Copper, okay, the brazen altar up front. Two lambs of the first year, day by day, continually. The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even. And with the one lamb, there comes this meal offering, a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of a hen of beaten oil, and the fourth part of a hen of wine.
I want you to notice that, for a drink offering. And then we have some instructions about the lamb, verse 42. Notice this expression, please. This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak there unto thee.
And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory, and I will sanctify the tabernacle, and so on. Come down to chapter 30, verse 1. And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense.
So the first altar we talked about was way out of the door, and that was a copper, a bronze altar, okay. Now we're moving right in close to the veil. You had the holy place, you had the veil, you had the holies of holies.
Now it's the golden altar. So something was done with that every morning and every night. Now we're going to look at this little piece. Something's done with it morning and night. Look at verse number six.
And thou shalt put it before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony before the mercy seat that is over the testimony where I will meet with thee. And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning when he dresses the lamps.
That's the candlestick, the golden candlestick. Another thing, something was done to it morning and night. He shall burn incense upon it. And when Aaron lighteth, that Hebrew word means causing to ascend.
You're doing something that's brightening the light, increasing the light. And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations.
What does it all mean? It's marvelous to think of a tabernacle structure that pictures the Lord Jesus. God has to use multiple metals, multiple animals, multiple colors, multiple fabrics, so many different things to try to bring out the richness of your and my Savior.
What's going to happen every day? The default. We all are familiar with default. We turn on our iPhone, we turn on our laptop. It comes up to a predetermined, it's programmed in where it starts. And from there is where we start.
God had the children of Israel. The priests didn't understand all this. We've got the light of the New Testament. We now have the Lord Jesus. And now we're able to look back and we're able to find him in all of these offerings and everything that he has these people to do.
Every single morning before they could receive an animal from anybody in the camp, there's something that had to be done. Before they went to bed and closed up the tabernacle system, there's something that had to be done.
The brazen altar out front, here's what I want you to get a hold of. When you're dealing with the tabernacle structure, the offerings, you know what you'll never find in the Bible? You'll never find an animal over one year old.
They're all young. They're all clean. There's no marks. Their whole life is before them. It's not the idea that you're a farmer. You folks could appreciate this. I'm a city boy. You know, there's that old cow.
Let's give it to God. God says, I want the very best. I'm going to picture this in the morning. And I'm going to picture this in the night. What is it going to be? It's going to be a burnt offering. Why not a meal offering?
Why not a sin offering? Why not? No. Why a burnt offering? When you start to study your offerings, what is unique about the burnt offering that you don't read about anything else? It's all for God. All of it went to God.
You know, the only thing the priest got? He was able to take the outer skin off, the fur, and he would take that fur home and God, he would use it to build garments and he would wear it. Think of it. The inside, all of the animal is being placed upon the altar for God and it's going up to God.
When you're in the tabernacle structure, it's good to have a Newberry Bible because you'll have two different words for burn. When it comes to these offerings that are often referred to as sweet savor offerings, it's like a slow burn, a nice slow burn.
When it comes to the sin and the trespass offering and the fat, no, the fat is sweet. When it comes to the sin and the trespass offering, the Hebrew word is a fierce burning. I believe God controlled the heat on the brazen altar depending on what was on it, the way that thing was constructed and the amount of air that would flow in through the bottom.
And when it comes to the burnt offering and the meal offering, the peace offering, and all the fat from all the different animals which God called sweet, he says you're going to burn that really slow.
And it's almost like God is going to hover over the brazen altar and just, that's my son. Fat is all the energies, all the perfections of that animal is all going absolutely free of everything. And it's just, what's happening?
God is getting his portion first. That's the great truth of propitiation. Sometimes the young people, we say these words, we don't tell them what they mean, but when you're in the New Testament, everything springs from the truth of propitiation.
You couldn't have salvation without propitiation. You couldn't have forgiveness of sins, redemption, reconciliation, on and on and on it goes, adoption. Propitiation is 100 God word. The tabernacle system started out with what?
