Deuteronomy chapter 6 verse 1 says, now this is the command, the statutes and the rules that the Lord God commanded to teach you. What is this command? This is very essential because there's much debate between modern day Judaism and the Judaism that we would see in the Old Testament.

This would be very essential to the differences between Judaism and Christianity. When we look at chapter 6 verse 4, you end up seeing that we saw that God is one, but then afterwards, verse 5 says, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might.

Jesus’ Answer to the Scribe in Mark 12

And we as Christians would hold to that and say that is the greatest commandment. We see that this is exactly what was asked of Jesus. In Mark chapter 12, a scribe comes to him and asks him, what is the greatest commandment?

Which commandment is most important? And when you look at that, he answers with that very part of Deuteronomy. It is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul. It is a heart issue.

Why Christians See This as the Greatest Commandment

We would see that as Christians, that the issue is to be fully in love with God, with all of our being. However, that is not the way that modern Judaism would interpret this passage. No, no, no.
