The Feast of Trumpets and Its Biblical Setting

And we're going to touch a little on the Feast of Trumpets here on the chart. And as I indicated, there are a number of verses that are listed underneath the Feast of Trumpets, and I will not be reading all of those verses.

There are so many passages that could be read tonight, and I'm going to pick and choose a little bit. So, we'll turn to Leviticus chapter 23, just as an initial reading. Leviticus chapter 23, and we'll read verse 23 of this chapter.

And we have noted,. Now we're going to go back to the book of Genesis chapter 12. To the book of Genesis chapter 12, and we'll read verse 1. This is relative to Abraham, and he has left Ur of the Chaldees, and he's on a journey to Haran.

Verse 1,. Down to verse 7 of the same chapter. Now over in chapter 15 in the book of Genesis, chapter 15, and we'll read verse 13. He said unto Abram, But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again, for in the iniquities of the Amorites is not yet full.

Notice verse 18 of the chapter, this verse particularly. And in the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land. Now notice this,. From the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river of Euphrates.

From the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates. Now over to Isaiah chapter 11. The 11th chapter of the prophecy of Isaiah. Isaiah chapter 11, and we'll read verse 10. Isaiah chapter 11 and verse 10,.

And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people. To it shall the Gentiles seek, and his rest shall be glorious. Now verse 11,. And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people.

That is the children of Israel, Which shall be left from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Patras, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea, and from the United States of America.

The islands of the sea would encompass the whole world in that statement. Chapter 27 of Isaiah. And we'll read verse 12. Chapter 27 and verse 12. And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt.

And ye shall be gathered, this is the children of Israel, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. And it shall come to pass in that day, now notice this, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts of the land of Egypt, and shall worship the Lord in the holy mount of Jerusalem.

Israel’s Restoration and the Promise of the Land

Jeremiah chapter 29. Jeremiah chapter 29 and verse 10. For thus saith the Lord, that after seventy years be accomplished in Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Now we're going to come to the Gospel of Matthew chapter 24. You will realize of course that Matthew chapter 24 is the Olivet Discourse, and with the exception of one or two verses at the commencement of the chapter, the whole chapter describes future events from the beginning to the end of the chapter, and even on into chapter 25.

So chapter 24, we'll read verses 1. And the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, then unto questions, When shall these things be? He never answered that question. And what shall be the sign of thy coming?

He did give some answers to that question. And of the end of the world? And he never answered that question. Verse 15 of the chapter. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in a holy place.

Now I indicated, and just a brief remark before reading up on this chapter, that the Lord is speaking of future events here. And in verse 15, when he speaks about the abomination of desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, notice standing in the holy place, there must be a temple rebuilt of some kind.

That temple is not described in the word of God. But we have an indication here that there must be something that is going to be recognized as the temple. This is after the rapture. Because there will be a holy place.

And that holy place is going to be desecrated. That's what took place in the prophet, that the prophet Daniel told of the desolation that was spoken of by the prophet Daniel. Now come down the chapter to verse 16.

Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountain. Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house. Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

Notice verse 15. I'm just reading a few verses here. Verse, not verse 15, verse 21. Notice verse 21. For there shall be a great tribulation. Such as was not since the beginning of the world. To this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Except those days should be shortened. There should no flesh be saved. But for the elect's sake. Now the elect are Israel. Because you will not be on earth when these words are being fulfilled. So the elect does not refer to Christians in this period of time.

The elect refers to the nation of Israel. And so he says for the elect's sake. Then the days are going to be shortened. Notice verse 29. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened.

And the moon shall not give her light. And the stars shall fall from heaven. And the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall appear the sign of the son of man in heaven. And then all tribes of the earth shall mourn.

And they shall see the son of man coming. Coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Now I think that that's all that we're going to read. Now I indicated that there could be many passages of scripture that we could read with what is before us for tonight.

The Feasts in Dispensational, Doctrinal, and Devotional Perspective

I'm going to make a few remarks first. Before I get into the feast of trumpets. I want to go back to something I made, a statement I made earlier. Going back particularly probably to the first or second night that we were together.

