I'd like to give my testimony for a number of reasons, one is to show that a little Sunday school boy can get saved. I was 10 years old, I was conscious of my need and yet in one sense I thought I was okay.
But the verse that's always been with me and our brother Robert Orr quoted part of it in prayer, John 3 .36, he that hath the Son hath everlasting life. He that hath not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
And I as a young boy brought up in a Christian home, going to meetings, hearing the gospel, I thought I was good, better than the other boys in my class at school. But remember dad said to me one day, he was giving out tracks across from the gospel hall, I would be about seven or eight I think, maybe nine, just a little boy, I'd be eight.
And I says, dad, I want to go and get the people across the road. Now in those days, you saw one car in about ten minutes, you understand, no one had a car. He said, no, he said, if you go across the road and a car comes and hits you, I'll never see you again.
And that stayed with me. The other thing our brother Larry was telling us about the coming of the Lord, you know this, when I was a child, people longed and lived for and spoke about the Lord coming again.
They looked for it. Do you know why we don't do that today? Because my suit costs more than $50. My house is worth more than $200 ,000. I drive a good car. I've got a good pension. We're not living in poverty.
We're not living in misery. The only thing wrong with me is my body and that's going to be changed one day. Material things have ruined us with regard to looking for the Lord coming. Is that right? You disagree with me?
Then you're looking for the Lord coming. And we were brought up with that and we went to the barber shop one day. I was a little boy and it was crowded. You know, I ran home after sitting for about 15 minutes just to make sure mom was still there.
I had this fear in my soul that the Lord had come. And one day in a gospel mission, my sister and I, we never talked about it. We, that night, trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior. Now that would be in 1952.
Some of you weren't even born then. And the Lord is, I haven't been faithful like all the time. That's for sure. He has been, the Lord has never failed. That's the one thing I want to tell. The other thing is this.
We've just finished a series of two weeks, supposed to be two weeks. Brother Larry, you wouldn't have taken them. I know you wouldn't. But brother Roland Pickering very graciously came over and it was for two weeks, but we'd left the third week open.
Would that be okay? He's nodding, good. We left the third week open. So there weren't a lot of people coming out. There were some. And my son, I have three boys, two of them saved and one of them unsaved.
And he's in his late thirties. He runs a very successful electrical construction business. And I'd asked them three times to come. He'd never been in a hall for years and years and years. Too busy. And he is, he gets home about nine o 'clock at night, six days a week.
Terrible, terrible life to live. Three times he promised to come. Now here's the thing. He never says no. Michael, could you come to meeting tonight? Well, we'll try. I'll just see what happens. I'll try and make it.
So you're at the door. Lord, bring them along. Doesn't come. So Thursday night, I said to the brethren, you know, the meeting's Tuesday. Roland's here. He can come in from Rose Isle Conference on Sunday night and we can have a meeting Monday night and Tuesday and they'll be all right.
Well, Michael, are you coming Sunday night? Oh, I'll try. Didn't come. Monday night. Didn't come. Tuesday. Here it goes. Three times it promised and hadn't came. Daddy says, we are coming. The three of us, Michael, Gloria, and Katrina.
They came. First time they stepped inside the gospel hall. Not his daughter. She's been there. First time they've stepped in the gospel hall for a long time. They didn't get saved. You know what's important to me?
They sat under the sound of the gospel and Roland Pickering preaches a sound gospel. So, add on to your prayer list. Michael, Gloria, and Katrina.
