- If you're in either of those two categories, I hope that when you hear a topic on which you have an opinion or habit, you'll at least seek to understand the conclusions and reasons for them.
- 00:10
- Parenting isn't about us. In fact, parenting isn't even about our kids. Parenting is just one way
- 00:16
- Christian dads and moms are to worship God. So welcome to the Truth Love Parent podcast, where we train dads and moms to give
- 00:23
- God the preeminence in their parenting. Season 31 has come to a close and we're pressing forward into season 32.
- 00:31
- We've been podcasting since 2016 and have almost 600 podcast episodes, the vast majority of which have free episode notes, a transcript, and links to so many related resources.
- 00:42
- We try our hardest to professionally curate cross -referenced lists of topics, series, and episodes so that you can deepen and widen your study in whatever ways suit you best.
- 00:51
- But we also have the Evermind app with a bunch more resources, both free and paid.
- 00:57
- Suffice it to say, there are hundreds and hundreds of hours of audio content, all evergreen and all right there for you to search and enjoy.
- 01:06
- And that's why we exist, really, when you think about it. We want to glorify God to equip dads and moms to worship
- 01:12
- Him with their parenting. It's our joy and privilege to walk this road with you and your kids. Now, if you're just joining us for the first time,
- 01:20
- I'm your host, Aaron Michael Brewster. I'm a biblical counselor. I have 20 years of experience in family counseling and I specialize in working with hurting, broken, and at -risk families.
- 01:30
- In fact, it's my extensive work with these families that enables me to help other families to see the warning signs.
- 01:36
- The reason so many people don't look for help until they're so far down the line and there's already so much pain is that they didn't realize things were as bad as they were or that they were going to get worse.
- 01:46
- But what if someone could help you see the potential issues long before the pain and scars and brokenness?
- 01:52
- What if you could learn now the things you may one day wish you had learned earlier? I can't tell you how many people
- 01:59
- I've met who've told me, I wish I had known this years ago. Well, you can, and I pray that countless parents across the globe will take advantage of these biblical parenting resources.
- 02:11
- Now for the past two seasons, we've published long series. Two seasons ago, there was the
- 02:16
- Parenting Your Kids to Adulthood and Parenting Sorrowing Children series, and that was in season 30, and season 31 was all about how your children respond to sin.
- 02:25
- But this season, we're going to cover a wide variety of issues and questions in single episode formats.
- 02:30
- But before I dive into the details of each episode, let me first tell you about another resource of ours. It's called
- 02:36
- Quit! How to Stop Family Strife for Good, and it's my newest book. A reader once said that it's a short 100 -page book with 500 pages of content.
- 02:45
- In it, we talk about the creators of strife, the consequences of strife, the cause of strife, and a cure for strife.
- 02:52
- Now, if you've already read the book, will you please go to Amazon and leave a five -star review?
- 02:58
- That will help more and more people find the book online. It's really an important part of the Amazon experience.
- 03:03
- If you haven't yet read the book, please buy a copy from Amazon and then leave a five -star review. Quit! How to Stop Family Strife for Good is a practical, biblical look into God's cure for the strife in your family.
- 03:16
- Now, let's get a taste of our topics for this upcoming season. We're going to talk about how parenting isn't your purpose, and we're going to open the scriptures to better understand what our purpose really is and how parenting interacts with it.
- 03:29
- Now, that may seem a bit esoteric, and it probably could be, depending on the audience, but we're also going to talk about super practical stuff as well.
- 03:35
- For example, our next episode is going to ask and answer the question, should I give my child an allowance?
- 03:42
- We're also going to dive into various reasons your child didn't do what you asked them to do. Now, this list may be very different from what the world may postulate.
- 03:50
- We're going to consider the biblical reasons your child didn't do what he or she was asked and how we need to parent them differently based on the reasons.
- 03:58
- I also look forward to tackling the topic of your kids and children's church. Some of your churches have a different program for the kids than they do for the adults.
- 04:06
- Some have all the ages in the same service together. What are the pros? What are the cons? And what may be the best idea for your family?
- 04:14
- Now, many people listen to podcasts because they're looking for answers to their questions. They have zero preconceived notions and they're curious what someone else is going to say.
- 04:23
- However, many times people are also seeking podcasts that will further affirm what they already believe.
- 04:29
- And yet there are others who like to listen to podcasts with which they know they're going to disagree. Well, if you're in either of those last two categories,
- 04:37
- I hope that when you hear a topic on which you have an opinion or a habit, I hope you'll at least seek to understand the conclusions and reasons for them.
- 04:45
- That way you may be surprised. You may find something that you didn't realize instead of just going in convinced that you know exactly what the situation is.
- 04:53
- We're also going to talk about show and tell parenting. We're going to look at how Jesus was a show and tell leader and seek to implement that style into our parenting.
- 05:01
- Then we're going to talk about the difference between discipline and punishment, as well as the necessary relationship between discipline and the gospel.
- 05:07
- Those two episodes should be a great continuation of our consequences series. The next show is going to be entitled escapism versus reflection.
- 05:17
- There's this thing most parents do with their kids that may result in either escapism or reflection, but which one is it going to be?
- 05:24
- Too often we don't know. So how do we help our kids do the one and not the other? There's a well -known passage in scripture that seems to compare children to arrows, and I can't tell you how many sermons and lessons
- 05:35
- I've heard that extrapolate out the arrow imagery. Well, now it's truth love parents turn. We're going to answer the question, where do you aim the arrow?
- 05:43
- And I'm looking forward to this episode for so many reasons, the least of which actually has to do with answering the question at hand.
- 05:51
- Now, those of you who have kids who are really challenging or those of you whose kids could legitimately be described as prodigals will be encouraged by the episode entitled, what does having a prodigal say about your parenting?
- 06:03
- Then we're going to talk about how it's really hard to push a rope. I'll just leave your imagination to have fun with the topic of that episode.
- 06:10
- And then we'll end off this string of biblical parenting topics, talking about your child and self -esteem.
- 06:16
- And we hope and strive to do all of that from a biblical perspective. We desperately want to understand our lives through the lens of scripture and pursue
- 06:23
- God's will for how we are to live them. So I hope you're excited about doing that and will plan to join us on season 32.
- 06:30
- And I hope you'll tell your friends about this podcast and invite them to subscribe and listen. Every parent needs to understand what our purpose is, and we'll all be better parents when we parent in light of it.
- 06:40
- So I'll see you next time. Truth Love Parent is part of the Evermind Ministries family and is dedicated to helping you worship
- 06:48
- God through your parenting. So join us next time as we study God's word to learn how to parent our children for life and godliness.
