With its base also of bronze for washing you shall put it between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar and you shall put water in it and Aaron and his son shall wash their hands and their feet in water from it when they go into the tabernacle of meeting or when they near the altar

When they come near the altar To minister to burn an offering made by fire to the

We must bathe without the simple answer of smelling awful

But there's a purpose we all bathe this morning Simple answer would be to is to wash to be clean from our dirtiness from dirt and smell

Pollution that soils our garments and yet the people of Exodus here cleanliness meant more than just washing with water even though water was so important as being the

The h2o the element in which they used The washing was primarily the purpose the primary purpose to be clean

It was a ceremonial cleaning and there was a this had to be done for the priest the instructions that was given

Now in a matter of fact the washing of the hands and the feet were mandatory

Before engaging in priestly duties and the seriousness of being ceremonially purified is seen in the warning of death in this washing

That was would be that would be neglected that death would come about very serious

Nothing casual here nothing casual Nothing casual was being done in the sanctuary.

It was all very serious Because God is a holy God and when we come before him in worship, we are to Come before him consecrated separated to be washed

Even everything that was done in the sanctuary or out in the courtyard was very serious washing with the bronze labor and basin meant to be a picture of our spiritual readiness and Purity Before God Jesus even said blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see

First of all, what do we see here? There's it's about being clean, but it's about also a holy purpose in a holy calling

At level one, we know that the Israelites were being made clean to commune with God There's a purity in that the washing

The Lord himself gives us the instructions Here in the text before us in Exodus chapter 30 verse 17 to 21 and they are detailed

Hebrews speaks of the book of Hebrews of Jesus Christ It could be also used as picturing

God's way of salvation and the subsequent life and ministry of the believer

Makes me think of Revelation chapter 1 verse 5 and 6, which is a great verse to start off with here in the introduction the

Apostle John wrote this down by the Spirit when he was in the Spirit in the Lord's day and he said this and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness the firstborn from the dead and The ruler over kings of the earth to him who loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood has made us kings and priests to his

That's how we are made kings and priests to God is God and father because Christ has washed us in his precious blood

But as I mentioned in Revelation Jesus has made us kings and priests unto him now it was basically in that time period speaking of those who

I know there's a capital M and there's a small M but in that sense Jesus Christ has made us ministers priest unto him

Verse 17 and 18 then the Lord spoke to Moses saying you shall also Make a labor or basin

Basin of bronze For washing you shall put it

Between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar and you shall put water in it. God himself directs

Moses to instruct Israel about the bronze labor The bronze so first of all, we have the bronze basin the labor was made of bronze and They made that from the brass the bronze from the women that Actually would look at themselves as a mirror

Doesn't scripture say that God's Word is like a mirror This is the way we can examine ourselves.

We look into God's Word and God's Word reads us We must examine ourselves to see whether we're in the faith

We must examine because we cannot detect the sin and the dirt on ourselves Like we should the

Word of God does through the Spirit So first of all, you have the bronze

Basin that was made of bronze second. You could it could hold water.

It was specifically for water and washing Third it is placed in the middle of the outer court between the bronze altar and the tent of the meeting

Fourth its water is to be used by the priest For the washing of their hands and feet while they serve in the tabernacle

So God specifically laid down these instructions To Moses and Moses passes it on How they are to approach

God and what they are instructed to do instruction and righteousness So we don't know whether the labor the basin was tall or short we don't know exactly the height of it whether it had any handles or How much water it held we don't have those details there, but we do know this that it was placed

It was made of bronze it was placed on the bronze stand Which means that it was not

Placed on the floor because it was separate from that It was not to be soiled from that so the base in the labor and use does not come into contact with the ground and only the object that it comes into cut the only object it comes in contact with is

The ground is also Bronze, so basically the labor itself does not touch the ground

When you walked into the tabernacle you would see the altar then the priest ministering at the bronze basin

Then the holy place God also tells us why it's placed there verse 19 and 20 he tells us the reason there for Aaron and his sons

Specifically so the first stop of the priestly duty must be to The labor the basin and The reason for this great need is for priestly clean cleansing there had to be cleansing and all service in the tabernacle whether in the holy place whether in the holy of holies or At the brazen altar was required the one serving

Was absolutely mandatory to wash at the labor No questions about it

So we can safely say that it was Probably used more frequently.

