DAY 195: Micah
DAY 195: Micah
Micah prophesies during the same turbulent era as Isaiah, as Assyria rises, Israel moves toward collapse, and Judah grows increasingly corrupt. The prophet begins by announcing that the Lord Himself is coming in judgment against both Samaria and Jerusalem. Idolatry, greed, oppression, corrupt leadership, and false prophecy have infected the covenant people from top to bottom. The powerful seize land, exploit the weak, and use religion to disguise injustice. Yet Micah refuses to let judgment have the final word. He looks beyond the corruption of the present to a future when the nations will stream to the mountain of the Lord, God’s Word will go forth from Zion, and peace will replace warfare. Most importantly, Micah promises that a ruler will arise from Bethlehem, a Shepherd-King whose origins stretch back to eternity itself. The contrast is striking: Israel’s rulers devour the flock, but this coming King will feed, protect, and gather His people. Ultimately, Micah points directly to Jesus Christ. He is the promised ruler from Bethlehem, the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep, the King through whom the nations are gathered, and the One who perfectly embodies justice, mercy, and humility. Micah begins with corrupt cities under judgment but ends with a God who delights in steadfast love, pardons iniquity, and casts the sins of His people into the depths of the sea through Christ.
