179. The Case For A Preterist Supersessionism Part 3 (The Romans 11 Case)
SUMMARY
Romans 11 is the bunker where every futurist, dispensationalist, and Zionist retreats when the rest of the New Testament has already dismantled their system. It’s treated like a theological panic room—an escape hatch that supposedly shields modern Israel-centric schemes from scrutiny. But in this episode, we show that Romans 11 is not their refuge at all; it is their grave. Paul is not confused, not contradicting himself, and not resurrecting Old Covenant categories he already buried in Romans 2 and 9. He is describing his own generation: the hardening and cutting off of unbelieving Israel, the first-century grafting of Jews and Gentiles into one tree, the fullness of the Gentiles within the Roman world, and the covenantal end of the Old Covenant age in AD 70.This episode uncovers how Romans 11 explains the real “end of the world” the New Testament talks about—not the destruction of the planet, but the end of the Mosaic world and the rise of the true Israel of God. We explore why the olive tree is not “the Jews,” why “all Israel” refers to the elect remnant, why the fullness of the Gentiles is a first-century reality, and what kind of world we now inhabit since the Old Covenant world has ended—a world where Christ reigns now, the kingdom grows now, and the nations are being discipled now.

BIG IDEAS YOU’LL HEAR
There is only one Israel in Paul’s theology: Jew and Gentile united to Christ, the true Jew, by faith. The olive tree is not a dormant Israel waiting for a modern reboot; it is the living, first-century people of God being pruned and grafted in real time. The “fullness of the Gentiles” is a first-century reality in the Roman world, not a never-ending countdown to the last Gentile on earth.“All Israel” refers to the elect remnant within Israel, saved in the very manner Paul describes, before the Old Covenant world is torn down.AD 70 is not a random historical tragedy; it is the covenantal end of the Old World Moses built and the visible dawn of the world Christ is now ruling and filling.Zionism asks you to resurrect what God has buried and divide the one people of God into two; Romans 11 forbids it and exalts Christ as the one root, one Lord, and one covenant Head of His people.
NEXT WEEK – PART 4 TEASER
In the next episode, we will expose exactly what you lose when you adopt the lie of Zionism. We will walk through the doctrines that begin to crumble: doctrine of God, Christ, covenant, the people of God, the kingdom, the church, baptism, mission, and eschatology. Zionism does not just twist a few verses; it eats away at the foundations of Christian theology, and we will name those areas one by one.

Well, hello there prod casters and prod squatters, I just wanted to come to you with a little bit of an intro today it's not something
I normally do but These verses that we're gonna be talking about or verses that people use like theological escape hatches when their system starts
Collapsing all around them under the weight of exegesis and hermeneutics They they flee to these verses and they clutch them like like with white knuckles
And they insist that they create a kind of untouchable System of thought that we would identify as Zionism Romans 11 is
The biggest of the biggest hiding places for this way of thinking it is the bunker of every futurist
It is the last trench of every dispensation list. It's the final foxhole where every
Zionist scurries When the New Testament has already
Undone their theology, but here's the problem Romans 11 can't be their refuge
It's not their safe room. It's not a Theological panic button that they can use to get out of trouble
Romans 11 is the very chapter that exposes every one of the
Zionist tendencies as untenable unbiblical and even historically
Impossible and the irony is really sharp here the text that Zionism depends on most the text that people say
Yes Israel is gonna have an end time future revival Yes, the Jews are gonna have this and the
Jews are gonna have that and it's all gonna be in Norton about national Israel Yes, they have a special covenant status that very passage
Is gonna be the text that we use today to destroy that very message This chapter of Romans 11
Dismantles futurism and it levels to the ground all of the claims that are that are propagated by Zionists because Paul was not confused about what he was saying
Paul was not contradicting himself about what he was saying. Paul did not spend as you will see in a moment 10 chapters tearing down the
Old Covenant categories Only to build them back up again in a single paragraph in Romans 11
He's not smuggling into Romans 11 genealogy when he's already crucified that in chapters 2 and 9
Paul was explaining What was happening in his own generation that he saw with his own eyes?
he was explaining the hardening of the Jews the pruning of the apostates and the
In -gathering of the elect both Jew and Gentile into one Israel of God the
Covenantal people of God that Jesus prophesied was going to happen in 40 years
Romans 11 in that way is not a riddle. It's not a code. It's not a puzzle
That's waiting for modern -day prophecy shamans to interpret it Romans 11 is clear Romans 11 is precise and Romans 11 has a first century fulfillment
So when we look at it today, I want you to understand that Paul is going to speak for himself
We're not going to have on any Zionist goggles We're not gonna have any futurist assumptions.
We're not gonna have any kind of sentimental commitment to a modern nation -state who hates
God and spits in the face of Christ and By the time we're done if we let
Paul if we let Paul speak for himself And if we let the Bible speak for itself by the time we're done
Romans 11 will not be the chapter that saves Zionism It will be the one that crucifies it now with that said it's time for us to get to work
Hello everyone, and welcome back to the broadcast where we prod the sheep and beat the wolf this episode 179 a preterist supersessionism
Romans 11 well, hello
Everybody and welcome back to the broadcast. This is a big one today
It's one of the most controversial passages in the Bible It's right up there with any of the top passages that have really caused consternation.
It's passage is misinterpreted a lot So we're gonna look at it's Romans 11 But before we do that,
I want to begin by saying thank you to every single person Who listens to the show and who watches it and who shares it and who passes it along to their friends or maybe
You know sends it via carrier pigeon or whatever you do. Thank you so much for that Your support has been a real blessing
Thank you to every single person who has signed up to give financially to help support this show
I don't make any promises of perks because I think they're gimmicky. I tried that I was convicted by that I don't do extra content where we do extra episodes that only
Financial supporters get to see and the reason I don't do that is because I think the Bible should be free to everyone
No one should have to pay to get access to the Bible So I hate that and I'm never gonna do that.
So I don't I don't I don't give Special perks where you get to do meet and greets or anything
I think all that stuff is silly if you like the show and God is leading you to support the work
We'll praise God and and thank you for that I don't want to bait and switch people into giving just because we give some kind of cliche
Sort of gimmick or perk so we don't do that But if you want to support it and you want to help us reach more people
We say yes and amen and we say thank you to you. Your support is an amazing blessing now
I want to also say thank you to every single person who has supported this show by going to www .prodthesheep
.com Which is our online store there. I get to just be myself I get to be
I get to make funny humorous Reformed Christian content often with an eschatological spin and I get to do so because I just I like to do it
And thank you to everyone who supported this show by buying some of these shirts and sweatshirts and everything this month
We've got a limited edition sweatshirt, which is really cool It's that moment in church history where st.
Nicholas who we get st Nick Christmas Santa Claus all that from st.
Nick punched Arius in the face Yes, it happened in the Council of Nicaea Arius said that Jesus Christ was not
God and St. Nick cold cocked him right in the kisser for saying it
So we memorialize that with our Merry Christmas heretic Christmas shirt You can find that on prod the sheep comm and other great gear
So thank you to everyone who has supported us in that way and in the spirit of face walloping
Dunder ninnies. Yes. I made up that term, but I think it should be a term It's time for us to tackle one of the most important episodes
Yet and surely the most important episode in this series on super sessionism today we're going to summit to the heights of Romans 11 a chapter that everyone scurries to and their
Eschatology is collapsing. It's the last trench line of the futurism
It's it's the bunker where dispensationalism likes to hide It's the foxhole where the dual covenant folks make their final stand and it's the dim cave where Zionism Scurries when the rest of their system has been
Exposed every modern -day Israel centric a pack
Ted Cruz Ian scheme leans on this chapter Clinging to the phrase that all
Israel will be saved as if Paul was promising a future National revival to a modern secular state called
Israel and that if we could somehow just find a way to bless the Jews Then we would then we would be blessed and today.
We're going to show how that is absolutely false and as Is usually the case the problem isn't with scripture or with Paul or with anything like that?
The problem comes when people bring their own theological lenses To the
Bible when they strap on a particular lens and then they start reading Paul through that lens well, it changes
Paul and That gets them into no less than a few squirrely doctrinal positions by doing that we call that Isis now nowhere.
Is that kind of? Isagetical method the a priori assumption the bringing your glasses to the text more evident and more more visceral even than on the view of Israel because so many pastors so many professors so many authors so many teachers over the last 150 years can accurately and faithfully preach a sermon on the gospel, but when you come to Israel they've got their
Zionist bifocals on and they read Romans 11 as if it's the Old Covenant people and the
Old Covenant realities that are still alive and well and kicking They treat
Israel kind of like it was cryogenically frozen Sure, it's not moving right now, but whenever God decides to dethaw it then it's gonna come back to life
Then it's gonna get its temple again. Then we're gonna have a red heifer then we're gonna and all that That's the way that Zionist and futurists.