I Would think than any other article or furniture in that tabernacle. It was used quite often there was a lot of washing going on and They had to be cleansed

Now this cleansing even though it's ceremonial outward Applies something of great depth spiritually speaking

This cleansing applies primarily to the child of God as I said earlier the believer in Christ For only the priests could serve at the labor

Beyond the brazen altar that application of the teaching of the tabernacle was directly to the sons of the

Living God J. Bernard McGee and his commentary said this

I know he's fundamental. I know he's Armenian but I tell you

J. Bernard McGee was a great Bible teacher and he said something very good here. Listen very closely He said this there is a twofold application of the meaning of the labor in the ministry and cleansing

This being an earthly and a heavenly application He goes on to say it applies first of all

To Christ is present resurrection ministry He continues

Cleansing his own until he presents him faultless blameless before the presence of his glory his throne with the seeding joy

Spirit Reveals the pathway of light for God's children that they will keep them from defilement along the way that they will keep them from defilement along the way and it also reveals new avenues of service and The Holy Spirit confirms and makes real in the life of the ministry of the written

Word of God These are not separate operations, but one for the indwelling

Spirit does not direct apart from from or contrary to the word

This is the earthly application of the meaning of the labor in quote

So Trying to give application as I go about But we look at other word scriptures to help us here to throw light on what?

God is meaning here So the main function of the basin or the labor of bronze was for cleansing

Now if you look at Psalm 24 If you go with me to the book of Psalms as many many scriptures there

Go with me to Psalm 24 chapter 24. Look at verse 3 and 4

Psalm 24 verse 3 and 4 gives us light on this wonderful subject we have before us today

The it begins with the question in verse 3 who may ascend Until Unto the hill of the

Lord who may ascend unto The hill of the Lord or who may stand in his holy place

Who may ascend to God's hill? Who may who may stand in his holy place?

This great God who made the universe that said even the stars are not pure in his sight

To look upon him would mean death But see he begins with the question there.

The psalmist begins with the question. That's David and He gives the answer in verse 4. He gives us answer directly he who has clean hands and a pure heart

He shall receive blessings from the Lord and Righteousness notice that righteousness from the

God of his salvation Jesus Christ becomes our righteousness Since he is our sanctification our righteousness.

He is our all -in -all. So all that comes from Christ His person his works

Wonderful verse there beloved. That's what David is talking about is the basic integrity of inward motive and Outward manner first, it's inward then it's outward.

It's not the other way around as so many people have it. It's not Reformation first, but it's regeneration

Oh Lord That's how he could go before God. He must have a washing he knew this

Even before Christ came he knew the stand and go before God Almighty there needs to be purity and Doesn't that cry in your conscience and scream in your conscience

This is where we get it from right here folks for I Acknowledge my transgressions. He confessed his sin

God to love God for who he is and and go before him and where it's just not a duty but a delight to go into his presence and come before him and say

So Exodus 30 17 through 19 was all about washing for the work of God Proverbs picks up the idea of washing for cleanliness and takes it as a metaphor for moral and spiritual health listen to Proverbs 30 verse 12

There are those who are clean in their own eyes Wow How many people you know like that search your own heart ask

God to search your own heart this morning Are you clean in your own eyes, but are and then he says but are not washed of their filth

Self -righteous Pharisees that thought they knew everything about God and think they thought they had all the answers and all they knew all the doctrines and all this and all about outward appearance, but Jesus corrects them in chapter 15
