约翰福音15:18-16:15 你需要的是什么呢?
Dear brothers and sisters, good morning, and welcome to the May 28th Christmas Christmas Sermon of the Church of the Holy See. The theme of today's sermon is, What do you need? The sermon is recorded in John 15, chapter 18 to 16, chapter 15.
When the Apollo 13 spacecraft crashed on its way to the moon, the space scientists and astronauts in the ship were puzzled, and decided to give up the operation of the fuselage and instruments, so that the astronauts could safely return to Earth.
At that time, they had to decide which fuselage and instruments were absolutely necessary to maintain the operation, and which fuselage and instruments could be given up, but would not pose a threat to life.
In the end, the Apollo 13 spacecraft was able to safely return to Earth. What do you need? Money? Do you need a new job? Or a reduction in expenses? But sometimes we must have money. We can't be empty-handed, and we can't actually think that we don't need anything.
If we don't have money, we won't have a club here. We can't drive to worship. But, is money what you need most? If you are still single, do you think what you need now is a lifelong companion? This need has existed since the creation of the world.
You admit that you have this need. That is what you deserve. Sometimes you feel that this need is not true. But, ask yourself, is this your greatest need? If we say coldly and frankly that our bodies will eventually turn into soil, and we don't need to pay attention to our health, then we can say that we are self-deceiving, or that we have drowned ourselves.
Even if we have a greater need, that is to have hope, a healthy body, and eternal life. But this doesn't mean that we can have a healthy body and live in this world. Although this kind of life is short-lived in this world, we still have a lot of needs.
Many times, we think that these needs are necessary, but we don't need a big car, a big house, or even a luxurious restaurant. You may have to give up playing video games. If this need has replaced the things that you need and are more concerned about.
What do you need? Today's scripture has shown us our two great needs. The first need is understanding. The second need is encouragement. Let's look at these two needs. First, understanding. God said to us through the prophet Hosea, Our first great need is for God to explain to us the truth.
And not for us to pass the SAT exam, or to get knowledge from the newspapers or the internet. Here, Jesus explained to his disciples what they need to know. That is, the world must persecute the disciples of Jesus.
When we talk about persecution, it is reflected in the minds of those who are persecuted. They were imprisoned because of the persecution of Jesus Christ. Or they were shot and killed by other Catholics.
Or their possessions were confiscated. If you think that these are great needs, then you may think that the small setbacks you are facing now, such as being excluded from work, school, colleagues, friends, teachers, or being treated unfairly, being mocked, insulted, or hated, etc.
These are great needs, but they are also great mistakes. We need to know that any reason for the persecution of Jesus Christ, or any other reason for suffering, regardless of size or weight, is to deal with the reality of Jesus Christ.
They are not willing to wander, to seek sin, or even to escape from it. All of this is persecution. Persecution is not when a Christian is pushed into the pit of death, but when they no longer belong to the world.
Here, when Jesus Christ was caught, persecuted, and suffered in a short period of time, He prepared, or rather, He explained to the disciples, who lived in this world, the things that hated us. Jesus explained these three aspects to us, and prepared us.
The first aspect is the 15th chapter, 18 -25. The 18th chapter says, If the world hates you, pay attention to the two words,. These are conditional words, and not the hatred of all the world, but the grace of Jesus Christ.
Who are the people who hate Jesus Christ? Who are they? They are those who are hard-hearted, dark-hearted, and reject the grace of God. They are those who betray, who are rebellious.
They are controlled by Satan.
They hated me in the past,.
And now they hate you.
Believe, and follow the disciples of Jesus Christ. This society is full of rebellious people. They hate those who are full of joy, full of the grace of God. We must avoid them, because they hate Jesus, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords.
But, if you belong to this world, the world will love you. The 19th chapter says, You are a part of the world, one of their family members. They love you. But, Jesus said, you do not belong to them.
Why?
Because the Lord Jesus has chosen you. You are the grace of Jesus. Therefore, the world hates you. Jesus further explains why the world hates him and his disciples. First, this is the teaching of Jesus, the 22nd chapter.
