Let's turn please to the book of Isaiah in chapter 1. Isaiah in chapter 1. We'll read together at verse 4. God is speaking through the prophet to the people in His day. And the Word of God is pertinent for you and I tonight.
So as we read the Scriptures tonight, I want you to think that God is speaking directly to you. Because He is. That's the validity and that's the living Word of God. That when you read the Word of God, when the Word of God is read to you, God is seeking to speak directly to you.
Even though it might be a portion from the Old Testament or from the New Testament, God uses His Word to speak to us. Verse 4 says this. A sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corruptors, they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger.
They are gone away backward. Verse 18, Come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
I'd like to go to chapter 45, please. Chapter 45. We're going to read at verse 22. We read here at verse 22, Look unto Me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is none else.
One more in the book of Matthew in chapter 11. A well-known verse we just sung about rest in our final hymn. Verse number 28. Matthew 11 verse 28. The Lord Jesus says, now He's speaking to you tonight, Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
And the Lord will bless to us the reading of His precious Word. I will take these Scriptures tonight in the order in which we read them. And just very simply, I want to look at God in Isaiah 1 who has something to say.
God has something to say. He had something to say to the nation through the prophet. And what He is going to say to those dear people in that day, He is going to say to us tonight. For really, we are no different when we look at the word, Come now, let us reason together, saith the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
So God has something to say. When we come to chapter 45, He says, look unto Me and be ye saved. God has someone to save. Someone to save. He wants to save in this room tonight. Someone in this audience needs to be saved.
And that's someone God wants to save. And we come to Matthew 11 and there, He says, come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. He has something to give. Something to give.
So just very simply, at the end of a tiring day of the conference. Isaiah 1. God says, come. Come. We learn a lot about the character of God in this little verse. The reality that God is reaching out and God is speaking to those that have sinned against Him is marvelous.
It reveals to us His desire to communicate. The fact that God is indeed reasonable. That God cares. You see, when Adam sinned in the garden, if God would have never reached out to Adam, there would have been no conversation.
Adam would still be in hiding. Adam was the one who was running from God. Adam was the one who was hiding from God. But God reached out to Adam in the garden. And He says, Adam, where art thou? Why? Because he cared.
He cared. And when God speaks to us as sinners tonight, as enemies of God, understand this, that God is speaking to you tonight because He cares. He cares. And that's even greater than care, isn't it?
Because He loves. Because He loves. So God loves. And God is reasonable. God is patient. And we're going to look here that God cleanses. God cleanses. So, God says, come now, let us reason together. If you're going to reason with someone, that means you want to discuss something.
It is a conversation that God is wanting to hold with sinners tonight. Now remember, if God doesn't start the conversation, there's no conversation to be had. But He says very simply this, He says, come now and let us reason together.
So the invitation is to come. God says, I've got something I want to tell you. We're going to reason together. So He's going to come, and when God comes to reason, He brings the facts. God isn't one who goes on imaginary things.
There's not an imaginary problem when God says, come now and let us reason together. So He says, come. And this is what He has to say. He says, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Now don't imagine God's speaking to you this tonight. God is speaking this to you tonight. He says, come now. Let us reason together, saith the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
How would you respond to that? How would you respond to that question really, that command from God? Come now, let us reason together. God has initiated the conversation tonight. How are you going to respond?
It is that personal. You see, when we read our Bible, we always look for someone else. We say, oh, that would be good for that person. Or that would be good for those people. Oh, it's a sinful nation.
It's Israel. No, no, God is speaking tonight. And God is speaking to you. Come now, let us reason together, saith the Lord. What's your response? Some of you here. Maybe some of you have heard the Gospel the past four out of five weeks.
You'll say, well, I really don't think my sin is that bad. How would that be a response for God? I'm really not in need of this, God. I really don't want to talk to You. I don't want to listen to what You have to say.
Because this is what's taking place even in this room tonight. When God says, come, let us reason, people are saying in their seat tonight, I'm not interested in what You have to say. That's a reality that's taking place tonight.
God says, come, let us reason together. Souls and sinners, they say, no. I'm not interested in it. Why aren't you interested in it? The living and the true God, Your Creator, wants to speak with you tonight.