Look at the Old Covenant. It's just in a 2 ,000 year cryogenic siesta and One day when
God teleports the church to heaven Well, the Jews are gonna get their temple groove back
But in the meantime, we better not say a crossword about the Jews because God loves them more than he loves you
He's putting up with you for 2 ,000 years until he gets his Jews back And while no one's really saying it that way that is exactly what they're saying
If you dare to speak a sideways statement against modern -day Israel Which is a godless secular state that murders more infants per capita than almost anywhere else on earth
That that that's just a God hating Christian hating even Christian persecuting nation
Well, if you say a sideways word against them, then God is going to curse you because The sad reality is you and I according to that system are just the bastard child of God The church is sort of the side piece the church was
Jesus's backup date to the prom and He will ditch her and put her aside as soon as the girl that he really wanted to say.
Yes, finally does say yes and While I'm clearly being a little extra with these examples here
This is the logical end of the view that there is a future
Covenantally speaking for the people of Israel Because if you do that you have to allow two covenants to be running alongside by side in some way and That's just not what the
Bible says. So with that We're going to get into this episode and this episode
Exists really to put an end to the confusion that seems to be happening these days
I would love if this episode or someone else made something that that helped turn the narrative to help turn the
Awareness of this topic around so that so that yeah, we can support Israel if we want to from a government standpoint
Yeah, we can support them if we want to from a geopolitical standpoint but we don't support them because we think that they're the future that they're the people of God and that they have a
Future covenantally speaking if we bless Israel will be but we don't we don't support them for that reasons
We can make a decision as a nation who we support and who we make alliances with and we can do that based off of You know, whether it's advantageous for us.
I'm certainly in America first kind of person I I think if you live in Zimbabwe, you should be a
Zimbabwe first kind of person I mean nation should care for themselves first but Today, I I hope that this episode and I hope that the conversations that I'm seeing going on right now in the world and on X and everywhere else that are that are really raising the
Temperature on this issue. I'm really hoping that they help I'm really hoping that they bring clarity to the church because that's what the broadcast exists for is to help bring clarity to Jesus Church so with that,
I Really need to say if this is your first time and your first time watching.
I want to say welcome to you Thank you for being here. This is part three in a multi -part series on a doctrine called
Supercessionism don't let that word mess you up It just means that we don't believe that Israel has a permanent covenant status with God So if you're here it's your first time go back and listen to episodes 1 & 2 because they're gonna be really helpful for you to see where we're
At and to get the context for where we've been going and if you've been here the whole time
Welcome back. Welcome to this episode and we're gonna begin by talking about part one
Defining Israel the way Paul does Now if you want Romans 11 to speak clearly then you actually have to begin where Paul begins
Not where modern theologians begin and not where nostalgic Evangelicalism begins and certainly not where dispensationalism begins if you want
Romans 11 to make any sense Then you have to understand that Romans 11 is
Not Paul's first word on Israel. It's in fact his last
And what I mean by that is that he is already defined who Israel is twice in the book of Romans and And here's the thing
Paul is not like us He's not steeped in a kind of modern -day tik -tok culture with ADHD Expecting his readers not to remember what he just said five seconds ago
Paul actually is steeped in a world who could carry a an Attention span forward throughout maybe even 11 chapters and understand what he's saying the tragedy for us, however, and Especially the futurist reading is that they don't do this
They forget what Paul said about the Jews in earlier definitions and they smuggle in their own
Meaning into the text and then they force this meaning upon the Apostle and they make
Paul Contradict himself They make him contradict both his his own theology and his own argument that he gave beforehand
They they do the equivalent of when someone you know Like someone gives an interview and then they chop up and splice the video to make it look like they said something
Really bad and really inappropriate. It's just because they spliced it a certain way They didn't actually add the context of what that person was actually saying
Which is why if we are gonna honor what Paul says we can't splice him up We have to look at what he says in Romans 2 in Romans 7 and Romans 11 to understand who
Paul Thinks that the Jews are and if we let Paul define Israel on his own terms
Well, the meaning actually gets much thicker and richer Than what we thought
Paul's first definition of Israel Arrives in Romans chapter 2 and it is nothing short of astounding
He tells us plainly three things about who Israel is number one He says that he is not a
Jew who is one outwardly He's saying that if you're a Jew and you're only a
Jew outwardly, you're not a Jew Fascinating then he says that circumcision is not about the flesh
Interesting again meaning circumcision is about the spirits what he's saying and then number three He says that true covenant
Identity is a matter of the heart wrought by the Spirit of God that is submitted to the Son of God to the glory of God with one spirit inspired paragraph in Romans 2 28 through 29
Paul severs the connection between Covenant membership and biological bloodlines.
He's saying Israel as he understands it is not about human generation but about regeneration
See the dividing wall for Paul and the rest of the New Testament is not race but renewal the marker of the people of God is not circumcision of their foreskin but circumcision of their heart and once Paul makes that declaration that true
Israel is a spiritual people and not a physical people Well, then any attempt to resurrect ethnic biological genetic hereditary
Israel is just an Attempt to try to roll back the stone on Jesus's tomb itself that he himself emptied
But the Apostles not finished in Romans 9 He sharpens the definition and he presses it even further saying not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel And he says it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God here
Paul removes any illusion whatsoever that national or gene and genealogical
Israel possesses any kind of Automatic standing with God based on their bloodlines.
They don't the true Israel according to Paul is Not the Israel of 21st century who live in the land and who despise
Jesus He's saying that the true Israel of God is the Israel of promise
It's the elect people of God the ones who were predestined before the foundation of the world
That means Moses. That means Jacob. That means Noah. That means Adam. That means you that means me if you are saved
What he's saying is this that Israel is the remnant Israel is the people who are called by God unto salvation
Israel is those people whose identity rests not in their physical lineage
To some sect or tribe that comes out of Adam But in the
God who grafted them by the Spirit into the second Adam Jesus So if you have union with Christ you are
Israel Which means that if you don't have union with Christ Even if you have bloodlines, even if you have circumcision, even if you have a
Shema Even if you have Torah, even if you have Passover, even if you have keep going on and on and on and on You are not
Israel the only way That you can be considered
Jewish in the Apostle Paul's mind is If you are connected to and in union with the true
Jew Jesus That's what gets you Jewishness is being connected to the true
Jew Jesus if you're not connected to him, you're not Jewish You're not Israel. That's Paul's theology
That is the framework across his entire book of Romans Romans 2 and Romans 9 that Informs what he says about the
Jews and Israel in Romans 11 That's the interpretive lens that he is demanding that we put on and read the
Bible through not the dispensational lens that people bring to the text and that means
Something truly unavoidable when we come to Romans 11 We cannot smuggle in our old covenant categories back into this text and pretend that Paul didn't just spend nine chapters
Redefining Israel only to abandon that definition at the very climax of his argument Paul doesn't do that Paul is a genius in the ancient world.
Paul is led by the Spirit of God to write these letters he's not going to compose 10 chapters of Argument in order just to abandon it flippantly in the 11th chapter and then somehow redefine the terms without telling us that he's done it doesn't make any sense and we
We cannot do What the liberals do to the text we cannot do what people who hate
God do to the text We cannot do what the homosexuals and lesbians and gays and queers and all of them do to the
Bible when they come to it They say when the Bible doesn't outlaw homosexuality Homosexuality, you know, we can't do that That's the same method that they use with the
Bible to say that oh, this isn't true We have to accept
Paul for what he says and what he says is that Israel is not a matter of the flesh
But it's a matter of the Spirit of God if we if we interpret it differently than that, we're doing the most
Uncharitable thing that anyone who is reading Paul could do which is making him contradict himself
And yet that is precisely what Zionist interpreters do they march into Romans 11?
They pull it out of context and they carry into it their ethnic assumptions that Paul has already crucified before and then they
Resurrect some kind of genealogical care category that Paul has already buried and then they insist that Paul must be speaking about a future return of National Israel, even though Paul has demolished that idea twice over and By doing it they reveal that they are not serious
Bible thinkers that they are not interested in the truth that they do not Have a proper hermeneutic and that they should not be trusted
Instead they are what Paul called in Galatians modern -day
Judaizers they're playing footsie with the devil and with his offspring because Jesus said that the first century
Jews in their Rejection of him were children of the devil So if we support people who say they are
Jews and they are not we are supporting men and women Who are from the synagogue of Satan?
People can accuse me of anti -semitism all you want I'm just using biblical terms Jesus said that they are descended from Satan Satan is their father
Abraham is not their father meaning that they are not Jews. They are satanic Jesus says in Revelation 2 that they are from the synagogue of Satan.
They say they're Jews, but they're not Paul says in Romans 2 that it's that it's not people who say that they're
Jews Outwardly, but it's those who are Jews inwardly all of this is showing us
That a Jew is someone who believes in Jesus and who's been grafted into him by the Spirit of God That's what a
Jew is. That's what a that's what a member of the people of Israel is That's why Paul in Galatians says that that we the church are the
Israel of God. That's not replacement theology And that's not anti -semitic. That's just what the Bible says and the
Bible has more authority than you So we got to believe it Once we let
Paul's definition stand the fog clears Instantly Israel the true
Israel is made up of both Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus That is the
Israel that Paul is defining in Romans 2 that is the Israel that he's identifying in Romans 9
And that is the Israel that he continues discussing in Romans 11. There's no category shift
There's no ethnic return. There's no biological revival There is no future national destiny.
