Joe Rogan finally admitted that Christianity has truth in it. But this opens the door to a fundamental question that SOMEBODY needs to ask Rogan! But nobody’s doing it! I mean, if he’s as close to the Kingdom as he appears to be, somebody needs to step up and ask him this question! Let's get into it... Joe Rogan finally admitted that the Bible has truth in it. Watch this. Regardless of whether or not you think illogically, these things took place.
00:09
Logically, these stories are a completely accurate depiction of exactly that. If you follow the principles, it's incredibly beneficial to your spiritual life as a person.
00:20
Well, that's a kind of interesting proof, isn't it? Yeah. It means that there's truth in it. But this opens the door to a fundamental question that somebody needs to ask
00:28
Rogan, but nobody's doing it. I mean, if he's as close to the kingdom as he appears to be, somebody needs to step up and ask him this question.
00:35
What is that question? And will Jordan Peterson be the one to ask it? We're about to get right into it. So here we go. Welcome back to Wise Disciple.
00:45
My name is Nate, and I'm helping you become the effective Christian that you were meant to be, which includes understanding what to do with somebody like Joe Rogan, who now is admitting that the
00:55
Bible is filled with truth. Make sure to like, sub, and share this one around, but only if it blesses you. I don't know what sense to make out of the metaphysics of the religious realm, you know, because that's beyond me and everyone.
01:06
The world's a strange place, and we could leave it at that. Well, let's not leave it at that, you know?
01:14
Why should we leave it at that? Look, I've been vocal about my concerns that Jordan Peterson doesn't fully capture the
01:22
Christian message for others when he has conversations, okay? That he tends to metaphorize or allegorize the content of Christianity into ways that better fit into his psychological expertise.
01:35
So I'm not going to go there today. And also, I don't want you to hear me saying that this is all just a complete waste of time.
01:42
It's not, you know? Joe Rogan is not far from the kingdom, in my estimation. And for good reason, it's because of people like Jordan Peterson, who are passionate about the
01:50
Bible. They're trying to make sense of it from their own perspective, okay? So if I'm saying something or I'm pointing something out, it's not because it's all bad, all right?
01:58
I just think it's time to start asking Joe Rogan some serious questions. And I'll show you what I mean in just a moment.
02:04
But the idea that, see, Christ is the exemplar of voluntary self -sacrifice, right?
02:10
Won't turn to power, won't deviate from his course, faces the worst of all possible deaths, descends to hell itself.
02:16
That's the pattern of life lived with no reserve. And that's the foundation of the free state. That's right.
02:21
I tried that on Brett, hey? He told me when we first met on the tour that he felt that the biblical narratives were anachronistic, you know, that they were written in a time that was no longer relevant to us.
02:32
But he decided by the end of our three days together that if you got to the core of the message, it's alive, right?
02:40
That's the living spirit inside the bush, you might say. And that it's, so here's even the weirder thing. So imagine, it's pretty obvious that Christ is a symbol of voluntary self -sacrifice, right?
02:50
I don't think it doesn't really come as a shock to anyone, but the - Christ is a symbol of voluntary self -sacrifice.
03:00
To what end? For what purpose? You see how that important part is left out of the discussion?
03:07
I mean, that's what I mean. I mean, this happens all the time with Peterson. The weird thing is, you know, we put that symbol at the center of our churches and at the centers of our towns for 2000 years, not really knowing why.
03:20
And the reason is, is that voluntary self -sacrifice is the foundation of the integrated psyche and the stable, productive, and abundant community.
03:28
And that's right. It's right. And so, well, it's been exciting to have the opportunity over the last nine months to go talk to people about that, because I've talked to about 150 ,000 people,
03:40
I guess, public lectures. That to me is one of the most fascinating aspects of Christianity, regardless of whether or not you think logically these things took place.
03:49
Logically, these stories are a completely accurate depiction of exactly that.
03:55
If you follow the principles, it's incredibly beneficial to your spiritual life as a person.
