All right we're going to start in Luke 10 38. Now it came to pass,
00:22
Russell that means that time passes and it's not noted, as they went they entered into a certain village.
00:33
When it says a certain man or certain village it means that it could have been named had it been necessary.
00:45
So in this case it wasn't necessary. And a certain woman named
00:50
Martha received him into her house and she had a sister called
00:58
Mary which also sat at Jesus' feet and heard his words.
01:04
Now both these sisters were holy and devout women.
01:12
Both had an honor and reverence for Christ and both are forward to entertain him.
01:22
These were sisters by grace as well as by nature. Yea they both for a time attended upon Christ preaching.
01:34
But one of them got to thinking about things that needed to be done.
01:45
But also Mary also sat at Jesus' feet implying that Martha sat there too for a while until the occasion of household chores began to weigh so heavy on her mind.
02:10
But Martha was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said,
02:16
Lord does thou not care that my sister had left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me.
02:26
Now we have one of the sisters, Martha, that was cumbered.
02:36
Virge, what does cumbered mean? All right.
02:48
Russell, what do you think cumbered means? All right.
02:58
Troubled? Bill, what does cumbered mean? We find ourself cumbered sitting in service thinking about everything else.
03:16
Thinking about what I have to do when I get home, if I get home. Well to be over occupied, too busy, too busy about a thing, busy doing the wrong thing at the right time or the right thing at the wrong time.
03:36
How sad it is when Christians complain about each other instead of helping in the joy of each other.
03:52
41. And Jesus answered her and said to her.
03:57
Now she stood it as long as she could and she went to the
04:02
Lord, complained about Mary. And the Lord said, Martha, Martha thou art careful and troubled about many things.
04:15
David, what should she have been concentrating upon? That's right.
04:34
And we've all been there. But one thing is needful and Mary hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken away from her.
04:48
Virgie calls it a good part and it shall not be taken away from her.
04:58
Martha was trying to do too much. This caused frustration. Joy, if you're at that point, then by all means sit down.
05:15
Sit at the feet of Jesus. You'll be a better cook, a better housewife, a better farmer.
05:25
You can even mow your lawn better, even drive your car better, even treat your dog better.
05:37
Just sit and hear what the Master has to say to you. And that's where we stop.
