That's the bear. What up doe. And they call me the ninja. We're here with a really actually kind of cool. Yeah out of the ordinary episode. Yeah Apologia TV. We do stuff on apologetics on theology. We confront cultural issues with the good news and the Word of God and so it's oh, you know, it's fun.

Mm-hmm, we do fight like we don't do fun stuff. Are we allowed to have fun? We you know, God is all about fun. I think you know, he created he's a creator of fun. But this this show is is interesting because the people that are on this show today with us are really actually pretty fun.

Yeah, I think so I've watched their stuff on and there's a thing like with YouTube stuff like YouTube celebrities YouTube couples people that film their lives. I had this thing where I'm like, I don't care to watch like what you do I gotta watch my own kids like small things and like why don't watch you and so I it's weird to me like.

You know these people like celebrities and people watch their lives, but if you watch Sam and Nia, yeah on YouTube. It's actually pretty entertaining. Yeah, it's really good stuff. And I think that most people will know Sam and Nia from this very very popular video came out a long time ago and Well, I'll just play it for you.

Okay, that you're a big fan of this stuff. I am yeah. You're a very large man love this video with a beard and tatted up with gauges. We call you the bear. Yeah, and you love frozen. I do so enjoy. So that's Sam and Nia.

Sam and Nia welcome to the show guys, thank you. Absolutely, so you record yourselves doing frozen Luke is all giddy right now.

I actually do that same thing with my daughter. Do you really sometimes on my video up?

It's embarrassing as many hits of Sam and Nia. It's embarrassing. Okay, but welcome to the show guys. We're really really honored to have you on the show today and and we want to talk about. You know.

There were some really great things and beautiful things and fun things and obviously some very weighty things and we were actually very very thrilled. That's um, you guys give us the opportunity to chat with you.

Okay, so you guys are like YouTube celebrities. So tell us about what it's like being sort of like YouTube celebrity family. What's it like?

I don't consider Celebrities and I guess just until recently everybody's saying that in the and like the articles YouTube stars. I've never heard that term before really. We're relatively small compared to a lot of other bloggers.

But um, it's fun, I mean we just now started going full-time with it.

I put my two-week notice in two weeks ago. My ER nurse. Wow. Wow. I saw that video. See I pay attention Sam. Well, okay so here's what I wanted to ask you guys about because this is I think the the part of what you guys are doing that.

Faith, Family, and Vlogging as Ministry

Really? I think encourages me in light of the really good stuff that you do like, you know. Quality media and it's very fun. But the aspect of your faith as Christians. You know doing this opening opening up your family to the world.

I mean your faith is a big aspect and you guys are bold about it and you talk about it. You're not ashamed of it. So talk about your faith in light of you know, what you're doing now is you know. Again, opening your your your family up to the world to look in.

Mm-hmm.

Well when this first started I mean We made that frozen video and everybody kept telling us a blog blog you guys should plug. And we had no idea what that was. We did some research and Saw that it seemed like something fun to do.

So we gave it a shot and just loved it. We feel like it's part of God's plan for our life. Just a happiness Our family brings to the world and it's a way of us Missioning for God. We feel like there's there wasn't much that I was doing as far as me I'm not that active in my church.

I never have been and I feel pretty dumb. I Guess useless as far as like working for God and then when this came along I felt like this was what God has been calling me to do. This is it and so I've Put that the forefront of this since the beginning and I don't plan on changing it ever.

Good good Nia. I want to hear from you talk about what it's like and your family now. You know being open up to the world and you guys vlogging about your life and your faith. Talk about what that's like.

Well, I mean, I agree with everything that Sam said and you know for me as a mother I think this is just a chance for me to show other mothers And families to what it's like to just really be realistic within the home.

Especially, you know nowadays we have social media and we tend to always post, you know. Like the good happy fun times with our kids the times where we're in our makeup and our hair is all done and just giving this light of being these Perfect moms in a perfect world, right?

I think I really have the chance to show that. You know, you can you can have that side but then there's also the real side, you know with the dirty diapers and the the kids who throw tantrums in the grocery stores or.

You know just just being able to show the real side and how we make it through with God and how we lean on that.

That's really it's really encouraging to me because one of the things we like to do on this show is talk about really deep theological stuff and. And get into those areas of very serious stuff and people have said apology at television it goes from silly to serious or to searing very quickly and so but we like to be very real and just Transparent on the show and so that's I think what I is what I like very much about what you guys are doing.

