00:08
Joshua 24, Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and their judges, and their officers.
00:19
And they presented themselves before God. And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says
00:25
Yahweh, the God of Israel, From ancient times your fathers lived beyond the river, namely
00:30
Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor, and they served other gods.
00:36
Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the river, and led him through all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him
00:44
Isaac. To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau, and to Esau I gave Mount Sair to possess it.
00:50
But Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt. Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I smote
00:56
Egypt by what I did in its midst, and afterward I brought you out. And I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea.
01:05
And Egypt pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea. Then they cried out to Yahweh, He put darkness between you and the
01:14
Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them. And your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt, and you lived in the wilderness for many days.
01:23
Then I brought you into the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan, and they fought with you. And I gave them into your hand, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.
01:34
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel, and he sent and summoned
01:41
Balaam the son of Baor to curse you. But I was not willing to listen to Balaam, so he blessed you repeatedly, and I delivered you from his hand.
01:50
And you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho, and the citizens of Jericho fought against you, and the
01:56
Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Gergeshite, the Hivite, and the
02:02
Jebusite. Thus I gave them into your hand. Then I sent the Hornet before you, and it drove out the two kings of the
02:09
Amorites from before you, but not by your sword or your bow. And I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you had not built, and you lived in them.
02:20
You were eating of vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant. So now, fear
02:26
Yahweh, and serve him in integrity and truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the river and in Egypt, and serve
02:34
Yahweh. If it is evil in your sight to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the river, or the gods of the
02:46
Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve
02:52
Yahweh. And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake
02:57
Yahweh to serve other gods. For Yahweh our God is he who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and who did these great signs in our sight, and kept us through all the way in which we went, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.
03:16
And Yahweh drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites who lived in the land.
03:22
We also will serve Yahweh, for he is our God. Then Joshua said to the people,
03:28
You will not be able to serve Yahweh, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God.
03:33
He will not forgive your transgression or your sins. If you forsake Yahweh and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you after he has done good to you.
03:45
And the people said to Joshua, No, but we will serve Yahweh. And Joshua said to the people,
03:52
You were witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen for yourselves Yahweh to serve him. And they said,
03:58
We are witnesses. So now put away the foreign gods which are in your midst, and incline your hearts to Yahweh, the
04:05
God of Israel. And the people said to Joshua, We will serve Yahweh our God, and we will listen to his voice.
04:13
So Joshua cut a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and a judgment in Shechem.
04:20
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and he took a large stone and set it up there under the yoke that was by the sanctuary of Yahweh.
04:29
And Joshua said to all the people, Behold, this stone shall be for a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh which he spoke to us.
04:40
Thus it shall be for a witness against you, lest you deny your God. Then Joshua dismissed the people, each to his inheritance.
04:49
Now it happened that after these things, Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old.
04:57
And they buried him in the territory of his inheritance, in Timnath Sarai, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gash.
05:07
And Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who survived
05:12
Joshua, who knew all the work of Yahweh which he had done for Israel. Now they buried the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up from Egypt, at Shechem, in the portion of the field which
05:24
Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred kezetah.
05:30
And they became the inheritance of Joseph's sons. And Eleazar the son of Aaron died, and they buried him at Gibeah of Phinehas' son, which was given him in the hill country of Ephraim.
05:46
Acts 4. Now as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the
05:53
Sadducees came up to them, being greatly agitated because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
06:01
And they laid hands on them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening.
06:07
But many of those who had heard the message believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.
06:14
Now it happened that on the next day their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.
06:21
And Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of high priestly descent.
06:28
And when they had placed them in their midst, they began to inquire, By what power or in what name have you done this?
06:35
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers and elders of the people,
06:41
If we are being examined today for a good deed done to a sick man, as to how this man has been saved from his sickness, let it be known to all of you and to all of the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the
06:55
Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this name this man stands here before you in good health.
07:03
He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief cornerstone.
07:09
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.
07:18
Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John, and comprehended that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were marveling, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.
07:31
And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. But when they had ordered them to leave the
07:39
Sanhedrin, they began to confer with one another, saying, What should we do with these men?
