Steven Furtick vs The Bible

That I have spoken to you are spirit and life but there are some of you who do not believe for Jesus knew from the beginning. Here's this is important for Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe and who it was who would betray him.

So again in response to Stephen Furtick here Jesus knew exactly who was going to believe and who was not going to believe because it was pre-ordained from the foundation of the earth. Um so no one no one thwarted him no one suppressed his power in their unbelief.

And then lastly verse 65 and he said this is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the father. Amen. That's all.

I gotta say that demonstrates how clear scripture is. Right. The perspicuity of scriptures. It's clear. Not only does it we have that clear didactic teaching of only those who the father gives to me will come to me all that the father draws will come.

All those clear things those who have been granted to believe all that. But you also have prophecy of his death burial and resurrection. And this talk of eating of my flesh drinking of my blood the communion that we're sharing in that picture of scripture that absolute certainty that Christ would die on the sacrifice day of the Passover in our place for our sins that is further demonstration of God's sovereignty all all of scripture lends itself to the rest of scripture.

You need all of it. It's not just that right that there's this didactic teaching this you know direct teaching about God's sovereignty in saving people. But everything that Jesus is talking about here is sovereignty.

His crucifixion is sovereignty. It's God ordaining these things to come to pass. And if the almighty will of man could thwart God's purposes what if what if Pontius Pilate said no you can go free. Yeah is God's plans thwarted.

The lamb slain from the foundation of the earth is that is that thwarted. Right. So here you have Furtick who is who is not holding to the sovereignty of God as a reformed person would understand it. And because of that he can't be consistent.

If he believes that God knows the future then he has to believe in some sort of sovereignty. But he's not teaching it that way. He's not being consistent within his own system. Right. And as Dr. White says inconsistency is the sign of a failed argument.

So if God is sovereign which he has to as a I believe he's a still a southern baptist. Right within the southern Baptist convention he would have to uphold those things those are in the the baptist faith and message he would have to believe in some form of God knowing the future.

But his theology can't understand it can't comprehend it can't account for that stuff. You want to know what his view is. I'm so glad you brought this up. Because it's so important he says in the message at 40 minutes he says the lamb of God looked at me through time and said I'll die for him.

Right. So it's it's a classical. So you have the value you are worthy for me to.

Give my life. How sickening. Well and that that um misreading of the text is why John MacArthur said one word yeah. And that's why it's important. Because a part of the qualification isn't that you're just you.

You look at the first translation that you open up. Probably not a good one in Stephen Furtick's case I'm gonna guess NLT. Yeah he opened it up and he just read it and he was like and he there. Obviously we said he's a good orator.

He he can. Um he created a dynamic easy to listen to people were interacting with him. The the most important thing he didn't do though is actually uh glean what the passage meant for real. Not just not just examine it in order to make a good easy to listen to palatable sermon.

It was it was. He just read it and what it meant to him was how he.

Inserted it into his sermon and that's where we need to get to. And that's the most. That's the most charitable. Best case scenario worst case scenario. If we're if we're thinking about this this guy's not dumb.

Right. He's not a student very smart. He is very successful. He has a million dollar home you know very successful rich. He writes books that people buy all this stuff. He's not dumb. If we like I think he probably knows what he's doing.

Yeah he's capable of doing all this stuff.

Well at least as far as when he sees the very apparent contradiction of his reading of that text and his reading of a text the text that you just read like like he he would have to that he read anything else in the bible if he was going to claim that he didn't.

These guys have.

Literally said things like the easy way out is to exposit the scriptures go verse by verse that's the easy way out. So they look they look at what they're doing crafting these messages as the hard way because it probably does work but the problem is it's not what God has commanded us to do.
