I'm going to lose weight this year. I'm going to get in shape. I'm going to handle my finances much better. Lots of things people do as a New Year's resolution. This is the time of year that gym memberships skyrocket.

By February, those gyms will be empty again. But the thing is, is are New Year's resolutions a bad thing? Actually, no. It's good to take stock in your life. Do some self-evaluation. Scripture encourages us to do that.

And take a look and see what things you should be working on. The real thing is, set a New Year's resolution, but don't just quit. Make one that's reasonable. Make one that's realistic. Make one that you can keep.

Do goals when you have your resolution. Don't just make some broad resolution. I'm going to get in shape. No. Do a resolution that has some goals that can be measured. Like, I'm going to go to the gym three times a week.

I'm going to start walking twice a week. Something that you can measure. Maybe it's more than just that. Maybe it's, I'm going to walk for at least 30 minutes twice a week. The more specific you can get in your resolution with something that can be measured, the more likely you are to keep that resolution.