04:01
So if you follow the principles, you will benefit from it. Okay. There's a question that follows from this though, you know, and I'm wondering if you're catching it, right?
04:13
Are you, are you starting to see, I hope Peterson points this out, but let's see what happens.
04:19
Well, that's a kind of interesting proof, isn't it? Because it means that - There's truth in it. Well, there's certainly the spirit that makes, what would you say?
04:27
The spirit of truth that makes life more abundant. That's exactly right. And these are weird stories because the way they're true is very sophisticated.
04:35
They're true always. And that's different than a story about the past. Like the truest story is always happening.
04:41
The story of Moses is exactly like that. Like the pattern of leadership development that's embedded in the
04:46
Exodus story. That is how leaders develop. If they're real leaders and their temptation is power, but that's not their motivation.
04:53
That's their temptation, right? That's a very important distinction. And that's always the case with leaders. And if they fall prey to the temptation of power, no matter what their accomplishments, they're not going to complete the task.
05:03
And so there's a cool element at the end of that story too. You know, when Moses, just before Moses dies, he picks a scout from each tribe, 12 tribes, and he sends them to Canaan, which is the future.
05:14
That's a good way of thinking about it. I'm listening out for the question. Help me.
05:19
Help me if you hear the question that should be coming. It's the potential place we could reside where everything was worked out.
05:25
The land of milk and honey. He sends 12 scouts there. And 10 of them come back and say, they tell a fear story.
05:32
Say it's insurmountable, the challenges that lie ahead of us. There's no way we can master this. We should have never crossed the desert.
05:38
We should have stayed under the thumbs of the tyrants. We should have never tried to be anything more than slaves because now we're doomed. And two of them say, if we maintain our upward orientation and our covenant, nothing can stand in our way.
05:51
We can make the deserts bloom. Moses dies. Those two scouts. And so do all the Israelites who are convinced by the unfaithful scouts.
05:58
And the scouts die. And the two people who go on to the promised land are Caleb and Joshua.
06:04
And they lead the Israelites, the faithful Israelites into the promised land. Those are the people who have the courage to confront the future in a faithful end.
06:11
Yeah. Okay. So it looks like Peterson's not gonna ask. The question, which is a shame, but not surprising, right?
06:19
I mean, like I said, Peterson has different focal points with regard to talking about the
06:25
Bible and Christianity. By the way, did you catch the opportunity to ask a certain question? Let me know in the comments, if you did,
06:31
I'd love to see what you come up with. Okay. Let me give you my answer. All right. Actually, let me back up and start here.
06:38
The Bible itself is not listing out a series of ethical axioms. You know, it's establishing a worldview based on metaphysical claims that all took place at certain points in the past in history, right?
06:53
I'm talking about miracles. I'm talking about the Israelites escaping Egypt. I'm talking about the prophets warning people at various times.
07:00
I'm talking about Jesus walking the earth. And we know this because the nature of the writing of scripture.
07:09
Okay. But even the writers themselves will occasionally admit this. Look at the way that Paul says it.
07:14
First Corinthians 15, 14. If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.
07:22
We are even found to be misrepresenting God because we testified about God that he raised
07:27
Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even
07:33
Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
07:40
Does that sound like a bunch of ethical principles that the Bible is concerned with? No, this is an established worldview rooted in metaphysical claims, like Jesus Christ is
07:53
God, that he was raised from the dead for your sins, right? The problem with seeing the scripture as a few principles to follow, but also, oh yeah, there's this other stuff that may or may not have happened in history.
08:11
The problem with that is you have no criteria to determine which stuff to take seriously in the Bible and which stuff to disregard, if that's your view, you know?
08:19
But it gets even worse than that. The Bible itself is telling you that it's more than a set of ethical principles.
08:27
Look at how Jesus talks about this in John 14. John 14, six,
08:33
Jesus said to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.