There is only one Israel and it is the people who belong to Christ and let me just say this No one on earth today even knows if they are from Israel from the ancient people.
No one really knows because why? Because you knew that you were a member of Israel Biologically speaking by genealogical records guess what all the genealogical records were stored in the temple and they were burned to the ground
And there was another set of genealogical records that existed. They were in Alexandria God Maybe by sheer coincidence
Allowed those genealogical records to be burned down or maybe just maybe God said that these people who?
Continually focus on their bloodline need to be reminded that it's about one bloodline.
Not there's Jesus Jesus is the one whose bloodline matters He's the one that if you're in him if you've been marked by him if you've been painted with his blood if you were
In lineage to him, then you are Israel That is what Paul says.
That's what the rest of the scriptures say And now with that figured out now, it's time for us to move to part two
The olive tree is Israel not the Jews Now when
Paul brings up the olive tree metaphor he is swinging a theological Wrecking ball the moment.
He says if some of the branches were broken off Romans 11 17 He is shattering the
Zionist fantasy of an ethnic revival in some point in the future and you may ask how so well
Paul is not talking about Nations in this passage when he says that some of them have been broken off Paul is actually talking about individuals
Whose covenant life depends entirely upon their union with Christ So they were connected to the vine whenever the old covenant system was there
But when Jesus rose from the grave and they rejected Jesus they were cut off Because their covenant standing was now connected to whether or not they believed in Jesus Jesus is the trunk of the of the stump that was flattened.
He's the shoot that comes out he's the one you must be connected to and if you're not connected to him, you're not
Israel and They're cut out of the Covenant They're severed from the promises and they will drink the cup of God's enduring curses in 8070 because of their rejection to him
Because they did not kiss the Son and because they did not pay homage to him a
Psalm 2 asserts They were crushed by the rod of his iron. They were shattered like earth and where pots along the way the idea that they were removed from their covenant standing with God is
Central it's the central nervous system to what Paul is saying in Romans 11 and once Paul lays it down There's no room whatsoever for the
Jews to exist alongside the church. They're not the same group They don't have covenant standing
Jesus has one bride not two because Jesus is true and faithful not a
Mormon esque polygamist now What does Paul give us when he says that some of them were cut out?
Well, he gives us a tree He gives us a tree and that's it Not two trees not two peoples not two covenant tracks limping along beside each other until the end what he says
You being a wild olive branch were grafted in Among them
Romans 11 17, which means that there's a tree There's a tree that some can be cut off from and there's the tree that some that can be grafted in two
But there's one tree He's saying that both Jews and Gentiles are grafted into the same trunk the same stump the same roots and those roots are
Jesus and because both Jew and Greek Slave and free male and female are all brought in into the same root system, which is
Christ Then he can only have one people of God. He can only have one bride
He can only have one body and he can and and that one Body that one bride is the only way that you get access to God Anyone who is trying to carve out a second people with a second covenant status with a different highway in Completely misunderstands what
Paul is saying and honestly, I think they disregard and disrespect what the Word of God is saying Paul even goes further to state his case even more clearly when he said of the first century
Jews that they were broken off because of their unbelief Romans 11 20 Unbelief in what?
What caused God to cut them out of the Covenant? Was it unbelief in their Jewishness? Was it a lack of trust in their circumcision?
Was it a lack of hope and and and and excitement over their temple? Was it they didn't believe fully in the
Old Covenant promises that they didn't trust entirely in the Old Covenant sacrificial system?
No They were cut out Because they rejected
Jesus Christ and the only way that they will ever be cut back in Grafted back in is not through being
Jews and not through practicing Judaism The only way for a
Jew to get back in is to abandon their satanic Judaism and come to Jesus Christ To bow down to King Jesus He is the way the truth the life and no one comes to the father except through him
Judaism Promises that you can get to Yahweh apart from Christ and that is satanic
You either believe in Christ or you cut off That's the end of the story the olive tree example that Paul gives doesn't challenge
Zionism. It kills it It starves it it cripples it it erases it if we see it and This is precisely why
Paul issues such a stern Warning both to the Jews and the
Gentiles He says I would even I'd be willing to give up my salvation so that they would be saved Why is he saying that because he knows that they've been cut out of the
Covenant? He knows that in just a few years after the book of Romans is written that the
Jews are going to be destroyed by God for their crimes against him So he's saying
I Love them enough Not to placate them in their
Judaism. I love them enough To say you need to repent and turn to Christ or else you're damned
But he doesn't just warn the Jews. He also warns the Gentiles. He warns them Do not gloat in the salvation that you've been given do not lord it over the
Jews because it is not You Paul says who supports the root, but is the root that supports you
Romans 11 18 What's Paul saying? He's saying to the Gentiles that just like Jewishness is not your
Identity and it's not the root of the tree and it's not how you get in so also being a
Gentile isn't your identity either and that means something because it's it not only means that Jesus is the stump from which both peoples will grow it necessarily means that the way to God cannot be and never will be one of Ethnicity or biological privilege because if it
Jew if Jewishness as a biological marker matters nothing and being a Gentile from genealogical descent means nothing then that means that the only way to actually have real identity is to have it in Christ if Christ is the root then the tree is the community of everyone connecting to him
Jew Gentile male female Slave and free unlike our only identity is
Not in our bloodlines Our only identity is not in our skin color Our only identity is not from what tribe or tongue or people we came from our identity is
Jesus. That's it and when Zionism argues that there's a special place for Jewish ethnic people in the future.
They're Undermining the gospel. They're saying that that this that this all -consuming
Identity given to us by Jesus It was only just a asterisk period.
It was only just a period to get us to the Jews and That just makes no sense of the gospel, especially when
Paul says that neither Jew nor Greek actually matters What only matters is Christ? Paul removes
Every possible escape hatch when he talks about the branches if the branches were nations
Well, then, you know Zionism would maybe have a fighting chance at a point But Paul never speaks of nations being grafted in he speaks of individual believers being grafted in He said in Romans 11 20 you stand only by your faith
Nations Corporately speaking cannot stand only by their faith nations cannot corporately speaking
Repent as a singularity as a single individual entity No Nations can't be grafted in for that same reason only people can and when
Paul says that unbelieving Jews were broken off He is not describing a nation that has somehow been placed on a hiatus or a pause
He is describing individual people cut out of God's covenant for rejecting their
Messiah And this is not a denial that nations are important I'm a nationalist
I'm a Christian nationalist and not Different topic but there are some bad
Christian nationalists and and now maybe have an episode where I can distinguish myself from that But I'm saying that nations are important I'm saying nations are going to be discipled
I'm saying that that the foundation of the world's salvation will be all the nation
Streaming to Jesus just like it says in Isaiah I believe that all of the nations on earth are going to bow down and worship him as Genesis 49 says
I believe that But nations are transformed only as Individuals within those nations are brought into Christ Zionism Actually flips that on its head by claiming that a nation can retain
Covenant privilege even when everyone every individual person in that nation is a blasphemer and a
God hater and Paul Utterly destroys that idea instantly in this chapter
Zionism requires the branches to be nations Paul requires the branches to be people
The two systems cannot coexist with each other Paul binds covenant standing to faith alone in Christ alone
Zionism builds their argument based off bloodlines. Paul says that you stand by your faith in Christ Whose whose blood is the only reason you're saved not yours?
every form of ethnic entitlement Collapses the entire
Zionist program dies under those five words
And this is also why Paul tells the Gentiles not to be arrogant Because covenant standing is grounded in faith and not by sight
Which means as we have said before if you are not in Christ You are severed from God your covenant status is damned.
And if you don't repent you will spend eternity in hell Whether you are a
Jew or whether you're a Greek and that will lead us to part three When did the covenant cutting begin
Now one of the most decisive questions in Romans 11 is not merely who is
Israel or what is the olive tree? But the question one of the most decisive at least is when did
God cut off Unbelieving Israel because Paul does not point to some distant eschatological horizon
He speaks in the past tense. He speaks in the past. That's what past tense means
He speaks about a covenant judgment that was already in motion when he was alive and watching he said that some of the branches were broken off and That they were broken off for their unbelief
Romans 11 20 He says that God did not spare the natural branches Romans 11 21
These are not future predictions. They are Paul in his inspired
Interpretation of the events that he was seeing with his own eyes. These are predictions. These are
Paul's inspired interpretations of things that he was seeing with his own eyes in redemptive history and Therefore the judgment was local the judgment was first century the judgment was not global and it was not at some point in the future and That judgment reached its climax in the very events that Jesus foretold in Matthew 24 the desolation of Jerusalem in 80 70 he he even called them the days of Vengeance when all things which were written are fulfilled
Luke 21 22 He warned Jesus did Israel's leaders that your house is going to be left unto you desolate
Matthew 23 38 He insisted that the entire crisis of vengeance and covenant wrath and doom and Destruction was gonna fall upon that generation not ours, but there's
Matthew 24 34 Paul stands inside of that generation at the very end of that generation.
