in Messiah's kingdom which was that little stone that was cut without hands with Daniel that came rolling down that and it Shattered the world's system is now going to take over the whole this is the beginning of it the power struggles that are about to be is They can't contain The person and work of Jesus Christ and he says in verse 21 and it shall be that everyone who calls upon the name of The Lord will be saved.
That is awesome. It says a minute of Israel listen to the words. I'm saying Here it is. He says Jesus The Nazarene a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs. Which God performed through him in your midst just as you yourselves know.
Hey, he's telling those people you knew what he did. It's like it's not like they're going. Hey you heard about this. He said you basically you saw with your own eyes him heal the sick raise the dead.
We know that they saw Lazarus because who wanted to kill both Jesus and Lazarus. The yeah, the the Pharisees matter of fact, they were trying to figure out. Hey, if we can kill Lazarus and Jesus will squash this whole movement.
Yeah, they're seeing their. They're basically saying I'm not going to believe my truthful eyes. My eyes are telling me even even echoes back to Nicodemus who I don't believe was a believer at the time when he goes to Jesus at night.
I don't believe he came under the shroud of darkness because of this Pharisee. I think he came at night because that's the only time he could catch Jesus by himself. He's the most important person in all of Judea if he's going to catch him.
It's not gonna be in the middle of the day. And he says hey, we know the things that you do you have to become from God. So they knew and if he was speaking as a representative of the Sanhedrin and the Pharisees.
You think he he was speaking for them as a whole. Of course. They knew who Jesus was. They knew that what he was doing only God they get. God could be doing it through him. It says in verse 23 this man delivered over to the predetermined plan of foreknowledge of God.
You nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put him to death but God Raised him up again putting an end to the agony of death. Since it was impossible for him to be held in its power and then he says alright.
So he says here's a fulfillment of what Joel talked about member. Jesus isn't going coming to do away With the law of Moses. He was there to fill it. He said I'm not doing away with the prophets. I'm going to accomplish what the prophets Had prophesied and here it is again.
He said he Peter said here's how Jesus fulfilled that The Prophet Joel and here's how he's gonna say he fulfilled the Prophet David. He said in verse 25 I saw the Lord always in my presence for he is at my right hand.
So that I will not be shaken therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exalted. Moreover, my flesh also will live in hope because you will not abandon my soul to Hades for or or Allow your Holy One to undergo decay.
You have made known to me the ways of life. And you will make me full of gladness and with your presence and he says he's on now gives interpretation. Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he is both dead and was buried and his tomb is with Us today.
He's basically saying look we all know where David's burial site is. We want to go over there. We could probably look at his his rotted flesh. It's turned to dust and we could see his bones in there and he says this in verse 30 and so because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seek one on his Descendants one of his descendants on his throne.
He looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ that he was Neither abandoned to Hades nor would his flesh suffer decay. Here it is Peter's use two examples. One of the prophet Joel and one of David the prophet and he says Jesus Christ has fulfilled that he is ushered In a new and better way now We're running out of time.
Let me fast-forward. To Hebrews. Remember that word accomplished was to bring in a new nature a new change it was to bring in Something new and better and that's what Hebrews talks about. Hebrews chapter 1 says God after he spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions in many ways.
But in these last days he has spoken to us in his son whom he appointed heir of all things. Through whom also he made the world and he is the radiance of his glory the exact Representation of his nature and he upholds all things with the power of the word.
Of his time sign upholds all things by the power of his word. And when he had made purification of sin He sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high. Having become as much better than the angels as he has inherited a more excellent name than day and then he goes on to give a a Melody of passages put together from the Psalms.
He does Psalm 2 verses 5 through Yep, verse 5 through 6 and then 7 he goes 1 of Psalm 104 and then 8 he goes to Psalm 45 and then Chapter 1 verse 10. He goes to Psalm 102 and then when you get to Verse 13 he gets to the most quoted Psalm and all of the New Testament.
Which I believe is God's favorite Psalm. It's Psalm 110. Because it is the most quoted it's quoted. I think I counted 23 times. I think in the King James verse somebody don't hold me quite to that I think it's in 23 times and then I think it was 27 times in the other Translations that's how many times it's quoted in the New Testament.
And He says here in verse 13, but to which of the angels this is one of the passages I go to when you get the the Aryans knock on the door, which they don't do that since kovat anymore. But you get the Jehovah's Witness go through your neighborhood.
They would not this is the passage I go to because you know, they believe that Jesus was an angel that basically became deified. So well, which of the angels did he ever say this to? Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
So here it is. Hebrews is telling us what all of this 929 chapters of the Old Testament. Pointed to the 39 books of the Old Testament the 24 books of the Hebrew Tanakh. It's pointed all to cry hate and those and in this time frame.