And I suggested that what is found in Leviticus chapter 23 could be looked at in three ways. I suggested it could be looked at in a dispensational way. And I enlarge on that. I'm not going to enlarge on that now.

That God is giving to us an overall view of his purposes. Not only for the days that we live in. But for future events when we come to the last three here. And then on into the eternal ages. The chart says from eternity.

That is God's purposes were settled in the thinking of God and the minds of God in eternity. And then it will run on to the eternal ages. So the vast period that is covered. We'll leave that. We indicated that this could be looked at in a doctrinal way.

I suggested that already tonight. When we come to this feast and the Lord speak unto Moses five times in the chapter. And divides the chapter into five sections. So we're on another section of the chapter tonight.

But what I want to emphasize is that I also indicated not only dispensational. Not only doctrinal. But it could be looked at in a devotional way. And I suggested that we could say Christ my Passover. And that takes us back to the cross.

And to the moment that we were saved. And then I suggested Christ my sanctification. That's the feast of unleavened bread. And the life of the believer. Let us keep the feast. And then we suggested Christ my assurance.

That is the resurrection of Christ. Is an assurance. Absolute guarantee. That God is perfectly satisfied in the work of his son on the cross. And then Christ my power. The coming of the spirit of God.

Now I made this suggestion. And I indicated by application. And so I suggested when we come to the feast of trumpets. Christ my hope. Of course the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now when I said by application.

I said that and went over that again tonight. Because we're going to look at the feast of trumpets. As it is. This is not application tonight. This is the feast of trumpets. As it is found here in Leviticus chapter 23.

The Two Aspects of Christ’s Coming

We are aware that there are two aspects of the Lord's coming. He is coming to the air above the earth. That will be the moment when this period of time. That we have referred to as the interval between the fourth.

Four feasts and the three feasts. This period of time will end. At the rapture. When the Lord comes. He's coming to the air above the earth. Those who are not saved on the earth will never see the meeting.

Of the church, the bride of Christ with the Lord in the air. Just consider this for a moment. And there is someone who will see it. Satan is the prince of the power of the air. And in that realm of Satan.

The Lord will display his bride. And he will display his bride to the eyes of Satan. To the powers of darkness. To impress upon them. What his victory on the cross has accomplished. And then he will usher us into heaven.

He and I together entering. Those bright courts above. He and I together sharing. All the father's love. That's the coming of the Lord to the air. But the Lord is going to come back to the earth. And some of the statements that we have read.

In Matthew chapter 24. And particularly the sign of the Son of Man from heaven. Coming and he's going to be seen from the earth. And he's coming back to the earth. And every eye is going to see him. When we come to these last three feasts.

Preparation is being made. For that moment when. The Lord is going to step from the throne in heaven. And he's going to return to this earth. And so the trumpets here. Have really nothing to do with the rapture.

And so that's why I went back to what we said earlier. That was my application. This is what it actually means. And what it implies. There are no signs for the rapture. I just want to impress that upon us.

I read about a sign tonight. But the sign that I have read about. And there are signs in Matthew chapter 24. But they are all signs that indicate. The moment that the Lord is going to return to the earth.

There are no signs for the rapture. Can I just. Impress something upon all of us for a moment. There have been dark days in the history of this world. In fact this world knows dark days. That's a continuing experience of this world.

And so if you go back. Over the ages of time. Go back for example to the Roman Forum. When your brethren. Your sisters. That is those who were saved. Were led into the Roman arena. And the lions were loose.

Those were dark days. Back to the days in the darkness of Europe. When the Catholicism reigned. In those very dark days. And many many Christians were put to death. Those were dark days. We have never experienced.

That kind of darkness. And that kind of persecution. As took place. Under the inquisition. And the diabolical methods that the. Jesuits had of putting people to death. Those were dark days. When you go back.

Even more recent. To World War II. World War I. When there were young men. Dying in the trenches of Europe. If not dying from the enemy's bullets. Dying from the disease. That was rampant in those trenches.

