All right we're going to start in Luke 10 38. Now it came to pass, Russell that means that time passes and it's not noted, as they went they entered into a certain village. When it says a certain man or certain village it means that it could have been named had it been necessary.
So in this case it wasn't necessary. And a certain woman named Martha received him into her house and she had a sister called Mary which also sat at Jesus feet and heard his words. Now both these sisters were holy and devout women.
Both had an honor and reverence for Christ and both are forward to entertain him. These were sisters by grace as well as by nature. Yea they both for a time attended upon Christ's preaching. But one of them got to thinking about things that needed to be done.
But also Mary also sat at Jesus's feet implying that Martha sat there too for a while until the occasion of household chores began to weigh so heavy on her mind. But Martha was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said Lord does thou not care that my sister had left me to serve alone bitter therefore that she helped me.
One of the sisters Martha that was cumbered. Merge what does cumbered mean? Russell what do you think cumbered means? Alright troubled. Bill what does cumbered mean? We find ourself cumbered sitting in service thinking about everything else.
Thinking about what I have to do when I get home if I get home. Well to be over occupied, too busy, too busy about a thing, busy doing the wrong thing at the right time or the right thing at the wrong time.
How sad it is when Christians complain about each other instead of helping in the joy of each other. 41 And Jesus answered her and said to her now she stood it as long as she could and she went to the Lord complained about Mary and the Lord said Martha Martha thou art careful and troubled about many things.
David what should she have been concentrating upon? That's right and we've all been there. But one thing is needful and Mary hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken away from her. Virgie calls it a good part and it shall not be taken away from her.
Martha was trying to do too much and this caused frustration. Joy if you're at that point then by all means sit down. Sit at the feet of Jesus. You'll be a better cook, a better housewife, a better farmer.
You can even mow your lawn better, even drive your car better, even treat your dog better. Just sit and hear what the Master has to say to you and that's where we stop. Remember Martha and Mary. Birds dismisses please.