But people say no. They do. Most of the people say no. I'm not interested in what God has to say. You know, if you really understood that God was speaking to you tonight, and God was wanting to reason with you about your sin, and God told you in black and white just as clear as it is on the page on your lap, that your sins are as scarlet.
They're as scarlet. They are bright red in His sight. God is saying, I see your sin. He says it is scarlet to Me. It is bright. It is glaringly obvious. What are you going to say? Well, God, that's nice.
I'm not interested in what You have to say. Or maybe we can talk about this later, God, when I'm ready. I'm not interested in discussing my sin tonight. I'm not interested in understanding from the Word of God and from God Himself that my sin is the problem.
Or maybe that person over there, Lord, they need to talk to You, but not me. I'll tell you this, friend, when the Spirit of God speaks and you know it, your only reply... I shouldn't say only because we could word it more than one way.
But if you realize God was speaking to you tonight about your sin, you know what would come from your lips? The same as in Luke 18 where that dear publican was there. And he said, God, be merciful to me, the sinner.
Dear friend, have you ever cried out for mercy because of your sin? God sees it. It's bringing judgment. Have you ever cried out for mercy? Have you ever repented of your sin? Someone else might cry out with a similar working in their soul.
Maybe not God have mercy. Maybe it would be something like this. What must I do to be cleansed? Oh God, what must I do to be saved? Be saved. God says tonight, come now, not come tomorrow. Behold, now is the accepted time.
Behold, now is the day of salvation. And God is seeking to draw near to sinners that they would draw near unto Him and that they might understand tonight their sin is the problem. This would be wonderful words tonight if your sin was a problem.
Though they be red like crimson, they could be as white as snow. Oh, wouldn't that be a relief tonight? To know that all the dark red stains of sin and all the reality of your guilt and condemnation before God could be wiped out.
Sins could be cleansed. You see, this is God's desire. That's why He's wanting to speak to you tonight. That you could leave this room cleansed of your sin, knowing it is white as snow. He's calling. He's calling.
Remember, friend, God has something to say. Are you listening? Are you listening? If sin is the problem, and if sins are white as snow, and God Himself is the one who does the cleansing, what a marvelous deliverance.
What a marvelous salvation. Do you need it tonight? God has something to say to you. We come to chapter 45 and there we've got God has someone to save. I love this verse. God says, Look unto Me and be ye saved.
All the ends of the earth for I am God. There is none else. God is telling us not here when to come, come now, but He's telling us now where to look. Where to look. There are people and they're looking for salvation in all the wrong places.
There may be someone here tonight and you've been looking on the inside and you've been self-examining yourself and you've been wondering how you could believe and you've been wondering how you could ever be saved and trying to do this, trying to do that.
God's instructions to you tonight are not to look within. Don't examine yourself and your life and your works. God tells you where to look. To Him. To Him. He says, Look unto Me and be ye saved. Delivered.
Rescued. And He alone is the Savior. The Savior God. But then He says this, All the ends of the earth. All the ends of the earth. Every furthest place from the earth. What does that mean? There's no one part of the earth farther from God than the rest.
It just dawned on me the other day again. Maybe He's speaking to you tonight because you're really at the edge of earth and you're about to eternity. Oh, it could be a geographical thing to the very far tips of Africa, for the very jungles of Venezuela or Brazil or maybe the Siberian plateaus of Russia.
But understand tonight, you're just but one step from leaving this earth. And literally, you are at the edge of this world. You are only one heartbeat from eternity. A one step from death. And it adds a little emphasis in my mind that God is wanting those who are about to go out into eternity to look to Him for salvation.
Look unto Me and be saved. All the ends of the earth. You know what encompasses the whole earth? God wants to save the world. But there are few that will be saved. And so He's telling us where to look.
He's telling us that He wants to save. It is God's heart's desire to save. It's not an exaggeration to tell you tonight, friend, in your life, the greatest thing that God wants to do for you tonight is to save your soul from your sins and from a burning hell that you might be a worshiper for eternity.
Have you looked? Have you looked? Oh, you have not looked until you've come to the realization that you are guilty before God and that you need to be saved. That you need God to save you. You know, when you come to the book of Numbers in verse 21 and you've got the serpent of brass and you remember how Moses put upon a pole there and those that were in the camp, when they looked, they lived.
