The teaching of the Apostles must always be examined under a clear understanding of what an
Apostle is. So we think about Apostle, you think about sometimes you might drive down a road and see a sign that talks about it being the
Church of the Apostles. Or you might see a billboard that's advertising, come hear
Apostle so -and -so preach. Well, the fact of the matter is simply this, the word
Apostle has a specific meaning. And there's big A, Apostle, and then there's little a,
Apostle. In one generic sense, all of God's people are Apostles in the sense of being sent out on a mission.
I don't really like to define Apostle that way or use it that way because it confuses a lot of people.
In one way, you might say a missionary is an Apostle of Jesus in the technical sense.
But once again, I think that using the title for Apostle to talk about a missionary would be confusing to people.
So in the real sense, big A, Apostle is someone who was actually commissioned by Christ under the authority of Christ with the mission of Christ and the message of Christ.
