I want their faith to not just be something that stands but something around which culture can be built.
00:07
We want students who can think critically about arguments but also about the culture around them that can then speak clearly to it and that also have the ability to influence and shape because of the power of their message because that's really what the gospel does the gospel throws down all the arguments against it it speaks to the hearts of people it influences and it changes.

Alright, welcome back everybody. Next speaker, Jeff Durbin. I am Jeff Durbin. That is Luke the Bear. What's up, man? What is up?
00:53
Hey, so welcome. Thank you. Another week. What'd you think of the Peter Jones interview? He's awesome.
00:59
He's amazing, isn't he? Very amazing. I like his accent, too. Absolutely. Anybody has a British accent automatically sounds smarter than us.
01:05
He's got like a hint of Scottish in it. It does. It's strong, though. It's strong.
01:11
Strong with him. It's strong. I totally thought that it was a joke like it's one of those like, you know, party jokes.
01:16
Yeah, you know, John Lennon, school, Lennon and almost a beetle. Apparently, it's no lie.
01:22
Nope, it's not. He seems kind of like, do you think, like he's so chill and low -key because he knows how awesome his past is.
01:31
He's like, I don't have to impress anybody else. Yeah, I think so. He's almost a beetle. He doesn't. What else is there? Right.
01:36
Like if I start here. Right. It's only up from there. That's right. So, we'll get into the oneist and twoist mindset stuff.
01:45
Important stuff. I think that I think he's nailed it and it's not like it's it's Peter Jones and some very fascinating, unique, new way that he's seeing things.
01:54
He's just taking biblical, right, theology and perspective about the world and he's essentially distilling it and saying this is it.
02:02
See everything through this lens and that's the lens that scripture gives us. Right. Oneist and twoist. I remember when
02:07
I first started seeing people talk about oneism, twoism. I was like, what is that? Like, what is that? And then as he talked about it,
02:13
I was like, oh my goodness, he's nailed it. He really has. And it's interesting too because we are gonna critique the film
02:20
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino's new film, where it sort of goes back to 1968 -69 and it has some of the
02:28
Manson cult associated with it. But in that film itself, I don't know if you caught this, in the film when it introduces the
02:35
Manson cult members as they're coming down the street, the women are singing the song.
02:41
Do you remember the song they were singing? I'm trying to remember. It was about all is one. Oh, right. Everything is one.
02:46
It'll all be okay as long as everything is one. All is one. Everything is one. And that was the mindset of that cult and many cults.
02:54
And I thought that was interesting because that's sort of what Dr. Jones is getting at. Yeah. I can't say
02:59
Dr. Jones, by the way, without thinking about Indiana. Oh, that's funny. I wouldn't, I hadn't even thought,
03:05
I kept having the Counting Crows in my head all day. Mr. Jones and me? Dr.
03:10
Jones and me. That's what I've been singing in my head all day, yeah. Okay. But that's funny. Indiana Jones is good. Yeah, okay.
03:16
All right, so go ahead. You have something you want to talk about. Thank you. I'm just saying my wife is cringing right now because I'm just saying on TV.
03:24
So I found a story that made me laugh, but it's not that funny, but it's funny, but it kind of ties the room together.
03:31
So Bernie Sanders was at a Town Hall event in Myrtle Beach, I think this last week.
03:38
And there was a woman there that asked him if he'd be in support of a meat tax.
03:46
Meat tax? In order to help combat climate change. So she, so this is what she said.
03:54
She said, animal agriculture is to blame for the majority of climate change, and is the leading cause of deforestation, water and air pollution, and biodiversity loss.
04:06
So then she followed up by saying, would you be in support of a meat tax? And he seemed, he seemed open to it.
04:14
Apparently, Germany already has a similar sausage tax, trying to limit its consumption.
04:22
So they're taxing sausage, bacon, steaks, like. To lower the amount of sausage and bacon being eaten.
04:29
Yeah, it's ridiculous. By taxing it. Yeah. And so Bernie, he seemed open to it. He said that we need to tackle climate change in every area, including agriculture.
04:39
Interesting. So I was just, I saw it and I just kind of laughed. I was like, that's just stupid. But that's, that's what we're up against.
04:45
We're, we're people talking about one -ism. We're all one. They're worshipping the earth. They're worshipping the creation.
04:51
Exactly. Just Romans 1. And so they're willing to make us pay more money to have meat.
04:57
Right. In order to save the planet. Yeah. So I think the mindset behind taxation on that level is, if, if, if we want to, to, to get our way somewhere, then we'll penalize people by stealing from them.
05:12
Right. So we just threatened, we threatened them with theft. Right. Well, if you do that, then I'm going to steal money from you.
05:18
Yeah. Right. Just so you know, sucker. If you eat meat. Yeah. I'm going to steal money from you. Right. So we think about even our own nation and the kind of battle and like mindset we come from, people were throwing tea over into water because of like tax on one item that was like small percentage.
