- This is a ministry of striving for eternity. Dealing with some passages that are often misunderstood, let's start with the widow's offering in Mark chapter 12.
- 01:24
- We end up seeing that the widow gives two mites, about a penny, and she gives it, it's the last, it's everything she has.
- 01:33
- And so many people that preach from Mark 12, 41, and following, they end up preaching about giving, about giving all that you have.
- 01:42
- Here, this widow is being praised for she gave all that she had. However, when you look at this within its context, what's the context?
- 01:50
- We get a different answer. The context that Jesus starts chapter 12 with, he is talking about the fact that he is going to take that which is given to the
- 01:58
- Jews and give it to another, because the Jews were not believing in God. They were rejecting him.
- 02:04
- They were willing to kill his son, and therefore, Jesus said that God is going to take the vineyard and give it to others, meaning the
- 02:13
- Gentiles. The Jews are very upset with that. Jesus starts, they start to challenge Jesus. Jesus then challenges them, and then we get this issue where he sees a woman giving all that she had.
- 02:24
- Why does he talk about this woman? Because the Jewish leaders had a responsibility to care for the widows.
- 02:32
- The fact that she had no money and she gave all that she had, where people wanna focus on the poor widow who is contributing, the real focus is that the
- 02:43
- Jewish leaders were failing and proving what Jesus said in the beginning of the chapter.
- 02:49
- So the context is really about the false religious system of Judaism. This podcast is part of the
