Mental Illness (Part 1)

Today on No Compromise Radio, Pastor Mike analyzes mental illness from a Biblical viewpoint. What does the Bible say about mental illness? Is sin being re-labeled as mental illness? We live in a society where psychotherapy medications are commonplace in driving human behavior and thinking. Words such as addiction and recovery are common vernacular and there are numerous help groups and anonymous groups claiming to solve man's problems; few look to what the Bible says about mental illness.

If you think that for the rest of your life you will have to cope with a lot of different medicine, hopefully this show will give you hope. If you do things God's way then there is hope for you. Pastor Mike is NOT telling you to toss all of your medicine away-but maybe after talking to your doctor perhaps you can set a goal to be on less medicine and more active in the church and Bible study.

True and False Quiz:

The topic of mental illness is a very controversial subject-True. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. Have you ever had to hurt someone to help them? The cure for mental illness is not found in atheistic psychology.

Romans 15:7

Mental problems are real and extremely difficult-True. We live in a fallen sin cursed world and problems are real. We are weak and fragile people. We all struggle with different things, but just because we face difficulties does not mean we have an excuse to quit. Depression and anxiety are real problems, but you cannot just give up. The unrighteous give up, and they first need to be saved and then have their problems dealt with. If you are Christian you need to think that although times may be difficult quitting is not an option. You cannot play blame games and blame other people or God for your behaviors. What do you need to do-You need to take personal responsibility and admit your problem(s): I struggle with the sin of anxiety, I do sinful things and then I am depressed, I am lazy and then I am depressed, I respond wrongly to situations and then I do not feel good. The Gospel can give you hope.
James 1:14
Proverbs 24:16
Proverbs 19:3

CONCLUSION: Sin and the consequences of sin should not be redefined as a mental illness. You need to repent; not enroll (or re-enroll) in a recovery program.