Second, it is the divine act of empty money. He explains the sin of the world. It can be said that they are irrevocable sins. But, have they repented? Have they repented?
No.
They have heard, seen, yet they still hate Jesus and God. The 22nd chapter. The world has no reason to hate Jesus and God. Because the world is weak. The world is weak in nature. Jesus came to save the world.
But, they reject God's kingdom. They reject God's salvation. They are against God. They cannot reject their own sins. They are irrevocable. Jesus said, if this is because they have broken the law, they have no reason to hate me.
The 25th chapter. God has made a decision about the sins they have committed. He called their fall into sin. The small sins we have suffered today. The second reason is Jesus prepared them through this.
He prepared his disciples. The 15th chapter. The 26th and 27th chapters. He took the disciples from the Father. He took the Savior, the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit came to witness for Jesus.
It is the disciples, it is us. We must take the Holy Spirit to witness for Jesus. It means when Jesus ascended to heaven, the disciples must follow the great mission given to them by Jesus. They must witness for the Lord Jesus.
Because you have been with me from the beginning. Jesus said. The 15th and 27th chapters. The third reason is through this, to resist, to oppose, to oppose evil. This is recorded in the 16th chapter. The 1st to 4th chapters.
If we do not believe, or if we are surprised, or if the world hates us, we will retreat. We will lose hope. We will lose confidence.
We will lose hope.
We will even be sad. Here, the disciples thought they were the warriors of the uprising, the revolutionaries, the kings who used Jesus as their third king, the kings who revived Israel, such as King David, and the warriors under him.
But Jesus said to them, he will be betrayed, he will be beaten, he will suffer on the cross, and he will leave this world.
And the disciples,.
Because of Jesus, will be hated and persecuted by these people. Jesus explained to the disciples, he told them these things, so that they would not lose confidence.
Chapter 16, verse 1.
And these true disciples, were not others, but those who were highly esteemed, such as the Pharisees, the Jews, and the Lawmakers, and so on.
The time had come.
These people drove away the disciples of Jesus, and the Christians who believed in Jesus. Jesus said, these people who killed you, they thought they were serving God.
They did this,.
Because they did not know God, nor did they know me. Jesus said, this is recorded in chapter 16, verses 2 -3. Here, Jesus showed his disciples that he loved them. He told them these things, and explained to them the end of the world, so that they would not lose confidence,.
And they would not fall.
Jesus explained, the first warning,.
And the second warning,.
When Jesus and his disciples.
Walked towards the Mount of Olives, Jesus explained to them, the disciples had no reason not to fear the path ahead. They may have felt that they needed Jesus personally.
By their side.
But,.
In chapter 16, verse 6, Jesus knew what they were thinking, because he had told the disciples.
These things.
Their hearts were filled with sadness. We are not like that. What the disciples need now is encouragement and encouragement. We also need, Jesus is here, to explain to us, why we need the Holy Spirit.
First, the Holy Spirit is the Protector.
Second,.
The Holy Spirit is the Judge. Third, the Holy Spirit is the Completer. Our first need is the Holy Spirit, our Protector.
Before this,.
Jesus did not tell the disciples what they would face. That was because he was with them.
He was by their side.
He took on everything for them.
Now,.
He has told them.
That if anyone hates them, he will be punished and he will leave. After this,.
The disciples.
How could they not be sad? How could they not be worried?
How could they not be afraid?
Here, Jesus said, what is even more incredible,.
Is that.
Jesus said, I will go to you those who are righteous, because if I do not go,.
The one who guards,.
That is the Holy Spirit, will not come. If I go, I will send him to you. He will come to you. Jesus knows what we really need. It is the Completer, it is the Protector, it is the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who can dwell in our hearts.
He is the Holy Spirit.
Who knows nothing, who is nowhere. He dwells in the hearts of those who are jealous. He dwells in us, guides us, prompts us, allows us to communicate with God, to be good to God. He teaches us to discern between good and evil.
There is a.
New.
Life,.
A new understanding of God's will. He teaches us to live in God's Kingdom and to live in peace. We need the Holy Spirit more. He dwells in us. We need Jesus more to be by our side. Secondly, our second need is to discern.