God's getting everything. That's why he can receive something from these people full of failure. He's already got something that speaks of Christ. What did we find with the morning burnt offering? A lamb.
Then you had another one in the evening. Do you know what the Jewish rabbis will tell you? What time in the morning do you think the burnt offering was done? What time do you think the burnt offering was done in the evening?
Nine in the morning, three in the afternoon. Six hours. Did you notice what it was called? A continual burnt offering. Even though it's two animals, you would say that's two sacrifices. That's two offerings, two burnt offerings.
No, even though it's separated by six hours, what does God say? It's a continual burnt offering. Dear child of God, do we grasp the value of God's son to himself? That's why we're saved. God is not looking at me.
God's heart, God's eyes are completely occupied with the burnt offering aspect of his son. That's why the brazen altar. Do you know what God said to the children of Israel? Think of the years that they hauled that thing around through the desert, up into the promised land.
You know what God said? One of the laws of the burnt offering? Don't let the fire go out. Never let that fire out. And every morning, put a young lamb on that that speaks of Christ. Every night, put a young lamb that speaks of Christ right around the clock.
There is something out front that's just constantly burning to God, and it's ascending up to the God of heaven. That's why God could be at home in the holies of holies. He's not looking at the performance of the people.
He's looking at what speaks of his son. Now, when it comes to the morning, it's very fascinating to do a study of ashes in the Bible. As they wake up in the morning, the things are burning down. There's a lovely study of the wood offering.
How in the world did they get all this wood in the desert? Fascinating study. There was somebody, there was a group of people, and all these things were valuable to God. If they ran out of wood, the fire went out.
And there's somebody working constantly, bringing all of this wood. And there, the priest, right in the morning, we're told this, Leviticus chapter 1, he would put fresh wood on the fire. And those embers that were burning down, all of a sudden, they'd start to kindle up again, getting ready for a fresh lamb.
Do you know what he would do before he put the wood on? He would take a shovel full of embers, glowing embers. It speaks of a sacrifice that has been accepted, a work that has satisfied God. And then he would carefully take that every morning, every night, and he would walk in to the tabernacle.
He'd go right through the holy place, right up to that veil. Right behind that veil is God. And there's that little golden altar. It's the highest and the smallest vessel in the tabernacle. Speaks of worship.
Speaks of the resurrection of Christ. You know, brethren, we don't preach enough of the resurrection of Christ. We preach a lot about the death, but we don't emphasize enough the resurrection. I'm thankful for a living Savior in heaven.
He's there for me. He's there for you. And they would take those fresh coals, and they would put a fresh supply, morning and night, on that golden altar. I didn't have time to read later in chapter 30, where there was four different components brought together, spices, and they were beaten small and ground small.
And he would, every morning and every night, once he put those fresh coals on that golden altar, he would take a fresh supply of that fragrance, incense, and he'd put it on top of those burning coals.
Do you know what would happen? While the flame out in the brazen altar, consuming the animal, was just going up in its fullness, and God is satisfied, connected to that, there's a fresh supply of incense just filling the tabernacle.
The sacrifice of Christ is, from my perspective, 2 ,000 years old, but the God in heaven is fresh. It's like it's happening right now. That's why I can approach Him. That's why I don't need to look at myself and start to say, oh, I'm not doing this.
That's what the flesh wants. Get occupied with self. Try self-help. Motivate yourself. Do you know what will drive us? Christ. You don't need rules. You don't need regulations. You don't need someone coming along saying, do this, do that, do that.
Get occupied with your Savior. Just get aside God the Father as that fragrance is just ascending morning and night, and it's just, what a person. Brethren, that's the way to worship. Don't turn it into a sermon, a little pinpointer, you know.
Just fall in love with your Savior. He's everywhere in the Bible. You'll not read a page where He's not on that page somewhere. So while all that's going on, you got this fresh sacrifice, fresh wood, fresh fire.