08:41
By the way, you know that word, truth in the Greek, it refers to reality. Think about that, you know, some of you are like Joe Rogan.
08:51
Some of you watching this video, you see the benefits of Christianity and the ethics and the principles that flow out of this writing, but you're trying to reduce the scripture down way too much.
09:02
It's not merely about ethics, even though, of course, valuable ethics that do benefit society flows out of the teaching of the
09:10
Bible. It's actually not a book of ethical axioms. It's a book containing the special revelation of God as he appeals to mankind to return to him, to return to Eden, you know, to what once was in the garden between mankind and God, you know?
09:31
Look, even here in John 14, like, so Jesus is talking in verse six, but that's after he tells his disciples that he's going to prepare a place for them.
09:42
Look at this. Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. In my father's house are many rooms.
09:49
If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you,
09:56
I will come again and will take you to myself that where I am, you may be also.
10:04
Do you see how Jesus is talking about something that he is going to do for them and it's going to objectively apply to them.
10:14
Again, you know, this isn't a fortune cookie that is like telling you how to be a successful entrepreneur or something.
10:21
This is Jesus promising that what he will do for his people will mean that they can all be together again.
10:27
You know, he even talks in a, he sorts of lays out a conditional in verse two there. If it were not so, would
10:33
I have told you this? You know what I mean? Like, in other words, this is true. It really is something that I am going to do.
10:42
I'm going to prepare a place for you. And then I'm gonna come back and get you. And guess what? It hinges on believing in God, believing in Jesus, right?
10:50
That's verse one. And knowing that he is the truth and that's verse six, right?
10:57
So what do we do with somebody like Joe Rogan, right? Here's what somebody should say to him, right?
11:04
And who knows, maybe Wes Huff can go back on, right? Wes, if you're watching, I'm proud of you, brother. If Joe Rogan already sees that Christianity contains truth and that its principles are beneficial, well, then here's the philosophical tension, right?
11:21
Truth by its nature demands a response. Truth is not a piece of jewelry.
11:28
It's not something to just admire from a distance. If it's true that Jesus is who he claimed to be, the son of God, the savior of the world, we're not simply dealing with helpful ideas.
11:38
We're dealing with a living reality that places a claim on your life. That's what
11:44
Jesus claimed about himself. He is the truth. C .S. Lewis has a great quote on this.
11:51
He said that Christianity, if false, is of no importance, but if true, is of infinite importance.
11:59
The one thing that it cannot be is kind of important, right? Or a little bit important, this much important, right?
12:07
No, if the moral framework, the vision of the good life and the redemptive narrative, they all resonate with you,
12:14
Joe Rogan, then perhaps it's time to ask the question, what is stopping you from embracing not just the ethics of Jesus, but the person of Jesus?
12:23
The Jesus who invites us all to know him on his own terms. Not how we categorize him in today's culture, not some of the beneficial things that he says, everything about him.
12:36
Admiring the teachings without following the teacher is like praising the concept of light while you're still walking in the dark, right?
12:45
The good life, according to Jesus, is not just about principles. It's about being transformed, transformed in relationship with him.
12:53
You know, the Bible describes it like this. Romans 8, 29, for those who before knew, he also predestined, here it is, to be conformed to the image of his son.
13:05
And that's the journey for all of us as Christians, for all of us who not only see the benefits of God's word, but we recognize it for what it is.
13:13
You know, it's an invitation to know the God who is there and to be known by him in return.
13:20
You know, this is an interpersonal relationship with the creator of the world who made you, he made me.
13:28
And he desires for us to know him and to love him. The truth is, the
13:33
Bible is not merely a set of ethics. It's God's special revelation about himself. So if you see the truth,
13:43
Joe, what's holding you back from fully embracing it? Or should I say fully embracing him?
13:51
Amen? All right. Kind of a short video for you today. The whole conversation with Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson is fascinating.
13:58
It always is when Peterson gets on with Rogan. So as per usual, it did not disappoint.
