Hello, welcome back to Daily Bites of God's Word. This is Andy Cain, and it is a joy to be back with you once again.
Today we're looking at Psalm 119, verse 62. At midnight I shall rise, rise up to give thanks to you because of your righteous judgments.
Have you ever been woken up at midnight before? And there's a lot of bad things that wake you up at midnight, but have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and had something about the
Word of God on your mind, or had some other person on your mind, or some prayer on your mind, or whatever it was? I've done this a lot where I'm chewing on a sermon or thinking about something
I'm going to teach, or something I'm studying, and sometimes your mind gets really active at night and it works through things.
That's why we have the phrase, I'm going to sleep on it, because there's something about when you're resting at night and your brain just sort of relaxes and thinks through things.
But the idea here too is, just like in verse 55, when he says, I remember in the night your name, here he's saying, at midnight
I shall rise to give thanks to you. He's taking all the restrictions off things as well. He's saying it doesn't matter if it's daytime, nighttime, morning, evening, it really doesn't matter.
I can rise, I can show up, I can be present in my thanksgiving, present in my praise of you, giving thanks to you because of your righteous judgments.
I'm thankful for you, Father. I'm thankful for God. I'm thankful for Jesus Christ. I'm thankful for His Word, His righteous judgments.
God is the righteous judge, and He can only judge rightly. We need to be thankful for that.
It's a blessed nation that has the grace of God on it. You can see judgment on a nation when it's not following God, and we need to be thankful for the judgments on our sin when they come and the consequences we face.
And so we need to be thankful for the righteous judgments of God and rise and be present in that thanksgiving.
