This is why abortion is still legal. Acceptance of a powerless gospel. The proclamation of the Christian gospel message is the weapon that Christ has given his people to wield against the world. But the message we hear today has been so badly truncated that it doesn't in any way resemble the gospel preached by the apostles or the giants of the faith before us that toppled empires and built Christian civilizations.

The Truncated Gospel of Easy Believism

Nowadays, the gospel is presented a little something like this. Do you want to go to heaven? Then you should repeat this prayer. Ask Jesus in your heart and you'll be saved. The gospel that Jesus and the apostles preached was about repentance and faith.

Christ says in Luke 24 that it's repentance for the forgiveness of sins that should be preached to all the nations, which sounds very different from the God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life type of message we hear given in our churches today.

Or that Jesus died not only to make your life better, but to make you better at life. These are far cries from the authentic biblical message of God is holy. We're sinners under his wrath and we need to repent and believe in a hurry.

Why a True Gospel Matters for Abortion

The failure of our churches to preach the true uncompromising gospel is a fundamental reason why women end up on the doorsteps of an abortion facility. You see, the true gospel brings true hope because it communicates who God is and our need to be reconciled to him and given peace.

It doesn't sand off the rough edges and unpleasant parts about God and what he requires of us all. It says that an abortion minded woman, for example, is accountable to him. She's a moral agent and she needs to throw herself at his feet for mercy.

The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Darkness

But there's more. It's not just the message of repentance and faith that's been surrendered in our day. It's the good news of the kingdom. Christ didn't just come to save individual sinners, but to bring the rule of God into the world and reconcile all things to himself, subduing every enemy, even death.

What makes this good news good is that the Bible presents one of two kingdoms, kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. And the kingdom of light is God's rule and reign. And those who are in his kingdom are only there because he's transferred them from the dominion of darkness into the freedom of the children of light, his church, his bride, his people.

There is people that bring about the advancement of his purposes in the world. So the good news of the kingdom is not just about having your sins forgiven. It's about eternal life now and the participation of Christ, putting an end to sin, death and Satan and subjecting the callings of our lives to serve this end, which is why all of us were created to worship God and to enjoy him forever.

Proclaiming the Gospel in the Fight Against Abortion

This is the gospel we need to proclaim in the area of abortion.
