All right, this won't take very long, we're in Luke 22 verse 66, and as soon as it was day, now these evil men had been plotting this by themselves all night. As soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together and led him into their council saying, you know, I was thinking as I was studying this, they're trying to prove that this man, Jesus, is not the Christ.
They're trying to prove him a false Christ. Two things, there had been people before this that claimed to be the Messiah. There had been people afterwards that claimed to be the Messiah. Why weren't they around when the Messiah was here?
But we don't hear anything of them. The other thing, why are they not trying to prove that he is the Messiah instead of that he isn't the Messiah? So they're working the people. They've made up their mind and they're laying everything out.
I'm sure this is the way they thought, but it's all playing into the hands of the devil. And they wanted to know, art thou the Christ? Tell us. And he said unto them, if I tell you, you will not believe.
Why wouldn't they believe, David? They couldn't believe. And if I also ask you, you will not answer me, nor yet let me go. Hereafter shall the Son of Man sit on the right hand of the power of God. Now what he's saying is true.
They are going to see this. I think it's rather interesting when we get into his coming before Pilate, some things that they did and did not do, but we'll save that. Christ says, you won't believe me if I tell you, and if I ask you, you will not let me answer me, nor let me go, but someday, hereafter, you will see the Son of Man on the right hand of the power of God, the Son of Man.
What does that prove, Russell? And it is in his humanity that he will rule. So it's in the humanity that the people will respond. Well, this ticked them off. This is what they were waiting for, they claimed.
Then said they, art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, you say that I am. Now in this portion of the scripture, any place, does he say he is the Son of God? You say that I am. And they said, what need we of further witnesses?
So they had all of the witnesses lined up. They'd used some of them to swear falsely that he was doing this and doing that. For we ourselves have heard of his own mouth. They stretched the point. They heard something that wasn't there, but to them it was there.
It's strange that we believe so slowly, and we think we believe when we don't. That's why our salvation is not left up to you and I. It is of God. Russell, dismisses please.