He's about 35 years after Jesus gave that proclamation 30 to 35 years after Jesus gave that that prophecy and Paul is watching
Israel's authorities reject their Messiah just like Jesus said when he said that their love is gonna grow cold and that they're gonna
Persecute his bride and his church from synagogue to synagogue to synagogue and that Earthquakes are gonna happen and famines are gonna happen and false messiahs are gonna rise up and Paul was seeing all of it happened in his lifetime and He was seeing how all of this
Was fulfilling what Jesus said about their coming devastation
When Paul says that Israel stumbled in Romans 11 11 and that the rest of them were hard and Romans 117 he is describing the spiritual state of apostate
Israel not modern -day Jerusalem not a modern -day political project not the party of Netan Yahoo, not the people who have this
Star of David flag not the people who kiss the wailing wall. None of them. They are not the point of this chapter and once that timeline is recovered
Romans 11 becomes crystal clear and that the gospel is advancing by spirit wrought power in the first century that Gentiles are entering into Relationship with Jesus from every corner of the
Roman Empire and at the same Moment the Covenant standing of unbelieving
Israel is collapsing Hebrews declares That the
Old Covenant is Obsolete and that by the time that the writer of Hebrews was writing that at that moment it was ready to disappear
Hebrews 8 13, which means that 2 ,000 years ago if the Old Covenant realities were on the cusp of Disappearing they're not going to reappear 2 ,000 years later
Like some kind of ghost or something Paul's witnessing its disappearance
He's watching the dusk of the Mosaic world and he's watching the dawn of the
Messianic Kingdom come This is why He warns
Gentiles not to grow proud because they were living through a covenantal upheaval of such seismic and cosmic
Proportions that the world would never be the same. You're never gonna go to the temple anymore to worship
God. You are never going to offer Sacrifices anymore that please
God you are never Going to go back to the Old Covenant types and shadows
Because this world has passed that old world has passed away
That's why when I talk about this I talk about that. It was the end of the world just not our world their world
It was the end of the Jewish world. It was the end of the Old Covenant world It was the end of the temple world.
It was the end of the sacrificial world It was the end of that's the way that you come into relationship with God because the types and the shadows got put back on the shelf because the true substance in Jesus had come and they
Those first century people they were seeing Jesus's parable fulfilled before their very eyes that the kingdom of God was being given to tax collectors and prostitutes and yet the kingdom of God was being taken away from the
Jews because they were a nation who did not bear his fruit Romans are sorry
Matthew 21 13 and This is not a prophecy about distant events
Matthew 21 Matthew 22 Matthew 23 Matthew 24 are all first century realities
And if if you are wondering how we understand that go back and watch the Matthew 24 series.
I go through explicit detail and talk about all of that and how
Matthew 24 is not a passage about the future of the world is a passage about the end of the
Jewish world So we do that in like 19 or 20 episodes go back and check that out.
But at this point the biblical logic is irresistible if the breaking of Israel was already occurring in Paul's lifetime if it was on the cusp of disappearing if the
Old Covenant world was was Moments from passing away if the crisis Jesus predicted had a first century horizon
Then Romans 11 cannot be drafted into a two millennia long future scheme
It just can't the pruning was not future the judgment was not future the the destruction of Jerusalem was not future the fire that came on the city was not
Future the the covenant curse is being poured out on them was not future. And if all of that was historical it was the covenant death of Unbelieving Israel consummated in the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 and Romans 11 is pointing to that And here and only here the theological conclusion lands with unblunted precision
Any system that insists that unbelieving Israel still possesses covenant status with Yahweh Has to overturn
Paul's thinking his theology his grammar his context his timeline Everything that he's written because Paul locates the cutting in the first century
Paul locates the grafting in in the first century and Paul locates the
Urgency of his message in the first century not in bloodlines
But in the blood of Christ, he interprets Jerusalem's fall as the decisive Removal of the
Old Covenant world in the Old Covenant system not the prelude to its one -day
Restoration and just think about how that would even what that would even say about the gospel if Paul says, oh, you know
No, no. No, the the Jews are gonna be resurrected one day and they're gonna worship at a temple again There's gonna be a third temple.
They're gonna institute the sacrificial system because you know God loves that so much and then you ask him.
Well Paul Obviously I'm being facetious Paul Didn't Jesus offer the once -for -all sacrifice.
Yeah, but God just really loves the smell of fat and calves and and God just you know
Even though Jesus is the temple God just really loves the Jerusalem temple and he's gonna he's gonna restore all that at some point because yeah
The Jews he loves him No God loves his people
The Jews today are not his people They can become his people but not by building a temple and entering into a sacrificial system
They can become his people by bowing the knee to Jesus Christ And that is what's loving that if you tell them that that is loving you say abandon your
Judaism and turn to Christ That's loving. I don't care what the pluralistic
Marxist world has to say or cancel culture has to say I don't care If I tell someone that they're okay in their
Judaism that that they're God's chosen people in their Judaism Then I am being a hateful
Just unbelievable monster on the level of a Hitler why? Because I'm not telling them the truth and I'm telling them that they can be okay in the eyes of God in their sin
And they're God hating and I'm basically giving them a easy pathway to hell
The only way to be loving to the Jews is not to say that they're the chosen people.
They're not there They're under God's wrath Just like every other nation on earth
That is apart from Christ The only way to be loving to them is to tell them the truth.
They must repent and turn to Jesus. That's it That's the message that the Apostles said
That's the message that the New Testament says that's the Israel that was being revealed in the
New Testament The Jew and Gentile united in Christ the only route that gives life. That's the church.
That's who they must join That's who if they don't They will be lost forever
Which brings us to part four the first century grafting
Now if the breaking of Jewish branches was already underway in Paul's Lifetime then the honest reader must ask himself the next most unavoidable question
Were any Jews in that same era actually being grafted back in?
Because the future system insists that Romans 11 is awaiting a future revival, which means that No one
No Jew was grafted back in in the first century Which means that all of them perished if you hold that system
The futurists insist that Romans 11 is awaiting a future revival. That's when they get grafted back in It's a last days surge of ethnic
Israel into the kingdom and that's gonna be the cause of of worldwide explosion of angelism but Paul Doesn't actually believe that Paul doesn't write that way.
He does not cast the Engrafting of the Jews into the future. He anchors it in the present
So he talks about the cutting away in the past. He talks about the engrafting in the present
Which means that it can't be in the future for us or even for him because it was happening in his
Present day as Paul says I am speaking to you who are
Gentiles in as much then as I am an apostle of Gentiles and I Magnify my ministry somehow
I might move to jealousy my countrymen and save some of them Romans 11 13 through 14
That's not a prediction about a future ministry saying I am moved to tears I am am yearning to see my countrymen saved by Jesus in my lifetime
That's his mission and that's not eschatological speculation That's the ache of a man standing in the middle of a crisis that he's describing
He's watching his own country going down the covenantal tubes and he's praying and yearning that he would see
God save them He noticed the realism of what Paul saying that God would save some of them
Why? because Paul doesn't promise that God would save none of them and Paul doesn't record that God would save all of them
Paul doesn't promise a guaranteed Ethnic wide conversion and that's what
Zionism does Zion is Zionism is the covenant people of God They are they are the one true people of God and they're all gonna come back to him one day.
No Paul even says that it's gonna be a minority It's gonna be a remnant.
It's gonna be some not all some not none kind of thing when he says
All Israel is gonna be saved He's not saying all Israel after the flesh will one day be saved in mass.
That's not what he's saying He's speaking using the vocabulary of biblical remnant theology some not all
Repentant individuals are gonna are gonna be grafted back in not an unconditional national deliverance of people who hate
Jesus and When he speaks about their restoration He frames it with the condition that the futurist system refuses to acknowledge
He says they also if they do not continue in unbelief Will be grafted in for God is able to graft them in again
Which is astounding because that means that the ones who were grafted out can be grafted back in again
If you're grafted in again, then you have to be the one who was grafted out, right?
If I say that that Today, I'm going back to the grocery store again.
It means that I already went today now. I'm going a second time This is what Paul is saying. The Jews were the covenant people of God They were grafted out and they first century
Judah needs to be grafted back in Not modern -day Jews because they were never in his covenant in the first place
They they don't believe in Christ. They have rejected the gospel. They have rejected Christianity They are not in the covenant
So they can't actually be grafted back into the covenant because they've never been in in the first place the single if here
Demolishes the Zionist reading Paul is not Offering a blanket ethnic guarantee to some future people.
He's just not He's extending an open door of repentance to people who are alive in his day to fellow
Israelites whom he is longing to see provoke to jealousy as they watch the
Gentiles coming into faith As he as they watch the Gentiles worshipping
Yahweh as they see the Gentiles get the Holy Spirit as they see the Gentiles manifesting gifts of the
Spirit as they see them dying for their faith with with courage and conviction when they see the
Miracles when they see the power of the preaching when they see the conversions when they see all of that May they be provoked to jealousy in the first century
So that they will repent in the first century and be grafted back in again
Now at this point someone is inevitably going to object saying, you know It says that all the Jews are gonna be saved. We know that that didn't happen in the first century
So must in it not be the future Revival that happens where all of Israel is saved.