The Pregnancy Announcement and the Joy of Life

You know you guys Recently had this really amazing video and you know. What's interesting guys is is that when I saw the video for the first time I was actually getting up. I was I was in bed laying in bed.

Next to my wife and she was on her phone and she I could hear your video playing. And I'm not always paying attention to what she's you know watching on her phone. But I heard your video playing and and I immediately got drawn in To this video that went viral.

It's right now about 13 million views on YouTube. And how many how when did you put that up? Wednesday last Wednesday and so. Talking this is this is really I think it's inspiring to me guys. It blessed me when I first saw it talk about that first video.

You go first.

You go first. Well, I mean I've had this idea to announce our pregnancy or Nia's pregnancy to her. But me being the one to announce it instead of her this time. I've been thinking about that idea for the past six months or so and Nia had text me while I was at work and she said hey, I'm two weeks late and I was just like Thrilled of death.

I was trying to get off work early so I could get home and do this pregnancy test because I knew. She always left her her urine and toilet at night because she doesn't flush the toilet. So that's the idea of checking it while she was sleeping and me being the one announcing it.

And so that's what I did and the story begins there in the video. Yeah, and well Nia don't feel bad. I'm right there with you with the toilet at night. My wife does the same thing. You don't wake anybody up that way.

It's surprising, I've had a lot of women tell me I do the same thing.

You don't wake any kids up that way. It can wait. Yeah, if it's yellow let it mellow. Let it mellow. Yeah. All right. So here's here's the portion of the video. That was so much fun. It's it's where you're sort of toying with Nia and you have the answer already to this gift and she doesn't know and so She pulls the pregnancy test out of your pocket.

It's just such a blessing to watch. Pull it out.

Pull it out. Gosh you are so funny. Oh, you brought a positive one home. It's true you're pregnant. Oh my god, you guys.

Miscarriage, Grief, and the Sovereignty of God

Okay, so Sam and Nia, you know why this blessed me. Um Like this in the thoughts that came through my mind as soon as I saw this it landed on a particular place. Our ministry is heavily involved very very involved in Reaching people in the area of abortion and things like that.

So we're heavily involved in that discussion and It was amazing to watch your video and the excitement that you have over this Glorious gift and you guys are like it's a we're having a baby. It's a baby and it was such a blessing to get to watch God's like Unique moment in your life in this gift and in the end the joy That will ultimately never ever end or go away with that moment.

And so I just want to tell you guys I mean really and truly In light of all that we're doing as a ministry personally right now Your video in light of all the controversy surrounding this issue in our culture right now your video truly blessed me because I thought How many people are sharing this video right now, and it's just experiencing tears and so much joy because of what God did to bless your life and So I just wanted to share that with you.

I Don't always watch these things. But I I did get to see it and it was truly I think it was such a gift and I want to tell you guys that I I do appreciate You guys opening your lives up in this way because because what happened with that video and it being shared this many times and this Many views is it really I think it brought out the image of God in people the image of God.

We're all in Mago Dei. We're all created uniquely by God and And that the fit your video your unique little video in a week's time Has blessed so many people to sort of draw out that light that we're all these unique gifts from God and the joy that you Guys experienced there and and should truly experience forever is something that I think is just such a gift to us.

So I want to tell you guys. Thank you. Yeah, and and so, you know, I You guys over the last week have experienced this tremendous gift from God to be able to really be a testimony I think of his grace and his love and the gift of life.

But then you experienced Really a tragedy and it was it was shortly after the release of this video you have both pain mingled together with joy and I know this is very personal for you guys. But you guys did put up a video to talk about this whole entire situation and I would love for you to share With us just what's going on with you guys now and how you guys are responding to this.

Because I think what you put in your second video was I think honestly it was it was a gift. It was it was as much of a blessing to see As as the first video in some sense can you guys talk about what you talked about in the second video and how you guys are are Now facing this as as believers.

Well You know, basically we just we felt like from the beginning when we were pregnant and our video What you know got big pretty quickly. We felt like you know, God is about to use us to do something big and you know we have no idea what it was, but we were so honored that he chose us and You know if if that means, you know, we lost our baby in the process and and that was you know.

This is what we feel like the plan is and we don't know where it's going or where it's taking us but right now our plan are you know, our plan with God leading us is to bring awareness to miscarriage and the loss of children and how severe and heartbreaking and Real it is especially how real it is to it.

Have support and an open communication with those around you. How is how is your church?

Walking with you in the midst of this great difficulty.