Or by the poison gas. Those were very dark days. If you go back to World War II. Then everyone in the United States. Knows the treachery. Of the Japanese Navy. When they bombed Pearl Harbor. Those were dark days.

Hundreds of American soldiers. And sailors were killed. When those ships were bombed. In Pearl Harbor. You go back to the. Fighting that took place. And to the conclusion of the Holocaust. Brethren. There have been no darker days.

Than the Holocaust. And so what I'm saying is. Don't get too excited here. ISIS has never put to death. As many as the Germans did. Has never put to death as many. As Japan did. Darker days than what we are in.

Have passed. This world has known dark days. And so don't look at. What is taking place around us. As indication of the rapture. It's no indication of the rapture. Days darker. Than the days that we are living in.

Have been existed in the past. When people have really suffered. Far more than people are suffering today. What ISIS has done. Appears to be very violent. And treacherous to us. Because we see that. That's on the newspapers.

That's broadcast. We see it. But what ISIS has done. Is minor brethren. Compared to what has happened in the past. ISIS is no sign. Of the coming of the Lord. And so what I am saying. What I am emphasizing here is this.

There are no signs of the rapture. When the Apostle Paul. Wrote to the Corinthians. He said knowing that. He which raised up the Lord Jesus. Shall raise up us also. In Paul's day. He looked that there was a possibility.

That he would die. Then he put his head. On one of the Roman Emperor's blocks. And was decapitated. Like you have seen ISIS do. That was one of Paul's. One of God's choices. Servants. Was executed. By the Roman sword.

Paul also penned to the Corinthians. These words. Behold I show you a mystery. We shall not all sleep. But we are going to be caught away. In Paul's day. He looked for the coming of the Lord. That was the hope that Paul had.

That before his life came to an end. He was ready for death. But he expected the Lord to come. And that has been the hope of believers. Down through the ages. And so set all your signs aside. And fill your soul with this.

We expect to see the Lord to come. At any moment. Regardless of what is taking place. On this earth. And so don't look for signs. And don't look at the circumstances. That are taking place on this earth today.

But be aware of this. Regardless. Of what is taking place on this earth. The Lord could come at any moment. And it doesn't depend. Upon anything taking place. Nothing has to be fulfilled. Before the Lord comes.

He could come. At any moment. And so with that in view. When we come to what we have before us here. There are signs. Because now we are past the rapture. The rapture has taken place. At the end of the day of grace.

The Feast of Trumpets and the Regathering of Israel

In Leviticus chapter 23. The day of grace commenced suddenly. When the Spirit of God came. It will end suddenly. When the Lord Jesus Christ returns. When He returns. Then there are going to be events.

That are going to take place. And they are going to take place. Very quickly. One event after another. We are going to be occupying for a moment. Then tonight. With one of those events. The feast of trumpets.

And there are two trumpets on that chart. One of those trumpets is a silver trumpet. Sorry that it looks brown. But you can't really put a silver trumpet. On a white background. And so she made it brown.

That is actually a silver trumpet. That is a ram's horn. And I would feel. That there is one reference. That might indicate. That both trumpets are involved. On this particular feast today. Of trumpets.

Israel today. And the feast of trumpets. Is the summoning of the Jew. Back to the land. Now Israel today. Is a political state. That is recognized. In the world by the United Nations. By most countries in the world.

With some exceptions. And so there is a little state. Over in the eastern end. Of the Mediterranean. That is called Israel. I am going to touch a little then. Upon the past of that state. Just for a few moments.

At the end of the. First world war. On a day in November. The second. In the year 1917. In the British Parliament. At Westminster. The government of Great Britain. Passed a declaration. That declaration was called.

The Balfour Declaration. And the Balfour Declaration stated. That it was the purpose. Of the government of Great Britain. To support a Jewish homeland. In the area of Palestine. Many years passed. And the second world war came.

And at the end of the second world war. Along about the years. 1946 -47. And on into 1948. There were a little group of Jewish people. Just a small little group. Not very many. And they were fighting for a homeland.

And they were surrounded. By a vast number. Of Arab troops. Armaments. And soldiers. Greatly vastly outnumbered. And out supplied. And yet here they were. In the little place. In the environs of Jerusalem at the time.