Isn't that what that means? And and I would say no It doesn't have to mean that all
Israel of the biological descent was saved in the first century we'll get into more of that in a minute and it certainly doesn't mean that all of Modern -day
Israel is going to be saved What it means is Israel the people of God all of them will be saved that's what it means
So in the first century Everyone who belonged to the people of God they were saved that is all of Israel so that means all the
Gentiles and All the Jews all the males and all the females all the children and all the elderly all the slaves and all the free everyone who was predestined to come to Jesus Christ in the first century came and They came in this strange little period of time
Where the Old Covenant and the New Covenant existed side -by -side in overlapping eras and Paul says hey, listen, we're living in a very strange time and all of Israel Don't worry
All of Israel is going to be saved and that means Those who are not just Jews outwardly those who are
Jews inwardly those who are not just circumcised Those who are circumcised of the heart those who say they are Jews that are not nope
They're cut out but those who are Jews by being connected to Jesus They will be brought in and all of Israel will be saved
Paul is encouraging a Roman Church that had great division between Jew and Gentile that hate
Jewish Gentiles or hate Jewish Christians and Hey Gentile Christians, you all belong to the same group.
You all belong to the same nation You all belong to the same family. You're all going to be saved This has nothing to do with a future nation who's gonna all be saved because they've got a special covenant status
It just doesn't the Jews are no different than any other nation on earth. Sorry. That's just true
They're no different than unbelieving Indians. They're no different than unbelieving Australians They're no different than unbelieving
Aboriginal peoples or unbelieving South Americans or unbelieving Russians or unbelieving Ukrainians or unbelieving
Spaniards or Romans or whatever? There's no difference They will be saved in the modern world in the same way that every other nation under heaven is
Saved and that is through Christ in Christ alone Not because they possess a special separate covenant and not because they have a deferred
Promise or they have some kind of IOU card from God or some kind of ethnic first pass into the kingdom
They will be saved the same way that the nations are by bowing down and worshiping
King Jesus by believing the gospel and entering into the new covenant of grace as the people of God If they don't they are not his people.
They are not chosen. They are not Jews They are not
Israel and if they perish They perish for the same reasons the nation's perish because they rejected the king who commanded their loyalty and they rejected it
It doesn't matter who you are if you reject Christ You are going to hell if you do not believe in Christ You are going to hell and that is not exclusive.
It is to all people Jew and Greek Their destiny is not determined by their bloodline
Their destiny is not determined by the soil that sits beneath their toes.
Their destiny is determined by the sovereign grace of Almighty God who shows mercy on whom he shows mercy and who
Condemns who he condemns that's Romans 9 That is Paul's entire argument in the book of Romans Israel after the flesh
No longer stands in a special status above the nations elevated above the peoples of the world
They no longer have a special light by which they can offer to the Gentiles They stand on the same footing as the rest of the nations
The Jews were the womb that bring Jesus that brought Jesus to the world and when that womb was finished it withered up and died and Now the
Jews modern -day Israel are on the same footing as everyone else. They are not special They are equal with everyone else in their condemnation and they are equal with everyone else in their need for Jesus This is what the
New Testament says It records that the very in grafting that Paul was hoping for Actually happened in the first century
There was there was an engrafting of Jews that came in there was a Jewish revival There was actually a large group of people still a remnant, but there was a large group of Jews who were coming to Jesus.
So Shouldn't we call that a first century? What shouldn't we call that a revival?
Paul is saying that all the all Israel will be saved He's even promising that there that there will be a remnant of people who are grafted back in Okay Well, if we see that happening in the first century and we know that everything
Paul's been saying in Romans 11 is concerning the first century Then why wouldn't we count that as a fulfillment of what
Paul said that there would be some who would be grafted back in That's a Jewish revival That's the story that begins at Pentecost Remember where the first wave of the engrafting actually occurs and it doesn't occur among Gentiles You'll remember the early
Christian Church was entirely Jewish There was no Gentile mission until Paul said to the
Jews at the synagogue that I'm going to the Gentiles now But that was later. That was much later
Acts says that many Jews were coming to faith Peter even addresses them at Pentecost saying men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem Acts 2 14 and Luke emphasizes that Jews from every nation under heaven
We're coming to Christ acts 2 5 when Peter announces that Christ Jesus is both
Lord and Christ in acts 2 36. There were 3 ,000 Jews baptized and They were added to the church that day
Meaning that they left Old Testament Judaism and converted to Christ acts 2 41 that's not a side note a footnote or a small note in the history of the
Jewish people that is an absolute engrafting out of Judaism and into Christianity which is an
Unbelievably significant event and that's the beginning of the engrafting that Romans 11 is describing That's the beginning of the
Jewish revival not in the future, but in the past 3 ,000 people on one day
Converting from Judaism to Christianity is significant But it is not in there Acts 4 tells us that after Peter and John preached that many of those who had heard the message believed and now the number of the
Men just the men the number of the men came to about 5 ,000 people. That's 5 ,000
Jews who've now men who've converted to Christ acts 4 4 These are
Jews in Jerusalem Luke reports that the Word of God kept spreading and And a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith now in Acts chapter 6
It's the priests who are coming to faith Acts 2 3 ,000 are saved acts 4 now 5 ,000 men are saved acts 6 the priests are being saved
These are the people who were the most antagonistic to Jesus These are the people who commuted to kill
Jesus now, some of them are actually turning their lives over to Jesus They're forsaking the shadow for the substance does that not qualify as a
Jewish revival Paul even when he reaches
Jerusalem in Acts 21 James Tells him you see brother how many?
Thousands that there are among the Jews of those who have believed
Acts 21 20 So acts 2 says 3 ,000 believed many revival
Acts 4 5 ,000 believed moderate revival Acts 6 the priests were starting to convert to Jesus It's a pretty significant revival and by Acts 21 when
Paul comes back into the city James says that many thousands are believing now and Quite literally the word in Greek means many myriads
So it it could mean tens of thousands maybe pushing close to a hundred thousand
We don't know but we know it's myriads and not just one myriad but myriads upon myriads of Jews who are converting to Christ Luke wants you to feel the weight of that that this is not a kind of fickle movement
This is a movement that was like a raging waterfall that was happening in first century
Judaism where people were leaving the Old Covenant types and shadows and following Jesus and That river flows far outside of just Jerusalem It goes into Judea Samaria and it goes to the all throughout the
Roman world from the outset the Diaspora Jews are being swept into Christ across the
Empire Pentecost includes Jews and proselytize from regions stretching from Parthia to Rome acts 2 9 through 11
These believers are now coming to Jerusalem hearing the gospel leaving Jerusalem taking the gospel back to their synagogues and homelands as Branches that are now attached to Jesus the
Messiah and and that Shows us that the Roman world filled with Jews at that time was being converted
Paul's entire missionary rhythm is to the Jew first and then to the Gentile Romans 1 16
Assumes an ongoing Jewish in grafting city after city synagogue after synagogue
Acts records the same pattern that Romans 11 explains that Jews were believing that the
People who were hardened in their sin Some of them were turning to faith in Christ and they were being saved by him and grafted back into him again first century history
Therefore does not leave us searching for some kind of a Unfulfilled promise it doesn't say
I well, you know Paul said that but that must be the future It hands us a completion right there in front of our very eyes
Paul says that some will be grafted back in and we see it in the book of Acts and some is myriads upon myriads upon Myriads, why are we go looking in the future for a revival that happened in the past?
I don't understand that Why did Paul say that he was longing to save some of them if?
He meant people 2 ,000 years from now can you imagine how ridiculous that would be Paul is looking at the
Jewish nation who is literally getting ready to be destroyed and He sits on his bed and he weeps for modern -day
Judaism, I Mean that would be Preposterous.
I don't really care about these people who are my countrymen. I don't really care if they die and go to hell
I care about the modern -day Jews That's who I really care about the star of David flag
Flying Jews, that's who I care about. I want them to be saved. I'm weeping for them to be saved
That's what he says in Romans 11 14, right? No, I mean at every level of the context of Romans 11
We're showing that Paul is talking about first century Jews Not modern -day Jews when
God answered the longing of Paul's heart the prayer of God's heart with thousands upon thousands of Jewish conversions in Jerusalem and Judea and throughout the
Diaspora in the Roman world. He answered Paul's prayer then he fulfilled Romans 11
Then we are not waiting on Romans 11 to be fulfilled. We've seen it fulfilled then and many of Those people who once opposed
Christ Maybe even those who signed off on the death of Christ were being brought into Christ many who clung to the temple was now turning
To the true temple of God many who trusted in their own bloodline were coming into the blood of Christ many
Were being engrafted into Christ, which is what Romans 11 Anticipates it describes it documents and in the first century was fulfilled
And once you see that reality once that reality is acknowledged then the future the futurist
Zionist scaffolding Collapses under its own weight of stupidity
Because Paul is not postponing Israel's hope for millennia into the future
He's interpreting what God was doing in his own generation The branches were broken off and yet some of those branches were being grafted back in The tree did not lie dormant for 2 ,000 years awaiting for a modern political revival
Especially for people who still to this day hate Jesus Christ to me that first century
Engrafting that first century revival is so clear in the scripture. It's so established beyond any dispute or any reasonable doubt
That now we're finally able to ask the question that is confused so many What did
Paul mean when he said the fullness of the Gentiles and when
Did that fullness arrive to answer that question? We need now move into part 5 the fullness of the
Gentiles Paul's phrase the fullness of the
Gentiles top play Palma tone ethnon in Romans 11 25 has been
Catastrophically distorted by futurist and Zionism and all of its dispensational cousins
Rather than allowing Paul to define his own terms with within the historical Linguistic and covenantal universe that he was inhabiting.
