Night of Praise (Sunday Night, October 25 PM)

Good evening Sunnyside. This was just a mic test. Can y 'all hear it? Well we haven't done this in too long and so we're glad to do this and for all of you here in the live flesh and for those of you watching on live stream that was an echo through the iPhone if you didn't hear that.

I just want to welcome you and thank you for those who are participating this evening. I know many of you practiced and were prepared. I do have instructions for you those of you who are participating.

So if you have the order of service the person in front of you when they come down to go to the stage would you go ahead you behind them go ahead and sit down front that way we don't have a lag between those times.

Okay does that make sense? Okay well we want to start this evening with a song that was requested. How many of you in this room remember Doris Holman? Doris was Patti Hines mom and it was her favorite song and we want to start with that that song and we're gonna be in hymn number 59.

So anytime during our music times when a request would take Doris would never state the word the name of the song. She'd just go 59 and so it was always fun to have her do that. So we're gonna start with the first we'll sing the three verses and if you would we'll let you sit for now but we will be standing later all right.

Y 'all good with that? Oh look we've got a special guest with us tonight. I sing the mighty God spread the flowing.

1 Samuel 29–30 and David Strengthening Himself in the Lord

Scripture reading tonight it's from 1st Samuel chapter 29 through chapter 30.

Verse 6. Now the Philistines had gathered all their forces at Aphek and the Israelites were encamped by the spring that is in Jezreel. As the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands and David and his men were passing on in the rear with Achish the commanders of the Philistines said what are these Hebrews doing here?

And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines is this not David the servant of Saul king of Israel who has been with me now for days and years. And since he deserted to me I have found no fault in him to this day.

But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him and the commanders of the Philistines said to him send the man back that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him. He shall not go down with us to battle lest in the battle he become an adversary to us.

For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his Lord. Would it not be with the heads of the men. Here is not this David of whom they sing to one another in dances. Saul has struck down his thousands and David his ten thousands.

Then Achish called David and said to him as the Lord lives you have been honest and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign for I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to this day.

Nevertheless the Lord's do not approve of you. So go back now and go peaceably that you may not displease the Lords of the Philistines. And David said to Achish but what have I done. What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now that I may not go and fight against the enemies of the Lord the King.

And Achish answered David and said I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God. Nevertheless the commanders of the Philistines have said he shall not go up with us to the battle now.

Then rise early in the morning with the servants of your Lord who came with you and start early in the morning and depart as soon as you have light. So David set out with his men early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines.

But the Philistines went up to Jezreel. Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negev and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fire and taken captive the women and all who were in it both small and great they killed no one but carried them off and went their way.

And when David and his men came to the city they found it burned with fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep.

David's two wives also had been taken captive Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel. And David was greatly distressed for the people spoke of stoning him because all the people were bitter in soul each for his sons and daughters.

But David strengthened himself and the Lord his God. May the Lord bless the reading of his word. Let us pray father I thank you and I praise you for your word as you have recorded it for us to enlighten us and to be an encouragement to us.

And I thank you for these words regarding your servant David the king. I thank you for his life and the fact that he was a man after your own heart and I pray for each of us. Likewise may we each of us be people after your heart.

May there be nothing on earth. We desire besides you bless our time together tonight. Help us to sing for your glory. And I pray for each person that's going to share with us tonight that you bless their efforts to bring you praise and glory and honor in Jesus precious name.

Congregational Singing and Requests

He said we just pray to teach you a lesson.

I had a lot of songs on my heart. I like to sing praises to him and the more you know Jesus the more you want to be like him. So that's the song I'm going to sing.

Oh to be like thee this is my car. A couple other songs that the Lord put on.

My heart under his wings. I think the words are going to be up there but you know this was written by a preacher that was told one day that he can't preach anymore and that's hard for a preacher that's hard for a singer saying you can't sing anymore.

He decided that the Lord had something else for him to do. He started writing music and words and this is one of his songs and everybody loves it and loves to sing it because he's going to take care of us no matter what.

Because I sent these words to you right after tag was over. Glorify thy name it's.

Paul you get ready. So 56 how many remember our dear sister Jeanette. Jeanette Renfro love this song and another request by my Patty and so we wanted to honor that request so it's day by day versus one and two day by day.

I've done a lot of singing and praising the Lord. I've done a lot of praying to someday. My prayers gonna come to an end but I'll sing with the faithful and true gonna lay aside every burden I bear. Everything that's caused me to pray.

I'll join in the heavenly choir up above and sing on in glory someday. And oh what a wonderful wonderful day. That day is gonna be when all God's children are all gathered home. We'll be shouting out the victory hallelujah.

A Testimony About Singing, Calling, and God's Care

I went to El Reno back in 2000. We just don't talk right now. You bum fuzz with me. Just problem. But after a couple of years there we inherited a wonderful deacon from another church. It was Henry Moore.

He's an M and JKM jewelry if you ever go over there. And Henry unfortunately died two or three years later and I preached his funeral. But this song that we're about you're about to sing with me. I learned it when we went there.

And of course at that church I had to do my own music so I don't want to send him play the piano for everything. So I bought a keyboard and made arrangements where I could just push a button and this song came out with.

It's going to have a rhythm you've never heard before I don't think. But after Henry came he pretty soon became one of the men that took up the offering. So three of our guys will be standing in the back and if I play this song Henry man he'd be going.

So I've nicknamed it the Henry Moore two-step and I want you to stand up if you will. There are five verses and we're going to do the first verse again at the end and you'll see the reason when you hear we're gonna have words on the screen.

Congregational Resolve to Follow Christ

Congregational piece is I am resolved. This is a song that Vonnie brought to our attention and I understand that within the congregation there should be some parts that rise. I think there's some bases maybe that might sing three or four.

I'm not sure but this is I am resolved. And if you would stand and we're going to sing the first the third and the fifth. Now you don't have this music in hand but it's up on on top all right.