But a little tiny group of men. And women. Fighting for a homeland. And in spite of the Balfour Declaration. That the British government declared. Right at that time. When there was a great need. That these few people had.

The British government. Barricaded the eastern coast. Of the Mediterranean Sea. And would not let supplies go through. To these Jewish fighters. So much for the Balfour Declaration. That's politics. You can never depend upon politics.

But because of the. Of the bravery. And of the ingenuity. And the resourcefulness. Of these few Jewish people. They were able to. Get supplies in. By various ways. And they even had old airplanes. That hardly could fly.

That came in with supplies. And in the end. These very. Small little group. Defeated. The vast host of the. Arab armies that had surrounded. The city of Jerusalem. And they won a victory. So that on May.

The. If I get the right date here. May the 15th in 1948. In the city of Tel Aviv. The. Newly appointed or elected. Prime Minister of Israel. David Ben Gurion. Raised for the first time. The Star of David.

Over the city of Tel Aviv. And declared a homeland. For the Jewish people. There was no credit to the British government. Or no other government in the world. For that. These people fought. And they won the battle.

And they declared a state for themselves. And so for the first time. In 2000 years. The Jewish people had a state. Of their own. Now I remember as a young believer. Going back not to 1947. But going back.

1948 going back. Shortly after I was saved. That was in the 1950s. I remember hearing. Some say that that was. The regathering of Israel. Now if you've got. What I have already said about this chart. You will know.

That the regathering of Israel. Will not take place until after the rapture. Israel. As we know Israel today. Is not the regathering of Israel. Israel. Will not be regathered. And the scriptures that we have read.

Will not be fulfilled. Until after the rapture. Takes place. And so there are some Jewish people. There today. But the Jewish people that are there today. Are only a small part. Of the vast number of Jewish people.

That are in the world. In various parts of this world. And so the Jew today. For the most part is scattered and peeled. That is they are spread. Across the nations of this earth. Unlikely. I wouldn't know the population number.

But likely there are many of them. In the United States. There are many of them north of you in Canada. Throughout the world they are spread. And they have not gone back to the land. As the scriptures say.

They are going to go back. However when David Ben-Gurion. Raised the star of David. Over the city of Tel Aviv. I just want you to notice for a moment. The star of David. National flags have a significance.

I have a little thing about me. And I have already tried it once here. Maybe the couple is here now. Because my little thing is. I like to ask young Americans. How many stripes on the U .S. flag. Or how many stars.

On the U .S. flag. But not only that. Why are there a certain number of stripes. And why are there a certain number of stars. If you were to ask me the significance. Of the flag of Canada. I have a problem.

You know what it is. Maple leaf on a white background. Two red bars. I don't know what those red bars stand for. I have puzzled over that. If those red bars were blue. I could maybe picture oceans at one end.

And the other end of the country. I have never seen a red maple leaf like that. And so I accept the flag. So anyway. The star of David has a significance. It is said to be. The emblem. That was on the shield.

Of David. Now we don't know that for sure. We have no record of that. To go back. So that might be just tradition. But that's what they claim it is. But you know what the star of David is. The star of David.

Is a six pointed star. It's made up of two triangles. One triangle is laid. Over top of the other triangle. But the next time you see it. Take a good look at it. Because one point of the star. Is pointing down.

On earthly people. One point of the star. Is pointing up. Of people that. Supposedly recognizes God. But you might put a question mark over that. Two points of the star. Are pointing to the east. Two points of the star.

Are pointing to the west. Of people that is scattered. Across the face of this earth. But that's not all. Take another good look at that. Because the triangles. Are not really laid. One on top of the other.

The triangles are intertwined. That suggests. Of people. That have never lost their identity. You know what happens. If you go back 150 years. The United States. Had a large number of Italian immigrants.

Come to the United States. They spoke Italian. They had children. Their children going to an English school. Spoke English and Italian. Their grandchildren might have picked up. A spattering of Italian.

