Part 1: Christian Worship Band Rend Collective Is Pro-LGBT?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QbK9Bi71XU&t=16s
- 00:00
- Hey guys, Colin here, and welcome back to the channel where the Bible and critical thinking meet to give you real
- 00:05
- Christian commentary about the things that matter. Thanks so much for watching, let's get into the video. So Chris Llewellyn is the frontman for the immensely popular
- 00:14
- Christian worship band, Wren Collective. He recently made some seriously false and unbiblical claims about transgenderism that quite frankly just need to be refuted.
- 00:23
- I refuted them in more depth in a video that I will link in the description, please go watch that video for context about this one and come right back here if you want to understand what
- 00:31
- I'm talking about. In any case, for context, the original situation here was that a biological man won a college women's swimming championship against biological women.
- 00:42
- In response to this, there was one conservative person who said in an Instagram post, quote, this man won the women's swimming championship, end quote.
- 00:50
- In other words, he literally just said what happened in reality, you know, where we live. In response to that post,
- 00:57
- Chris Llewellyn, lead singer of Wren Collective, again said this, quote, however you feel about the implications for sports, calling a trans woman a man is hateful, unkind, don't support this kind of speech, history won't be kind to you, end quote.
- 01:13
- In my previous video on the topic, again link in description, I describe in detail why Chris's comment here is deceitful, sinful, and only serves to promote the lies of the enemy in our culture.
- 01:24
- But apparently there were many other people who were bothered by Chris's statement because he received a lot of backlash, and rightfully so.
- 01:30
- And in response to these comments he received, Chris published a follow -up post. It said this, quote, one last thing before I move on with my life, hundreds of comments in my
- 01:40
- DMs saying I've abandoned the created order and God's design, never said a word about that.
- 01:46
- I said it was hateful to apply a label to an individual that they find offensive. It's the vitriol
- 01:51
- I reject, not the diversity of opinion on a complicated new subject. God's design for the
- 01:57
- Church is to be a sanctuary and protection for anyone who is being kicked to the curb.
- 02:02
- I stand by that as the most orthodox traditional belief that there is. The simplest interpretation of Love Your Neighbor and the parable of the
- 02:11
- Good Samaritan, end quote. Well this statement is absolutely absurd. It rips Scripture out of its context to defend a position that Scripture is clearly in opposition to, and we're going to refute this response line by line.
- 02:23
- Not to pick on Chris, but to hopefully provide some truth to stand up against this falsehood that he's spreading.
- 02:29
- Now I know that despite the spirit of the age, many of you guys have some common sense. So you already know that calling a man a woman is foolish and completely out of touch with any semblance of what we call reality.
- 02:40
- But unfortunately, this is the world we live in. So just for a short little description of the traditional position on the sexes offered in the
- 02:47
- Bible, here it goes. Genesis 127 says this, quote, So God created man in his own image.
- 02:53
- In the image of God he created him male and female, he created them, end quote. In other words, there are only two options for a person's sex, man and woman.
- 03:03
- And these options are created in the beginning by God. They are clearly not created by us.
- 03:09
- Which is basically the whole point of the transgender argument that you can create or change or manipulate your own gender.
- 03:16
- See my previous video for a longer refutation. Now let's get into Chris's response specifically and demonstrate why this does not fit with the testimony of Scripture that I've just described.
- 03:27
- He starts out by saying, quote, Hundreds of comments in my DM saying I've abandoned the created order and God's design.
- 03:34
- Never said a word about that. End quote. Well actually, he did say a word about that. Chris did, in fact, call this person a trans woman.
- 03:41
- He clearly affirmed that their subjective identity, even if it is contrary to God's truth and the way he made them, is the identity that they now possess.
- 03:51
- At the very least, it's the identity that we should apply to them in our speech. This is absolutely making a statement about God's design.
- 03:59
- And this is absolutely abandoning the created order. When you call this biological man a woman, you are actively making a statement, denying the way
- 04:08
- God made them, and fostering an environment in which they can do the same. The fact is, to call a man a woman is a lie.
- 04:15
- It is a lie in the most basic sense of the word. You're intentionally saying something that you know for a fact does not correspond to reality.