I Always say they've been nothing but supportive. I'm in the first Sunday. We weren't part. The next day our pastor showed up at our house. He sat down with us, you know prayed with us and you know just let us open up to him and then that Sunday we went to church and all the pastors prayed over us and Took their time with us and told us that we needed anything to let them know and just you know Just hugged us and you know, it was there for us.

You know It's interesting if I could if I get to share something with you guys That I hope offers some kind of encouragement in the midst of this. You know as Christians when we face something like this It really is It's pain mingled together with beauty because if you think about say the gospel the gospel itself is the story of God Becoming man to rescue the rebels and this is God entering into a broken fallen creation of Rebels and and while God comes to save us from our sins in the mid in the midst of that he is suffering along with us along the way so the Lord that we go to for our salvation and that we pray to and we Cling to the one who is sovereign over all of this.

He's the one who actually meets us in this pain he's the one that understands what it's like to have loss to experience pain to weep over a loved one and and These are really powerful moments because I think these are gospel moments.

There are moments to really testify about what God is like and he's the God who is not only sovereign Over this moment in your lives, but he's the God who also meets you in this pain he's the God who sympathizes with you and your weakness and he's the God that loves you and.

And it's really I was talking to somebody last night guys while I was counseling them and I brought up the fact that it's really a peculiar thing the message of the gospel and who God is. That God is the one who is sovereign over every detail over every loss.

Nothing takes him by surprise. Everything has a purpose according to his will For our good and his glory, but he's not just that austere sort of faraway God That's just powerful and mighty and sovereign he's the God who very much is near and he's the God that enters into our pain and While coming to chase us because we're sinners When we don't deserve that he also experiences all That is under his sovereignty including pain.

So I just want to offer you guys this encouragement. You know, we've also in my family. We've also lost babies plural Through miscarriage as well and I and I and I want to encourage you guys With the knowledge that the God that we worship and we draw near to is the God who very very much is Intimately acquainted with all your ways.

He loves you and he meets you in this pain and he has a purpose. You know what Jesus going to the cross Jesus goes to the cross and dies a brutal Death and it was awful and it was ugly and it was bloody.

But that death had God's perfect purpose the church prays and acts and they say gather in this city Against your Holy Servant Jesus. It was Pontius Pilate Herod the peoples of Israel the Gentiles to do whatever your hand had predestined to occur and that God had a purpose in this awful thing.

It was for redemption and and I want to encourage you guys and I'd love to hear from you right now I want to encourage you guys with the knowledge that God accomplishes his greatest purposes and sometimes the deepest possible pain and So I want to hear from you guys in In the sense that I'd love to hear in the midst of this great difficulty what God is doing with you guys.

What are you experiencing with God through this? And how can how can that help to shape other people's lives?

Well for me personally it's been It's just been so emotional, you know, yes, just incredibly and especially being under such as like a spotlight right now and You know all these things that everyone's saying, you know negative positive all of it.

And honestly, I feel like right now There's just this protective bubble around me and I don't know if I've seen I think you might feel the same way. But just this like bubble just wrapped around me just where none of the hatred or the you know The negativity is like penetrating through that bubble and I feel like that is just you know First of all, just God absolutely protecting me and just knowing, you know, my heart really can't handle a lot more right now, right?

But then also, you know just in time with prayer, you know I've spoken with a lot of women from our church to a lot of my friends I've been you know praying over me specifically and it's just there have been specific moments you know just in this last week or weekend where I mean he has just like met me in the midst of my prayer and Answered you with peace.

I'm telling you like Overwhelming. Yes, just like I just like drop in tears. I just it's overwhelming and it's kind of like a first-time experience for me with this kind of grieving and to be filled with the peace in the sense that You know when you just so badly need it.

Yeah, it is amazing, isn't it? It's like the we experience these things in a fallen world and it's crazy the the moments of deepest possible pain are also those moments of sweetest and deepest fellowship with God.

And when we look back in our lives at the at the really broken things the Disharmonious things the things that really display that we live in a fallen world we can look back at sort of God's in at God's story in our lives that really shows that his greatest moments in our lives were during those points of pain.

And Sam talk about How you're handling this right now and how God is is is moving in your life in the midst of this.

I feel like he's drawing me closer to him for sure. I mean, I'm getting into my Bible more than I ever have. Relationships have opened up in my life just because of this conversation. Including my father my earthly father.

He's like opened up to me and just like wrote me the sweetest email out of nowhere. I haven't heard from him in quite a while and That and just seeing his will and action has just Put me in awe. I'm just it's just like I'm just in awe of him right now watching his will take place.

And then he just put on my heart that this is just absolutely nothing compared to what he can actually do. Hmm, and it's just stuff like that. It's just been running through my head and Yeah.