Well these systems import a modern and a globalized meaning of the word world in order to Stretch their the meaning of this text across two millennium and then they claim that God is postponing his dealings with Israel Because he's waiting on to the fullness of Gentile come the fullness of the
Gentiles comes in He's waiting until all the Gentiles are saved. That's what Paul said, right?
Well, that is a misreading of the text and that misreading Transforms a chapter that is pulsating with first century urgency into a prophecy of indefinite delay
But Paul however is not speaking that way He's not saying that that Israel will be saved when all of the
Gentiles that are ever going to be saved Are saved in human history You Have to bring in so much opinion in order to even read it that way
He's not suspending Israel's fate until a global census of Gentiles has come in he's identifying a specific moment as historically bounded
That the fullness was going to arrive and that time period was his own
Generation and it would serve as the divinely appointed signal that the
Old Covenant world was reaching its Catastrophic end now to see this clearly one has to let scripture speak in its own
Vocabulary, and this is such a pet peeve of mine If you're gonna understand what the
Bible says about world You need to not understand what we think we mean in English when we say world the
Bible I know this might be shocking to some people not you dear listener. You are great
But this might be shocking to some people that the
Bible wasn't written in English. I know fantastic Bible is written in Greek so if we want to understand what the word world means we need to understand what the word in Greek meant and Unfortunately for us
We only have one word the Greeks had four and those four words all show up in the
New Testament so we need to know what those words mean if we're gonna understand what Paul means by world or what
Jesus means by world or James or anyone else and when Jesus declared that the gospel of the kingdom was going to be preached in the whole world and Then the end was gonna come
Matthew 24 14 He actually wasn't using the word that we think of world He wasn't using the word that we think of planet
Earth He wasn't thinking of the word that every person on earth, you know The sum total of the conglomerate of humanity that belongs to the world.
That's actually not the word He was using when he said that this gospel is gonna be preached in the whole world
He wasn't talking about the whole world and this is where English is frustrating
And this is where translation committees ought to know better because the word there is not
Cosmos, it's the word you think about when you think of cosmological or the cosmos That's the word that in Greek means the whole world the whole world everybody and that's the word that futurist
Casually assume that Jesus is referring to in Matthew 24 when they think the whole world must be saved before the end comes
That's not what he's saying Jesus used the word oikomen a
Oikomen a is the word that in Matthew 24 is translated as world, but it doesn't mean the whole world
It's actually a very technical term Made up of two Greek words oikos and mene or minnow oikos means house minnow means dwelling place
So it's the dwelling house. What what does that mean? Well, like I said, it's a technical term that meant in those days and you can research this if you'd like It's obviously true
The word oikomen a meant the inhabited Organized world that was underneath the
Roman Empire. It was it just meant all the people in the Roman Empire That's what it meant So when
Caesar in Luke chapter 2 I believe it is when he says that all of the world is going to be taxed
We we can't actually believe that Caesar in Rome who had no jurisdiction in ancient
China thought that the ancient Chinese people were gonna give him tax and we certainly can't believe that the ancient
Celts or the Native Americans or the Aztecs or whoever else was alive at that time that they thought hey
Caesar made a decree We have to send all of our money to Rome That's not what that word is that word oikomen a means all of the
Roman world came under tax Because why Caesar had jurisdiction there? That's the same word that Jesus uses in Matthew 24
It's the Roman Imperial arena the very world in which the
Jewish story was Born and what in the New Testament story was born It's the world in which the
Christian proclamation of the gospel was already beginning to spread in the New Testament times
That's why When Jesus says that all of the oikomen a is going to hear the gospel
The gospel is going to go out into all the oikomen a he's not saying that the gospel Must be preached in the whole world and then the end will come he's saying that the gospel must be preached all throughout the
Roman Empire and then the end will come the end of what the end of the Jews the end of what the end of the Old Covenant world the end of the world.
No, so that's the word oikomen a another word that is translated as world That gets us really confused is the word gay or Gaia Which is the word for land now if you and I said if I told you to look down and grab a big handful of earth
You would know what I mean, you would not think that I meant go grab a handful of the planet You would know that I did not mean for you to grab the earth like a softball in your hand
You would know that you would know that I mean the dirt beneath your feet feet grab a little bit of it
Put it in your hand the land. That's what the term means. Gaia gay land
And it's a term that is repeatedly used in the New Testament and it's in it in context
Explicitly refers to the land of Judah the Covenant Territory Where the prophets were slain where Moses stood at the foot of Mount Sinai and gave them the law
It's the land where the Messiah came and he was rejected there.
He was killed there. He resurrected there He ascended from there. It's the land where Jesus gave the the prediction that the coming
Catastrophe was going to come upon this people in this land and on that generation
He said in this city your house is going to be left to you desolate
What does that mean other than first century Jews your house your temple is going to be left to you desolate
John follows him precisely in this anchoring the Bowels of God's wrath to the land where the blood of the prophets were shed once these two horizons are understood oikomen a means the gospel expansion in the
Roman world not a whole planet and Gay or Gaia means covenantal judgment upon the land or the world of the
Jews the land of the Jews In the future is scaffolding again collapses under its own weight of stupidity again
Because the word world is not the word for globe in the modern
Geographical sense, but it's that Oikomen a is the word for Roman world and the word
Gaia or Gaia is for land It's the land that's receiving the judgment that Jesus promised.
It's not a universal worldwide destruction It's Israel's territory.
It's the dirt that sits beneath their feet and It's that people who bore the covenant
Who brought the covenant into the first century world are now the people who are going to endure the covenant curses not the whole world
The people who were in covenant with him and those are the people who live in the land of Judah not the world
That's what those words mean. Now Paul stands squarely in the middle of these two
Definitions of these two terms because Paul is smart and Paul knows his Greek and Paul is not operating under English definitions of world
He's just not so when Paul says that the gospel is spreading rapidly through the
Oikomen a he means that the gospel is spreading rapidly through the Roman world just like Jesus said and He's seeing that the hardness of Israel is actually reaching a kind of fullness a kind of Crescendoing where the judgment is going to be poured out on the land
Gay Gaia, not the world. So when he says that the fullness of the
Gentiles is Coming is happening He cannot mean every
Gentile who will ever live on planet earth Who is elect and coming to Christ and who will be saved?
He cannot mean every Gentile in every century and every millennia that that will be saved
He just can't mean that because he's not using Terms like Cosmos to describe the things that he's saying it refers to the completion of a
Gentile influx into Christ within the Roman world Jesus identified as The final sign that was going to happen before the end of the
Old Covenant age That's exactly how Paul writes in his letters. His eschatology is not slow 2 ,000 years molasses low.
His eschatology is not relaxed not open -ended not deferential to a distant Jewish people
It is compressed. It is urgent. It is historically charged in 1st
Corinthians 10 11 he announces that the ends of the ages have come upon us
Do you hear that in 1st Corinthians 10 11 Paul says the ends of the ages that word there is world
Which is another word for world I on He says the end of the world has come upon us
He said that in 1st Corinthians 10 11 and he didn't say the end of the world has come upon you modern person
Says the end of the world has come upon them It's very interesting. What does Paul mean by that?
