Regarding My Video on The Racist Mom at Target

An apology to Jasmine Holmes and to everyone else.
- 00:00
- Well, so I wanted to just quickly record this You know, there's a there's there's a a scene in the office where where Stanley says
- 00:14
- I do not apologize unless I think I'm wrong and That's me.
- 00:19
- I I I I I Refuse to apologize for something that I shouldn't apologize for just because somebody expects it.
- 00:26
- I don't think that's very helpful I think it's counterproductive I think it's disingenuous, but I do have something to apologize for and it was my video
- 00:34
- About the Jasmine Holmes tweet, which when you look at the video, it's really more about the comments to the tweet but I did spend like the first five minutes talking about the tweet itself and I did something
- 00:46
- I shouldn't have done. I did something wrong And I did it for a wrong reason.
- 00:53
- So there's really no excuse for it's not like I had good intentions And I just made a mistake or something like that I did it intentionally and what
- 01:00
- I did was I made it ambiguous as to whether or not I believed Jasmine's Holmes story like that.
- 01:07
- It actually happened to her in one set in one sentence. I said I did believe it, but who cares?
- 01:12
- I mean, that's that's the whole premise of the video but in other sentences in other sentences that I said
- 01:18
- I said that there's probably some truth to those that are questioning the veracity of the tweet itself
- 01:23
- So that was ambiguous because on the one hand I said I believed it on the other hand I said I didn't believe it Those are contradictory, right?
- 01:29
- And so what I was doing was I was intentionally obfuscating otherwise known as a lie
- 01:36
- What I believed about the tweet and that was wrong. I shouldn't have done that Now what's worse is that I did it in order to be able to still yuck it up sort of with some of the naysayers that didn't believe the veracity of the
- 01:49
- Stories and that that's extra that's extra wrong. You know, that's not something that I should have done. That was
- 01:55
- An example of sort of piling on or sort of preaching to the choir in a bad way that I just should not have done and I'm sorry for it and you know, luckily
- 02:06
- Certainly seems like Mrs. Holmes is a very gracious person
- 02:11
- She's reached out to me to offer more information about it Potentially clarify her original tweet and I'm gonna definitely take her up on that for sure a couple of you guys have you know that like me have also reached out to me and said that there were some inappropriate things in that video itself and Believe it or not.
- 02:30
- This has happened before this has happened before and I always take that seriously anyway, so I am sorry for intentionally
- 02:40
- Obfuscating whether or not I believed Mrs. Holmes tweet and let me just clear the air here, right?
- 02:46
- So let me clear the air here I one of the unfortunate effects of what I did yesterday.
- 02:52
- Is that I can make it seem like this kind of stuff doesn't happen and I know it does and It's not just I know because people have told me like this kind of thing the kind of thing that Jasmine Mentioned or tweet has happened to me, right?
- 03:07
- So I've been privy to People doing racist stuff like this
- 03:13
- I've been called racial slurs. I've been followed around stores because I wasn't white
- 03:18
- I've been all like this stuff has happened to me So not for I don't for a second want to make it seem like when somebody says a racist story
- 03:28
- That you shouldn't believe that story that was wrong. I don't want to put that impression out there
- 03:34
- In fact in many videos I've talked about how this stuff has happened and does continue to happen
- 03:40
- So I'm sorry for that that impression that I gave that's completely it not only is it inappropriate, but it's just wrong
- 03:47
- It's it's just sinful and the reasons that I did it We're also sinful because I wanted to yuck it up with some people that I like And you know that was that was what
- 03:59
- I did and that's just that's just all there is to it Now I'm gonna hear I'm actually gonna be speaking with a few people including mrs.
- 04:08
- Holmes About this issue and there might be other things that I end up apologizing for But maybe not we'll see so the video that you just finished watching.
- 04:19
- I actually had recorded prior And since then I've actually spoken with Jasmine Holmes about all of this and let me just say this at the outset she seems like a
- 04:29
- Super gracious lady no question about it So I'm very grateful for the chance.
- 04:35
- I had to speak with her and what I wanted to do I wanted to upload this video to make this public and I asked her if I could
- 04:42
- And she said yes, so and the reason why I wanted to do that is because my words Obviously, I I should not have thrown shade her way and made it seem like maybe she just made up this story
- 04:52
- I shouldn't have done that to her specifically But also the impression my words gave and I'm taking full responsibility for this
- 04:59
- This is something I did intentionally so I could joke around a little bit Would be that when stories like this come out, you know, we should just not believe them automatically and that's that's that's
- 05:11
- That's not the impression that I should be trying to make, you know I think that it's very
- 05:17
- I've never believed that racist stuff doesn't happen. You know this whole incident at Target I Even though I stand by what
- 05:25
- I said in the video as far as it not being that big of a deal I still I do say still I do still believe that I mean 80 % of that video
- 05:32
- I think is correct But I should not have questioned the veracity of this of the incident itself
- 05:39
- Like I know that kind of stuff happens. It's happened to me And so I've never believed that racist stuff doesn't happen
- 05:46
- And so so when somebody says something racist happened like, you know I'm not saying you should just automatically believe them, but you shouldn't automatically not dismiss them either obviously and so my words
- 05:58
- Like I said, I did this intentionally so I could joke around My words might make it seem like I don't believe that racist stuff happens
- 06:06
- And so I wanted to apologize publicly as well because there are probably people that Took my words and they said man, like what what why doesn't he believe me?
- 06:15
- You know and and the reality is that I do believe this that this kind of stuff happens. And so I'm sorry for You know the carelessness of my words
- 06:27
- Making it seem like I don't believe that racist stuff happens and I don't believe you if you say something racist happens
- 06:34
- So I'm sorry for that. And so that's why I wanted to make this more of a public apology as well Anyway, I hope this video was helpful.