05:35
Like how dare you 2 %? Are you out of your mind? Like it's like one thing. And now we're like taxation on everything you purchase.
05:43
It's high taxation. And then it's also income tax. And then it's, uh, I saw some, I think
05:48
I told you the other day, I saw somebody the other day, a friend on, on Facebook, they had gotten a toll.
05:54
Um, uh, they had gotten, uh, you know, ran through a toll thing or whatever. So it was like a $4 charge.
06:00
I think it was Massachusetts. Uh, so it was a $4 charge toll booth thing. And so it was four bucks.
06:06
And then it had a listing of a bunch of other charges tacked on because you got, I gotcha the $4.
06:13
I gotcha. And because I gotcha on that, I'm also going to charge you the 20 some odd dollar, uh, first responders fee, uh, and then some other fee for like addiction.
06:22
And then some other fee, it ended up this $4 toll tax thing, uh, ended up being over a hundred something dollars because of all the other state interest stuff thrown, tacked on.
06:33
Was there still a Boston tea tax on Boston tea tax, Boston cream tax. That'd be nice.
06:39
Um, so I'd pay that by the way. Um, or you couldn't get me to stop eating Boston creams because you tax it.
06:45
No, I would just, I would just be really angry with a lot of cream on my lips. Be fat and broke.
06:52
Well, not much is different. Oh, okay. Uh, so, uh,
06:58
I don't know. Like if they're, if like they started taxing meat, I don't know if I could like throw bacon into the bay.
07:04
Like, no, I couldn't do it. That's like, yeah, you don't ever do that to bacon ever, ever. Um, so, okay.
07:10
So the, but the, the interesting thing is the, the mindset of, of the one is we're in the one ism thing and the idea of people are all part of the creation.
07:18
And I like what he said too, because that's one of the first things I heard when he was talking about it in his lecture, the one ism and two ism is it's not just the new age.
07:26
It's not just the weird hippie kind of stuff. Like we're all one. It is atheism because what do they believe that there's a
07:33
Genesis to the universe and it comes, you know, and all of us are part of that oneness of the universe.
07:38
There's no creator creature distinction. All is one. Even in atheism, we're all part of the same cosmos and we're all part of the, you know, we came out of the soup and fish and, you know, and then sort of growing legs and African apes and all the rest, but we're all part of this one universal consciousness, man.
07:57
And it was really funny because, um, uh, this, this is something that I've, I've of course always taught my kids, raising them in a
08:03
Christian home with a Christian worldview is a distinction between the way the world thinks about creation and the way that we think is, you know,
08:10
God's made everything and he orders everything, carries it along. So my kids can spot really weird things too.
08:16
So we're in uh, doing our church plant stuff recently. It was super hot.
08:22
This is last weekend. It was super, super hot. Yes. And uh, so you, you were on a different part of town than I was.
08:30
I was going to get a drink of water with her at this sort of, um, this is where you can always find the new age people in Hawaii.
08:35
You find them at the natural food stores and there's all the stuff of yoga, Kundalini yoga and all the stuff.
08:43
Oh yeah. So that's the key. Yeah. So go to the story, grab the bottles of water, go to the counter and this woman behind the counter has far more armpit hair than I do.
08:52
So she's been working on it. She's trying to win a prize. Um, and she's talking to the woman in front of me at the counter and we sort of happened upon this conversation there in the middle of, and they're talking about like the earth and the environment and all this stuff.
09:06
And I overheard this conversation with sort of my 14 year old, the woman, uh, with, uh, the armpit
09:13
Afros, she's, she's saying that the Amazon's on fire and she says about the
09:19
Amazon that the Amazon is the earth's lungs. She's like, it's the earth's lungs.
09:25
Everyone, you know, everyone knows that. And she's, you know, and so she's like, and she goes, and I totally believe like, bro, like the, the earth's like on fire, like the
09:36
Amazon, the lungs are on fire because the earth is just processing a lot of grief. It's processing a lot of grief right now.
09:43
And so it's on fire. And so I didn't know if my daughter like really heard or had too much concern for what you're saying.
09:49
So I paid for the water, you know, told her, thank you. Walked out. My daughter's like, did you hear that really weird conversation?
09:55
I was like, yeah, I didn't know if you did. And she's like, yeah, it's that or, um, it caught on fire.
10:01
Yeah. And, uh, it's actually not even that it's the farmers, it's the farmers doing now explain that. Cause I, I just,
10:07
I don't know if you saw the link. It's actually really incredible. So it's just, they do this every year. Yeah. It's the, they're haven't cut any trees down.
10:15
It's the fields that they burn every single year to get the crop, the soil ready for crops. And it's actually burning less than it has in previous years.
10:25
Well, think about the impact of stupid human thinking, right. Unbiblical foolish human thinking.
