How To Get Pastors Involved

Engaging Pastors for Pro-Life Cultural Action

One of the most difficult groups of people in America to reach today with a message of life and of cultural engagement are pastors, ironically. Pastors are busy, pastors are constantly under pressure, and pastors are notoriously disengaged from the wider world focused on their local church bubble.

So reaching pastors has to be a high priority for the pro-life movement, and it doesn't come by simply having one or two meetings with a pastor with fervent pleas to get engaged. It comes through invitations to lunch, to coffee, opportunities to go before city council meetings when, say, a pro-life advocate is speaking so that they can see it firsthand.

It's got to be a whole life engagement, and we've got to be in it for the long haul. We've got to recognize that the vested interests of many churches, particularly large and prosperous churches, are so bureaucratic in their structure and so focused on the interior that the pastors wind up not being engaged in much else.

We need to draw them out, and we need to draw them out winsomely, effectively, and consistently.