He doesn't mean the end of the physical planet earth It means that the end of the
Old Covenant world has come He's announcing that the ends of the ages had come upon his readers inside the terminal generation
Of the Old Covenant people that means the Old Covenant world was passing away in 1st
Corinthians 7 29 through 31 He declares that the time has been shortened and that the form of this world is passing away
You read that passage and you're like Okay, the form of the world is passing away Yeah, it's happening right now right now in my day
And we forget that Paul said that 2 ,000 years ago that the form of the world was passing away
He's not referring in that moment to the dissolution of the physical universe That's gonna happen at some point in modern
America He's saying that the world of the Covenant people of Israel the world of the temple the world of the sacrificial system
Was fading in his own day and the time was running short by the time. He wrote the book of 1st
Corinthians That's why Hebrews 8 13 confirms that the Old Covenant was then
Becoming obsolete and ready to disappear and and these texts do not belong to a theology of delay
They belong to a theology of imminency and urgency. Paul is standing in the final hours of the world of the
Jewish world Not in a quiet prelude of some kind of eschatological gap at the end of the old world that explains to us why
Paul sees his mission as urgent that that that his mission also is is a kind of accelerant of prophetic fulfillment
Because think about it this way Paul knows that he's preaching the gospel in the
Roman world Why did Paul decide to preach the gospel in the Roman world and Why did
Paul decide to preach the gospel in the Roman world after the Jews rejected him? maybe it was because Jesus said that the gospel must be preached in all the
Roman world before the end will come and Maybe just maybe Paul said to himself I've preached as hard as I can and as long as I can
I've offered the gospel as many times as I can to these Jews I'm done. I'm going to the
Gentiles and You have to believe That Paul who knew what
Jesus said because the other disciples told him you have to believe that he thought to himself
Okay as I go and preach this gospel to the ends of the Roman Empire my ministry now is a part of The final sands that are going to be in the hourglass of the
Jewish people That's why in Romans 15 19 Paul reports that he has already preached the gospel from Jerusalem all the way to Illyricum, why do you think he said that?
Like is he just giving some kind of random status report? He's saying guys time's running out. I've already preached the gospel in like most of the
Roman world at this point in Verse 24 he expresses his determination to reach the city of Rome and to reach
Spain because he Understands that the evangelization of the Roman world is going to carry with it
Covenantal consequences he realizes when he preaches the gospel in the last part of the
Roman world that the end is gonna come not for us but for the Jews Is it any wonder that when
Paul finally makes it to Rome and is arrested and beheaded in the city of Rome and His ministry had actually then preached the gospel to the whole
Roman world and Even at the center of the Roman world in the belly of the Roman world in the city of Rome Is it any wonder then that just a few years later at six five six years later that the
Jews were destroyed God had already said it Jesus in the flesh said it the gospel is gonna be preached in all the
Roman world and then the end will come Paul took up that mantle and preached the gospel in all the Roman world and then the end came and He tells us about this all over the place.
We've looked at a few examples already, but look at Romans 13 12 He says that the night is almost gone and the day is near He's talking about the night being the end of the
Old Covenant world and the day is the rising or the dawn of the new Philippians 4 or 5 he says that the
Lord is near and And he doesn't mean that the Lord is near in a general spiritual way to everyone who's brokenhearted
He means it in like the James way when James says that the judge is right at the very door ready to return
That's why he promises in Romans 16 20 Think about this in context
He says that the God of peace is soon going to crush Satan under your feet
Which means that he's rooting the triumph of Genesis 3 15 in his very generation
He thinks that Satan is going to be crushed in the first century and he believes that the Jews who were now in lineage to Satan were also going to be destroyed in the first century and that that was going to be the
Seismic calamity the Old Covenant world going into darkness and the rise of the New Covenant world coming into light
That is what he's saying about the fullness of the Gentiles coming in He's not talking about every single
Gentile on earth who ever will be saved He's talking about the fullness of the
Gentiles in the first century Which is evidence of the gospel going into all the Roman world Which was evidence of the
Jewish Covenant collapsing and the New Covenant rising. That is how your theology is integrated and when
Paul says that Israel's Rejection is the reconciliation of the world
Romans 11 15 He does not mean a future rejection or a future reconciliation
He's talking about the present rejection of the Jewish people of Christ he's talking about the
Gentile surge not being a hiatus in God's dealing with Israel a 2 ,000 year hiatus where the mission of God just kind of goes on and on and on and the
Jews just kind of remain in This sort of vague place. No, he's saying that every Synagogical division and acts every
Gentile Church planted in every Roman City every moment when Paul was announcing We are turning to the
Gentiles. All of that was not a detour in the covenantal story But it was a sign that Israel's judgment was drawing near the
Lord's coming in judgment was near the very fact that the Gentiles are coming in in droves is
Evidence that the unbelieving branches are being cut off and they're getting ready to be thrown into the fire as Jesus says in Matthew 21 the fullness of the
Gentiles is the announcement to the Jews that your time is almost up and It fits perfectly in a first century world not in a modern -day world
And if it's perfectly with what Jesus said in Matthew 21 Matthew 22
Matthew 23 and Matthew 24 Again in the parable of the wicked tenants in Matthew 21 33 through 45
Jesus says the kingdom is going to be taken away from you She's talking to the
Jews and it's going to be given to a people a nation Who produce its fruit not a future ethnic revival of modern -day
Israel But a people called the Israel of God In the parable of the wedding feast
Matthew 21 1 through 10 The original people who were invited to this kingdom refused it
They refused it over and over and over again until the king sent his armies and burnt their city down. That's about 8070 in both parables the ingathering of Outsiders is not a separate plan in the history of redemption
It is evidence that judgment is coming when the Gentiles come in Jesus says the kingdom is being taken away from you when the
Gentiles come in Jesus says I'm gonna burn your city down when the Gentiles come in I'm gonna leave your house desolate when the
Gentiles come in I'm gonna destroy it brick by brick when you see the fullness of the
Gentiles coming in Jews You gotta know that it's almost over for you. You better turn you better repent
You better go to Jesus because your time is almost up. That's what Romans 11 is talking about and When somebody tries to stretch this meaning
To mean that it means anything other than the 40 years between Pentecost and 8070
You're distorting what Jesus said You're destroying the meaning of these
New Testament passages and you're rooting your hope in biological Genealogical realities instead of the gospel of Jesus Christ the fullness of the
Gentiles Therefore is not a delay in the plan of God But it was the very means by which
God accomplished his glory accomplished his new covenant coming and All of that now has prepared us to finally get to the point where we understand part six
The real end of the world now so far we've seen that the
New Testament Especially Paul is operating under the assumption that the world is coming to an end in their lifetime
And we have to wrestle with the fact of what that means and we talked about that earlier Well, it doesn't mean the end of the entire cosmos
Not at all. It doesn't even mean the end of the Roman Empire. It doesn't mean the end of the land
It means the end of the age It means the end of the world of the Jews That's why we need to understand world in the
Greek language because there's so many different Ways of understanding it. So when
Jesus says at the end of the world is coming He's talking about the end of the Jewish age When Paul talks about it into the
Jewish age when the book of Hebrews is saying that that world is passing away That it's that it's becoming obsolete
It's talking about the end of the Old Covenant All of that is signaling to us that there was a world -ending event in the
New Testament Just wasn't the end of the physical world. It was the end of the covenantal world of the
Jews they were as I said before the womb that was Carrying the
Savior and when he was born in proper time, they passed away He now is where the world is focused
If you want to know God you come in through him and not through them That's the seismic shift that happened that made this a new world and it is a new world
The old world was temples priests sacrifices bulls goats blood offerings all this the new world is a once -and -for -all
Offering of Jesus Christ the faithful one whose blood covers every believers sins
Because it's efficacious unto so unto that Romans 11 sits right inside of that moment where where Paul is
Watching the old world pass away in the new world rise Paul is describing why that old world was ending what
God was doing in the midst of that old world ending and he was showing that the cutting off of Unbelieving Israel was not a random event.
It was the covenantal death of the old age It was the salvation of the remnant that was beginning to step into the new age and it was the grafting in of the
Gentiles as a visible sign that Abraham's seed that Abraham's promise that the the promise
God gave to Abraham that he would have the Nations that every family on earth would be blessed through his seed was coming true through Jesus That's why
Jesus pronounces the end of the age in Prophetic language in Matthew 24.
That's why Paul lays out this argument in covenantal logic that makes the end
Inevitable, that's why Jesus points to 80 70 is the moment of destruction that's why Paul points to 80 70 is the moment of pruning and transition and rebuilding
Both Jesus and Paul are talking about the same event the end of the Mosaic Age the public arrival of the undisputed
Empire of Jesus and this is where the phrase and so all
Israel will be saved has to be read with both feet planted in Paul in Jesus Because Paul has already distinguished between Israel who is according to the flesh and Israel who's according to the promise
Romans 9 6 through 8 He's already told us that they that they are not all Israel who descend from Israel He's already told us that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God He's already told us that within ethnic
Israel. There are people who are not Israel But there is a remnant.
