Hebrews chapter 11, we'll break in at verse 4. Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 4. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts, and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death and was not found because God had translated him. For before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
By faith Noah being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by the which he condemned the world, became heir of righteousness, which is by faith.
Now back to the Old Testament. Genesis chapter 5, read from verse 22. And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty and five years.
And Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him. Now back to chapter 4 and read from verse 3. For in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
And Abel he also brought of the firstlings of his flock, and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering. But God, but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wrought, and his countenance fell.
And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wrought, and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted, and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, and unto thee shall his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Now the Lord will bless to us the reading of his precious word. And what we have already heard in the fore part of this conference, I think that the ministry at this conference has been real soul searching for every one of us.
And that's the kind of ministry that we really like at a conference. And we also like the encouraging messages that was given as well. Now here we see in this here portion of God's Word in Hebrews chapter 11.
This first part here, these three that I read about today, that was in the Antiluvian time. And the few at this time were doing what the rest of the world was not interested in doing. And when I think of this here portion of God's Word, we think of Abel, and we think of Enoch, and we think of Noah.
And I used to be a person that thought that the gospel was first. And I used to think that prayer was come next. And then I thought worship come. But when I read the book of Hebrews here in chapter 11, I found out that worship is first.
That Abel, he worshiped God, and then Enoch walked with God. Enoch was one that pleased God. And then we see that Noah witnessed for God. So these are some things that we can keep in our mind. Thanks be to God for everyone that is witnessing for God today.
But I think of Abel, at a set time he brought an offering. He brought the first sling of the flock. That was something that was ever before him. And as he watched that first lamb fall to the ground, and he thought of that little lamb, and it brought before him the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.
And I don't know if you have ever thought about that, and I'm sure you all have. And when I think of that, how that must have touched his heart. And he thought to take care of that lamb the best he knew how.
And then there was a set time that he was going to bring that offering on to the Lord. And you know every one of us, and this should touch every one of us this afternoon here at this conference, that having the Lord before us and wanting to bring offering a sacrifice unto Him.
When I heard the worship this morning from all our brethren that rose to their feet to worship, it really touched my heart this morning. How that some brethren's hearts just warmed up in worship to the very God of heaven for what He did for us at the cross of Calvary.
And I think this is the same thing with Abel. He was looking forward to the One who was coming into this world to be the Savior of sinners. They were looking forward to that. We look back to a finished work.
They were looking forward to something that was going to take place. But here is Abel. He had a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. This sacrifice that he offered unto the Lord. My, that must have been very touching to him that day when that sacrifice was accepted by God.
He just, it just was overwhelming to him. But then we see here, by faith, Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. When I think of that verse number six today, without faith it is impossible to please God.
Isn't that wonderful? It's totally impossible to please God without faith. Now when I think of Cain and his sacrifice and God did not accept it. And why was not his sacrifice accepted? When you think of that today, that touches one's heart as well.
Cain brought the till of the soil, but Abel brought a lamb. He brought a sacrifice. He had a blood sacrifice. There was a death in his sacrifice. And that was what was before Abel that there was a death coming someday that he was going to put his faith in.
And Abel, the reason he made that kind of an offering, he already had faith in God. My, isn't that wonderful? As we sat this morning to offer up our praise to the one who redeemed us by his precious blood.
That faith that we received that moment when God made us to realize that we were only sinners in the eyes of a holy God. And it made us to realize that that's just exactly what the Lord Jesus accomplished at the cross of Calvary.
He put away our sin by the sacrifice of himself. And we know that he paid a debt he did not owe. He paid that great debt of sin that we could be redeemed back to God. We're a privileged people this afternoon and I don't want to be up here too long.
But then it says an excellent sacrifice. A more excellent sacrifice. When I think of Abel having that excellent sacrifice, I sometimes my mind goes to Daniel. The man of Daniel. He had a more excellent spirit than anyone else ever had.
But here's a man who had an excellent sacrifice. And then it says here, witness that he was righteous. God testifying of his gifts. My, that touches my heart. Here was a man who had a more excellent sacrifice.
And then he was righteous. And then he was redeemed. Isn't that wonderful? I wonder today, this afternoon, when I think of that verse of which he obtained witness that he was righteous. God testifying of his gifts by it he being dead yet speaking.
Could that be said of God, of us? That we live a righteous life? Am I living a life that is pleasing to God? Everything in my life that I've ever done since I've been saved, could I say that I'm living a righteous life?