Jesus teaches us to bear fruit in this world. But how can we.
Bear fruit.
In this world based on our worldly achievements? Do we need propaganda? Do we need colorful lights and lanterns? Or do we need.
Bright clothing?
Or.
Do we need to keep our.
Mouth shut.
To keep our Not these. What we need is the Holy Spirit to give us strength, to teach us to bear fruit in this world. We need the Holy Spirit. He is here to judge and judge this world in this world. This is chapter 16, chapter 8.
After Adam and Eve committed a sin,.
The sin.
Dwelt among the people and was punished. Human nature.
Cannot.
Overcome itself. We need to discern.
Sin.
If we do not have the ability to discern.
We cannot.
Be free from sin. Only through the Holy Spirit can we discern our own sin, see our own sin. Christians.
Can be.
Witnesses, but without the Holy Spirit's power, we cannot discern our own sin. Jesus said on the ninth day, The Holy Spirit covered them up because they did not believe in me. The root of the sin was that they did not have faith.
They did not believe in Jesus Christ. On the contrary, they used external forces such as their own sufferings, religious beliefs, isolation, or goodwill to atone for their sins. This method was futile.
When the Holy Spirit.
Touched them,.
He taught them that only through faith in Jesus Christ can they be saved.
And atoned for their sins.
On the tenth day, Jesus said, On the one hand, they were covered up because they wanted to go.
To the Father.
You will never see me again.
Because God.
Has set a date for His Lord, Jesus Christ, to judge the world. What is the evidence.
For this statement?
The Holy Spirit.
Is the evidence.
For people to believe.
In God's will.
In other words,.
Jesus Christ completed his mission in the world and returned to the Father.
Those who believe.
In the Resurrection are saved. Jesus said in chapter 16, verse 11,.
On the one hand,.
They were judged because the King of the world was judged. Because of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, he conquered sin and death.
Therefore,.
The Lord of the world Jesus Christ.
The Lord of the world means Satan, has been constrained by death and has lost his power. The third need is to complete. The Holy Spirit is to accomplish everything. In chapter 16, verse 9 -12,.
Jesus had.
Many words to his disciples, but not now. Because the disciples.
Could not.
Fully accept these words. In the days to come, the Holy Spirit will tell them that he will accomplish everything told them. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth,.
Will.
Lead.
To understand the truth.
Of everything.
It will not.
Be like what.
He said himself,.
But.
Will tell them what he heard about the truth, and he will also.
Lead them.
From Jesus to his glory. Simply put,.
Will accomplish everything. He will teach the disciples only what he wants to say. But not now.
They.
In this short time fully understand.
The truth.
But not now. They cannot.
In this short time.
Fully understand what Jesus wants to say to them. Jesus led the disciples to complete the Holy Scripture.
They were.
Led by the Holy Spirit.
And wrote.
Jesus wants us to know many things.
We.
Not only need the knowledge, but we also need the light of the Holy Spirit to guide us, to tell us.
If there is no.
Holy Spirit in us, to light us up,.
To guide us.
If there is.
No Holy Spirit.
To enlighten us, to inspire us, then the Holy Scripture will be just an ordinary book. Receiving the truth is not a academic process. Receiving the word of God is not just listening,.
Or reading.
The Holy Scripture. We need.
The Holy Spirit to.
Proclaim the word of God to us. Here, we need to use our heart to receive it,.
And to.
Walk out of our lives with the Holy Spirit. The word of God.
Is.
That proclaims.
The word of God to us. Brothers and sisters,.
The Holy Spirit opens.
Our heart, it is justice and judgment.
That set us free.
Through the word of God, we receive the truth, and through the Holy Spirit, we receive a new life,.
And through the Holy Spirit,.
We are able to enter the kingdom of God gave us.
Control the Holy Spirit, but even though we have lost our control, Jesus promised us that we would pray to the Father and say that he.
Receive.
The Holy Spirit,.
And he will.
Eat up the Holy Spirit for us, as he promised.
You know what you have won, what you have lost,.
And what.
You have loved. Thank you for listening.
