to our carols and lessons tonight. I hope you have grabbed a handout.
00:08
It'll help guide you through. We're going to hear a lot of special music, but we're also gonna be invited to participate and to sing along, and we're gonna hear several scripture readings tonight.
00:22
So I'm looking forward to our time together, and don't rush off after the service. At the very end of the service, we're going to get our candles, and we're going to form a circle around the room and light the candles and sing a couple more songs, and then we're gonna head back to the fellowship hall for some cookies and apple cider, and coffee.
00:44
So let's begin. Father, I thank you for the time you afforded us tonight. I pray that our worship and our praise and our celebration will be glorifying to you and edifying to one another.
00:56
Please bless those who are singing and reading the scriptures for us, and I pray that you would continue to instill in our hearts this season a great joy in our

We gather this evening to celebrate.
04:03
We celebrate the birth of a child who came to our world more than 2 ,000 years ago. We remember the fulfillment of prophecies made thousands of years before his birth.
04:16
We honor a plan for our redemption made by our great God before time began.
04:24
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
04:30
God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.
04:39
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.
04:49
And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. And we beheld
04:54
His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
05:14
As prophets came on the scene and moved by the Holy Spirit wrote about the promised
05:19
Messiah. Isaiah said he would be born of a virgin and would be called
05:26
Emmanuel, God with us. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light.
05:33
They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.

For 700 years God waited to fulfill the prophecy that had been delivered by Isaiah.
12:49
The wait was over. The time was just right. In a small, out of the way town in the region of Galilee, Nazareth, a young virgin girl named
13:02
Mary received a surprise visit from Gabriel, God's messenger.
13:09
And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee named
13:14
Nazareth to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David, and the virgin's name was
13:21
Mary. And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail thou that art highly favored.
13:27
The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
13:36
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name
13:46
Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest. And the
13:52
Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
14:02
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her,
14:10
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee.
14:16
Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
14:22
And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age.
14:28
And this is the sixth month with her who was once called a barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible.
14:37
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word.
14:45
And the angel departed from her. My spirit rejoices in God my

Savior. With kindness he has regarded me.
16:50
With tenderness he has exalted me.
17:54
At last the time had arrived.
18:36
Mary bore the Holy Child as the young couple traveled to Bethlehem.
18:43
Joseph accepted the responsibility of watching over his earthly footsteps. A feeding trough became his bed, and a host of angels sped from heaven to earth to announce the arrival of the newborn king.
18:57
And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
19:03
And this taxing was first made when Serenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, everyone, into his own city.
19:11
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called
19:18
Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
19:27
And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Human flesh wrapped around the eternal and the divine. Few saw it at the time, and those who did didn't understand who he was.
29:00
But looking back at it tonight, all this time later, it's impossible to think of it without awe and wonder at the miracle.
29:12
With the shepherds, let us go to Jesus and worship him. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night.
29:23
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid.
29:30
And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
29:38
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a
29:43
Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
29:53
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
30:03
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,
30:10
Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
30:16
And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
30:28
And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
30:36
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen as it was told unto them.
30:50

37:22
Savior's birth. In sin and error, still he appeared.
37:40
And the soul felt his worth. Rejoice, yes.
37:54
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
38:50
This is the Lord's birth.
39:52
Well, we've come to the part of the service where we'd like to invite you to circle about the whole auditorium here.
40:01
And we've got candles, and we will begin lighting our candles and sharing together in a few familiar stanzas of some
40:10
Christmas hymns. So if you will get up from your seats and head to the edges of the room.
40:16
We will form a circle and begin to light our candles. Don't be afraid to come to the front there at the back of the room.
46:35
Let me pray for us.
47:03
Father, I thank you for the time you've afforded us tonight. I thank you that we were able to sing your praises, to stir one another up, and to love and to good works and to hold fast the confession of our faith, building each other in the truth of Christ.
47:18
We thank you and we give you all the praise. Rejoice in Jesus Christ, our King, born for us, who died and was raised from the dead, and is even now ascended to your right hand.
47:29
It's him that we celebrate. To him be the glory. Amen. Let's go ahead and put out our candles.