- 04:23
- When you know for a fact that a person is, say, 90 years old, and this person chooses to be identified as 10 years old, if you call them 10, you are actively lying to them.
- 04:33
- And the Bible is crystal clear on this. John 17, 17 says, quote, "...sanctify them in the truth, your word is truth," end quote.
- 04:42
- Not only is truth what we're supposed to be about as Christians, but it's also abundantly obvious that God's word is the standard of truth.
- 04:49
- Therefore, to encourage and promote an unbiblical lie by calling a biological man a woman is, at its very core, a rejection of God's created order in that person's life.
- 05:00
- There is no way around that. Indeed, to say that a man can be trapped in a woman's body is to say that God has made a mistake.
- 05:07
- Psalm 139, verse 13 says, quote, "...for you formed my inward parts, you knitted me together in my mother's womb,
- 05:14
- I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made," end quote. So it really comes down to this, guys.
- 05:19
- God said that he knows exactly what he's doing. Transgenderism says that God doesn't know, and that he often makes mistakes in the sex that he designs for people.
- 05:29
- This is simply unbiblical. So no, it's not a stretch to say that Chris has abandoned the created order, nor is it out of line to say that he's abandoned
- 05:38
- God's design. That's exactly what his comments are doing. When he affirms these lies, he is literally helping someone else lie about God's design for all the world to see.
- 05:48
- It's obviously wrong. But Chris goes on, saying, quote, "...I said it was hateful to apply a label to an individual that they find offensive.
- 05:56
- It's the vitriol I reject, not the diversity of opinion on a complicated new subject."
- 06:02
- First off, it's not a complicated subject, guys. It's not nuanced. It's not complex. It's super easy.
- 06:08
- If you are a man, you are a man. If you are a woman, you are a woman. God created people with unchangeable, immutable sexes, of which there are only two.
- 06:19
- This is the way it has been since literally the dawn of time. So how on earth can you say that it's a complex or new topic?
- 06:27
- The fact is, it's only complex if you don't have a strong Christian worldview rooted in Scripture.
- 06:33
- That's the only thing that complicates this. The Bible is abundantly clear on the topic, and if you believe the
- 06:39
- Bible, your view on it can be clear too. The fact that Chris even calls this a complex issue in the first place, well that just demonstrates that he's bought into some part of the lies of the culture.
- 06:49
- The idea that finding out a person's sex is difficult is an inherent piece of the transgender worldview.
- 06:55
- So once you've accepted that, you're only a few inches away from being wrong about everything else. And he is.
- 07:01
- Where's my Biblical proof of this, you ask? Well, the Biblical proof is everywhere you look. Look at the birth of Isaac for one example.
- 07:08
- Genesis 21 verse 2 says, quote, End quote.
- 07:16
- Wait a minute. That's hate speech. They said he was a son, but there's no Biblical record whatsoever that they asked
- 07:23
- Isaac before they said that. How dare they assume his gender? What bigotry is this?
- 07:28
- The fact is, the issue of sex isn't complex, unless, of course, you've left the foundation of Scripture.
- 07:35
- Then Chris says that it's hateful to apply a label to a person that they personally find offensive.
- 07:40
- Across the board. No, it's not. The Bible does it all the time. The Bible calls everyone sinful, for instance, in Romans 3, 23, when it says, quote,
- 07:52
- But wait. Not everyone believes that they're sinful. Not everyone agrees with that statement.
- 07:57
- Some people would be offended that such a label of sinner would be given to them. After all, you don't know where they've been.
- 08:04
- You don't know any details about them. What if they identify as perfect? What if they personally see themselves as sinless and they want you to call them that?
- 08:13
- Guess what? None of that matters. How offended they are has absolutely no bearing on the truth of the statement being made.
- 08:20
- And here's the kicker, whether or not you're allowed to make it. By Chris's standard, not only is the
- 08:25
- Bible hateful when it calls everyone a sinner, because some people would be offended by that label, but Christians are actually not allowed to say that.
- 08:33
- And if we can't make it clear that everyone's a sinner, we can't preach the Gospel. This ridiculous emotional standard of never saying anything offensive to anyone ever is simply not the standard of Scripture.