07:44
For the fact that a noteworthy sign has happened through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
07:52
But lest it spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man in this name.
07:59
And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
08:05
But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hear you rather than God, you be the judge.
08:14
For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard. And when they had threatened them further, they let them go, finding no basis on which to punish them, on account of the people, because they were all glorifying
08:27
God for what had happened. For the man was more than forty years old on whom this sign of healing had occurred.
08:34
So when they were released, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
08:42
And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God with one accord and said, O Master, it is you who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, who by the
08:53
Holy Spirit through the mouth of our father David your servant said, Why did the Gentiles rage and the peoples devise vain things?
09:02
The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the
09:07
Lord and against his Christ. For truly in this city they were gathered together against your holy servant
09:13
Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the
09:18
Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your purpose predestined to occur.
09:25
And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that your slaves may speak your word with all confidence, while you extend your hand to heal, and signs and wonders happen through the name of your holy servant
09:38
Jesus. And when they had prayed earnestly, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the
09:46
Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with confidence. And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and not one was saying that any of his possessions was his own, but for them everything was common.
10:01
And with great power the apostles were bearing witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
10:09
For there was not a needy person among them, for all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales and lay them at the apostles' feet, and they would be distributed to each as any had need.
10:23
Now Joseph, a Levite of Cyprian birth, who was also called Barnabas by the apostles, which translated means son of encouragement, and who owned a field, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.
10:41
Jeremiah 13 Thus Yahweh said to me, Go and buy yourself a linen belt and put it around your loins, but do not put it in water.
10:50
So I bought the belt in accordance with the word of Yahweh and put it around my loins. Then the word of Yahweh came to me a second time, saying,
10:59
Take the belt that you have bought, which is around your loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a crevice of the rock.
11:07
So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me. Now it happened that after many days
11:13
Yahweh said to me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the belt which
11:18
I commanded you to hide there. Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the belt from the place where I had hidden it, and behold, the belt was ruined, it was totally worthless.
11:29
Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, Thus says Yahweh, Just so will
11:34
I ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem, this evil people, who refuse to listen to my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have walked after other gods to serve them and to worship them, let them be just like this belt which is totally worthless.
11:51
For as the belt clings to the loins of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to me, declares
11:59
Yahweh, that they might be for me a people, for a name, for praise and for beauty, but they did not listen.
12:07
Therefore you are to say this word to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Every jug is to be filled with wine.
12:14
And they will say to you, Do we not very well know that every jug is to be filled with wine?
12:21
Then you shall say to them, Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this land, the kings that sit for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with drunkenness.
12:35
I will shatter them against each other, both the fathers and the sons together, declares Yahweh. I will not spare nor show pity nor have compassion so as not to ruin them.
12:47
Listen and give ear, do not be haughty, for Yahweh has spoken. Give glory to Yahweh your
12:53
God, before he brings darkness and before your feet stumble on the dusky mountains, and while you are hoping for light, he makes it into the shadow of death and turns it into dense gloom.
13:04
But if you will not listen to it, my soul will cry in secret for such pride, and my eyes will bitterly weep and flow down with tears, because the flock of Yahweh has been taken captive.
13:17
Say to the king and the queen mother, Take a lowly seat, for your beautiful crown has come down from your head.
13:23
The cities of the Negev have been closed up, and there is no one to open them. All Judah has been taken away into exile, wholly taken away into exile.
13:34
Lift up your eyes and see, those coming from the north, where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful sheep?
13:41
What will you say when he appoints over you, and you yourself had taught them, former companions to behead over you?
13:48
Will not pangs seize you like a woman in childbirth? If you say in your heart,
13:54
Why have these things happened to me? Because of the magnitude of your iniquity, your skirts have been uncovered, and your heels have suffered violence.
14:03
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then you also can do good, who are accustomed to doing evil.
14:11
Therefore I will scatter them like chaff passing away into the wilderness wind. This is your lot, the portion measured to you from me, declares
14:21
Yahweh, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies. So I myself have also stripped your skirts off over your face, that your disgrace may be seen.
14:32
As for your adulteries and your lustful neighings, the lewdness of your prostitution on the hills and the field,
14:38
I have seen your detestable things. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you not cleanse yourself?