10:32
When we have the onest mindset, all is one where there's no creator creature distinction, we end up valuing the creation at the expense of the image of God.
10:44
So what people will do is like, even it goes down to the meat tax discussion. Like what will we do?
10:49
We need to this, the creation is more important than image bearers of God. So what we'll do is we'll penalize and steal from image bearers of God to preserve the created order because, well, it was kind of here first and it's bigger than us and more important than us.
11:04
It's more important than image bearers of God. And so we'll penalize image, the image of God to, to rescue creation.
11:11
And so there's, there's this unbiblical mindset of ultimately the, the, the image of God is not as valuable as the universe and all of this stuff over here.
11:23
And so we'll even kill human beings at the expense, or we'll say things like what, like we, the earth cannot sustain more image bearers.
11:32
So stop having children. Right. That's also a onest mindset, a popular new age and humanist mindset.
11:39
All is one, the create, this, this order is more important than the image of God. Right. So stop having children because it's not good for, it's not good for the earth.
11:48
And you know, we don't need to, to do this farmers. What are they doing burning stuff to, to make crops?
11:54
What are you making crops for? Oh, to feed other image bearers of God. You don't need to do that. And like, you know, this that's the earth's lungs, bro.
12:02
Like, so so it's interesting because all of this, this mindset might seem foolish and stupid to some people, but then you have like very famous people like Leonardo DiCaprio, who's one of the most brilliant actors like ever believing such stupid things and propagating stupid things.
12:21
Like, you know, he's zigzagging all over the world. He's pumping out fumes out of his, his, his jets talking about like emissions.
12:28
Right. You know, like you had to stop saying like, do you realize what an idiot? Yeah. Like, do you know what that is?
12:35
Do you know what foolishness is? Because you codify it. And you know, you're trying to express to other people, you know, things about gases and emissions and the, the
12:44
Amazon. And you, you know, so very little about what's actually the case.
12:49
But if you have a biblical worldview, and this is what we're talking to Gordon Wilson about, if you have a biblical worldview, you actually can value the creation in a way that actually blesses creation, protects it, but doesn't do it at the expense of the image of God.
13:03
So like, if you have a biblical worldview, you can see the creator creation distinction properly, and you can put
13:10
God's image in the proper place in that order. And you could say creation is very valuable and we're called to steward it, to take dominion over it, to cultivate it, to make it beautiful, to actually protect it in many ways.
13:22
But also we do that without actually destroying the image of God and the interests of the image of God in the world.
13:30
And we also don't fret with the biblical worldview that God's not in control.
13:36
And somehow the earth is just going to spin out into oblivion because we have the proper perspective that God is sovereign over the creation.
13:43
We don't have the mindset that the New Agers and the atheists have, that we're all spinning in this universe all by our lonesome, and it's up to us to save the planet.
13:53
Well I think, I always say this a lot, but we've become what we worship, right? So we're created in God's image, so we're created to have a desire, an innate desire to worship something.
14:04
So we have an objectively true standard of worship. We worship
14:10
Christ. Our eschatology, if you have a correct eschatology, is that Christ is victorious.
14:16
And so that's what we worship, and that's our eschatology, that's our hope that Christ will be victorious.
14:22
They're worshipping the earth, and ultimately their eschatology is they hope that the earth will be victorious.
14:29
And there's all these doomsday prophecies in their camp right now, especially a lot. Their eschatology is, well the earth is going to completely fall apart in 15 years if we don't eliminate all fossil fuels, because that's what their worship leads to.
14:42
That's right. So we did, actually we had a show we did with Gordon Wilson recently. If you're on this channel right now,
14:48
Apologia Studios on YouTube, you can go watch that show. It's beneath here in the videos. You can see it. Interestingly, we're having a much harder time for people to see our content because of all the censorship and all the suppression of video and all the rest.
15:02
Interesting thing here too is when we first put the video up with Wilson, I used language that conservatives would use that I thought was safe.
15:10
The video was actually demonetized because we were using too much Christian or conservative language.
15:16
You said global warming. I used the word global warming, which people don't use anymore. It's climate change.
15:21
So what I did was I saw that it was demonetized and nobody now was going to see it. So I went and changed the language around and I called it climate change and saving the planet.
15:30
And YouTube said, we like that. We're going with that. So they demonetized it back because I used language that the other side would use.
15:39
But anyways, in that video, you'll see Pastor Luke and I talk with Gordon Wilson and he talks about a biblical perspective of looking at creation itself and the preservation of creation because we ought to care about it.
15:52
Just being a good steward. That's right. And if you have a biblical eschatology and you have a long -term view of the future, you will actually have a very solid perspective of, well, we're going to be here for a long time.
16:06
So we should actually cultivate and care for creation in a way that doesn't engage in the worship of creation, but the worship of God in the honor of God.
16:16
It's a great episode and encourage everyone to take a look at that. Don't forget to go to truthxchange .com. That's truthxchange .com.