Where do you where do you guys as you guys think through and pray through your lives right now? I mean Sam, you've you've put in your resignation stuff and you're gonna you're gonna do this now with your life.

Where do you where do you guys see yourself? Going with with this because this honestly guys Sam and Nia. It looks like it's not simply a YouTube channel and you guys are not simply YouTube, you know quote stars.

This looks in a sense like there's a there's an aspect of this that's ministry for you. So, where do you see that going?

No, I don't know. We don't have a 10-year plan or a five-year plan. Yeah, I quit my job. It's just kind of taking it one day at a time and just praying that you know, God leaves us and his will's done and Honestly, I don't know.

What do you see one thing?

I could say, you know for sure and we've talked about this a little bit is that we know that we are. You know on this platform to shed God's light. Yes. So wherever wherever YouTube takes us, you know.

Whether we've become recognized for this or that or we go to this convention or that convention. Like we are in these places to minister to the people around us. And also those who are watching us. And I guess basically what I'm trying to say is like wherever this career as youtubers take us.

It's it's for ministry. This has become our ministry. I don't know how else to add to that. But that's yeah, we see it.

No, it's good years from now. It'll always be our ministry. Yeah. Well see what I love I guess what I'm saying in that is too is that I appreciate a lot that You guys have this really great channel and it's fun to watch and it's entertaining and like my kids can watch it which I really appreciate.

But there's there's always underneath these things just some this stuff and substance that glorifies God, right? And so I love that it really blesses me. Um, and so Luke, do you have anything want to say to him?

You want to talk about the frozen video? Maybe you're all about.

No, I think we'll we'll leave that. No. Just as if I can offer some encouragement talking about, you know, the sovereignty of God and all this I Don't think it's any coincidence the timing of all this for you guys in light of the you know, the recent.

Well the Planned Parenthood controversy that we're right dead smack in the middle of. I mean, we're we've done several shows on that. We're you know actively trying to do what we can to defund Planned Parenthood and put an end to abortion.

And the thing that I loved about the The announcement video it was right, you know right in the midst of all this you guys didn't say oh we have products of conception. Or you know, oh I have tissue in my stomach in my womb.

You know, it was baby was focused on that and even in the second one You know to see you grieve over the loss of this when everybody's making abortion, you know making light of it like it's nothing like you're not murdering a human being and.

So, I really think that that these two videos particular are gonna be a light into this situation. And I really think God's gonna use that for his glory. So if I can just encourage you with that.

It's crazy that it happened to happen during this. Yeah, it's a huge conversation. That's happening in America with abortion and Planned Parenthood. All that has been going through my mind. Yeah, it's amazing.

Yeah, and and that that needs to be highlighted guys. And if if anything can offer you for a moment because we don't always know what the answer is like The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but what he's revealed belongs to us and our children.

There are things about God and in this world that he's told us and we can have certainty we have confidence in and there's things That are the secret things of God. We don't know all the answers, but I can say this like Like this is one of those moments where you're like, well, there's there's like a reason there's one of God's Reasons for this moment is that that this moment shed light on the the beauty of life and the glory of his grace in the midst of you guys as a married couple having this gift and Man, that's been just been my heart a lot as I thought about this is exactly that point Luke is is This has come in just right the perfect right time and I'm good like that.

He's good like that. Yeah, and So you guys you guys bless us do anything else you want to share with people About your experience in your life.

Before we let you go, you know, I think men kind of hide themselves with miscarriages, too. This was hard really hard for me. And I feel like I mean look several men have opened up to me. It's just pretty amazing and sad that we all feel like we have to hide From miscarriages that we have to keep it a secret when it's just it causes so much pain.

Yes, I mean with every member of the family all three of us have one the baby and it's just I don't know. I just want to tell your listeners, you know, if you had an abortion, you know, be open about it and I'm sorry.

Called abortion in the hospital setting. It's okay. Yeah.

Yes carriage. Yeah. Well, listen guys I can I can as a pastor and and and as someone who follows Jesus like you guys When I encourage you with the knowledge that God declares the end from the beginning He does according to his will and the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth.

No one can stay his hand and say what are you doing? God is the sovereign over your lives and he's your father and he loves you and Every moment of our lives is a gift from him. It's a gift of his grace every heartbeat.

Every breath is borrowed from him and And I'm gonna say this to you you too and your story that your family Has been a gift to a lot of people I think from God over the last week and I think will continue to be so you bless me guys and so This is Sam and Nia.