14:49
Matthew 27 Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel together against Jesus to put him to death.
14:58
And they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him to Pilate the governor. Then when
15:04
Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that he had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priest and the elders, saying,
15:12
I have sinned by betraying innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? See to that yourself.
15:19
And he threw the pieces of silver into the sanctuary and departed, and he went away and hanged himself.
15:26
And the chief priest took the pieces of silver and said, It is not lawful to put them into the temple treasury, since it is the price of blood.
15:34
And taking counsel together, they bought with the money the potter's field as a burial place for strangers.
15:39
For this reason that field has been called the field of blood to this day. Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
15:48
And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one whose price had been set by the sons of Israel.
15:54
And they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me. Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned him, saying,
16:02
Are you the king of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, You yourself say it. And while he was being accused by the chief priest and elders, he did not answer.
16:12
Then Pilate said to him, Do you not hear how many things they testify against you? And he did not answer him with regard to even a single charge.
16:21
So the governor marveled greatly. Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.
16:29
And at that time they were holding a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. So when the people gathered together,
16:36
Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to release for you, Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called
16:41
Christ? For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him over. Now while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying,
16:50
Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of him.
16:57
But the chief priest and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death.
17:03
But the governor answered and said to them, Which of the two do you want me to release for you? And they said,
17:09
Barabbas. Pilate said to them, Then what shall I do with Jesus, who is called Christ?
17:14
They all said, Let him be crucified. And he said, Why, what evil did he do?
17:20
But they were crying out all the more, saying, Let him be crucified. Now when
17:25
Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying,
17:34
I am innocent of this man's blood, see to that yourselves. And all the people answered and said,
17:40
His blood be on us and on our children. Then he released Barabbas for them, but after having
17:46
Jesus scourged, he delivered him over to be crucified. Then when the soldiers of the governor took
17:52
Jesus into the praetorium, they gathered the whole Roman cohort around him, and they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.
18:00
And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand.
18:06
And they knelt down before him and mocked him, saying, Hail, king of the Jews. And they spat on him and took a reed and began to beat him on the head.
18:14
When they had mocked him, they took the scarlet robe off him and put his own garments back on him, and led him away to crucify him.
18:22
And as they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear his cross.
18:29
And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means place of a skull, they gave him wine to drink mixed with gall, and after tasting it, he did not want to drink.
18:39
And when they had crucified him, they divided up his garments among themselves by casting lots, and sitting down, they began to keep watch over him there.
18:49
And above his head they put up the charge against him, which read, This is Jesus, the king of the
18:54
Jews. At that time two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.
19:01
And those passing by were blaspheming him, shaking their heads, and saying, You who are going to destroy the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save yourself.
19:11
If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross. In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking him and saying,
19:20
He saved others, he cannot save himself. He is the king of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe him.
19:29
He trusts in God, let God rescue him now, if he delights in him, for he said,
19:34
I am the Son of God. And the robbers who had been crucified with him were also insulting him with the same words.
19:41
Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour
19:47
Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani, that is,
19:55
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying,
20:03
This man is calling for Elijah. And immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed and gave him a drink.
20:12
But the rest of them were saying, Let us see whether Elijah will come to save him. And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.
20:22
And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook and the rocks were split, and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints, who had fallen asleep, were raised.
20:35
And coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many. Now the centurion and those who were with him, keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said,
20:50
Truly this was God's Son. And many women were there, looking on from a distance, who had followed
20:56
Jesus from Galilee while ministering to him. Among them was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
21:06
Now when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.
21:15
This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.
21:21
And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock.
21:29
And he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away. And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other
21:35
Mary sitting opposite the grave. Now on the next day, the day after the preparation, the chief priest and the
21:42
Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, and said, Sir, we remember that when he was still alive, that deceiver said,
21:50
After three days I am to rise again. Therefore, order for the grave to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples come and steal him away and say to the people,
22:01
He has risen from the dead, and the last deception will be worse than the first. Pilate said to them,
22:07
You have a guard, go, make it as secure as you know how. And they went and made the grave secure, and along with the guard they set a seal on the stone.