- 08:45
- It's useless and self -contradictory. Then as if it couldn't get any worse, Chris says this, quote,
- 08:51
- God's design for the Church is to be a sanctuary and protection for anyone who is being kicked to the curb, end quote.
- 08:58
- I find it interesting that now all of a sudden, Chris wants to talk about God's design for something after he just helped someone else beat
- 09:05
- God's design for them beyond recognition. But I digress. He goes on saying, quote, I stand by that as the most orthodox, traditional belief there is.
- 09:15
- Again, it's laughable that after calling a man a woman, you could talk about tradition and orthodoxy when your view is not traditional nor orthodox in any perceivable way.
- 09:26
- But he continues, saying that it's, quote, the simplest interpretation of Love Your Neighbor and the parable of the
- 09:32
- Good Samaritan, end quote. Where have I heard that one before? We have to violate God's Word in this particular area.
- 09:38
- We can't tell the truth about this particular subject. Why not? Because God calls us to be loving.
- 09:45
- Yes, you're right, we are called to be loving. But the rest of the Bible is there for a reason, because it tells us how to do that.
- 09:52
- For instance, the Bible tells us to tell the truth and to help people out of horrible, sinful, lying worldviews like the transgender ideology.
- 10:00
- 2 Corinthians 10 .5 says, quote, But wait, destroying arguments, demanding obedience to Christ?
- 10:14
- This doesn't sound very loving at all. Right, and that's because you probably have a standard of love that has been formulated by you ripping verses out of context and interpreting them in light of your emotions, rather than actually believing the entire
- 10:27
- Word of God. Christians are called to tell the truth and to help people be free from this disgusting and wicked worldview of transgenderism.
- 10:36
- But then, to illustrate his argument with Biblical principles, Chris brings up the loving your neighbor example and the
- 10:43
- Good Samaritan example. Just to be clear though, lying to your neighbor, about their real sex that is, is a violation of loving your neighbor.
- 10:51
- It is not loving your neighbor in practice to lie to them. This used to be a common knowledge thing for Christians.
- 10:57
- Remember when Galatians 5 .14 says, quote, While Leviticus 19 .11,
- 11:08
- that's the law, says, quote, You see, when the
- 11:13
- Bible tells you to love your neighbor, that does not mean to never do anything that might hurt your neighbor's feelings.
- 11:19
- Rather, it's saying to treat your neighbor well according to the standards of God's Word. Then Chris talks about the story of the
- 11:26
- Good Samaritan. This is a ridiculously absurd example. In the story of the Good Samaritan, a man is beaten, stripped of all of his clothing, robbed, and left for dead on the side of the road.
- 11:39
- Tell me again how that story has any bearing on the situation of a grown man wanting me to call them a lovely lady.
- 11:46
- How on earth do these two things connect in any way? The Samaritan did not lie to the man who had been beaten.
- 11:52
- In fact, the man who had been beaten was called, you guessed it, a man. But wait, what kind of cisgendered bigotry is this?
- 12:00
- He was called a man, but how do we know he wasn't gender -neutral? Or two -spirited? Or gender -fluid, for that matter?
- 12:06
- The fact is, the Bible is strongly against transgenderism in all of its manifestations.
- 12:12
- It assumes that everyone is male or female. And this might hurt people's feelings, but then again, that's what
- 12:18
- God's truth often does when it's confronting a wicked heart. And thank the Lord that that's the case.
- 12:24
- Because if the Lord didn't confront us in our sin with His truth, we would be left in our sin.
- 12:29
- We wouldn't be saved. Chris Llewellyn of Wren Collective has not only deceived his audience and promoted an evil worldview in the process, but he's actually doubled down on this.
- 12:39
- And he's called everyone who opposes this falsehood unloving. But it doesn't have to be this way, Chris.
- 12:44
- You can always repent and receive grace for this through Christ. Remember that. But let me leave all of you with this passage.
- 12:51
- Ephesians 4 .25 says, Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor.
- 13:00
- So let's be loving by speaking the truth with our neighbors and helping them out of lies. That's what true love looks like.
- 13:07
- And pray that Chris Llewellyn would stop spreading this unbiblical nonsense and turn to the truth of God's Word.
