Deuteronomy 6, verse 4. It says, Hero Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. First off, this is very essential to both Judaism and Christianity, because what you see here is the very clear teaching.

There is one God. Not many gods. Now this is something many people think is a misnomer, when they try to say that Christianity believes in three gods. This is not true. People will try to say, see, here you have the Lord is one, meaning there's only one person.

That's not needed to be. There is only one God. The Lord our God, the Lord is one. This is one of the clearest teachings of what's called monotheism. Mono meaning one, theism meaning God, or the belief in God.

So it's belief in one God. Now this is in stark contrast to what was being believed at the time that this was written by Moses, coming out of Egypt, in a system where all the other religions in the world at the time in this area all believed in multiple gods.

So this claim was in stark contrast to everything else. And this is where you end up seeing Judaism and then Christianity, and even now Islam would all go back to this one claim, there is only one God.

Now those other two will try to say Christianity believes in three gods. That's not a proper view of the Trinity. But this is essential to the three religions, is that there is a monotheistic God.