There are some who are chosen by grace There are people who are going to be defined by God's mercy and not by genetics and bloodlines
Romans 11 5 so when Paul says all Israel he is not suddenly switching the categories and promising that every last
Jew on earth is going to be saved at some point in the future no He's saying that Israel the
Israel of God the true Israel that was within the false Israel the true Israel that was the elect remnant that God himself had promised to preserve was going to be saved in the very way that he described through the hardening of fake
Israel through the engrafting of true Israel both Jew and Gentile slave and free and the jealousy that that event provoked some to repentance and it
Entrenched and instantiated some in their hardness of heart as they were led away to Destruction where there was for them weeping and gnashing of teeth all of this
All of this is consistent with what we've learned throughout Matthew 24 and in the book of Revelation Paul is not deviating from that every aspect of his argument is
First -century bound first century rooted and if we don't understand that we're going to misunderstand
Paul But once you see that Futurism has to unravel
Futurism wants to drag all of Israel is going to be saved out of the first century out of the true
Israel out of the church out of Jew Gentile slave free male female all are one in Christ China is trying to take that out of that and then plant it in modern -day
Israel in a secular nation who hates God Zionism wants to done once the deliverer to come out of Zion at the end of time to start removing ungodliness from Jacob Essentially, they want the deliverer to come from Israel to revive
Israel and by that they mean national ethnic Israel but Paul says that Christ was already
Removing the ungodliness and the unrighteousness from Jacob in the first century through the preaching of the gospel
Zionism wants the fullness of the Gentiles to be a final headcount of every last convert at the end of the globe
Paul ties This mission Romans 11 mission to the Roman world to the time period that he was living in with the gospel
Coming before the judgment fell upon the land Futurism and Zionism only survives by keeping the
Old Covenant world on life support long after God declared it dead Zionism says ethnic
Israel still holds covenant privilege and status Romans 11 says that only those who believe in Jesus Christ are in the covenant
Zionism says that the Old Covenant nation will be Restored Romans 11 says that it's going to be pruned
Zionism says that the modern state of Israel is the one who inherits the promises of God Romans 11 says that Christ inherits the promises of God and only those who are in union with him get those promises
Zionism says that history is gonna wait on Israel to wake up Romans 11 says that Israel the true
Israel the remnant that is filled out by Gentiles and Jews Already exists in the first century and it's already filling the world
And let me just say this if all Israel being saved has to mean a future
Geopolitical revival then Paul's entire argument about the remnant the present hardening the first century judgment collapses and If that means that then you can just manipulate anything you want in the
New Testament say whatever you want You can take Paul's words entirely out of its context and you can make it say whatever you want if you do that, you can do that with every single doctrine, but if we read it in context and We see that all
Israel is all believers all Believers will be saved Paul is assuring the
Jews and the Gentiles who believe in Christ that you're gonna be saved This world -ending event that's coming this calamity that's coming upon the
Jews this destruction event where? Everything that they knew about how to approach
God was gonna be destroyed. They were probably worried How are we gonna be saved if there's no temple? How are we gonna be saved if there's no
Sacrifices to cover over our sins how They were being discipled by Paul when he said don't worry
All of Israel is going to be saved and who is Israel those who believe in Jesus Christ Don't worry about what's coming upon false
Israel the Jews Don't worry about what's coming upon the synagogue of Satan.
Don't worry about what's coming upon Satan's Stepchildren, that's what
Jesus calls them in John 8 Think about what's happening to you you are
Israel if you believe in Christ, so he was encouraging them He was saying their world to bring it full circle was coming to an end but our world the world of the
New Covenant the world that is that is under the Headship of the true and better Adam Jesus Christ that world is just beginning and that world has been going for 2 ,000 years and that leads us to Part 7 the world after the world ended
When Jesus spoke of heaven and earth passing away Matthew 24 35 He was not speaking about the destruction of the physical universe because we are still here
He said it was gonna happen in 40 years and we're still here. So what is he talking about? He was speaking about the end of the
Israelite covenant world. It's temple sacrifices priesthood You get it.
We've talked about it already, but when that collapse happened The New Covenant world was born and just like Daniel said it was a stone
That would grow into a mighty mountain that would fill the entire earth Daniel 335 or just sorry
Daniel 235 it was the mustard seed that would begin to sprout and grow into a tree for 80
From 80 30 to 80 70. It was a mustard seed in 80 70 it sprouted in 2 ,000 years now we've seen that the tree is grown and grown it will continue to grow until it fills the entire garden earth
Matthew 13 31 through 32 it is this kingdom the leaven that it's beginning to work through the entire loaf of the unleavened world
Matthew 13 33 the point of Romans 11 is not that God is gonna someday
Revive the Old Covenant again that he's gonna that he's gonna wake it up out of his cryogenic slumber
No The point is that when that old world died a new world comes and we're living in that new world now and we have
Obligations to live in that world as faithful citizens of that kingdom now
The point is not a pie in the sky and look to the future constantly be punting our
Faithfulness into the future because well the world's going to hell in a handbasket today The point is we've been renewed by the
Spirit of God. We've been reborn in Jesus Christ We've been made new creations by him
We've been made a covenant people in him that we have actually through him inherited the world
When Jesus rose from the dead, he said all authority in heaven and earth now belong to me He's saying
I own the world and when he brought the church in union with him now, we own the world
How do I say that? Well Let's say I own a house and I take for myself a bride
The day that I say I do and the day that she says I do she now owns what I own we own it together
So when Christ at Pentecost took a bride She got what he has
She now the church is the one who owns the world She is the one
Who is in charge of making the world look like Jesus wants it to look
You imagine that that man who married the woman? They go on their honeymoon and they come back home and they settle into their home and the man says honey
I've got to go on a long business trip Here is the money that I want you to use. I want you to make this house look exactly like I want it
I want it to conform to my will and my pleasure and I want you to do that in your in your beautiful and feminine
Way, here's the plan. Here's the money. I want you to do it when I return I want it to be finished and then we will live in that home together forever
That is that is what has happened in the New Covenant Jesus bought and paid for and married a bride and Jesus put that bride in his home the world that he purchased with his own blood and He's given us the command to beautify it to decorate it to make it look like his will and his pleasure he bought a dilapidated broken -down old house and he's put his bride in charge of making it beautiful again and It's our job as Christians To take what
Christ has given us and to not Waste our energy and our time
Flirting with things like Zionism Or flirting with things like well, there's another blood moon.
Maybe we're gonna be raptured today. All that stuff is a satanic distraction Our job is to spend every waking moment of our lives making this world
Conform to the image of Christ. That means my life That means my family.
That means my living room my bedroom. That means my house. That means my neighborhood That means my state my county my country
I'm supposed to be spending every bit of energy that I've got Making this world look like the world that Jesus imagines
So that the kingdom of God will come on earth as it is in heaven So that the leaven will continue to leaven the lump in my little corner of the bread loaf you and I We have a responsibility
To live our lives for Christ we have a responsibility to do the mission of God The only thing that you're gonna be judged on is how you spent your time for Christ The only thing you're gonna be judged on is did you actually?
Did you actually do with what he gave you something of merit and something of value?
When Jesus comes and he speaks to the people that he gave different sums of money different talents
The one that he gave five made it into ten and he said well done good and faithful servant that man took that five that Jesus gave him and Doubled it the man who was given to doubled his and received four and Jesus said well done good and faithful servant
You notice he got the same reward He didn't have as much talents as the man and who got the five but he did with what he had and he doubled it and then you have the man who had one and He buried it and he buried it because he wanted to conserve it he didn't want to lose it
He didn't want to he didn't want to risk Offending this great and powerful master.
So we buried it and he gave it back. He said look I took what you gave me I held it safe and I gave it back to you
Jesus says that he was a wicked and a lazy slave that he need to be beaten for his actions and That his talent would be taken away from him and given to someone else
The point of our life is not to sit around and dread and doom and gloom and to and and to Spend our wheels working on how to build our little castle
The point of our lives is to build the kingdom of Christ The point of our lives is to put the talent that he's given us to put the unique Personality that he's given you to work to put your skills your mental acuity to put
Everything that Christ has given you as blessing even the oxygen in your lungs To put it to work
That means you parent now in a way that's building Jesus's kingdom You drive your car in a way that's building
Jesus's kingdom You work in a way that is building Jesus's kingdom. You tell people the gospel in a way that is building
Jesus's kingdom Everything you do now comes under the lordship of your
King so that you can build his kingdom As his bride so that when he returns His house is beautiful That's the point that Paul was getting after in Romans 11
That the Old Covenant people have passed away Why? Because the Old Covenant was never meant to produce the world that Jesus imagined.
The Old Covenant was a band -aid for the fall of man The Old Covenant was a band -aid for people who were waiting for Christ The Old Covenant was the vehicle that got him to Christ And now that Christ is born
Christ has died Christ has been raised Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father The new world has come
And you and I are his emissaries and you and I are his servants and you and I Are the
Israel of God He was gonna make this whole world into a garden paradise for him
When the whole world knows Jesus When the world has been brought under submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ, and there's only but one enemy left and that is death
Jesus will return and Jesus will usher us into the eternal state where we will live with him for ever
That is the hope that Paul in Romans 11 that Jesus in Matthew 24 and all of the
New Testament are echoing if we read them how they
Spoke if we read them in their own language if we read them in their own words
We will see that if we bring meaning to the text Which is how we began our episode today if we bring our glasses that see everything through the lens of Judah Judaism all that stuff if we bring that to the text, of course, we're gonna misunderstand part of the reason why
I do this show is so that I can help as many people as I possibly can take off the
Old glasses and just see what the Bible is saying. I Hope that this episode has been helpful.
I hope that it's shown even though 10 episodes could have been known in Romans 11. I Hope that when you read it now, you see what
Paul is talking about You see the argument and you understand that the old world has collapsed the new world has come
You are new world citizens and it's your job to make this world look like Jesus won't sit and with that I want to say
God richly bless you. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of the broadcast