It says that that stuff came through in fragments and pieces over a course of 1 ,400 years it was not complete. It did not come. And it didn't come. Consecutive in pieces they were trying to piece it all together.
But now that Jesus has come that final revelation is here. Everything that that had pointed from Abraham to the fulfillment from the seed to the land had come in Christ. Everything that comes through the Melchizedek Priesthood is going to be fulfilled in Christ everything that was promised Through the Arianic and Levitical priesthood was fulfilled in Christ.
Jesus Christ fulfills those things and now makes it a new and better way through his blood. What remember when? The the high priest before he could offer up a sins for the people. What would he have to do for himself?
Yeah. For his family, yep stripped down and he'd get to take his fancy stuff off and he'd be right down in his regular skeebies his linen average Joe blow. Get rid of his his fancy attire. You know that he fought with all the jewels on it the miter with all the stuff on it.
He's just an irregular old clean linen washes himself offers up for his family. Then he offers ones up for himself and then he would go in and he would offer up for the sins of the people. Those sins that had been committed in ignorance and he would do that one time a year.
Well, what does Jesus do? He goes into the Holy of Holies which is in heaven and offers up his blood in the veil of his own flesh now by doing so that inaugurated the New and better covenant the covenant now is no longer about Moses.
It says that that law is obsolete. Is there any Any part of the Mosaic law that needs to be held today? That's a tricky question. Be careful how you answer it. Yes negative. There's a good no bed. It's No longer to be held as a covenant as a covenant if Jesus Christ did not fulfill the Mosaic law to its to its teeth.
It's not obsolete. We're still waiting for something else. Uh-uh part of me wants to draw a Venn diagram because You know every analogy falls apart. Hang it an hour and a half. Bill maybe this is what you're thinking because I Do believe there is some overlap.
I do. I think everybody in here will agree. There's some overlap. Here's the Mosaic law. Here's the law of Christ. Are there parts of this law that are fulfilled? Okay. That we then see in the law of Christ.
Certainly how about do not steal? How about do not commit adultery? How about do not lie? Do not covet. And I would say this is where the overlap is, but it is no longer a covenant. It's fulfilled. It's no longer binding that better.
It's no longer binding. What law we bound under now Law of Christ, it's obsolete. It doesn't mean it's useless it doesn't mean that it's doesn't have any relevance. Yeah. Yeah, but there's nothing binding in the Mosaic law it's been fulfilled in Christ every bit of it.
Now we're not saying there's not principles that you look at and say hey. Here are some principles in which we then do general equity. Okay. But there are clear explicit things like we just said that were in the Mosaic law.
That didn't carry over to the law of Christ like do not commit adultery do not lie. Do not steal. Do I have any other gods before me? Yeah all of those, but it's Mosaic law has been fulfilled. It's no longer a covenant to be observed.
It is a covenant that we can look back and go. Okay. How is it? What relevance is there today by looking at? Principle how that law we can see case law and then. Well, maybe easiest one to do is the paraffin wall.
Okay, nobody here Parties on their roof. Nobody here's got a roof that we can party do we'll come over. Yeah, well, what was the reason for putting the paraffin wall up because that's where people congregated in Middle Eastern time.
That's where they partied at that's where they gathered and you put that paraffin wall there so that somebody wouldn't fall off. Okay. Well, we don't do that anymore. But can we look at the Mosaic law and say well, what's that principle?
Well that principle would be this. Hey, I busted up the sidewalk in front of my house. I got got people coming over today. I probably should put some cones or something around the hole there where it's missing so that nobody falls in it both of them dictate.
What about the heart loving your neighbor? Loving your neighbor if you love your neighbor, you're gonna protect your neighbor. Why they build the paraffin wall around the house because they love their neighbor.
They love their neighbor. Why am I gonna put something around where the sidewalk got busted up because I love my neighbor. That's but it's no longer a covenant to be Held to it's been fulfilled in Christ now the law of Christ.
How is the law of Christ fulfilled? Law of Christ is fulfilled and loving your neighbor. Love God. Love your neighbor. Jesus said it himself. What they tried to trap him and we'll close they tried to trap him and said what I'm almost it good.
Yeah, and he didn't say he didn't throw out one of the Mosaic 613 command of prohibition did he summed it up? Love God. Love your neighbor and doing that you fulfill the law of love. That's what Paul said.
Andy you'll close us.
I'll save you. Our Redeemer the author and finisher of our faith fulfilled all that was needed for our salvation that we are no longer bound by those things that Christ fulfilled but that we now have freedom to walk in newness of life.
We thank you Lord that he so loved us that he gave himself for us. Pray Lord as we study a word and you bless us. Open our hearts open our minds help us to see Lord. You are the wise. God Has established all these things and brought them to pass through the working of Christ.
Keep us safe until we meet again. Yeah.