You've got these fresh coals, fresh incense. The fragrance is filling. It's speaking of Christ. It's smelling like Christ. What's happening now, morning and night? There's that seven-headed lampstand.
Fresh oil. Yeah. And then He goes, it's beautiful. You'll read about a golden snuff dish. It's like a pair of golden scissors with a little golden basket. And you know what a wick looks like. And as the fire burns down, you get this blackened stuff.
And what happens, you know, you got to put oil in there and the oil is being drawn up, but it's kind of being impeded. And as you leave it unattended, the light kind of comes down every morning and every night.
God says, you go over there and you just carefully cut off a little bit of that spent wick. Don't throw it on the ground. Turn it. It's precious to me. Speaks of my son. I am the light of the world. Thank God.
There was no natural light in the tabernacle. No. It was all coming from the candlestick that shone over against itself and it illuminated all of the priests to be able to do what they did. And while all the fire is increasing, the incense is creasing.
There's the priest doing his maintenance morning and night and the light just, my dear child of God, it all speaks of Him. I'm not going to apologize for smiling and getting a little worked up because I'm not saved because of me.
I am not accepted because of me. I'm accepted because of the infinite worth of the Lord Jesus Christ. The father will never come to a point where he falls out of love with his son. We're saved eternally, dear child of God.
Stop looking at yourself. Look where God is looking. Now there's one thing I want to leave you with. Go to Numbers chapter 28. This is precious to me. This is one other thing that was done morning and evening and this is very, very unique.
Numbers 28, this will give us more instruction when it comes to the daily morning and night. I quickly mentioned it from chapter 29, what's called the drink offering. Now, while you're turning Numbers 28, the drink offering existed before the tabernacle structure.
You'll read about drink offerings. Well, what is the drink offering? Well, just like this container has water in it, there would be the burnt offering on whatever altar they would have built just prior to the tabernacle structure and a person gives an animal.
And maybe somebody would come along and they would just fill a glass full of wine. I'm just gonna pour it on top of the brazen altar. It would be looked upon as a little tiny addition. The animal's the big thing.
There it is. This is like a little extra. I'll just give God a little bit extra. All right. Now, when you come into the tabernacle structure, God says every morning I want a drink offering and every evening I want a drink offering.
But whatever you do, don't put it on the brazen altar. Nope. They did that with other drink offerings. On this particular day, every day, this is going to speak of Christ. Look at this. Numbers chapter 28 and look at verse number four, just to pick up the thread from Exodus.
The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning. Okay, we read that. And the other lamb shalt thou offer at evening. And then we continue there. Verse six, it is continual burnt offering. Look at verse seven.
And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of a hymn for the one lamb in the holy place. In the holy place. Ooh. Shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured onto the Lord for a drink offering.
Every morning, every night, you got the fire increasing, you got the light increasing, you got the incense increasing, and all of a sudden you see a priest come with a drink offering. He walks by the brazen altar.
He walks by the laver. He goes into the holy place. He goes by the candlestick. He goes by the showbread. He comes right up to the veil as close as he can get. He doesn't pour it on the golden altar. He goes to the side of the golden altar.
You know what he does? Right in the presence of God pours out wine. Morning and night. What does it speak of? It's what an animal couldn't show. An animal had to be dragged to the altar. An animal was ignorantly pushed, taken, brought, whatever words you want to use.
We read it this morning. We didn't have time to touch it in our Bible study because he had poured out his soul unto death. There was something that God had done every morning and every evening that pictured the willingness of his son.
Just full obedience. You could put something in a vessel and pour it. It offers no resistance. Animals couldn't show that. Incense couldn't show that. The fire couldn't show that. And here is God year after year after year after year.
You might think, did he ever get sick of these streams of animals and gallons of blood? God didn't. Because every time it happened his mind went to his son. Look at the obedience of my son. What a beautiful person.
Dear child of God, I end with this. Behold my servant. Get your eyes full of him and just let him become your confidence because we are accepted in the well-beloved. Copper, the brazen altar up front.