But not very much. Until you go a few generations down. And there's no Italian language. But that's not the Jew. The Jew has maintained his culture. He has maintained his custom. And no matter where you go.

And see a Jew. A Jew is a Jew wherever you see a Jew. And so in a most remarkable way. They have maintained. Their identity. They have maintained. Who they are. No matter where they are found. So sitting in the dentist chair.

And I knew that my dentist. A lady was a Jew. And so I asked her. I probably mentioned this before. Just a little bit of bait. To see what kind of reaction I would get. And so I asked her. If she kept Christmas.

I knew what the answer was going to be. And so she said no. I'm a Jew. A Jew is a Jew. No matter where they are. And so God looks down. Upon this earth. And he sees the Jewish people scattered. Across the earth.

And the Jewish people. Are God's chosen people. We do well to remember that. We are instructed in the Bible. To pray for the peace. Of Jerusalem. We need to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Because there's going to be.

Hard hard times. That lie ahead. And there might be hard times. Before the rapture. We don't know what lies ahead. Before the rapture comes. But they might be. Going to pass you most difficult times. Now let me give you.

Israel’s Three Captivities and Three Deliverances

A little. A little bit of the. Of the history of Israel. In three parts. When you come to the word of God. There are three captivities. And there are three deliverances. From those captivities. You know the first captivity.

When we've read about that. In the book of Genesis. When God told Abraham. That his seed. Would go down to the land of Egypt. And that they would be in the land of Egypt. For 400 years. Now we're not going to debate the 400 years tonight.

Nor at the end of this meeting. There's a question about the 400 years. Some of my brethren here would know that. But God told them. Told Abraham. That there were going to be difficulties. And so they went down.

Not as slaves. They went down under the auspices. Of Joseph. But then there was another king arose. That knew not Joseph. And so they ended up. As slave labor. In the land of Egypt. And so that was the first captivity.

The land of Egypt. And so God raised up a Moses. To bring them out of Egypt. And he raised up a Joshua. To take them into the land. And then he had promised them. If they kept his word. And we need to take note of this ourselves.

He said if they had kept his word. If they had obeyed him. He would preserve them. And bless them in that land. But if they didn't. There would be another captivity. And you know the outcome. They didn't keep his word.

And they drifted into idolatry. And they departed from God. And so there was a second captivity. And so 600 years. After they had come. Out of the land of Egypt. After King Solomon died. And I'm going to go into this.

A little more detail later. But after King Solomon died. Rehoboam his son. Unwisely. Allowed a man. By the name of Jeroboam. To take 10 of the tribes. To the north and establish. And your bible would be referred to as Israel.

In the Old Testament. Sometimes called Ephraim. And in the south Rehoboam. Took two tribes plus a few from Levi. The Levites. Judah and Benjamin. And established his kingdom in the south. So now Israel is divided.

A northern kingdom and a southern kingdom. The northern kingdom under Jeroboam. And a whole succession of very poor kings. Fell into idolatry. And so. God judged them. And he sent. The Assyrian Empire.

And the armies of the Assyrian Empire. In to take them. Into captivity. So in the year 740 B .C. Tilgath Pilsar. An Assyrian. Took most of them into captivity. And then about 40 years later. Shalmaneser.

Another Assyrian came. And took the rest. And so as far as the northern kingdom was concerned. The ten tribes in the north. Most of them had been taken into captivity. And dispersed. But in the south.

God gave them another hundred years. Some of the kings in the south. Were relatively good kings. God gave them that hundred years. Because of David. God tells them that. Because of my servant David. But at the end of that hundred years.

They too departed from God. And so God sent another empire. He sent a man named Nebuchadnezzar. And the Babylonian army. Came to the south. And to the city of Jerusalem. And in 610 B .C. Nebuchadnezzar came.

And took many of them down to Babylon. Into captivity. And then later. In the year 599 B .C. Nebuchadnezzar came again. And this time destroyed the city of Jerusalem. And took the holy vessels. From the temple.

Down into Babylon. And I indicated before. That the times of the Gentiles commenced. When Nebuchadnezzar entered the city of Jerusalem. But if they had of had the prophecy of Jeremiah. If they had of read Jeremiah.