There was not one person that looked to that pole that didn't live. And there is not one person who looks to God who isn't saved. Friend, you look to God for salvation tonight. He's longing to save. He's done everything heavenly possible that you could be saved.
The Lord Jesus came into the world from the heights of glory to go to a cross of shame. To become a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. To bear our sin in His own body on the tree. What more could God do?
What more would you like God to do? Maybe a little more pointed way to put it is this. What could God do to make you happy? I'll tell you this, if the giving of His Son doesn't thrill your soul, that He come from the heights of glory to die on a felon's cross.
To bear the sin of the world. To satisfy God's righteous and holy claims against sin. That you could be saved. You're not listening to what God is saying. God is saying, look unto Me and be ye saved. All the ends of the earth, for I am God.
God, and there is none else. None else. No one else can save. No one else can do it. But He can do it. And He wants to do it. And He is willing and able to save. There is none else. Friend, you look to someone or something else other than Christ for salvation, it's not salvation at all.
There is only one Savior. Only one. So He has something to say. He has someone to save. Who is that someone in the audience here tonight? It's that personal. He has someone to save. Someone to save. Then we come to Matthew 11.
And something to give. These are precious words to saint and sinner alike. When the Lord Jesus says, come unto Me. Do you not find it intriguing to think that a holy and a righteous God would invite guilty sinners, defiled and unclean and undone, to reason?
Sin and holiness do not agree. They cannot cohabit together. And yet God in His grace is saying, come, let us reason. And God in His grace is saying, come. He's saying, look unto Me and be ye saved. And now the Lord Jesus Christ here is saying this, come unto Me, all ye that labor.
What is the labor from? Tonight in the Gospel, the labor comes from the burden of sin. The weight and the burden of sin. Sin a heavy thing to you? Or is it like the old King Ahab in a day gone by? He thought it just a light thing to walk in the sins of Jeroboam.
It's a light thing to sin. Friend, every sin is a direct offense and attack against God. God in His character. God in His righteousness. God in His authority. And yet Christ says, come. Come unto Me. Why to Him?
He is the only Savior. He is the only one who can give rest. And Christ says, come unto Me. All ye that labor. You know, in order for you to have rest, something has to be done with your weight and your load of sin.
It's striking really to think about it, as the Lord Jesus is promising rest to all who come. The reality is this, in order for you to have rest, He had to bear your load. He had to suffer for sin. He had to die in the stead of the sinner.
Christ had to die for the ungodly. He must needs go to the cross and be the once for all sacrifice for sin by the offering of Himself once without spot to God. And in order for Him to say, come and I will give you rest, He's guaranteeing that He's going to bear the burden of sin.
He hasn't died yet. He's on His way to the cross in due time. But He hasn't died yet, and yet He's willing to give rest to those in His day before He even died. That just causes me to worship every time I think about it.
That the only One who knew the severity of sin was willing to promise rest, was willing to tell a palsied man, thy sins are forgiven. How could He do it righteously? He must bear the penalty for those same sins.
What about the woman taking adultery? Neither do I condemn thee. Go and sin no more. He was willing and able out of love for those dear souls to suffer for their sin in His own body on the tree. And I know tonight He died for my sin.
And I know tonight the rest that Christ can give. And I know the heart of God tonight as He's longing to touch you in the meeting tonight, that you might be real about your sin tonight like it's never been real before.
And that you might look to Him for salvation out of a great realization of your need of a Savior. And that you might come to Christ tonight as He says, come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Rest is a tremendous thing. It's something to give to those that are heavy laden. You notice that's the qualifier. Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden. You see, the idea of being a laborer tells me this, that there is a work that is being done as far as the weight of sin to carry.
And the longer, friend, you go in your sin, the greater that weight is. Remember Psalm 107? He brought down their heart with labor. Why? That they might call unto the Lord for salvation. Tonight, He is seeking to speak to you.
Are you listening? He has something to say. He has someone to save. And He has something to give. For who? For the guilty sinner. For the guilty sinner. Trust Him tonight. And know the rest that comes from Christ and His finished work.