Now we know we all have our ups and downs. But am I living an upright life? Am I living a righteous life? Here was a man who lived a righteous life. God testifying of his gifts. And even though he's dead, yet he speaks.
My, how oft times we have spoken about Abel in the Gospel. Bringing the right sacrifice, having faith in God. And we think of Cain. He brought the wrong sacrifice and he was not accepted. But if he would have done well, God said, if thou do us well, shalt thou not be accepted.
I'm not going to go into that today. But then I think of the man Enoch. He walked by faith. And you know, he had a son, Methuselah, at the age of 65 years old. And then that's when that man began to walk for God.
Isn't that wonderful? After he brought a child into this world, he saw the importance of walking for God. Every one of us, when we brought a family into this world, we've seen the privilege that we have to walk for God and to be a testimony for that family.
You know, there was a couple or several people walking through a dense forest one time. And all of a sudden they saw a bird up in the tree. And as that bird was up in the tree, they watched it. And all of a sudden it started fluttering its wings and its little feathers just stuck out on it.
And it just made a tremendous tantrum. And they watched it. And all of a sudden the bird flew away. And it didn't take long, the bird came back. And it had a leaf in its mouth. And it put that leaf right on top of the nest where her little offsprings were in.
And it flew away again. Came back again. Did it three different times. And put that little leaf on top of that nest. Completely covered that nest. And then it went over into a place and it just sat there and watched.
And here come a great big snake up that tree. And the moment that snake looked into that nest and saw those poisonous leaves, that snake just fell out of that tree. What was that little bird doing? He was protecting his offsprings.
I tell you dear ones this afternoon, we should protect our offsprings. When we think of our families being brought into this world, what a joy it is to see one after another reached and saved. That's the main thing that we bring children into this world for.
That we might have to see the day when we see them in heaven. And when I think of Enoch here, he walked with God. And it mentions he walked with God for 300 and some years. When you consider that. And he pleased God.
It doesn't say that he walked a righteous life, but he pleased God and that would be righteous. Dear ones this afternoon, are we walking in a manner that is really pleasing the God of heaven? I think this should examine every one of us and examine myself this afternoon as well.
Without faith it is impossible to please God. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission. And without God, without me, you can do nothing. And that's a verse in John chapter 15. But here we have the man Noah.
Noah being warned of God of things. Not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and became heir of righteousness which is by faith. Think of that man building an ark.
Here was a man who was forgiven. He was a man who was very faithful. He was a man who was very fruitful. He wasn't only forgiven. He wasn't only faithful. But he was a fruitful man. He saw his family brought in the ark.
When I think of that and he was a man who found grace in the eyes of God. Now wonderful when we can find grace in the eyes of God. Here's a man when he found grace in the eyes of God. What did God tell him?
He told him to build an ark to the saving of his family. And what did Noah do? You know in those days it wasn't so easy to build an ark. They didn't have chainsaws in that day. I don't think. He had to go out to the timber.
He had to cut down. He had to hew out these logs. He built that ark. He was at it for a hundred and twenty years. But he was a man and dear ones this afternoon when I think of Noah there. He was a man who I would say loved his wife because it was to the saving of his house.
Now I would like to challenge our hearts this afternoon. Noah here is a man who loved his wife. Could I ask you this afternoon do you love your wife? Do you cherish her? I'll tell you with the bottom of my heart I love my wife.
And I think there's a lot here today that really love their wives. Now what I can't understand in the day and age that we're living in why we see so many things that happen. Among us is the people of God as well putting away our wives.
Dear ones this afternoon the day that I was married my wife and I were joined together or my girlfriend and I were joined together. With no uncertain terms I knew that when I was joined to my partner that it was for life.
Is that the way you found out? With no uncertain terms it was for life and that's what I want it to be. And I'm doing everything that I can do to please my wife too. I don't know about you they say when you know when we're going with our girlfriends that we put on our best and we take them out banana split and we do this and we do that.
But then after we get married that all stops. Why should that stop? It should continue. But he loved his wife so much that he was going to build an ark for her. And he loved his sons so much that he was going to build an ark for them.
And the day came when he built that ark. And then he had three daughters in laws that he built the ark for. And one day God says to Noah come thou and thy family into the ark. What a day that must have been for Noah to walk into that ark with all his family.
Wouldn't that have been wonderful in the day to come when the Lord comes to take us home that all our family will be gathered in? Is that what we're here for? I'll tell you that's what we're here for dear brothers and sisters.
And at this time the Antiluvians there was only a few that were doing what the rest of the world was not interested in doing. What are we doing today? May these few words touch our hearts.