I read the verses tonight. In Jeremiah chapter 29 and verse 10. God also said. That you will be 70 years. In captivity. Now there is a reason for that. I won't take time to go into that reason. But there was 70 years.

In captivity. So if they had read Jeremiah. They would of known. When 69 years come. And when 69 and a half years come. We got a half a year to go. Some of us are going to be set free. And so under a man who appears in the Bible.

A few times. A man by the name of. Darius. He issued a decree. And the decree allowed. A certain number. Now this is the recovery. From the Babylonian captivity. He allowed a certain number. A small number of Jewish people.

And they are almost all named. In Ezra and in the book of. Nehemiah. Cyrus. Cyrus allowed a small number of them. To return to Jerusalem. And to commence to build the walls. And they start to work on the temple.

That was the second captivity. And the deliverance. From that captivity. The third captivity. The Lord Jesus told that. In Matthew chapter 24. He told them that the temple. Was going to be destroyed. He said the temple.

Was going to be taken apart. Stone by stone. And you might wonder. Why would Roman soldiers. Because it would be the Romans this time. Why would Roman soldiers. Want to go to all that work. To destroy a temple.

Piece by piece. Well I read one time. And I don't know whether this is the reason. But it might well be. That because of the heat of the fire. That was inside the temple. The gold of the temple. Had melted.

And had run down between the cracks of the stone. And they took it apart. Because they wanted the gold. That was between the cracks of the stone. That might have been the reason. There would have to be a reason.

Why they wanted to dismantle that temple. And so under the Roman General Titus. In the year 70 AD. The Roman General Titus. Invaded the land of Israel. That was a very cruel time. Hundreds of Jewish people.

Were literally crucified. And history tells us. That the Roman army ran out of wood. To make crosses. Many Jewish people were literally slaughtered. Under Titus. And under the Roman army. That had invaded the land.

And so the result was. That the Jewish people. At that point in time. Finally were scattered across the earth. And there were very few of them. That were left in the land of. Palestine or Israel. In that land.

But now. The regathering of that. I've touched two. Captivities and two regatherings. The one captivity. Egypt. Delivered by Moses and Joshua. The other captivity Babylon. And it was Ezra and Nehemiah.

That led them out of Babylon. Back to Jerusalem. To commence this building. Now they have been dispersed again. Under the Romans. They have never been regathered. That regathering has not taken place.

The Future Regathering and the Coming Tribulation

But that regathering. Will take place. There is going to come. A moment. And likely very quickly. After the rapture. Two tremendous things are going to happen. I don't know how many Jews. There would be in the cross.

I don't know how many Christians. There would be in the cross. But when the rapture comes. There are going to be empty houses. There will be jobs that will not be fulfilled. There will be vacant places.

People will be missing. Wherever they are. When the rapture takes place. There will be an exodus of Christians. From the cross. But there will be a second exodus. From the cross. That second exodus. Will be when God will put it.

Into the heart. Of every Jewish person. My dentist. My cardiologist was a Jew. And declared to me that he will never go back to Israel. If he is alive. And on this earth. After the rapture. It will be put into his heart to get back.

And so in some way. The trumpet. I don't think that we are going to picture here. Someone blowing a trumpet. Around the world for everyone to hear. I take it simply this. That God is going to put it into the heart.

Of every Jewish person. Wherever they are. To get back to the land. To go back. Whether they go back by air. Whether in Europe. They go back by land. Whether they go back by sea. They will go back. And it will be a mass movement.

Upon the face of this earth. As Jewish people. Begin to make their way back. Remember. God said to Abraham. I will make of thee a great nation. That great nation. That God had in mind. I would gather.

Is what is going to take place in the future. Abraham presently. Historically has a great name. Even Islam recognizes Abraham. By the way. Don't get too excited about Islam. Islam is not going to have the world.

They are not going to have a small part of the world. Because only one man. Will have that. And that is the king of kings. So don't get too excited about Islam. And by the way. All Islamic people. Are not terrorists.
